I scheduled an appointment with Emerald Lawn Care for a lawn service quote, and their sales representative no-call, no-showed twice. I understand that things happen and appointments sometimes get missed. However, missing two scheduled appointments with absolutely no call, text, or communication is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. Taking time out of my day twice to meet with someone who simply doesn't show up shows a complete lack of respect for a potential customer's time. If this is how they handle basic scheduling and communication before even becoming a customer, it does not give much confidence in how they operate their business. Used Weedman for 2 years, never an issue, worked very fast. Also safe for the dogs. My wife took it on her own to use them for some reason. Clipped her up front, they win, you lose if no good as with us. Who knows, they said their chemicals are safe for dogs as WEENMAN, yet nothing in writing, I wonder why. I used Emerald for 5 years and was happy with them in the beginning. However it seems as the quality has gone down considerably over the last year or so, as the last few applications were not done very well. I called them a week or so later to let them know that I really wasn't very happy with how many weeds were still in my lawn. After sending them pictures Eric G. texted me back and stated that the lawn was just to thin, and if I wanted them to come back and treat it they would charge me again. Needless to say if I'm going to pay for an additional application, it will be with another service. Considering that their prices have gone up over the years (which is expected) I thought the service would still be consistently good. This is not the case. They easily could have kept a customer happy by just coming back out and doing a spot spray, but it's clear that keeping customers happy is no longer high on their agenda. Such a shame. read more

DO NOT USE! I too fell for the all the stars and a personal recommendation. When I signed up, I clearly voiced my concerns my lawn, mainly weeds, and was assured that my lawn was in good hands. FYI, when they come out and see weeds in your lawn, they spit treat them. I live on 1 acre, and can assure you they did not spot treat the acre! Can you imagine? You'd be out there all day! My lawn went from looking not so great to horrible AFTER service w them. They say 100% satisfaction guarantee, but they do not stand by it. I was told that they cannot prevent weeds but can only treat them and that I needed to adjust my expectations. Why didn't they say that to me upfront before taking my money? Half way thru the season the manager tells me we are not a good fit and decided there wasn't anything more they could do for me. I have pics with a weed infested lawn. My neighbors who had worse grass than me, went with a big box company at a fraction of the cost I was paying, and their lawn looks a hundred times better than mine. I thought going w a smaller company, they'd offer a more personalized approach and take better care of their clients. Do yourself a favor, and keep looking if you're looking for lawn care. read more

After a few years with Emerald Lawn Care, our backyard lawn has shown much improvement. The front lawn, not so. When I walk through the neighborhood I see some lush lawns and wish ours could look the same. It seems that the Emerald staff members are earnest and willing but I'm hoping for better results next year. We are mowing at the proper height and watering the recommended amount. Maybe we are asking too much of a 70-year-old lawn. Adding new seed is difficult with the timing of the lawn care treatments. Also, if we are on the schedule, it would be good to know in advance to adjust our timing of mowing or raking leaves. read more

I am kicking myself for not reviewing Emerald five years ago! When we moved into our house in Palatine the lawn was a disaster. There were weeds and clover everywhere. And while I love bees, bees + clover + bullmastiffs that try to eat bees = many many swollen bullmastiff eyes/mouths/etc. Emerald whipped that lawn into shape in no time and cared for it perfectly for five years before we moved to California. They were also very respectful of our large garden and raspberry areas that we asked them not to get close to with weed killer or fertilizer. My home is on a corner and is lined on the parkways with tree's exceeding 50'. These tree's shade my entire parkway and 75% of my area lawn. In the past, BEFORE I CONTRACTED WITH EMERALD LAWN CARE, I used shade growing grass, plugs, and spray on types all to no avail. A co-worker shared his pleasure with Emerald so I took a chance. After a site visit by one of the technicians and the knowledge and expertise he demonstrated i opted to give them a chance. IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID. I can proudly say my lawn is full, green and weed free. You can't ask for better customer service. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Mark, Tracy, and others as I have wanted to minimize chemical exposures to my kids, but still achieve the best lawn I can. Every call I have been amazed with how they never sound annoyed with me, let alone how detailed they are with explanations. We used this service last summer (2016). The treatment was not effective for my lawn. We did plenty of work ourselves this spring, and the lawn looks great. Yesterday, I was surprised to find an Emerald truck outside, with a guy spraying my lawn (that I had just added seed to, etc.). He indicated that we were signed up... that services "Automatically" renew unless you cancel them. Then he told me that we must be prepaid for the current service, because there was no charge at this time. I called to cancel the services this morning... he indicated that we indeed did have a balance, and that the auto renewal notice is given at the time of purchase and is written on every statement. He was right... it was on my statement, but I did not read the small print at the bottom. My fault, but I would never do business with these guys. Both the lawn treatment and the customer treatment were pitiful. read more

I did not end up hiring this company however i felt like a review was in order. Very nice people, Prompt response regarding quotes and communication. I dropped stars based on the shady pricing scheme. I received 6 different quotes from companies and not one flip flopped pricing like emerald. Every removal or if you deviated from the Package deal, the per application pricing changes and is not set. The other part is that its automatically renewed each year, not a fan myself. Not saying the company is bad but the business model of price changing is a hard pass for me. It just comes off as shady work when 5 other company quotes don't flip flop like that. read more

moving to Emerald Lawn from True Green is just the perfect move. I could have move to them long time ago but was so busy until my wife told me that our lawn is just getting worst with True Green. Lawn has improved not much (some areas has spotty lawn still) but better than True Green. This is my 3rd year with them. all service people are polite as i can see them working on all my security camera...i am just not sure if they do other services such as insects control as last time i called them i was advise to just call someone or do it yourself??? also they have been increasing their service at least 2% a year, not bad but if you want to keep your customer loyal to you then always keeps the same pricing or even better attract them by a small price decreases instead of a small price increases. otherwise consumers will continue switching (we all do) from one provider to another just like car insurance, home insurance, streaming services and hey even for a haircut...the State is so corrupt, worst than a 3rd world country that you get robbed with your hard earned $$$ for all these freeloaders increasing taxes which you can use to pay for some of your services at your home such as this... read more

The Emerald service guy promised he could revive it by going back to non-organic and he did within a few months! My neighbors use services and have weeds. My yard was being taken over by creeping charlie - after the first application, it was back to grass - amazing!! I was initially concerned about chemicals, but Mark, the owner, made a plan to attack the weeds and keep things almost completely organic. Mark occasionally stops by to inspect spots where I've had questions. The office staff and service technicians are all very nice. This is part 2 of the previous review. We have had 2 slow release fertilizer applications and 1 weed control application so far (in last 2 months). I must say the results are obvious and outstanding. Before we started the applications, I had turf of 2 different colors. One was the new sod which was laid out in a small area and was dark green (as it should be) and the rest of the lawn which was turning yellowish green. There were weeds all over the place and the grass was so hard that one could not walk on the lawn bare feet. After these 3 applications I am happy to report that the entire lawn is now dark green and grass is super soft. The weeds are all gone too. It is amazing to see how much it has improved in last 2 months. We still have crabgrass issue but that is because we could not get the crabgrass pre-emergent done this season due to starting late and having seeded in most areas. However I am confident that we will overcome this issue too with time. Through out this process Mark (the owner) has been very patient with my questions and concerns. He would continously check the progress and health of the lawn by personally doing a tour every couple of weeks and then emailing me his observations and recommendations. He also makes sure I am informed at least 1 day in advance of the upcoming application and that it does not conflict with my scheduled mowing visit. There are still couple of applications pending for this season and I am very confident that they will continue to improve upon the existing conditions and make us enjoy our lawn even more.
