Bark Park Central is located in Dallas' Deep Ellum, right under the freeway overpass of the US 75. My husband, our little girl dog and I just happen to drive through this little area and saw it and decided to turn around and check it out. Parking is available in the residential streets nearby, which is a short walk over. This dog park, 1.2 arces, is within walking distance of many dog friendly restaurants and bars. This park is fenced off so you can let your pup go off leash. This dog park has poop bag dispensers, dog water bowls (although it is better for you to bring your own because those bowls are never clean and you don't want your dog getting sick), water fountains, is shaded for the most part and has some amazing eclectic artwork. We came on a Saturday afternoon, around 3:30 pm. There were only 2 other people with 2 dogs in the park. The ground is mostly dirt, although there is some patches of grass throughout. Please note that there is no small dog side or big dog side, it is all one giant open space. For the most part, I really enjoyed the art. My little girl just enjoyed following me around (lol) though. Overall, a nice little neighborhood park that is quite unique. But please note that because this is in downtown, you may see some homeless folks, as we saw some (not inside the dog park, but around the area). This is a tough one to review because there are so many pluses and minuses. I have to go with three stars just for the lack of separate area for small dogs. Pluses: -Ample, well-stocked poop stations -Beautiful artwork all around -Giant open area to run and play. Seriously, it's huge. -Wood chips covering the ground keep it nice and dry. Minuses: -Location under overpasses makes for a loud, unrelaxing visit. If you have noise-averse pups, then maybe best to avoid. It's LOUD. -Parking is scarce. Came here on midday on a Saturday and expected it to be packed, but it was the opposite! The location was really nice and the place is fenced off / shaded. Parking was a bit of an inconvenience but I would suggest coming in the early afternoon. My dog was playing pretty well with another stranger's dog and this homeless (?) person brought their stray looking pup. This dog was not neutered and eventually began dry humping the other dog's head. The owner of the stray just laughed so I immediately packed up and left. I'll give this place another try some other time and update the review if I have a better experience. One important note is that there aren't separate areas for big / medium / small dogs. I can't believe no one has reviewed this place! Seriously? We are hurting for space in this city when it comes to green spaces or places for our dogs to run (legally) and I LOVE this place. I'm going with 4 stars because there is just no parking... so if you have to drive you hope for a meter spot on the side. Other than that I find the place to be pretty relaxing on a regular visit. Dogs of all shapes and sizes and laid back doggie parents all over. There is some grass, some seating (limited), water fountain for people and dogs, mud... yes mud and high fencing. The dogs always seem to feel safe and relaxed here. The fountains could use some work, mud can be an issue... but for this kind of space you can't ask much more. The highway actually provides shade (which you need here) and a white noise that's kinda calming. It's gotten a bit beaten up in the last year... but I much prefer this over Main Street Garden park (joke) or Klyde Warren for dogs... let's get real here. read more

I love this dog park and so does my furry-faced pup. This is your urban dog park for sure! Positioned below several overpasses and right before you get to the heart of Deep Ellum, you'll find this gem. You have to find metered parking to go here, but, luckily the meters are super cheap on that side of town (.25 for 30 min). There's plenty of dog waste stations and flowing water for your pup and the homeless people that walk by. I truly love this dog park best in the Dallas area because of the set up of space. So much room to throw a ball as far as you want and your dog room to run after it. There is some noise from the expressway, but you get use to it. The only problem you have to watch out for is the mud pits. For some reason the rain seems to hang around certain areas of this dog park creating huge mud pits for your dog to get all sorts of dirty in. grrrrrr why dont you have separate fences? I have a 15 pound west highland terrier and she doesnt get along with some big dogs!!!! She feels threaten if they come close and its unpredictable. I just dont want her to get intimidated and start barking at them. Might cause a dog fight and oh no, we are not having that. Such a cute little park. It's spacious and the location is really cool. There's a lot of parking very close and it's cheap. The only improvement I could suggest is fixing the areas of the grounds where water pools up and it's pretty gross. This is a GREAT dog park! Huge, expansive area for those dogs that want to run and chase. It will surely give your pup a nice workout. There are benches, fountains for the dogs, just one dog play structure, and again...lots of space. After reading several other reviews...the freeway noise isn't an issue, there are muddy spots, but it's a huge space, so it happens, and it's in between downtown and Deep Ellum, so yes, metered parking....just find free parking a couple blocks away and walk. Finally...I read one that said this was a dirty park...not true! I encountered very few "land mines" and that could be from simply losing track of your pooch in the large space. People are friendly and the fences and gates appear to be in pretty good shape. There is even art and sculptures to admire. Only a couple things keep this from being a prefect park...there's only one dog structure...there's plenty of space for a couple more or even a pond or similar water feature. The other down side is an upside...it is a huge space...can be easy to lose track of your pet for clean up or general safety. I highly recommend a visit here! read more

Deep Ellum Dog Park is at least spacious! Plenty of room to play fetch with your pooch, and enough space to accommodate crowded weekend mornings. There's mulch on one side of the park, and grass/mostly dirt on the other side. It's mostly completely all under two underpasses so if you're dog is skittish, this may not be the park for you. It's not separated either, so if you're dog doesn't do well with small/big dogs, whatever they may be, you should take that into consideration - it's usually a lot of bigger dogs when I've stopped by. I suggest parking on Henry and walking over, if it's before 6pm. The art on the underpass pillars is contributed by a local high school, if I'm not mistaken, and is definitely a highlight of the park. There benches shaped like dog bones, too, which I think is a pretty cute touch. Plenty of poop bag stations, and I've only been once when the bags needed to be replaced in a couple of them. That's pretty good in my experience, and I'm at the dog park at least twice a week. I can't give more stars because I hate all the dirt, and the mulch smells like SURPRISE! Dog pee! I assume parking would be a huge issue after 6PM as well. Great resource for people who live within walking distance though! read more

Since our beloved white rock dog park is under construction, we have been looking high and low for a suitable substitute. We found the Deep Ellum Dog Park completely by chance- it is tucked away under 75. Parking is a little hard to find as well, but there seems to be a corner of a warehouse parking lot that corresponds to the northwest corner of the park. I like that the park is relatively large and gives our hyperactive dog a chance to use up his energy. The columns and walls around it are painted and quite entertaining to look at while the dogs play. It is one park for all sizes, but the dogs that are here today all play nicely with one another. read more

Parking is metered but it's pretty cheap (.25 for 30mins). We went on a Sunday afternoon and there was 4 other dogs there as well. Having just moved here from Chicago, I'm a little shocked at some of the negative points in the reviews. The expressway noise has nothing on the dog park we visited in Chicago that was right next to the busiest section of the El tracks. The metered parking is easy to find and very inexpensive, it's in an urban area where I wouldn't expect free parking. The space is what impressed us the most- plenty of room to run and throw a ball (at least 5 times the space we're used to). Mud was inevitable since there were the severe rainstorms on Sunday night, but it wasn't out of control in any area. There were only a couple of poop piles that we saw but those are par for the course in any dog park due to inconsiderate owners. It's nice that they provide the poop station. There is plenty of room and everyone (dog and people) that we met was friendly. As others have said, it's a great use of under freeway space for pups to have a place of their own. None of the dogs (or owners) were aggressive and we'll be back frequently. read more

I've only been to the Bark Park twice, and have mixed feelings. I feel like it could be a great place to play, but perhaps not enough people know about it because both times (a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday afternoon) there weren't many other people there. Also both times I had to pay the meter to park, I guess it just depends what time you go (and maybe there's free parking somewhere nearby?) The area isn't huge, and the big dogs and small dogs frolic together. I have no issue with that, but some people do. Also, both times I was there, there was a giant muddy hole that the dogs all wanted to get into. Bottom line in my opinion, if there are other folks there, it's great, but if you're there by yourself, not so exciting. So spread the word about Bark Park! read more

This dog park has it all: an "airlock" cage with leash hooks, hand-painted art for dogs to pee on, a ramp that goes up to a platform, poop stations (that always have bags), and wood chips that look exactly like dog poop so you get to hunt around for something to pick up. As long as I get some dog's poop, I count it, even if it's not my dog's. For a hyper-urban dog park, this place beats Main St Gardens by a mile. So glad it's here. read more

Disclaimer: am not a pet owner but I have frequented dog parks quite a bit. Headed here Sunday morning (10ish) when I was visiting Dallas. Pros: - Very large enclosed space where my bf's little buddies could run wild. - Bone-shaped benches to chill on. - Lots of free tennis balls lying around. - People and dog water fountains. - Vending machine with pet items - cool idea. - We had the place to ourselves. It was like our own giant backyard. Cons: - Paid meter street parking (even on a Sunday) - Its under the freeway (but I was there for the dogs, not to sunbathe, so who cares?) - Not everyone picks up their poop. The poop-per-square-footage ratio wasn't that bad, just noticeable. Somewhat forgiven because you cant always see your pup given the layout of the spot. - Small puddle of water and muddy area. Don't expect anyone to clean up after their dog. This is the dirtiest dog park I have been to. You will find cool people to talk to but from time to time homeless wander in and don't leave you alone. If you talk to the police that park across the street they tell you there is nothing they can do. Don't go late at night because the walk home is creepy. On weekends during the day no one is there. Today was my first time here with my cocker spaniel Benny. First of all, it's a lot larger than I expected. There are tons of doggy bag stations and a water fountain for your dogs. My favorite was all the graffiti artwork on the bridge columns. It had a fun inner city rawness to it. I went on a Thursday evening around 8pm and I would say there were about 10 people with their dogs. All sizes and there were no aggressive dogs. The noise of the freeways of course is loud, but my dog didn't mind it. I parked on commerce as I drove up to the park. I hope that was ok . Any parking recommendations? But overall I will be back. Bark Park Central could be something really special, but right now, my biggest complaint is the lack of separation for big dogs and small dogs. I have a Brussels Griffon who weighs about 7 lbs. and even though he loves to play rough, he can't quite play as rough as some of the big dogs. Very nice. Location, Parking and cleanness is why I gave it 3 stars. Seems like every time I go there the far sided grass area is a mine field. Clean: Not so clean Size: Its medium. enough for a "x2 Chuck-it" if you stand in the middle and throw it to far side. Landscape: Don't come there for anything that doesn't involve looking at your dog. Its under the highway and pretty much boring ugly urban scenario. The people also aren't that friendly. It's a bit hard for me to give an accurate review of this place because I showed up around 10am on a Sunday and there was NO one here! However, I will tell you the dog park has a pretty convenient location right in the middle of Deep Ellum directly beneath the highway. The grass seemed fairly well groomed even though there were a few landmines here and there that we had to avoid. The park had some running water for the pups and cute dog bone shaped benches. It also had a nifty vending machine with dog treats and toys. Anyways, worth a stop if you live nearby, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go to it. After frequenting Wagging Tails dog park in Addison, I probably won't ever like another dog park as much! Of course I can't expect it to be the same since it's smack in the center of Deep Ellum under a bunch of freeways! I paid for metered parking along the street, but I'm not 100% sure if the lot across the street is free. We went on a Friday evening around 5pm, and it was pretty empty. Unfortunately they don't have separate areas for small dogs vs large dogs. The park is pretty large, but almost too large to the point where it's hard to keep an eye on your dog unless you constantly follow them throughout the park. I'm sure this also results in a lot of dog poop that owners don't pick up.There weren't that many medium-small dogs, so I mostly played fetch with my corgi. Like the previous review mentioned, dog waste stations are available throughout the park , a fountain at the entrance, and benches scattered throughout for the owners. There are some dirt/mud pits that you'll have to keep an eye out for. I'm hoping the next time I come, there are more and a better mix of small & large dogs! read more

Large open dog park right downtown for you to take your fur legged family. They have seating for the humans and water bowls for the pets, awesome. The people and dogs are friendly, and the overpass provides some much needed shade during the hot summer. Other dog parks have an area for bigs and littles so I don't feel like we could bring all of the fur family here, but if your little dog doesn't mind playing with bigger dogs there won't be an issue. Gross. I brought Rosy there last Sunday in the middle of the afternoon. Although the weather was truly glorious we were the only people there. But I'm no shrinking violet; so I was determined to stay and have fun despite the fact that it was just me and my five-month-old puppy, alone, under a freeway, in a completely gated-in area with only one entrance/exit. Unfortunately, "having fun" at Bark Park means carefully picking your way through a park strewn with giant piles of poop. I tried throwing the ball to Rosy, but it landed in one of the poop piles. Bark Park Central is a great location for all the uptown/downtown dwellers. While the White Rock Lake dog park is far superior in size and amenities, Bark Park is still a great place to take your dog if you don't want to drive too far and just need to run 'em ragged for an hour. Owners seem to be extremely friendly and sociable at this park, so it's fun for us to see and connect with familiar faces and laugh at our dogs being fiesty with one another. My only complaint is the stray dog that seems to run the park. He's a black lab that usually stops by every time we're there. I feel sorry for him - he doesn't seem to have an owner and basically hops the fence to get in and out, or waits for someone to open the gate for him. If he didn't beat up on the other dogs all the time, I'd feel more welcoming toward him. However, he can get pretty rough which has caused me to leave several times. Last night my boyfriend and I brought our 7 month old German Shepherd mix Lucy to this dog park for her first time and she loved it! Although she's only 7 months old she is already a medium sized dog and got along well with the dogs her size and even tried to instigate with dogs bigger than her. We got there in the evening, about 7 and it was well-lit after the sun went down which I wasn't sure about while driving there. The park is a good enough space where its big enough for all the dogs to run around but small enough to see your dog at the other side. We don't mind that there aren't any obstacles for the dogs to play in since the main reason why we bring her is to release some energy and meet new friends. Excellent neighbhorhood dog park to take your pup pal! This is a large, dog-friendly park right underneath the overpass on the corner of Canton and Good Latimer streets. Fido will love frolicking with his new pup friends and they will have a paw-tastic time. A lot of owners like to walk over with a cup of coffee while their pooches play for hours. In returning for the second time, I have to say the trash is a problem for me. I continually had to redirect my pups from foam food containers that I assume where tossed over the fence, or someone simply didn't care. There is other trash present, and aside from possibly stepping in poo, that's the only thing I want to have to watch it for. I do not want to have to keep guard for potential foreign objects. I still appreciate the fact it is a mixed size park, but given the location you do have to be mindful of who brings there dogs in, like any park, but some parks have a certain dynamic going you have to watch for (this being one of them). My pups did enjoy themselves, but we couldn't stay as long because some of those "dynamics" came into play, and I felt it best to head on home for their safety. read more
