There are some new homes being erected less than a mile away (Brooklands subdivision). The one thing that was noticeable about the cemetery is the fact that it has been well cared for and many of the headstones have been cleaned. There is also a Texas historical sign with some great information concerning this cemetery (pictured). The cemetery that sits on about 1 to 2 acres on a gently rolling hill with a fenced perimeter. The majority of the graves are from the mid1800s on up and there are a couple of newer graves, one is from 2021. Like many of the cemeteries from this time period, sadly many of the graves are those of children. Within the space you'll see some historical names, such as Hutto. This is definitely a cemetery worth visiting if you're into such things, however, I'd recommend an off-road vehicle to get to it. After publishing this I realized that Yelp maps got the location wrong. The location is almost 2 miles away from where they say it is. You actually have to take County Road 163 until it dead ends at the cemetery which is nothing more than a single lane dirt road. I believe that Google maps has the better location.

It sits just on the outskirts of the Hutto city limits and despite still being somewhat in the country, there are some new homes next to it. There are quite a number of headstones from the 1800s and there are many veterans buried here including a couple of confederate soldiers. The cemetery has a single lane gravel road running through the sections. This is still an active cemetery judging by a few very recent burials. There is a Texas historical sign at the entrance that tells you some great historical facts and is included in the photos of this review. This location is well manicured and the headstones are well arranged, not scattered about. You'll find many well cared for headstones, but there are no above ground mausoleums. This is one of the nicest cemeteries worthy of spending some time walking through.

The property is relatively well cared for, and even the older headstones from the late 1800s have been cleaned and restored. Like pretty much all cemeteries from this time, people did not live very long and you see plenty of infant and child graves. This may or may not be an active cemetery anymore since the last internment here was in 2012. I did find some Woodman of the world markers and a confederate soldier grave. One thing that was conspicuously absent was a Texas historical sign. The pictures included tell the rest of the story.

This is an active cemetery with thousands of interments the most recent of which was September 2022, the time of this writing. Much of the cemetery is devoted to vertical headstones, but on the other side all the headstones are flush to the ground. There is a nice paved road that runs through the cemetery and all the headstones are neatly lined up and orderly. There are a number of headstones from the late 1800s but the vast majority are from the 20th century and later. After walking the grounds I could find no Texas historical plaque. This is a small cemetery of a few hundred graves that sits behind Saint Paul's Lutheran Church,…read morewhich is just a couple of blocks off of Highway 79 in the town of Thorndale. Virtually all of the names on the grave markers have German roots. This is still very much an active cemetery with plenty of room to grow. There is a Texas historical sign in front of the church, which has more information on it in the photos below. On the west side of the cemetery you'll find quite a number of children's graves from the early 20th century. There is no listing of names as to who is buried where, but that may be available in the neighboring church. This is the final resting place for those in this local community.

At the entrance closest to H-E-B you'll find a very detailed layout of the cemetery which will provide you with lots of information. The entire cemetery seems to have a randomly laid out pattern of headstones and markers with some family plots, but mostly just individual markers. Many headstones found here are cast in concrete instead of granite. As the sign at the entrance points out, there are many unmarked graves as well which are primarily former slaves and other African-Americans. Most of the graves have long since been forgotten about, but there are still quite a number of newer graves that are well tended by family members. The grounds are mowed, but there are quite a number of headstones in a state of disrepair. This cemetery is located a short walk away from the Bethany cemetery just a couple of blocks away…read moreon Springdale Road. There is a one dirt road driveway that leads in to the cemetery, but it does have a locked gate to prevent entry by car. Unlike the Bethany cemetery, I was not able to find a Texas historical sign posted here. There's not much in the way of a cemetery lawn to speak of, but it is adorned with dozens of well manicured oak trees on a hilly 5 acre lot. This cemetery, like the Bethany cemetery, is primarily populated by African-Americans. There are also dozens of graves belonging to military service members. There still appears to be more room for future interments. The photos below add more insight.

TLDR: A pleasant cemetery that caters to all faiths and offers green burials. Grounds have some…read morelovely sculptures but the best part is the beautiful prayer garden. I think I want to be buried here. A lovely and serene place. A variety of sculptures are placed throughout the grounds. On one side, there is a green, lush pasture with grazing cows. On another side, the most beautiful aspect of this cemetery -- the prayer garden. It was larger and more pleasant than I expected. There is a lovely little pond and a trail that passes multiple family plots. It has that magical hidden-from-the-world feeling. I neglected to take photos since I wanted to avoid photographing any gravestones. Why doesn't every cemetery have a prayer garden!? This cemetery serves all faiths. Oh and they offer GREEN BURIALS (sign me up). There's no official parking lot -- you just find areas to pull over. There is a slightly larger area to pull over by the portable toilets (by prayer garden entrance). Cemetery hours are dawn to dusk, daily. The official hours listed here are for the office, which has limited hours and is closed on weekends. Office staff is very friendly (I called to confirm hours).

3.5 This is a very…read morenicely maintained cemetery. Several of the graves were covered in rose bushes and floral arrangements that you may not see in other places. There were some gravel pathways and and some statuary that were very pretty. Behind the graves there was a prayer walk way with headstones, chimes and figures dedicated to St. Francis of Asisi. There is no real parking lot to speak of but you can park on the gravel near the opening of cemetery. Also, there are no real bathrooms here. There is a port o potty but it's super gross so be aware to take care of that somewhere else.
