Overall I like the station -- servicing both BART and Caltrain, and trains are mostly on time. I also use this station for long term airport parking, since it's cheaper ($6 as opposed to $14 at the airport) and I like the train more than airport shuttle. Not a fan of the whole printing a ticket procedure... but it's worth it to ensure a covered parking space. On the negative side, things are disorganized here as other reviewers also state. Parking for one, I would have been lost if I didn't happen to read the web site material thoroughly. To me the platform signs are not helpful either; I wish they would say something like "To San Jose" in addition to the platform number. I can't remember how many times people asked me which platform is bound to which way (I too asked someone the first time). And a big -1 for the taxi company at the station, for giving me a misleading estimate and trying to take all the wrong turns. I suppose they are the same way throughout US... but it was very disappointing when my experience in bay area had been extremely good up to that point, especially with people. read more

Driving to the BART station can be a hassle due to the intersection entering the station, which gets very congested in the morning. Also, the particular direction from which I come (hanging a left down Millbrae) has an annoying light which often doesn't let enough cars get through. Parking in the BART structure is acceptable if you arrive by a little before 8 on a weekday, in which case there is generally still parking on the first floor (which I prefer since you can avoid the winding path up the parking structure). But wait any longer and it fills up pretty quickly, forcing you to do the long drive up. It's usually deserted on weekends, which is nice. The station itself is nothing exceptional, but that's not a bad thing. It's fairly clear how to get to your train, which isn't a big deal since most people taking BART in the morning are commuters to the city. Also, I haven't had that many instances when BART was delayed, although it does happen and can be pretty frustrating, especially if you tried to time your arrival at, say, a specific spot in the city. BART is generally a gross train to be on, although it's gotten better. Carpets are a disgusting idea and the stains prove it. Also, I don't know why anyone thought fabric seats worked in this setting; they just tend to soak up body order. That said, BART seems to be transitioning to some sort of vinyl seating which makes you feel a bit less gross when you are on it. Luckily, since this is the south-most stop on the peninsula, you will get seating for your trip up. So, overall, the BART station is fine. It's got a few headaches, but it's no worse than other transportation hubs I've used in the past. BART itself is not pleasant, but it's fairly reliable. I think "A-OK" (Yelp's description of my rating) is pretty accurate here. read more

The BART Parking Garage seems to have developed a scheme to charge $43 per day to park there. Here's how it works: They use old, dirty signs for Reserved parking areas, which look almost identical to Daily parking areas. They print it in small faded font, and keep the lighting dim. A first-time Millbrae BART user very easily does not realize she's now entering the reserved parking area. She parks her car, and minutes later, BOOM, the meter maids drop a ticket on her car. This happened to me, and I contested the citation, saying I of course did not do it on purpose (why would I want to pay $43 to park my car?), but because the signs weren't effective. Guess what the BART Kangaroo Court ruled in their "Administrative Review?" They upheld THEIR OWN ruling (big surprise!). People like me complain that the signs seem purposely unclear. BART does not upgrade the signs. Permit holders complain that non-permit holders are mistakenly parking in their area. BART does not upgrade the signs. Why? I believe so they can get $43 per mistake. Why spend money on clearer signs when the old ones generate so many citations? BART, you are brilliant. You may make a lot of mistakes in how you operate your old trains, but you sure know how to pick-pocket new users and make it look legitimate. read more

Beware of parking at BART station. I parked, paid the $2.50 at 9:21 am and received a $40 citation at 9:46 am. Totally screwed up system-I appealed, and the appeal was denied because you have to pay the $40 first and then deny. When I spoke to a BART person they indicated the system is not real time so my payment probably had not shown up when someone was checking parking spots. Total experience in frustration, citation processing center never got back to me, it's only because I called that I found out my appeal was denied. I don't know how to avoid this from happening again. Keep your parking receipts but that may not help. Seems very unfair. read more

It is 1am 11/13/2017 morning (~9 hours ago). There are two empty Transit Policy SUVs parked outside (I know some city would park old policy cars in high risk area for show. I don't if this is true for this case). Of the three parking structure elevators, only one (far left one of the three) is turned on. This only elevator has two homeless person sleeping inside. I didn't see any police around despite the 2 SUVs parking outside. What is wrong with this picture? read more

This is more properly a review of the architect that designed this building. In short their license to practice architecture should be revoked. Further the BART employes who approved this design should be fired. It is clear that the architect chose to make a "statement" with this building and as a consequence it functions very poorly. I have used this station for about 10 years now, the first 5 routinely as I commuted to work near the Civic Center station. Where does one start. The easiest is the height of the main platform. In order to accommodate some sort of enclosed observation area below the main platform that main platform is some 15 feet higher than it needs to be. There is no reason this enclosed observation area could not have be on the same level as the main platform. As far as that goes, I have never seen it used. The roofs are a joke. They are all so high above the various areas they are supposed to serve that they only work when the rain is straight down, any wind and you must know where to go or you will get wet. This is particularly noticeable on the train platforms and the bus waiting platforms. The main platform is also problematic but less so, just watch out for the area of slick tiles that BART employes put cones around in the middle. When it is windy and cold come dressed for it because, if not, you will have difficulty finding a place to stay warm. The final part is the most significant. Given the excessive heights and other factors the building itself must have cost a minimum of 25% to as much as 50% more than it should have. It is often a problem with architects and engineers that when their fee is based on a percentage of construction cost they will make expensive designs because it garners them more money. This particular building, given its failures of function, is such an unfortunate example that loss of license should be the minimum punishment. read more

Don't get caught by the red light camera at the entrance to the Bart station. I got one on a Saturday morning at 7:55 am. The fine was $495!!!! This is an outrageous amount. Will never stay in Millbrea again. read more

I mostly take the train from Redwood City to SF. While I prefer the train, I was starting to use Bart when I need the flexibility. I thought I had decent solution until yesterday. Problem #1: No parking on the Caltrain side. Have to drive another 5-7 minutes to get to the other garage. Problem #2: Now I have to pay for parking when I already paid for a Caltrain parking pass. Problem #3: Have to drive in circles for another 5 or so minutes in the garage up to the 4th floor. Problem #4: Didn't see the poorly marked sign that apparently says permit only parking and had to pay a $40 ticket (on top of the $25 Uber I had to take from Daly City, but that's a Bart issue.) Problem #5: It took 15-20 minutes to get out of the garage from the 4th floor and another 15 minutes to get back over the bridge to the other side of the station again. It definitely would have been cheaper and probably would have taken less time to just drive, even paying SF prices for parking. The positive is that you can get a seat on Bart leaving from here unlike the train from Redwood City, which is hit or miss. The station is fairly clean, but very large. Plan on 5-8 minutes to get from your parking space to the station. read more

I'm not a fan of BART in general (too inconvenient, doesn't go where it needs to go, doens't interface well with Caltrain, and well, did you read that NY Times article about how dirty it is? that was not good for my OCD self), but the fact is sometimes I'm going somewhere in SF where the caltrain doesn't go and where it is impractical to park. In general, I've had ok experiences here - on the weekends when I usually come, parking is free and easy to come by. However, today I came on a weekday, and it was an absolute nightmare. When I arrived around 11:30 I couldn't find parking in any of the surface lots or in the garage. After about 20 minutes of driving around I finally discovered that the top floor of the garage has "reserved parking" that is only reserved until 10 am and there were a few spaces there. How hard is it to have a sign saying which lots/floors are full and which have space? That's pretty standard. I also really dislike the fact that the trains take a long time to show up and then sit FOREVER here before they go. It always seems like the trip into the city from Millbrae takes about 45 and the trip home takes less than 30. I go here because I need to go here sometimes and it serves me reasonably well but I can't say I'm a fan. read more

I live walking distance, albeit a looong walk, and this BART station has never let me down. It approaches Swiss time, and even I, who gets lost in a paper bag, find it pretty easy to navigate, buy tickets at the kiosk, find the boarding platform, etc. The interior of the BART is fairly clean and the conductor announces the station at each interval; the name of the station is also noted at the stop. If I as a spatially relations-challenged girl finds this stuff negotiable, I imagine that the average person will find it a breeze :-) Though I've ridden BART less than a dozen times, I've always found it a pleasant experience, getting me to and from the city in record time and for a reasonable price--if and only if you're an occasional BART rider. If I had to rely on it for daily commute, it'd get super expensive fast, and I'm not sure which would be more: owning a car with insurance and such, or riding BART, especially if we factor in the convenience of driving to and fro with a car. Of course, I'm not counting parking in the city, which would mortgage a house in other parts of the country. Btw, whenever I've asked the person behind the window for help buying a ticket, etc., I've always gotten excellent and gracious help. read more

Around 5:30 pm today (6/21/19) I had to ask a BART attendant to help me. I had tried to get to the CalTrain from the BART station, but there was no way across tracks without going back through the BART station. In a hurry, I figured that if I used my clipper card to get back into the BART side and out again, I wouldn't be charged since I didn't take the train anywhere. Instead, I was charged about $5. I was shocked and told the attendant. He couldn't help, but rather than tactfully explaining this, he chose to insult me. Insisting that I should have taken the non-functional elevator or an escalator that was way at the far end of the station with no visible signs from where I had just been, and further stating that those methods were "common sense." No! Common sense would be not charging for an in-and-out. Common sense would be having a path across the CalTrain tracks the way most other CalTrain stations do. Common sense would be for a customer service person to not insult the customer! I've worked in customer service for many years, and I had ever spoken like that to a customer I would have been disciplined or fired. I cannot believe someone that rude has been able to hold a job in customer service for even an hour. read more

If you want to transfer from Caltrain to BART to get to SFO, then the Millbrae BART station totally sucks. If I'm in Mountain View, and I need to arrive at SFO by 11am on a weekday morning, the 9:29am Caltrain gets me to Millbrae in a reasonable 44min, and then it takes -- get this -- another 44min just to get from Millbrae to SFO via BART. The timing of the transfer is so bad, one has to wonder if BART did this to deliberately piss off the Caltrain/SFO customers. I wish I could give the Millbrae BART station negative stars, because the situation was much better before this station existed, when we had a shuttle bus that got you from Millbrae to SFO in 20min or so, including the wait, if any. Love this station! Its close to home and I use it to get on BART for my forays into SF or the Berkeley in the east bay. The best part of it is the parking lot! Its FREE (except during normal commute hours), mostly open and well-lit. Living close to this has made me take BART a lot more. Recently I was making a weekend trip out of town and discovered that they even offered the best deal in long-term parking! Yay for BART!
