The lawn is freshly mowed, but the property is not nearly as well laid out as the much larger cemetery on the east side of I 35. Towards the north east corner of the property you will find the older headstones from the late 1800s. This is still an active graveyard primarily in use by African Americans. There are just nine grave markers on the property, the newest being from 1977. It would be a peaceful little cemetery if it wasn't for the noise of the I 35 traffic just a short distance away. There are three historical structures, including a church directly next to the cemetery. There's a few parking spaces just a few feet away where you can visit the other historical structures seen in the photos below.

It is remarkably well organized and tended to with a gravel road running through some entrances. On the north end of the property you'll find the older gravemarkers from the late 1800s and early 20th century. All of these older headstones have been well cleaned, cared for and restored. Most of the family plots here are covered in P gravel with concrete borders. I found 8 Texas historical signs (there might be more!) relating to the cemetery and some of its notable occupants. To be honest, I have never seen so many Texas historical signs in a cemetery, there's a lot of history in the folks buried here. At the south end of the property are the newer interments including a covered area for a memorial. On the far south side, there is still quite a number of acres available for future interments in case you're interested. The 10 photos included don't even begin to capture the scope of this amazing piece of property. If you're a Texas history buff this would be a good place to stop.

This is one of those well laid out and organized cemeteries of family plots with borders. This is still a very active cemetery with numerous well visited graves adorned with momentos. There are many headstones from the late 1800s and early 20th century. There is a sign at the entrance stating that there are 105 Confederate soldier graves on the property. Many of these older graves are blended in with the newer ones. There is a semi paved, gravelly road that weaves through the entire complex and near the center is a covered memorial area. Towards the back half is where the more interesting markers are. There are some above ground mausoleums, including a full-size family mausoleum. Towards the rear is where you'll also find one or more Texas historical signs. There's far more to see here than the pictures below spell out. The best entry point is on Industrial Park Road. At the entrance closest to H-E-B you'll find a very detailed layout of the cemetery which will provide you with lots of information. The entire cemetery seems to have a randomly laid out pattern of headstones and markers with some family plots, but mostly just individual markers. Many headstones found here are cast in concrete instead of granite. As the sign at the entrance points out, there are many unmarked graves as well which are primarily former slaves and other African-Americans. Most of the graves have long since been forgotten about, but there are still quite a number of newer graves that are well tended by family members. The grounds are mowed, but there are quite a number of headstones in a state of disrepair. Just outside the small town of Jonah sits this small 2 acre cemetery, just off of busy Highway 29…read more There is no parking lot so you'll have to park directly on the side of the road to gain access. The cemetery is well-maintained and has several designated family plots. This is still an active graveyard for the local residents of Jonah and the latest interment was from 2022. Despite many of the residents in this cemetery being born in the 1800s, everyone here was buried here after 1902. There still appears to be enough room for another 50 graves. The most prominent locally well known name that I found here is Gattis. Moody and Threadgill were a couple of other familiar names. The Texas historical sign at the entrance adds more insight.

This is a small cemetery of a few hundred graves that sits behind Saint Paul's Lutheran Church,…read morewhich is just a couple of blocks off of Highway 79 in the town of Thorndale. Virtually all of the names on the grave markers have German roots. This is still very much an active cemetery with plenty of room to grow. There is a Texas historical sign in front of the church, which has more information on it in the photos below. On the west side of the cemetery you'll find quite a number of children's graves from the early 20th century. There is no listing of names as to who is buried where, but that may be available in the neighboring church. This is the final resting place for those in this local community.

My brother-in-law died and I had to clean out his apartment so I contacted Earl to do the moving. I…read moretold him what pieces needed to be moved and where they needed to be moved (3 different homes in Temple) and he gave me a quote. Then he proceeded to treat my furniture with very little care and ended up scratching and totally destroying one piece of furniture! En route, he called to give me "bad news" which is that one of the side tables that he was transporting flew off the truck and was destroyed. He did not offer to replace it or offer me any kind of compensation for destroying the table. Even though I offered him blankets to pad the furniture he told me it wasn't necessary, nor did he adequately strap down the furniture, and he was transporting the furniture on a cloudy day and didn't even use a tarp. I was lucky that my furniture was only rained on a little bit and didn't get ruined that way either! We delivered furniture to two other peoples houses and one of the ladies who received the bed told me she found them to be very rude. They completely dropped her mattress in the dirt and grass and acted like it was no big deal -- twice! They should have had straps to help them move the mattress. I told them they were moving a bed! They were moving a dresser and two nightstands to another home and forgot two of the drawers in the apartment so my friend had to come over to get them. They assured me the drawers were there but clearly they were not! Overall I cannot recommend this mover and I would caution anyone who values their furniture to wrap it in bubble wrap before letting TruckR handle it, or better yet, find someone else.

We enjoyed the short chat we had with him and he also went over the operation of it with us a little. I thought that was pretty good since that probably was not part of his job. He was prompt courteous and we highly recommend him and his company if you need someone to pick up and deliver something for you. Give him a call, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
