I found this company 7-8 years ago when I needed a dead tree removed. I had an amazing experience with them and left a yelp review. And I've used them a few times since then. But I'm writing this review now after a recent storm took out a substantial branch in the front yard. Randy was my first call and usually my ONLY call. Incredibly knowledgeable, great team working for him, they work quickly, do a great clean up job, always reasonable prices and he is great to work with (friendly, nice and responsive). As if that wasn't enough, he doesn't try to squeeze you for every dollar you've got. No upselling, no pressure. In fact, he recommended 2 years ago to trim a branch he didn't like. He said it was dying and the tree had been struck by lightning at some point and there was structural damage to it that he felt was a liability. It looked OK to me and I had spent money on other tree trimming work so I passed on it. MISTAKE. This is the branch that feel in the front yard from a recent storm. He knows his stuff. Randy's crew has helped me twice. Once was to take half a diseased tree down, the second time was to take the rest of it down a year later (I requested keeping half the tree the first time). I also needed to remediate the muddy section of my tiny yard, and Randy went out of his way to look around at stones, mulch, etc. on his own time. Now the tree and roots are gone, patchy sod was removed and the mud covered with several layers of mulch. Much better! Clean-up was great both times. Cost was extremely fair. I have used Bartholomew Tree Service for multiple tree trimmings for a humongous Elm tree in our backyard and they have always been professional and trustworthy and fair priced. Years later finally a storm brought down a huge branch on top of the garage and it was time for the whole tree to come down as after time the Elm had finally rotted on the inside and became a danger to the home and garage. Randy the owner diagnosed the issue correctly in detail like a doctor and his team did an outstanding job bringing down this huge tree that was in the back yard surrounded closely by house and garage, back deck and electrical wires. Yesterday, I had a large tree limb fall during the storm and I called Randy. He was out to my house in less than 10 minutes. He made an assessment of the damage and suggested removing a larger limb on the tree. I heard about Bartholomew when I drove past a neighbor's house and saw the trucks. I used to just have the guys who mow the lawn plant and trim my trees. But, over the years the trees have grown and become so part of the garden that I wanted them to look their best. Plus, they would cost a fortune to replace if they weren't healthy. I have used Bartholomew's tree service several times in the past few years. He is one of the nicest and most reasonable company despite his extensive knowledge and years in the business. Not only has Randy laid 15 yards of mulch in my yard, he has cared for my trees after a storm, removed debris and saving me a lot of back breaking work. Randy is very knowledgeable about trees. He and his crew were on time and did an excellent job removing two trees from our backyard including one that was dying that Randy diagnosed as having a fungal disease that could not be treated. They also carefully removed some pavers that we had on a foot path in order to get a piece of their equipment into the backyard and they carefully replaced the pavers when they were done. The crew worked quickly and efficiently and also removed a few "volunteer trees" in our hedge without any additional charge. This is an excellent company. He walked the property with me and knew the name of every tree, which ones could be saved, which ones needed to be stumped, and where the branches needed to be cut to help the tree grow and flourish. Last year two of my trees in the front lawn, a magnolia and a crabapple, were treated for a disease they developed. This summer I decided to remove the crabapple tree. Since I wasn't happy with the company we hired last year, I started asking around for recommendations of another tree service company. That didn't help and I felt kind of stuck not knowing where to find someone to trust. I did a google search, I contacted three very well known companies and I got three quotes ten days after my initial call! I wasn't happy with none of the three and the reason that I had to wait over a week to get a free estimate from each one of them didn't give me any confidence about their credibility. Then I turned to YELP and started reading the reviews of various tree service companies. I called Bartholomew Tree Service last Monday after reading so many excellent reviews about their service. Randy came and gave me a quote right next day, and Wednesday afternoon he came back with his crew, removed the crabapple, trimmed dead branches of all trees and pruned branches that brushed against the house. He took care of each one of the trees and bushes in my yard although most of them were not included in the quote he gave me! My experience with Bartholomew Tree Service was excellent from start to finish. Honestly, I cannot say enough for this company. Randy was a pleasure to deal with. He went above and beyond my expectations and treated my trees as if they were his own. His crew worked hard and fast.The tree removal, stump grinding, and sodding were perfectly executed. I would recommend this company to anyone needing trees removed. I called a few places to have them come look at this huge tree in my back yard. The problem with taking down my tree is there is no way to get any kind of large equipment into my yard. So everything had to be done manually. When I called Randy, he came out and told me there would be no problem getting it taken down and having the stump ground up. It was going to be an all day job but they would get it done. I had to reschedule due to needing ComEd to come and cut the power and also to notify our neighborhood. That was fine with me, Randy called to let me know right away that he couldn't come on our scheduled date due to ComEd needing more time for notification. The day the tree was being removed, Randy showed up with a team of 5 guys. He had two in the tree cutting and three on the ground cutting it up and hauling it away. It was an all day project but his team got it done. The only complaint that I had was he didn't give me a time he was going to be at my house and I called him that morning since I didn't hear from him and he told me they were in route. I just wish he would have called either the night before or that morning to let me know an approximate time they would be there. Other than that, I have no issues or complaints. Randy and his team did a great job taking down the tree, grinding the stump and cleaning up everything. Randy is very knowledgeable and even noticed an ornamental tree we had that wasn't growing.
