Her dementia increased by leaps and bounds during the short period when she was here. She was, by turns, angry, anxious, hallucinatory, and overwhelmingly sad. She cannot have been easy to deal with, and yet the staff here was, to a person, kind, gentle, and caring. Their serenity and the love the bestowed on my mother was staggering to watch. This is not a job with great remuneration, and it must be enormously challenging, and yet every person was so committed and so present. When my mother passed away, the staff was equally kind to my brother and me. This was true of the top administrators, the activity directors, the custodians, and the caregivers themselves. One couldn't have asked for more, and I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat.

There are musical performances and other cultural and healthful activities. It's difficult for anyone to adjust to a new environment, and even more so for an elderly person with dementia. The Kensington Park staff do their best to welcome and acclimate new residents - which, with the added problem of Covid, is a challenge. They are kind and attentive, dealing with irritability and other behaviors with grace and patience. The management is very open to communication from family members and every issue is addressed. Visits from family members are easily scheduled. It's a good place.

Subsequently, I spoke to my friends' daughter who told me "since her mother broke her arm, she was not participating in activities, and was too tired from too many visitors. The supervisor's recommendation was no visitors other than once a week from each daughter, as per my friend. My friend is 97 yeaars old. The elderly NEED verbal stimulation, not isolation. My friend, the elderly lady, does not like this place and has expressed it in no uncertain terms. My experience with ideas like this ends in the life of the elderly person in less than 8 weeks. My friend (the daughter) has placed her mother in a prison because caing for her mother is an inconvenience.

The staff are attentive and caring and he still has more autonomy than he would in many other places. He did NOT want to go to a nursing home despite his increasing frailty . He requires assistance with all ADLs and medications. He is always well groomed, clean and in good spirits. All the staff address him by name and treat him with great respect and affection. His speech is difficult to understand because of strokes but they are uniformly patient and helpful. Three mornings a week we are together but I do stop in at other times and he is ALWAYS well cared for. Here is an opportunity for socialization that he didn't have at his independent facility in NJ. Meals are in the dining room; many different daily activities. He and I could not be happier with Grand Oaks And we feel that the VALUE is excellent. My mother was absolutely so…read morechallenging to manage once she got dementia and needed care and she was very difficult because she was contrary and didn't want any help or anyone to come near her. She became suspicious and distrustful of everybody. She stopped eating and taking care of herself in every way imaginable. I tried two other homes in less than a year prior to Artis and they were terrible at dealing with memory care and were impatient and easily annoyed with my mom and would complain about her to me. She was not properly cared for and received multiple injuries in these other places due to lack of care and attention. She was left alone at times when she should not have been and sustained so many fractures as a result of not being believed by the Nurses that she needed help when she would call out for help. It was really heartbreaking. Artis is the complete opposite! Artis serves and cares with so much attention to detail and patience and smiles and gentle redirection instead of not knowing how to deal with a "no" from her. Now I don't have to worry about her getting the medication she's supposed to get when she supposed to get it and I don't have to worry about her eating when she's supposed to eat and being hydrated and being attended to and made to feel valued and important instead of being dismissed. This place becomes home and you can breathe a sigh of relief and calm once your loved one is here. Special shout out to Lheo who is like a super hero and the only person in history to win my mom over and get her to feel safe and listen! Now she loves everybody there thanks to Lheo. This is not just a job to the Arts staff. They genuinely want their residents to be stimulated and feel at home and included. Loneliness does NOT exist here! So grateful to everybody there.

It feels less like a facility and more like a place where people are truly known and cherished. Are there a good workers? Yes. But the majority of the workers are overworked and understaffed to take care of those amounts of people. Talk to the patients, and you'll understand how hard they have it when it comes to being treated with respect. A few members of the staff are known to yell at patients and physically be aggressive with them. Trust me, you'll only want to send them here if you don't like your family or loved one to be taken care of.

Nobody at this location knew where she went. This is like losing a patient, should be One of the top five things a place like this does. I was the number 2 contact. Nobody was informed. My wife called to have her belongings packed up, They were not packed after two days.
