So having the Swiss cheese and having it on cornbread was so good the hash was just plain old-fashioned hash, but it was cooked perfectly with lots of crunch on the edges. Disappointed with the service and quality under the new ownership. I asked the server what kind of veggies were in the special omelette and she wasn't sure so she checked with someone. She came back and said "every kind of veggie we have" so I asked for no peppers. My omelette arrived along with the gluten free sun-dried tomato toast I ordered. The omelette had peppers and my toast was completely raw and doughy. The server never checked back in so we were able to get a different servers attention and told him about the bread being raw. I asked for a new piece of bread or just a piece of white gluten free bread if all the sun dried tomato bread was raw. He returns with the same piece of bread stating it was a new piece. They clearly cut off the end I had bit into and just microwaved it. It was warm but still doughy as it clearly wasn't fully cooked. read more

We just moved to the area from a different part of the country and I have to say that this place is absolutely delicious. My kids have had the pancakes. I tried my oldest kiddos blueberry pancake and it was amazing. The potatoes are also great. The eggs Benedict was *chef's kiss*. Their hollandaise sauce was tangy and smooth. The only tiny complaint I have is that the first time I got an omelette there it was by far the best omelette I have ever had. It was fluffy and everything you want an omelette to be. The second time I got the same omelette it was not fluffy. It was still good, just not the same. This isn't because the service or good is bad. It was because there was a different cook working that day. It was a preference thing. I like eggs/omelettes fluffy and the second time it was cooked hard. Our server was friendly and we were greeted warmly when we walked into the door. I really wanted to like this neighborhood spot but I just couldn't. The home fries and eggs were good. The bacon was very burnt. My friend sent hers back and the new plate wasn't much different. They had a premade bacon look and taste about them. The bread is homemade but so flat tasting. I had to doctor it with jelly. It was just off. But the clincher for me was the mediocre coffee and stained mugs. Sometimes you just have to throw mugs out and replace them. Options range from fruit cups and hearty healthy oatmeal to french toasts and pastries piled high with a balance of flavor and decadence. Yum! Started with a cup of their raspberry chocolate coffee & it was delicious! The eggs over easy had plenty of golden yolk, a treasure, Canadian ham was moist @ flavorful, and with so many choices of homemade bread it was difficult to make a choice but settled on the onion dill and it didn't disappoint! Only minus was that the eggs and ham were warm not hot- but the toast was super hot... so all in all it felt like home! Lol. It is a small place, so be prepared for close seating. We went at 9-10am on a Wednesday am so it wasn't too crazy. Only 1 waitress on so was a little slow .. but we weren't pressed for time. Some have noted too slow but if u choose this place know it may take a little xtra time esp. if you come on the weekend - but the food is GOOD the service was with a smile oh there's a wood stove that makes it super toasty especially on a cold day (24 degrees)! read more

This place has really gone downhill. The last few times we've come we've waited 45 - 1hr for breakfast. That's excessive especially when it's only 1/4 full. Meanwhile everyone in the restaurant is groaning as well. There is usually only 1 waitress and god knows what the cook is doing (unless it's the guy at the front chatting with his buddies instead of helping or cooking) because bacon and eggs don't take that long. My most recent visit had mold all over the raspberries in my fruit cup which made me question my whole meal. Also the AC is covered in mold. No BS, no fluff review. This would actually be 1.5 stars if I could do that. This place has gone downhill, big time. It's not like I haven't given it many chances. I've been here at least 20 times over the past couple years. It went from a solid 4 star experience down to what it is now. Before moving to Mass, we had come up to visit a couple times and always went to breakfast here. It used to be rock-solid reliable, and we always enjoyed it because there is a wide variety of gluten free options, and it was small and cozy. While the location is still convenient, and the decor is still homey and cute (just don't sit by the perpetually broken front door that always lets cold air in), the service is just so very very inconsistent. I worked as both a waiter and back of the house for many years when I was younger. A section of 4-5 tables could be expected to be handled by one individual, and 8 tables (which I believe is how many are in Roadhouse, minus the bar) should be an easy task for multiple servers. This is not the case here, especially when it's busy. Some examples over the last 4-5 visits: - Not bringing all the food we ordered. Job #1 at a restaurant. - Not refilling coffee. Even when asked, was still forgotten or neglected. - Bringing anything that is not the temperature it's supposed to be. - Acting inconvenienced or annoyed when asked for simple things, that are not unusual or out of place in a food serving setting (like having to ask multiple times for butter or... silverware). Also applies when letting the wait staff know something is wrong. Don't act like I'm a jerk for pointing it out. Even with all this, I was usually very forgiving and tried not to take it out on the Roadhouse as a whole. The food, even when it came out not the expected temperature, was still consistently delicious. The owner or whoever comes up with the menu, clearly has good taste, and picks interesting and flavorful ingredients, with lots of quality organic options. However, the last couple times it seems that this is starting to slip. Some examples: - Possibly the thinnest sliced bacon I've seen. It gives prosciutto a run for it's money... - Eggs coming out overdone. Over-easy means the yolk should still be mostly liquid. Scrambled eggs shouldn't be dry or rubbery. - Home fries that still taste and feel like raw potato. Home fries aren't hard. Great blend of herbs and spices on them, but they shouldn't be basically raw in the middle. - A wide variety of simple screw ups on the food prep (extra stuff being in, or some stuff missing in an omelette for example). And again, myself and friends/family in the area, have all given this multiple chances. These are not stand-out exceptions. I really want to like this place like we used to, and it's reasonably priced and local. But this last time in, the owner (I'm assuming, the older blonde woman that ended up voiding an item from our check) has pushed me to the point that I won't be returning any time soon. A quick run down of what happened: 1.) My girlfriend ordered pancakes 2.) She noticed that there were clumps of "uncooked batter" in the pancakes. Acted like it wasn't a big deal (she's accommodating to a fault sometimes...) 3.) I cut a bite out of her pancake to try it, and when I bit into it there was a clump that basically exploded in my mouth. It was not even mixed. Literally a clump of dry flour. I cut the remaining bit of pancake open sideways and found in another part of the pancake a quarter sized hard disk of dry clumped pancake mix/flour. 4.) I notified our server, saying "I'm sorry, but the pancakes seem to have hard clumps of uncooked batter in them. You might want to let the cook know." She replied with "oh." 5.) A little while later she dropped off the check, the pancakes weren't replaced, nobody came to apologize or ask what was wrong. 6.) I approached the front counter to pay, and asked her if the pancakes could be taken off (we only ate about 1/4 of the pancake). She sighed and turned around to the owner/manager who was cooking on the grill and told her. The manager then asked me what was wrong with the pancakes. I explained. She said "Well, I don't mix the pancake batter too much on purpose". I explained that I understand that having lumpy pancake batter usually gives pancakes a nice texture and stuff, but that I was referring to unmixed flour clumps, that were hard and gross. She said "well that's how I make them, maybe next time you shouldn't order them". She voided the pancakes, but you should pretty much never blame the customer or make them feel bad for pointing something out like this. I've had the pancakes every time I've been there. This never happened before. 7.) I think she realized a minute later that she sounded pretty bad and after I signed the slip (still left a 20% tip), she asked if everything else was good, which for the most part it was, and I said so. In summary, the unfortunate last straw in a string of bad visits. =( read more

Judging by all the positive reviews in 2014 of this place, I think it's safe to assume that the quality has taken a nosedive. I had breakfast here with some friends July 4 weekend. Complaint #1- They use a microwave. A lot of their specials come with a (I'm assuming homemade) coffee cake. Microwaves ruin your food and have no place in restaurant. I'm not really sure why they (over) tout all natural and organic ingredients and then nuke everything. I would have preferred the pastry at room temperature than microwaved; it would have been fine. Complaint #2- A friend and I both ordered the same special omelet with a vegetable mixture and cheese. Instead we both received a different omelet with mushrooms. I informed the waitress and they said they would remake them. When I received the new omelet, the inside veggies mixture was FREEZING and clearly hadn't been cooked properly. They had also reheated the original homefries from our first omelet and they now had a weird, cardboard texture. Really? A $65 breakfast for four where half the meal was microwaved and other half was improperly cooked? No thanks. Stick to your local greasy spoon. read more

Especially when something was brought out wrong or if something was missing. Coffee is absolutely dissssgusting. I'm not sure if they make a big batch in the morning and let it sit there all day or if it's instant or Walmart brand or what? It's really, really bad. Gas stations have better coffee than this place. The pancakes, although I've had them come out under cooked more than once, are top notch. I especially like the blueberries because they're fresh and they normally put in a good amount. Not a fan of their potatoes, which is one of my favorite breakfast foods. Over seasoned, wither over or under cooked, just never right for me. They seem like they're precooked and then thrown in a fryer to heat up. Nothing memorable about that. Now, one thing they've got right is their bread. It's definitely home made and absolutely delicious. I've tried quite a few and have enjoyed each one better than the next. Still deciding if it's worth $3.50 for two slices.. yum.. Prices are astronomical, especially for this area. Meals are between $8-12 and coffee is around $2.50. I used to love this place... funky location (right by the side of a busy road), cute interior, organic brunchy comfort food, but now I've soured on it and everything I used to love just pisses me off. The location: it's a cute place, but the road is right there and the place does nothing to help you forget that youre one distracted driver away from being killed. Plus, if it's sunny (as it was this morning) the outdoor tables and blazingly hot (buy some umbrellas!). The place has ONE person that cooks, so if it's even remotely crowded, go somewhere else. We were seated quickly, but our meal stretched over an hour and a half because it just takes so long for them to cook anything. When our food arrived, the quality was very, very hit-or-miss. The pancakes are generally quite good, but my oatmeal was so gross I had to send it back. It had been sitting in the bowl for a long time and had congealed into a blob with a hard skin on the outside. Beyond disgusting. It's thin and droopy. And I have seen them microwaving almost EVERYTHING in the back, including to warm their delicious baked goods. Maybe it's just me, but I hate the idea of microwaved baked goods. They should be warmed in some type of toaster oven on request only. And, they have such a great variety of baked goods, including gluten free. The selection could be improved by adding vegan options I guess, and by not microwaving them to heat them. They get that chewy cardboardy microwaved taste just so they can make them luke warm, and for what? so that we can think they just took it out of the oven? Sorry, I just saw and heard you microwave half my food, I'm not gonna believe you just whipped that coffee cake up on the spot... Too bad, because I love a pastry with my coffee. And surprisingly their coffee was decent. I mean about 65% of the time it tastes fresh, which is great for a break fast joint. And they usually offer a couple different flavors, including a seasonal, which is nice. Pancakes-don't remember, I think they were okay? Sausage-I think it's brown and serve, or some variation Anything that comes with cheese, they usually over do so it's a bit goopy. I would specify light cheese and non-microwaved pastry if I went back. They boast organic local eggs, which is great. Home made bread for toast is good, if you like the soft pillowy stuff, nice think slices, and a variety to choose from... Good service. Nice waitresses, they don't seem to rush you, even if you're the late crowd I would go back if I was in the area early one morning, perhaps on the way back from appealing a minor traffic violation at the Hampshire County Courthouse or something. I'm going to start by saying if you don't like hot weather and you need good a/c don't go on a day when it's above 82 outside otherwise you'll end up road kill inside the Roadhouse .... Normally I'd turn around and leave or I'd knock off a star due to this but it was such a great food experience that I can't, now that's telling! I was so happy with the entire meal that I'd like to shrink the roadhouse and carry it in my pocket like a wizard then poof it out at will ... daily for lunch/breakfast! I went with my sister, nephew and another fellow vegetarian it was a delight to be able to fully eat a meal with meat eaters and not have to pick over the menu looking for scraps! The menu is creative with all the breakfast standards too. Love the plethora of choices on the home made breads. De'lish! Service is very friendly in a "granola sort of way" which is refreshing too. This place makes you wonder why is it that every other restaurant makes a big deal out of "anything" organic/vegetarian and gouges people for serving these products. It's something I'm sure will resonate with so many others after going to Roadhouse having an entirely organic meal right down to the condiments. It only makes one acknowledge that our entire food-chain system is screwed up and so are all the other restaurants that stick it to people for "healthier choices". I think carnivores, vegetarians' and pescatarians' alike will all be happy with your meals here! read more

This was my family's first time eating at this breakfast place and will definitely be our last. The inside of the restaurant isn't the cleanliness place we've been to and the amount of flies was concerning but the thick, humid air had to have been the worst part. The thirty year old air conditioning unit in the window didn't seem to be working properly much like the wait staff. It took at least 25 minutes to take our order, about 30 minutes more to get our food and our server never came back to check on us in that period of time. When our food finally arrived, it was incomplete, my over easy eggs were brown and the rest of the food was mediocre at best. An elderly couple next to us waited so long for their food, they said they couldn't remember what they had ordered. Seemed to be an overall negative experience for everyone there. read more

I really want to love this place, since it's just a short drive down the road from my apartment. But I can only give it 3 stars, mostly for their cornbread. This is the kind of earthy-crunchy place I have come to expect in the Pioneer Valley. Just not for breakfast though. As my dining companion put it, "I thought it would be greasier." Instead there's more of a focus on healthy/organic/no preservatives. Which is fine! But when the bacon is not good, I cannot hand out any more stars. I take bacon very seriously. It was a little too chewy, and didn't have the usual flavor. However, the scrambled eggs were good and the toasted cornbread was quite delicious. Their menu seemed a little more pricey than other places I've been in the area but I'll have to double check that. Otherwise, it's a nice place for breakfast, just not my favorite. read more

Roadhouse is a favorite of my fiance's family, and every couple of months we're lucky enough to get a breakfast invitation. Roadhouse's emphasis on organic and local ingredients distinguishes it from typical diners, and the food has never disappointed. The menu is good sized, and features standard breakfast items as well as a handful of weekly specials. Prices are just slightly higher than average, which is understandable because the food is of such high quality. Service at Roadhouse is also top-notch. Our orders are always taken promptly, and we've never waited too long for food. The waitstaff is quick to refill coffee, which consistently gets high marks from others, though I usually stick to Diet Coke. (Which totally nullifies the benefits of eating an organic breakfast, I know.) Because Roadhouse is small, a wait isn't uncommon, but the line moves quickly. Unfortunately, like other reviewers, I've found that the restaurant isn't always spotless. This morning, for example, a bunch of crumpled up paper towels what looked like other assorted garbage was piled on top of an air conditioning unit. So, while Roadhouse gets high marks for everything else, there is room for improvement. read more
