Went here for a birthday dinner and had such an amazing experience. The space is absolutely beautiful, nostalgic and charming while still feeling very upscale. We waited a little for the perfect table, but it was completely worth it. We were seated by the window with a stunning view of the lake. The service was top-notch from start to finish. Everyone was incredibly attentive, welcoming, and kind. The food was outstanding, every dish was incredible. For appetizers, we had the Moules Marinières (mussels) and the Rilletes de Salmon, and both were delicious. For entrées, we ordered the Pan-seared boneless ribeye and roasted chicken which was absolutely phenomenal. Everything was so flavorful! I would definitely come back and would love to try more dishes from the menu. Honestly, this was one of the best birthday dinners we've ever had. To top it all off, they surprised us with a complimentary chocolate mousse cake with a candle, which made the night feel even more special. We've been here for brunch and dinner - while I would say the brunch menu is my favorite of the two, dinner is definitely the more fine dining experience. Our last brunch experience was good - the food was delicious, but the service was just ok. The waitress forgot to put in part of our order and we had to flag down refills. Additionally, the crumbs weren't cleared off between courses as they typically do for dinner - minor thing, but it definitely makes a difference in the experience. Lovely evening, sitting by a window overlooking Lake Michigan at sunset. Meal was good, especially the salad we chose- soft boiled egg over frisée with mushrooms and brown butter dressing. I've been going to Lake Park Bistro for years, and just had to write a review after yet another incredible evening! I always recommend making reservations, and when you do, the staff is great at acknowledging any notes or special occasions in the reservation when you arrive. We had made a 5:30p reservation as we had a show downtown to catch at 730, and they were cognizant during service, but never pushy! Top favorite starters are the Oeuf Mollet salad (the truffle vinaigrette is to die for!), the Steak tartare (they mix it table side with the yolk!) and the steamed mussels (get extra baguette, and dip in the remaining broth!). The winter seasonal mushroom is a MUST of they have it! Baguettes are nice and crusty, and the fresh salted butter is YUMMY! I've done the scallops as a main dish if we go hard on apps, they are always perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Our go to is the Confot Canard (duck)! Always beautifully cooked, and the fruit gives the perfect balanced sweetness. We typically ask to swap out the lentils for a potato of some sort, no problem! Brussel sprouts are a worthy side, and save room for dessert! The creme brulee is always perfection, but don't skip past the 10 year tawny port ($14) and the chocolate mousse if they have it! Highly recommend for a date night, special occasion, or just a dinner night to spend quality time with who you are with over great food. Another incredible meal at Lake Park Bistro! I had the Hangar Steak and Frites for the first time and was so glad I ordered it. The steak was juicy and cooked perfectly (I ordered it Medium with some pink). I got the herb butter on the side and can honestly say I barely used it as the steak did not need anything additional. The frites were nice and crispy. I dipped the frites in a side of garlic aioli, highly recommend!! I enjoyed my meal with a smooth glass of Pinot Noir, which paired well with the steak. I had a window seat and enjoyed watching the snow fall outside. And I love sitting in this room and enjoying the mood- romantic dim lighting with lamps and candles. Lake Park Bistro has always been a beautiful restaurant, enhancing Milwaukee's restaurant scene. I think the food, service, and elegance have become even better. LPB is often thought of as a special occasion dining option; however, because the gestalt pricing is reasonable, when drinks, wine, etc., are taken into consideration, it can be considered a place to go anytime. When the bill came, I thought there was a mistake. I split the check with a friend for four people, and each of us had an appetizer, an entree, three had two glasses of wine each, and I had one cocktail. The bill came to $167.00 before tip. That's reasonable for a meal of this quality. I've been to several restaurants in Milwaukee where the check was infinitely higher for a mediocre experience. Yes, the places were more casual, but why avoid a high-end establishment if the prices are lower? Milwaukee can be odd in that way. The steak with frites was done in the French way, rare and delicious. Escargot was terrific, the puff pastry done perfectly. My salmon rillettes tasted amazing, as did the duck liver paté. Ooh la la! We all had a great time, enjoying the well-trained service. Hey, once in a while, take a step on the wild side, Milwaukee, and have an elegant dinner. You can even wear your baseball cap. My colleagues and I routinely took out-of-town visitors to Lake Park Bistro for lunch before the pandemic because we liked the balance that restaurant struck between quality and price. Partly because it has not been offering lunch on weekdays since the start of the pandemic, I have not gone back to it until recently. Two of us showed up on a slow Sunday evening and found the place still elegantly decorated and offering impeccable service. Items on the Haute Bistro Menu sounded good to us that evening, and we ordered one set of dishes from the fixe menu plus two additional dishes from the A-La-Carte menu. The dishes we chose off the fixe menu were Crispy Confit Pork Belly, Pan-Seared Sea Scallops, and Walnut and Pear Stuffed Quail, plus Tarte Tatin as our dessert. The two additional dishes were Mushroom Soup and Roasted Monkfish Tail. Mushroom Soup (that day's special, which the server highly recommended) was truly decadent, and we both liked it a lot. Crispy Confit Pork Belly had very good flavors but was a bit saltier for our taste. The skin wasn't really crispy as indicated in its name, however. Pan-Seared Sea Scallops were cooked perfectly and had an excellent flavor profile. We found it to be the best dish we had that evening. Walnut and Pear Stuffed Quail was also delicious; the meat of the quail was tender and flavorful. Roasted Monkfish Tail was recommended by the server as "in season" when we were trying to decide whether to order the fish or the quail as our selection for 3rd course in the Haute Bistro set. We ordered the quail for fixe menu set and the monkfish as an extra dish. The description of the monkfish dish sounded very good, but it was not as flavorful as we expected. Perhaps the restaurant had a lot of fish in its fridge and wanted the servers to promote it? Overall, we very much enjoyed all the dishes, perhaps with the exception of Roasted Monkfish Tail. How did 15 years go by? That's how long ago my first review was, which should still be available below. Steadfast traditional highest quality dining at a good price for this excellent quality. My number one choice for special occasions and treating my favorite out of town guests. Very sophisticated place. Two things I don't like. First is the odd cadence and sing song tone used by waitstaff, not just here but at all high end restaurants. They add all sorts of nonsense words, and I just don't like how this happened but it's happened everywhere. I guess when people spend this much money they expect their servers to talk this strange way. I would prefer also if they didn't interrupt my conversation. I also don't like how on special menus, they make the chef come out and talk to us. They clearly don't like it, and it adds nothing to the meal. I can taste, smell, and see their high end performance on my plates, no need to bring them out to make an awkward speech. None of that can take away a star from this stellar establishment. read more

I tried to use the $20 bonus on the Saturday before it expired only to find out they aren't accepted on Saturdays. On the email confirmation it says terms and conditions apply but you have to click a separate link to see the Saturday exception. Why not put it in the email right where users can see it? I spent $600 and they get a terrible review because they wouldn't honor a $20 coupon before it expired two days later? Server told us this is a frequent occurrence. My palate is more mature and I'm older now and have a better appreciation for quality food and drinks. I tried so hard to like this place but last night was the end of our long term relationship. Lived in the Milwaukee area for over 35 years and there are not that many places where you could dine and look out adoringly at Lake Michigan. Harbor House was booked for a Monday night and I had to find something quick to celebrate my aunt's birthday due to lack of planning. I dined at Lake Park off and on. Lake Park restaurant itself and the ground overlooking Lake Michigan are 10/10. Service last night was exceptional, they deserved the tip for sure. We ordered duck, salmon, and chicken. All three of us were disappointed except when the deserts came. Duck was very salty and a little dry. Salmon was not flavorful, top of it was nice and crispy but not tasty. We attended a private event at Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro recently and everything was fabulous. The event started with appetizers and wine, all which were delicious, and then main courses were served. Hubs and I shared our entrees which were roasted chicken and filet mignon. Both were cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The filet melted in our mouths, and the chicken had crisp skin and was very flavorful and juicy. Both were served with sumptuous mashed potatoes. Bartolotto's then served an assortment of desserts, including their creme brulee and macarons. Divine!! All of the staff were really nice and service was impeccable. This would definitely be a favorite restaurant if we lived in Milwaukee. read more

Every time we have been here, it had been excellent and last night was no exception. We both had the set menu. The food, service and ambiance here is top notch. Completely overrated. I've been here before, around 10 years ago. It's not as good as it used to be. First off, they charge $50 to make a reservation. Sure, they apply it to your bill when you don't with them. But that's not the point. The point? Keep reading. We made a $50 reservation months in advance, thinking February 15th would be a normal menu. The restaurant called the day before to confirm our reservation. After we said yes they proceeded to tell us there's a limited Valentine's weekend menu. Complete and utter BS. So this extremely limited menu is $125 per person. There are 6 choices for the appetizer course. My girlfriend and I ordered the same one (scallops) because there weren't two we were interested in. The two scallops were overcooked and the only thing that was tasty was some tiny gnocchi type pasta. There are 7 choices of entrees, one of which is the smallest lobster I've ever seen. And it cost an extra $15. The filet of St Pierre was a piece of fish. Nothing fancy, nothing special. Well cooked, but still just a piece of fish. The potatoes and cauliflower were the tiniest portions I've ever seen. There were 5 choices of dessert. We tried a cherry cake (a grossly inadequate description) and a raspberry pastry tort. Both were OK, although my girlfriend did not like either. My $12 beer was actually HALF a beer. Because the bartender apparently doesn't know how to pour a tap beer. Or they do and I'm just getting screwed out of $6. The $15 fig Manhattan my girlfriend ordered was tasty, but filled only 3/4. Again, either they don't know what they're doing or they're trying to screw their customers over. A cup of decaf was $6. Six bucks for coffee. Was it good? Yes. Was it worth the money? No. Maybe at $6 for two... The service was adequate. I guess that's just how it is now, since the only people that actually provide excellent service are old enough to rent a car. I'd like to describe the ambiance positively, but the building is clearly showing its age. And the entire dining experience was rushed, at least for this type of restaurant. Clearly, management decided to limit the menu so they could crank out a limited choice of food items as fast as they can to encourage high volume. It cheapened the experience, and that's in addition to feeling like we got charged $125 for what I would generously call $80 worth of food. Will I be back? Maybe a long time from now. Unless their full menu looks acceptable, whenever it returns. Or when my girlfriend wants to go back. read more

Sorry in advance for the interminable review. We went to Lake Park Bistro (LPB) this evening for a birthday dinner. We changed reservations due to other responsibilities from Thursday evening to Friday, and also due to the fact that the reservation desk told us there were going to be two large groups on Thursday and we would not be able to be seated by a window. So we changed the reservation to Friday night (tonight). Seating: When we made the reservation, we mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday and requested a table by the window for the lake views. We were given a 6:15 reservation. When we arrived, however, we were not able to be seated by the window but were seated at a middle table. Perhaps we should have waited for one to open up, but we weren't offered the option. Ambiance: The restaurant was very, very busy and very noisy. We are an older couple and like it to be much quieter. However, there were some people at a nearby table that were particularly loud and vocal. Perhaps we should not have come on a Friday evening. Service: Jackie was our server and was very nice, professional and accommodating. Bri was helping her and was also extremely nice. However, service was very, very slow. We had finished our meals and waited with empty plates, We had to flag someone down to request a bill. I ordered coffee and it took 10 minutes to get it. We felt ignored, but I'm sure a great deal of this was due to it being a busy Friday night. The Meal: We each ordered a glass of Cote du Rhone, which was great. My wife had a salmon dinner and I had chicken. Both meals were superb. We both loved dinner and it is what we've always experienced at LPB. Birthday Treat: We were served gluten-free chocolate cake and fruit to share as an accommodation which we appreciated. It was also very delicious. Recap: We've always had great meals at LPB, but we miss having lunch there. It was always peaceful and service was prompt in the distant past. Though we aren't regulars, we do enjoy having special events such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc., or just to stop for a meal when we are close by. We recently brought my entire family for our 50th anniversary and repeated that when a friend from out of town was celebrating as well. Though I may have made some negative comments here, overall I recommend any of the Bartolotta's restaurants, because I think they strive to make them the best. I am thinking they forgot the Sherry and the salt. The onions were soft, but not caramelized. Steak Au Poivre that my son had was better. Service was just o.k. We went here for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! We were greeted and seated right away, and the happy anniversary card from the staff was a lovely touch. Our server was Haley, who was exceptional. She was proactive and easy to talk to - there was a brief kitchen delay at the start of our meal and she was completely on top of it. She kept us informed and even brought us a complimentary soup du jour (which was delicious!). The glasses of champagne as a gift for our anniversary celebration were a lovely touch but timed a bit oddly to come out at the end of our meal. The food was fabulous from start to finish - the goat cheese tart and the beef tenderloin were definitely highlights, as was the fresh bread with butter. I got the cherry clafoutis for dessert and it was truly mouth watering. Beautifully caramelized with a dense texture and served with vanilla gelato - honestly one of my favorite desserts I've ever had! So, why the 4 stars? It's all about the ambiance. On the surface, it's a beautiful restaurant and would be stunning during the day as well. However, I was disappointed that we sat next to a couple who left soon after we arrived and their table was left dirty and not cleared (ice bucket included) for our entire meal. Had the pleasure of coming here last Fall actually and am now getting around to writing my review (face palm). We came in the evening on a crisp fall night, so we didn't get any nice views but it's tucked in a sweet spot near/in Shorewood. We had seen people outside of the restaurant playing croquet?! I wasn't actually too sure. Looked cool though! It was my close friend, Maria's birthday and they had a nice birthday place card on the table for our reservation wishing her a happy birthday. It's definitely a more upscale restaurant and everyone was dressed professionally/elegant. I got away with skinny jeans, paired with boots and a blouse. The menu is designed for you to eat a full course meal with a starter/app, small course, main course and then dessert. I picked the lightly breaded, soft boil egg for my starter (delicious), the asparagus and creamed mushrooms for my small course (so good), roasted duck as my main course (absolutely cooked perfectly), and the crème brûlée as my dessert (divine!). My friend got the scallop appetizer, salmon small course, beef tenderloin main course and chocolate mousse. The food here was absolutely amazing. I would only come here for a special occasion as I'm not rich, but the food was nice and it was a great experience. The place has rich history and was lovely to look at. A big bar when you walk in and an open kitchen are make Lake Park Bistro feel welcoming. Currently, Lake Park Bistro is doing a 4 course pre fixe menu for Saturday dinner which starts at $65. There are plenty of options in each of the courses to keep you at that $65 per person price point but also a few options for an up-charge (ex: some cuts of steak, lobster tail). We sampled a variety of items (including a chestnut soup special!) and everything was fabulous. In traditional French-style, the menu is very rich in flavor. Honestly, I feel like the food at Lake Park Bistro is comparable to Sanford (another upscale MKE establishment) for about 1/2 the cost. We can't wait to be back! read more

Lake Park Bistro is our favorite restaurant in Milwaukee and we were so happy to return. We had dined here twice previously but it had been many years. We saved this for our last of three nights and everything was excellent. My husband and I arrived early and decided to stop at the bar for a glass of wine before dinner. We loved watching the activity in the bustling open kitchen, and felt like we were watching an episode of Top Chef! As we approached the host stand, I recognized the General Manager, Michael Sargent from a posting I had seen on Instagram. I stopped to chat and we were shown to our table which had a great view of the beautiful dining room. Michael stopped by and we asked him about some of his favorite items on the menu. He helped us narrow down our options. We started with Salmon Rillettes and the Fillet of Salmon with a creamy Sorrel sauce from the Haut Bistro menu. Both were incredible! For our entrées, we each chose to order Sole Meunière. Our server Haley was an expert at filleting the Dover Sole and removing the bones. Our entire dinner was perfect on Monday evening, and again on Tuesday, when I had my leftovers at home! For dessert we shared portion of Chocolate Mousse that was just heavenly. Delightful. 4 stars - Steak frites: hanger steak, food sauce, and crispy skinny fries. 3.85 stars from my lil guy Midlights: - Bread: good flavor, but too chewy to get through. 3 stars - Sole: tougher than I thought, issues with the fish noted below, and butter sauce was too liquidy. 3 stars Lowlights: - Bones in the table side prepped fish. If you're going to make this a focus of the menu, you need to do it right. My sister had so many bites with bones she was turned off to the whole meal. - Service: didn't give us a wine menu to start, took a while to take our menu, wine didn't get there in time for our appetizer course, and table was full of finished plates for a long time. - Got an interior table so couldn't enjoy the lake view. Beautiful restaurant overlooking the water! We are so glad we checked this lovely place out. We both tried the soup du jour which was a delicious corn chowder. Also, had the ribeye with fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts and gourmet French cheese board with cranberry-walnut bread slices with honeycomb and fruit preserves. Delightful meal! Our server, Haley was fabulous as well. Can't wait to visit again to try some of their other dishes! read more

Love the prix fixe menus - excellent way to try delectable plates throughout the menu. Even better if you have a friend to coordinate with you! We went to celebrate a birthday and the staff was friendly and patient with our questions and lollygagging. The wine paired well with most of our courses and we would love to come back for the next menu! $65/person for 4 courses with some supplemental charges for some dishes. read more
