Weve been up and down this highway many many many times and never stopped here. We weren't very hungry but the kids were starving, so they were on board with a burger here. The place is traditional old fashioned burger joint, the miss who was cooking has been doing this a while, she was whipping out the burgers super fast. The young lady taking the orders was super friendly and didnt shoe a bit of stress for as busy as the place was. My kids LOVED the burgers and fries. They were genuine and fresh and cooked just right. Will definitely stop here again. Not bad for a roadside burger. read more

Wanted In n Out. Too far from where we were so checked Yelp for something closer. Saw some good reviews of this place and decided to try it. GREAT move. Very good customer service. Went here with my family for lunch and ordered 2 burgers and a polish dog. Everything was very good i did have them take my fries back and replace them with onion rings because they were to salty to eat but they did it without any atitude and gave me extra onion rings for the hassle.. This was a great cheeseburger and fries! You can order big ones but I prefer a regular size. Be sure to ask about their special sauce for the fries. Thursday night is buy one shake or float get one free so we had yummy root beer floats too. Glad we found this place for our drives on hwy 5. read more

So we stopped by on our way home from fishing the other day. It was hot, 107 degrees. And of course, Bartel's wasn't allowing anyone to sit inside. Fine. But then they didn't have their outdoor A/C system on either. That made eating outside unbearable. But we wait in line, because only in person inside at a time. Again, . When I get inside the lady behind the counter snaps at me, "It'll be a 35-40 minute wait for food." As I process how it could take so long to grill some burgers she snaps again, "So do you want to order or not?" Before I can answer another woman behind the counter yells at me to put my mask on. Mind you they are a good 10 feet from me and behind plexiglass and no one else is in the restaurant. So I look right at them and say, "You just convinced me not to." And we left. Good job guys, you scared off the business of 5 hungry adults. I wonder if the owner is ok with losing business so easily. Needless to say we went to the Olive Pit down the street and had a nice meal. read more

I stopped here after test driving new cars at Corning Ford as I was starving and this little place is right at the freeway entrance/exit. I had asked my car salesman about it and he told me he had gone there for lunch that very day and he told me it was good so I tried it. YUM! Small little dinner that makes old fashioned burgers, fries, onion rings and milkshakes to order. I had an Ortega burger with cheddar cheese and the works... really good. I highly recommend Giant Burger if you happen to be driving by or live in the area. I will be going back again soon! read more

Loved Bartel's as a kid, it honestly went down hill for a while. They've improved greatly over the past couple of years and I'm back to being a regular! We just went there for dinner and couldn't believe the service we got there. We had 5 kids with us and ordered kids meals for them. They said they weren't doing kids burgers (even though it was on the menu) so they would make them regular burgers (but at regular burger prices!) That's nearly $15 more for the kids to eat there with that price difference. Though we thought that was rude to not accommodate us for their menu change we decided to just order the burgers and share a large fry and not do a combo for each. They said they would give us a fry for free for the kids meal change (nice) but then charged us anyway. We asked for everything on the adult burgers and only got lettuce and tomato and had to go back and ask for onions etc. For our giant burger combo my husband ordered we ordered a large soda with it. The last thing we ordered was a large chocolate shake. When we all had our food and drinks we still hadnt gotten the large soda. I went back in and let her know we were still waiting on the soda and she said she upgraded that soda to a large chocolate shake (for the upgrade price, with out being asked to do so). I told her we had ordered those completely sepratly (it was seriously the first item on the reciept: giant burger combo, and last item was the chocolate shake). She said I could pay her for a soda if I wanted one. I thought I had! I ended up saying no thanks. After $75 spent there with all our diners we seriously felt like we burdened them by coming in and there was just no real attempts by them to have any customer service what so ever. read more

Last year i was southbound on I-5 at Corning and hungry, so i took exit 631 to go into Corning. But as i came off the exit i spotted this ramshackle burger place that just radiated authenticity and was clearly not some chain operation. Great medium rare (to order) burger and shake. Actually, it was so good that when i was passing by last week and not even hungry i stopped anyhow. And yep, it was as good as i remembered it. Now all i have to do is plan my trips so i'm passing Corning at meal times. read more

I have eaten a lot of burgers traveling across the country over many years, and no place has gotten close to the burgers I had growing up. .... until now! The food is fantastic, the service is excellent, the price is great, and the owners take pride in their business. To them, each customer is treated like family. We were lured off the highway by th olive pit...however Bartel's is the real find in corning. You wont find a better burger in America!! Eric Bartel and family run a great burger joint. I was very lucky to stumble upon this mecca of no frills burgerdom. I turned off the highway with my 135 pound mastiff in tow, hoping for a burger king with a strip of grass. Instead, I found wide open grass areas for my antsy pup to enjoy and a decent looking, old fashioned burger joint. After my pup got done with what he needed to do, I tied him up and went in to order. Good service, and they pointed me to the bathroom key without me needing to ask. I got back from the restroom to see some locals giving my pup the attention he was begging for. Very friendly folks there every time I've stopped there. My burger was up soon after and we got back on the road. It was a damn good burger. I've been stopping there ever since, with a similar story every time. Always a great burger cooked to order right in front of you, with more than ample parking and pet space, and friendly people behind the counter and in front of it. Ever driven 700 miles round trip to race a sailboat, and then there's so much wind that boats are upside down with broken masts most of the weekend while you're swimming down the river trying to get back on board? My boyfriend and I were driving on our way home to Newport Beach from Portland Oregon and needed somewhere to stop on the way. There wasn't much around the area but we were hungry and thought it would be nice and way better if we stopped in and tried a small family owned burger joint. When the food was done the girl walked out and was like don't tell anyone but here's two free burgers that we messed up. So we thought... we aren't from around here, how nice of them! But... when we opened up our burgers on the first one we asked for no cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and grilled onions with there fry sauce. The burger came out with pickles mayo and mustard and a crap ton of pickles to where the entire burger and buns were soggy. We decided to take it back because both the other burgers they were nice enough to give us were random and with cheese and a bunch of stuff we wouldn't eat. The girl came out explaining how wrong we were and how she took the order a certain way when we both remember specifically asking over the phone for fry sauce on the burger and for tomato and lettuce and all that. No idea why they would send someone out to try to tell the customer how they are wrong when clearly we know what we ordered. She must've heard incorrectly. The other burger that I received was made right but the buns got all flimsy and fell apart and for soggy and gross... worst burger I've ever had. We will never go back.... we would've been better off going to Burger King or McDonald's. read more

Wow... road tripping from my home in Orange County to Seattle Washington... I found this little gem on my way back down home and I gotta say... best burger I've had the entire trip, going to even say it's the best burger I've had in a looooong time. The meat was flavorful and fresh, juicy every single bite, it was huge, and the sauce they make daily here was amazing too, but I couldn't bring myself to put it on the burger because it already tasted amazing. Took my family from out-of-town here on Wednesday evening, remembering how awesome the food was when I used to go every Sunday for about a year, five years ago. Sadly, Bartels' quality has gone completely downhill since. The so-called "malted" tasted exactly the same as a regular milkshake. We were constantly waving away the flies (ugh!).
