Went by to have lunch today. Got the Chicken Plate on the daily special. Chicken was tender and moist. Size was just right for lunch portion. The Pecan Pie Cobbler was out this world. (Got a dish of that to go for later tonight.) Wish the sauce had been a little spicy but that's just me. I like everything spicy! My wife makes fun of me because I sprinkle cayenne on my Jalapenos. :) Will definitely be back. read more

I really hate to give a bad review to a place I've loved for so many years but I was just terribly disappointed with my last visit. I went in with a coworker for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and ordered a two meat plate with ribs and hot link. My friend got sausage and fried bologna. Her plate was the most sparse plate I've ever seen there. I got 3 very small ribs and half of a hot link for my 2 meat plate. So disappointing. It was barely a few bites. I normally need a to go box but on this occasion, I left still hungry. For this I paid $13. Was it because I came during Grapefest? I've always loved the value Bartleys has provided but if this is the new standard portion, I'm done, especially with the lure of a brand new concept opening a block down NW highway. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. I wouldn't feed this food to a stray dog. I'm from lockhart and I can't understand why not one place in DFW can get it right. My Husband and I went to Bartley's at closing time last week. Normally the reception wouldnt be so great walking in the door right at closing time, but Sam not only served us up some great food but comedy too. He came by and told us many jokes, when I told him my Husband's ribs were AWESOME he immediately went and got me a few of my own at no cost. You just do not get service like that anymore! My boyfriend tried this joint earlier this week and could not stop bragging about them (and he's really picky, so I knew right away this place was going to be pretty darn good)! I gotta hand it to them, they make a killer jalapeño and cheese sausage, pulled pork, pork loin, and brisket (that's all I had the opportunity to try this time, meat wise). The mac and cheese, beans, jalapeño tater tot poppers were quite tasty as well. The barbecue sauce (spicy, sweet, and original) were absolutely mind blowing. The different sauces seemed like they had brought out multiple layers of tastiness. And last but not least, the service was swift and deserves 5 stars by itself. Just had the brisket plate.. Was undercooked and hard. The sausage was fine. Mac and cheese was Velveeta out of a box... Uugghh. Maybe they were off their game today, but no can do for DFW bbq. The saving grace was the service. read more

Read about this place in DMagazine and decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did! I'm a brisket guy and the bark was exceptional, moist and juicy. There are more sides than what's out, like jalapeño cheese tots, made fresh to order. I wish I had a bigger bowl for that pecan cobbler! I will definitely be making a return visit soon! read more

Drove all way from WichitaFalls just for lunch after hearing about Bartleys. Was worth the drive. Links were good. Chicken had good smoke flavor, Ribs so tender could fall off bone. Sauce is good so get extra to dip fries in(real cut fries not frozen ones. Don't leave until you get the pecan pie cobbler. read more

We went here on a trip back to the D/FW area last weekend. This place has that nostalgic Texas BBQ kind of feel to it. Walk in and order cafeteria style. I went with a three meat but might have gone with the all you can eat option if it wasn't lunchtime and was planning on having a significant dinner later, so my son and I sharing a three meat would be more than enough. I got the brisket because...Texas, and I also got the pork ribs as well as an unusual offering for a Texas BBQ place but is something you see quite a bit in Memphis, BBQ bologna. The look of items I didn't get was nice, especially the pork loin, but I had to try the bologna. I got potato salad and glazed carrots for sides and it came with a nice dinner roll. The verdict overall was good, not outstanding but good utility barbecue. The brisket was lean and moist but not very smoky and lacked much of that smoke ring. The ribs were flavorful but a bit fatty, the standout on my plate was the bologna of all things. It was wonderful with the dry rub that they put on it. The sides we good bit not exceptional. The pulled pork sandwich that my wife had was excellent, definitely one of the better offerings. I would go back if for no other reason to try their pork loin, and perhaps some of the other meats that I didn't get. read more

I love this place! We needed a quick place to eat on our way to the airport, and wanted one more barbecue meal before we left Texas. It was very quick because you walk through the line and choose your food. I got the three meats (brisket, turkey, ribs) and my husband got the ribs. All of the meat was amazing! The ribs were my favorite, but I might have to get all three again when I go back. You get to dish your own sides. I wasn't very hungry so I just took a little bit of potato salad and squash. I wish I had taken more of both! I have no idea what they did to the squash to make it so good, but I ate all of mine before I even got to the meat. The potato salad was creamy and delicious! I read another review that said it was tasteless, so I almost chose something else, but it looked so good and I would definitely get it again. They must have changed it since the other review! The roll that came with the meal was also delicious! Must have been homemade because it was so fresh and fluffy! I don't usually eat the toast or bread that comes with meals, but I ate the whole thing. I wish I had tried the desserts! I should have gotten a few to go. I can only imagine they would be exceptional, like everything else I ate there! AND everyone was so nice! The employees and the customers! I can't wait to go back! read more

My buddy said this place was on a top BBQ list so we decided to try it. I think we may have just been there on a bad day because I read one review where they said the brisket just fell apart and that was not my experience. The guy cutting the meat was having to really use some force just to slice it and once i started eating it I had to go back and get a knife just to cut it into smaller pieces. I would not ever go there again. We have better BBQ in Connecticut. I had the two meat plate. The chopped beef was good but the pork was dry and tough. My girlfriend had the BBQ chicken which was just so so. The sauce was poor quality for a BBQ joint. Store bought sauces such as masterpiece or kraft would have been better. I'd heard a lot about Bartley's from a co-worker and decided to give it a try one day. I had a takeout order of Cajun Turkey and Ribs and they were both great. The ribs were flavorful with the meat falling off the bone and the Cajun Turkey was some of the best I'v ever had with spices in just the right amount and excellent meat. My friend tried the loaded baked potato and said it was great and was really pleased with the fact that you could choose to load it up with several choices of meat and was surprised that they didn't try and skimp out on it. All in all, great food and a great price and I look forward to eating their food again. read more

After essentially giving up on finding good barbecue in DFW (or any other major city for that matter), I have finally found good barbecue here. For years I have been complimenting certain other places by saying they had the "most consistently mediocre barbecue in Dallas". And I truly meant that as a strong compliment as their are dozens and dozens of places in DFW that aren't even close to mediocre. Bartley's is on a whole different level. There were a few other people in line ahead so I was able to watch the gentleman (who was turning 82 today but didn't look a day older than 60) slice several cuts. The turkey looked amazing as did the 3 meat poboy. However, I came here for brisket and that's what I ordered (from the fatty end of course). The brisket he was currently slicing was from the flat end but he didn't mind grabbing a fresh cut of the point side. Today's brisket was as close to ideal as I've had in many years. It was cooked to perfection with all of the fat fully rendered into moist goodness. An oak smoke flavor was evident but subtle as it should be. The bark had a nice flavor and it would seem that they do very little to the meat before cooking in the way of rubs. The sauce wasnt anything special nor should it have been. This isn't the kind of barbecue that you would want to drown in sauce but if you do use the sauce, it won't overpower the meat. All of the vegetables looked good. I had the green beans and the jalepeno cheese things. They also serve fresh yeast rolls, which I love. The practice in TX of serving loaf bread with barbecue should be outlawed IMO. The people/family seemed very nice and friendly and made us feel like we have been coming here for years when it was our first visit. A 40 minute drive for us and worth every bit of it. Good barbecue doesn't happen by accident and I appreciate the work that goes into getting brisket to come out this good. Thanks for the great meal!!! read more
