My mom is crying because the love I have for her cooking has just been betrayed. This food was absolutely fantastic and is hands down THE best BBQ I've had in Texas. And I'm shamed to say I've tried a lot. We came for a late lunch and what appeared to be the owner was serving us. One of my work friends asked what was best. He replied that the brisket and ribs sold the best but he actually loved the pork roast and jalapeno sausage. So he then orders something else. We both then promptly gave him a hard time. It showed that he had great character. Later he came around to every patron and meaningfully asked how it went. He was sincerely interested in the customer experience. I went all out and sampled my friends orders. So there's a lot and I'm still suffering from a protein overdose. Most of the above I tried, but I wish I filled in all four that he recommended. Green beans - well done but safely in the fairway. Roll was super fresh, fluffy and tasty. Onions on the side were nice and sweet. That's it with the above average. Everything else was exceptional. The brisket was great. Amongst the best that I've had. Perfectly smokey, falls completely apart readily. No need for BBQ sauce, but they had three flavors. I tried the regular and they should bottle it for sales. The pork loin was super moist, perfectly cooked, and beyond my literary abilities. I may have had a religious moment. My dork work mate missed out here. The regular sausage was off the charts. It was a polish flavored sausage and I wish I could find more of this close to me. I'd be ordering it for many future meals. One of the other buddies ordered this jalapeno tater tot thing because the cashier recommended it. Well I do too! The only disappointment of the visit was that I didn't order that one. The baked beans were just so good that I'm now disowned. I used to hold my mother's baked beans as the high water mark. No more. Sweet, thick, and cooked with brisket. Finally, I topped off my stomach's capacity with some of the pecan cobbler. Made by the bakery next door and they too should get a few stars on this one alone. Everyone has their #1favorite bbq place.(mine is The Shedd in Abilene Texas). Next are the places with really good bbq and you remember them so you can go back. Last are the hundreds of places that are "just another bbq joint". Bartley's is in the second group. We'll start with the service. The 2 girls that helped me were absolute angels. We laughed and cut up but they would NOT let me take their picture. That's ok, I remember them well! She fixed me a big 3 meat plate with 2 sides that was more than I could eat. Of course I got the famous pecan cobbler (thank you Ray!), and they gave me free cinnamon roll to try. The ribs were tender and the fatty brisket was just like I like it. The last few times that I have got food to go the "sliced brisket" has been dry and cut up in pieces. I think they give me the ends of the brisket and what is left over, rather than giving me sliced brisket :( Very disappointed. read more

They catered to our office today in Dallas/Richardson area (20+miles away). Everything was perfect! Meat was fantastic! Green beans, potato's salad, beans and rolls were so good! I typically don't like BBQ but I ate every bite. Arrived on time (in heavy security). Meals were all individually wrapped. Price was totally reasonable. ZERO COMPLAINTS! HIGHLY recommended! This is one of my top 3 BBQ places anywhere. The ribs are absolutely the best with near perfect smoke ring, sweet tangy flavor, meat pulls easily off the bone and always fresh tasting! The secret here is the smoked bologna. Ask to try some before you order something else. You may change your mind on what you thought you were going to order. The sides are very tasty and the desserts are great as well. I'm always torn between the cobblers. I like the pecan the best. The place has the family feel and is family run. The accolades hang on the wall from many years of being one of the best in Texas. I think they are better than that! Plenty of parking and get here early for lunch. It pains me to leave this review. I have frequented this establishment and like supporting local businesses. But the last order was so disappointing. The brisket was old and crumbly and had no flavor. The ribs were nothing special but they were meaty. We really enjoyed the turkey out of the 3 meat plate. Their stuffed potatoes are huge but I was not impressed with the pulled pork. Sides were decent. As always friendly folks maybe had an off day but for $70 it just was not worth it. read more

We had just gotten to town and looking for good BBQ place. Found this online, came here for lunch, I got the sandwich special and my hubs got a 2meat plate. The brisket and jalapeño sausage were delicious. The Mac and cheese was generic but the other sides were really good, and the pecan cobbler was awesome. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the price was very reasonable, especially compared to what we would have paid at our hotel restaurants. Would definitely come back!! read more

A good to great bbq for a decent price. I like it more than Meat u anywhere and a few other Grapevine area joints. Staff is always friendly, there are plenty places to eat and it's quick. There are a couple keys to ordering however: 1.) Try to go as close to lunch as possible. Everything will be at its freshest. The bakery next door will be open as well if you want to get yourself dessert or a snack for later. 2.) Not always 100% true but often the case, if you get food later in the day the proportions are slightly larger. I'd consider going for the items that are naturally more tender and juicy than drier meats as sometimes you'll get a tough piece. For example, the pork tenderloin during lunch is my favorite. Super juicy and flavorful. In the evening it was dry and needed to be covered in bbq sauce. This goes for most bbq places I'd say though. 3.) I wouldn't get the 3 meat combo because they overall meat averages out to be barely anymore than the 2 meat combo. So instead of getting the same proportion sizes as the 2 meat, it decreases. You're still getting your moneys worth I guess, but if you're ordering it so you can get more overall meat, you'll be disappointed. 4.) The yeast roll is good, but the sides are just that, sides. Nothing too special. Dessert options are huge but they are good. Overall I'd suggest this place for anyone wanting bbq. It's affordable enough to get for an everyday type of lunch/dinner, the staff is quick and polite, and the food is good. Bathrooms are clean and they busers keep the tables clean. read more

Dear Texas Monthly & D Magazine, I don't get it. Sincerely, Me But, seriously. I don't get it. he sweet tea was good. I really like the pecan cobbler. The staff seemed friendly. The place smelled like smoke. It seems like everything was in place to transform a rundown strip mall location into a good, local BBQ place. Everything except the meat. Do they have relatives on staff at these magazines who rank them among the Texas elite? Are they just tipped off as when the reviewers are coming so they put forth more of an effort? Was it just bad luck on my part? I have no idea. The meat was fine. It wasn't awful. It just seemed like something you'd find sitting in a warming tray at a generic American Food Buffet. The brisket was like dry roast beef. The rib were chewy. And the sausage was something from a package that looked like it had just been warmed up in the microwave. Reading other reviews, it would appear I'm not the only one who felt that way. There seems to be theories about going early and perhaps getting the leftovers from the day before. I was there before the lunch crowd arrived--probably at about 11:30. So maybe that is what happens. But that seems pretty excusable. Figure out a way to keep the meat from drying out. Or figure out what you'll use in one day so you can afford to throw out the rest. But don't serve people dry, day old meat and expect them not to walk away disappointed. read more

FINALLY found a great brisket spot in the Dallas/fort worth area. Happened upon this spot in Grapevine, TX on Saturday evening, 20 minutes before their closing time. Don't like to come in before closing time at restaurants but the lobby area was full so figured we would not be the only ones. The atmosphere is very casual, simple and family friendly. It is located in a strip center. The ordering process is like lunch room style where you go through and tell the slicer what you would like. You then pick your sides that are already prepared and displayed. The slicer guy was very friendly and helpful in recommendations. I got the sliced, marbled brisket and spicy links. The meal comes with two sides. Because they were closing the guy offered us whatever sides we wanted , complimentary. I got fries, beans and jalapeño bites as my sides. When we went to pay the guy gave us brownies, complimentary. Biting into the tender, juicy marbled brisket was heaven! Had tried several BBQ places in the area that left a lot to be desired. The sausage was very good too. The beans I got weren't that great, the fries were hand cut and had they been fresh and hot they would have been awesome ( but it was their closing time and they gave us whatever we wanted as far as sides). The jalapeño bites were very very good! Just enough kick without being too hot. The one BBQ sauce was very good. While we were eating the slicer guy came out into the lobby and urged everyone to take their time and not rush just because they were closed. He also offered everyone in the lobby desert. I found this move very thoughtful and nice of them to do. The cup our drinks came in was also a souvenir. All in all, I came for the brisket and it was excellent! We came here last week and felt like morons when we left. Walking distance from my place - where I have lived for over three years - and I just came here for the first time. Maybe it is a blessing to my beltline that I had never walked into this place before. The place immediately made me feel like I was in a small town back in the Hill Country. The butcher greeted us very politely and let us take our time deciding on what to have. I got the three meat plate with brisket (of course), ribs, and jalapeno cheddar sausage. For sides I got turnip greens and some sort of jalapeno tater tots (I have no idea what they are called but DAMN they are good). The marbled brisket was smoked perfectly and was tasty and tender without being greasy. I felt the same about the jalapeno sausage. The ribs were my favorite, though, and I am not even a rib guy. The turnip greens and the tater tot thingies were also a hit. I am a huge fan of how they cook their greens. My girlfriend got the smoked bologna and ribs - and she LOVED, LOVED her bologna. She said it was the best she had ever had. Now, I am not a bologna connoisseur, but I tried hers, and it was very tasty. The BBQ here is just great! The brisket has a nice smoky flavor that mixes well with the homemade bbq sauce. So far I have had the brisket, turkey, ham and pork. The ham and brisket you cannot go wrong with. The pork though does get dry once in a while. Dip it in the bbq sauce and your good to go. The sides are pretty good as well. My favs are the pinto beans and the cabbage. They just have a good combination. Also when your there make sure you get a roll. They are super soft and delicious. You could eat them all day and never tire of them. Service here is quick and easy. Watch out during lunch time, the lines can go out the door. I suggest you get here at 11:30 or about 1. In between those times you might have to wait. If you don't mind waiting its all good. Whenever I come here I know that I'll leave here full and satisfied. I had lunch yesterday and walked in and was welcomed by a friendly gentleman behind the counter. He told me the story of how long they have been around and the vibe matches the age. I had 3 meats, brisket, jalapeño sausage and smoked Cajun Turkey. Also had green beans baked beans. The brisket was good not great. Decent smoke ring but was tender and juicy. Not a ton of flavor from the bark. The turkey was good. Very juicy. The sausage wasn't the greatest. Flavor was lacking and it seemed to be a little tough. Like it had been left in the warmer too long. The sides were both good nothing to remember or forget. For the price, this place is not bad at all. Would go again but I wouldn't say it's Texas Top 50 but a friendly neighborhood BBQ joint that will fill you up on some smoked meats. read more

Loved this place. I haven't been here in awhile finally got to come back, service is great and friendly. As always tea was on point and great not to sweet but sweet enough PERFECT. So this time was the first time I came and the sliced brisket was a bit dried out, the chicken was moist but had no flavor and the bologna was completely dried out, the sides were perfect. This was my go to BBQ place when out this way was a lil disappointed about the meats, but that's ok maybe next time. The deserts are slap yo momma good. So with this I am rating it a 3.5 but on the stars level a 4 cause it doesn't have a .5 so rounding off. Hopefully next time I can give Bartleys a higher score. read more

Long standing BBQ! It is down the street from my house so it is very convenient to me. Is it good Yes! I always have the baked potato either with turkey or pork. They are huge and so filling. Bartley's BBQ is just perfect. I love BBQ, and although I have had the chance to eat at several BBQ joints in our lovely area of cities, in addition to other states, I have found that Bartley's truly rates in the absolute top! The quality of their smoked meats makes them leaders in this growing game of " Who has the best BBQ ?". Opinions are subjective, of course, and I firmly believe that they are at the top of their game, and the majority of the competition could take note, learn, and learn quite well. Good BBQ does not need sauce, but having good sauce is critical to compliment already perfectly smoked meats that stand on their own, and Bartley's accomplishes just that. They have regular, spicy, and sweet, all which are outstanding. The Restaurant itself is located in a shopping center, consistently clean, and I do like the fact it is not blasting loud/obnoxious music overhead, but is a quiet place where you can come, relax from the day's events, and enjoy what they have to offer. I always get the All You Can Eat option, the only thing I ever have purchased since day one, about 10 years ago, and I tell you, it is VERY worth it! My personal faves are the Brisket ( You can ask for either lean or moist....), Jalapeno Sausage, BBQ Pork Tenderloin, and their amazing Ribs. The Brisket is full of flavor, the bark that accompanies adds even more depth, and the Jalapeno Sausage has great snap to it, with just enough heat. I know of no other place that has BBQ Pork Tenderloin, and Bartley's is juicy, lean, and full of that famous smoke flavor. The Ribs?? Oh my word, just perfect. Tender, full of flavor, sweet and savory, and I can never get enough. Deep maroon in color, these ribs truly reign supreme! Bartley's sides are fantastic, simple, and compliment it all supremely! Their prices are extremely generous, and I personally love the fact that they offer their food as " plates " that include sides, and they are not part of this new wave of BBQ establishments where everything is sold by the pound/weight average, while then charging ungodly amounts of money for sides, in addition, thus making the end result your one meal that would have given you two weeks of groceries, with the money spent! LOL! Seriously! Their value and pricing, compared to other BBQ establishments, is much better. Customer Service is friendly, warm, and always consistent, just like the quality of their food. I appreciate them always making me a batch of their fantastic fries if they are out on the side table. Bartley's stands alone in their recipes, their food, and their service. We had planned on ordering from our standard bbq place, however when I called they were closed for the week. I searched reviews for good local bbq and found Bartleys. They ranked lower then some of the chains but we knew from past experience that we are not fans of the chain bbqs. What a lucky day for us, Bartley's is now our favorite! We got sliced brisket, pulled pork, turkey and sausage links. All was delicious and moist. To top that off the customer service was excellent. Fabulous! We were stuck in Dallas because our flight got canceled home and we wanted a hole in the wall BBQ place. This did not disappoint! Holy moly ! I got pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and collard greens, and absolutely loved it. My husband got ribs, brisket, and Mac and cheese. Everything was gone. So good. At my store I do periodic team lunches to celebrate meeting goals or birthdays, etc. Today we had a team lunch and the team member whose turn it was chose BBQ. This is only the second time I have eaten from this location and to be clear, this review is only on ordering to go. I cannot speak to the service in the restaurant or how the food tastes there or how clean it is. Both times calling in the order was easy and we were given a time of 15-20 minutes. This time I tried ordering through Yelp but didn't notice an option to order a side by itself which is what someone wanted so we stuck with phone and pick up. Everyone is nice when placing and picking up the order. The only odd thing is their online menu lists "cup cake" as a dessert. I am one of those curious people that wants to know if someone misspelled cupcake (I used to order Chinese from a place that said We Delivery on their website) or if this was some sort of cake they served in a cup? On the phone they said they didn't have that at all when we tried to order it so that was a little weird. Everyone opted for baked potatoes today. Most of us got the chopped beef which tasted a lot better than it looked. It looked greasy but was very tasty. The potato soft and easy to mix and cut up with a plastic fork. One team member got jalepeno sausage which he must like because he got it last time as well. Another got pulled pork and she's a picky eater so if she says it's good it must be. I appreciate that for the to go order they put the meat on the side as this is the only place I can recall doing this. The meat stayed warm in it's side container which held a lot more than it looked like. The potato was large, the container of meat small yet there was way more meat than was needed, no one ran out or complained there wasn't enough. Most of us got the banana pudding which is pretty good but nothing amazing. I won't dock them for it because I like my desserts life altering and that's not part of a normal yelp rating. The baked potatoes and desserts and sides are all pretty cheap, I was pleased with the portions for the price. The plates seem pretty high but I'm guessing they are larger portions. It's a great option for BBQ and I have no reason not to return but I've also had better at other places near by. It's not bad, it's just normal I suppose. I have no problem eating here again and trying their brisket or the pulled pork myself. I feel they are a solid 3 1/2 stars from the take out perspective but also know that I can't comment on the location and service so to be fair I will round up to 4 stars until I go in person or experience a reason to change the review. read more
