Dropped my car off to Bartel's overnight. Called the next day and spoke with Matt and he seemed to be a great guy. Bartel's did their inspection and wanted to charge me $4000 for repairs. Me thinking this place was reputable and the damage was greater than my own visual knowledge agreed to it initially. However my wife and I spoke with a mechanic who had their shop in Chicago Heights. Based on the issues Bartel said was wrong provided and estimated $1000 for parts and labor before putting their own eyes on it. Anything over was highway robbery. I immediately pulled my car out the shop and had it towed to the new shop. But not before being charged $370 for labor. I guess they began disassembly and had to put it back together. However no work was performed. To me this seemed to include steps needed to do the Free inspection. When my wife went to the car to take some items out before getting towed she reported it was sitting in the lot with the lights on in the car. Luckily we came or the car battery would've drained as the tow truck wasn't available until the next day. Long story short turns out the other shop only charged me $900 instead of the quoted $1000. A far cry from the $4000 I was quoted at Bartels. I also received a warranty from the shop on the work they performed. They even mention that the strut Bartel said that needed to be repaired wasn't necessary. Which I'm sure was all apart of the quote to hike up the price. The new ship also got my car back up and running a day sooner than Bartels told me. So not only was Bartels more expensive but slower. My advice although the people seem nice they are the sharks of the old days preying on the desperate and uniformed. Luckily I had the resources to avoid this place. My advice is to get multiple quotes before choosing to do businesses here no matter how bad. Me towing the car was only $225 on top of the $900. I saved nearly $2800 avoiding this place. Those pictures may seem like they are there for your benefit but to the untrained eye it's all part of their scam.

Sloppy Work by Bartel's Auto Clinic. Spun my cam retainers and left them that way.

I brought my 2016 Ford F150 into Bartel's to have an alignment after I replaced the upper and lower control arms. When the mechanic tighten the lower control arm bolt they did not take there time and spun the cam-bolt retainer clips bending them and leaving them out of place. Had they hand tightened the lower control arm bolts snug first then held the back of the cam bolts with a wrench this would have not of happened. This is just plan sloppy work and not what you'd expect from a professional mechanic.

Update from last review, guess no oil change needed for quite awhile!

Within a mile of driving it the light was back on, I had scheduled another appointment for a week later for something unrelated. When I came in for that appointment (which included a diagnosis) they said that they couldn't diagnose it & that I would have to make a separate appointment & pay for them to address something that they didn't initially take care of. When they called to give me the diagnosis for the second visit, there was something fishy about how it was being handled & I was told that one repair would cost over $2000.00 & a second repair would cost over $5000.00 & the story kept changing (plus I was told that my car wasn't safe to drive.) I wasn't having any issues with my car until they told me during the first visit where they never fixed what it was brought in there in the first place. I read some negative reviews that described my situation to a "t" so I told them that I wasn't having any going to get a second opinion. They called backed twice trying to scare me into getting my car repaired by them. Even when I came in that first time I didn't feel like they gave much regard to me with regards to customer service, it was more about what was convenient for them & I was dismissed.

Doc Motor Works Auto Repair truly saved us on Black Wednesday -- the Wednesday before Thanksgiving…read more-- and I can't say enough good things about them. We were on our way out of town when one of our tires suddenly lost pressure. It was around 5:30pm, most places were closing at 6, and panic quickly set in. We first pulled into a nearby Tuffy to try filling the tire, but as the air went in, we could hear it coming right back out. Frantically looking around, I noticed Doc Motor Works next door and ran in about 10 minutes before closing. They must have seen the desperation on my face because Scott, the owner, was incredibly kind right away. The two gentlemen working with him were just as wonderful. They immediately took our car back and discovered not one, but two nails in the tire -- thankfully both were in spots that could be patched. While they worked quickly and efficiently, we waited inside where they have the coolest kids' area. My son literally said, "This is the best day ever!" The entire experience felt like one of those moments that restores your faith in people. Scott and his team were fast, professional, compassionate, and genuinely caring. Walking into this place completely changed what could have been a very stressful situation. If you're looking for honest, kind, and reliable auto repair -- this is the place. Amazing service all around.

I had a terrible experience at this shop and want to warn other car owners…read more I came in for a simple oil change on my car, which was supposed to cost $50 with a coupon. Before starting, the shop tried to upsell me over $1,000 in "recommended" repairs, including belts, battery, and spark plugs, which I declined. Then, after they drained my oil, they told me the oil filter cap was broken and said they couldn't finish the job unless I paid for a replacement. They claimed it had been "previously overtightened by another shop," but provided no proof that the damage wasn't done by them during the oil change. The oil filter cap is right next to the drain plug, so if it was really broken beforehand, they should have noticed that before draining the oil. At that point, my car had no oil and couldn't be driven, so I was basically forced to pay over $200 just to get my car back from a regular oil change. This felt like a pressure tactic and extremely unprofessional. If there was truly an issue with the part, they should have shown me before touching anything. Instead, I was put in a situation with no choice but to pay more than four times the agreed price. I will never return here and strongly recommend that others avoid this place if you want honest, transparent service.
