Sunrise has been treating and trimming my trees for 20+ years, and I'm never disappointed. They're very knowledgable, trim thoughtfully (rather than just cutting short), and seem to genuinely care about their work. I just had 3 trees trimmed, including one very large Ash, which they trimmed, installed a cable for support, and left it looking very healthy. I've been putting off trimming our trees for a while and decided to bite the bullet. Mike met me exactly when he said he would and we talked about each tree. He recommended full removal of one ("that one isn't doing much for you") and clearly was more interested in doing a good job than inflating the bill ("no need to touch those three.") I am the owner of Evanston Masonry. As such, and over 40 years working in this community, I have worked with many contractors and am rarely surprised. We were called to a residential project where a very large tree fell on to a very large chimney. The chimney was leaning precariously and being held up by a very large heavy branch. If the branch was lifted the chimney would certainly have fallen on the neighbors home. Mike Wall met me on site right on time and within a few hours he had two cranes, a cherry picker and a full compliment of men on site. By the end of the work day, the tree was gone and the chimney was set back in place allowing our men access to rebuild the chimney in normal fashion. Thanks Mike! Oh my god! I'm in Austria right now and half a tree fell into my Evanston backyard in the current weather. I told my house sitter to call Sunrise. Mike showed up within 35 minutes to assess, crew showed up 25 minutes later. The giant branch brought down the electrical feed to my house but didn't damage it, so his crew removed the branch from around it. His electrician referral is coming tomorrow to put wire back up. All around a tremendous response and excellent service. I love these guys!!!! read more

Since 2017 Sunrise Tree & Landscape has rendered professional service to our housing community at Lincolnwood Village in Boca Raton. Our regular tree and landscape maintenance kept our area so nice with trimmed trees and also bushes around our 65 homes. In 2018 and in 2020, Alvaro made sure after inspecting our property that all trees were properly trim before hurricane seasons. We had removed many contaminated trees and replaced them with nice Royal Ponciana trees which make our community huge backyard look like a park with flowers and colorful bushes. Alvaro design and planted for our community. During 2020 we called Sunrise regarding of 23 trees the city condemn due to termites and mildrew contamination, it was done and replaced with a similar healthy trees very promptly. They provided regular maintenance and pruning, to our fast growing trees. We have always worked with Alvaro Cornejo , who is very knowledgeable in horticulture. In 2021 this year we had 34 companies bid to remove all the one mile of ugly ficus bushes decaying due to white flies. Alvaro gave us the best prices and with incentives in removing all the old bushes that are now replaced with beautiful Clusea plants. The sunrise crew worked even on week ends to finish putting those Cluseas around the perimeters of all these 65 homes.After the work was finished, the price of all the properties went up, due to the great landscaping improvements and cares that Sunrise under Alvaro Cornejo's supervision gave Lincolnwood Village. We are happy to have found such a professional and dependable company. Boca Bella condo will have them help in improving the landscape with maintenance and tree planting. I called 5 tree service companies to get quotes to remove a large pear tree, a hemlock and several large shrubs from my property in Winnetka. One of the arborists for Sunrise (Lou) responded within the hour and was out to inspect the job the next day, a Sunday. Two other companies gave quotes but Sunrise had the best price so I hired them. There was a hiccup on scheduling but Carey in the office promptly responded to my complaint and they were out the next day to do the work. The crew was great, the job was done expertly and everything was cleaned up 100%. Would recommend without reservation. read more

Lyle were great & patient. They had to take a sentimental tree down. He was professional & took so much time to make replacement trees. But that's were the good ended. They had my $4k. Saw damage on 1 tree they planted & no response. Finally a text saying he needs 5-10 days to respond & gave me I text pic of the damage. I was home & he snuck on the property & left so he wouldn't have to talk to me. And, he billed for double the time & men it took to do another issue. Again, I was home to watch all the work. Changed to Lou. I think he's great & responsive. Unfortunately, the 2 large trees Lyle's crew planted are dying. I'll update as I see how they honor their warranty. But, I have every confidence in Lou. He already identified a deficiency in Lyle's tree care plan. read more

This company is a joke. I called and spoke to a nice woman to set up an appointment for an estimate. Everything sounded very professional until some guy named Lyle called back............First he told me unless I have time today for us to meet he will not be available for the next 3 weeks which was ok for me the snow needed to melt from the trees anyway but what shocked me was his arrogance when he told me he was too expensive for me that's when I thanked him for his call and took my business to someone else. read more

In 2010 we called Sunrise regarding a tree the city had marked for removal due to Emerald Ash borer. Since then they have provided regular maintenance and pruning, since many of our trees had been neglected over the years. We have always worked with Mike Wall, who is knowledgeable, professional, and easy to work with. He will tell us what needs to be done, and also what is not necessary. ( ! ) Recently our neighbor wanted to remove a tree that was on the property line, because some limbs were hanging over his roof and were very close to overhead lines. He was surprised at the difference in prices, and we went with Sunrise. After the work was finished, our neighbor commented on how quickly and neatly the job had been done. Avoid this company and especially the arborist Mike Wall (and his crew) unless you're prepared to handle on your own all the mistakes they make. A test of a good company is not what they do when things go right, but how they handle errors and problems. Sunrise's receptionist, Carey, and Mike Wall seem to have an unstated motto when things go wrong: close ranks, deny everything, never apologize, and leave the customer or member of the public to clean up the mess. In May my adjoining neighbor called Sunrise to remove a tree that borders our two properties. We agreed to split the cost and my neighbor took the lead on making arrangements. The tree was very old and very big (over a hundred feet probably) and had already dropped limbs in recent spring storms. Within about a half hour of the job starting, one of the limbs broke off unexpectedly and fell on my neighbor's garage roof. In the process, either a piece of their equipment (Sunrise used a cherry-picker for the removal) or something else hit the electrical wire to my home and it shook and fell between five and seven feet from its original placement. (I immediately took a photo because I'd heard the shout of alarm and watched my wire shake and fall, so wanted to document it. Because I often stand at my back window and take photos, I had a before photo from just a couple weeks earlier showing the wire considerably higher.) To make a long story short, the receptionist, arborist, and crew all denied Sunrise played any role in our electrical wire being damaged. When I tried to speak to the arborist, Mike Wall, he stood outside my house, listened for about twenty seconds, told me nothing had happened and walked away, saying gruffly that we should "ask the crew." He never took the time to see my before and after photos - which I told him I had - and never bothered to come to my back yard to see for himself the wire. Members of the crew then proceeded to trot out one by one telling me in limited English that nothing had happened nor could it have happened (all the while glancing at Mike for approval). When I became irate at their denials, Mike told me, "I would never want you for a customer anyway!" What? My wire was damaged from work he did and now he was telling me I was the problem. Really? For the next two days, I had to work on my own with ComEd and my own electrician to get the wire fixed. When I spoke to the city's forestry department (seeking advice and information), they told me that the problem I had was fairly common since electrical wires have a trip system that allows them to lengthen when under weight or pressure, which prevents structural damage to homes or the poles. Sunrise's arborists would know this, but they never told me. In fact, I learned from another tree company that best practice when removing such a large tree is to turn off the electricity and lower the wire to the ground in order to prevent just this kind of accident. Sunrise's shortcut thus became my problem and my problem alone. When I reached out to the company asking to speak to the owner (and encouraging them to lower the bill my neighbors and I would pay), a second arborist was put on the job and he dragged out the process several weeks, never apologizing but saying only that he had to deal with "old guards" in the company whose business practices weren't so great. I guess I was meant to sympathize: yes, I know it's tough working in a company that takes no responsibility, blames the public when things go wrong, and lets others pick up the pieces. After following up with this arborist for three weeks (he never called me, I always called him), he finally told me his "hands were tied" because the bill had already been paid. Again, no apology, no effort to help, nothing, just a lot of wasted time. read more
