I feel like we lucked out because we got a parking spot right nearby but street parking in that area is somewhat difficult, there are paid parking lots available. I was very impressed when I first walked into Cassis! The bar is beautiful and there are large windows everywhere to let the sunlight in and there is a nice view of the water. The staff were very friendly and we sat at the bar for a bit for drinks before we decided to sit at our table. We ordered a variety of small plates to share and large plates as our main. Everything was delicious! We especially loved all of the desserts and my Hamburger was so tasty, the Comte and Dijonaise really made that meal stand out. The food and drinks were amazing. The presentation of the ravioli truly adds to the taste. It was so good. The trout was amazing and a great recommendation from our server Justin. Cassis (which means blackcurrant in French) really surprised me! We had such an enjoyable meal from start to finish. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the space itself is large and trendy. One thing to note is that it can get pretty hot because of the direct sunlight, but the staff told us they are working on installing shades. My favorite part of the meal was actually the cucumber salad - it was complex, refreshing, and so well balanced. We also split the ravioli Dauphine as an appetizer which I would highly recommend. For our entrees we had the trout, steak frites, and hamburger. Out of the three, I would most recommend the trout. The steak frites also came with a very generous portion of béarnaise sauce, and the frites themselves were hot and plentiful. For dessert we had the "millefeuille à la banane" which was delicious. Date of visit: May 4, 2026 We had a lovely meal at Cassis, a classy French spot that I had never heard of but insist that you go check out the next time you're in the Downtown/Third Ward area! From the service to the bread (oh my god, le pain!), everything was wonderful. Many tables overlook the river and anyone hitting the Riverwalk, so you can get dinner and a show if you play your cards right. Now the menu is limited, so some of the more particular palates in your life may struggle and you should plan ahead. Here's what I enjoyed: - The bread. Do not sleep on this bread. Or rather, sleep on it, I imagine it would make a wonderful pillow and it was delicious, especially paired with their salted butter. - Steak frites. I literally never order steak at a restaurant but the way our server waxed poetic on the bavette cut, I decided to go for it and it was divine. The bearnaise sauce was not my jam initially, but it definitely grew on me as I enjoyed the entree. - Millefeuille à la Banane. We are huge fans of Birch so we were very excited to try Cassis, but I hate to say it just didn't hit for several reasons. I will start with some positives - walking up on the restaurant I liked the curtains in the window and th entrance of the restaurant, it had a feeling of exclusivity. They did an impeccable job decorating the space head to toe with Parisian Cafe vibes. I loved the tile flooring, lighting, decor - aesthetically it was done lovely. We were seated in the "lower" area of the restaurant, there was a ton of natural light and it overlooked the river. Had we been sat in either the booths or 4 top tables in the space our experience might've been different, instead we were crammed into a 2 top table placed in the walkway that had a circumference of about 20 inches...it was truly ridiculous trying to fit everything on the table. We had to have our menus in our laps through the first course. It was SO loud, nearly impossible to tune out the conversations around you as they were less than a foot away. When a waiter was helping the table next to us I literally had his butt in my face . Our server was stressed, over-seated, and absent most the night. The cocktail I got, Le Violet, was sub-par. The food was mostly good (except for the celery root salad...), but it had to have been the saltiest meal I've ever eaten. Even the dessert was salty! Bummed with the overall experience and honestly can't say I will be going back. I'm being generous with a 3 star review, I hope they make some improvements, especially with the too tight of seating. read more

Delicious food delivered at reasonable (not bargain) prices. Service was adequate - server's attention was surprisingly sporadic and not friendly for what one esperiences in Milwaukee (although hostess was lovely). The room was beautiful - but watch out: the mid-May sun at 6pm made a death ray striking one of our diners (me! the others felt sorry for me and offered to trade out of pity). (I'll be it gets really unpleasant in June/July.) You've probably seen recommendations to avoid the small round cafe tables along the banco on the lower section (they're pretty tiny - and Cassis serves its baguette with large plates for diners for some non-Parisian reason - so you can crowd yourself out pretty quick). Well, my recommendation is to _also_ ask to be seated out of the sun: the lovely floor-to-ceiling window onto the Riverwalk and patio appears to be untinted, has no curtains and just makes the place a greenhouse. Despite the uninterested server, I liked Cassis enough that I would return - but I would decline seating in range of the death ray. read more

Located in the Historic Third Ward at the base of the 333 Water Building, Cassis is a slice of France in Milwaukee. Owned by the same culinary sensations who brought our city Birch, Cassis serves up French-inspired dishes in a French-like setting. We dined at Cassis during the week and by the time we left the place was hopping. Make a reservation in advance to spare yourself having to wait at all. When we walked in, the first thing we noticed was the incredible aesthetic. From the tiling, wooden bar space, chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows. Even the toilettes were decked out - the wallpaper in the women's toilette was unique. Walking to our table it was impossible to miss the leaning tower of butter and flaky baguettes. To start we ordered the marinated olives which were tasty. The green olives were stuffed with a seeded mixture. We also ordered a carafe of rose that was only $20 (a special that day). For our mains we went with the Ravioli Dauphine and the Burger. The burger was served with a heaping side of frites. We added a garlic aioli dipping sauce too. Everything was tasty. The Ravioli was the only vegetarian main dish - otherwise there are vegetarian-friendly salads also on the menu. We dined inside and due to the threat of rain the patio was closed. If we had dined on the outdoor patio, we would have gotten a front row seat the river and let's be honest, a view of the Milwaukee River is never boring. Will be back to try brunch next! read more

The restaurant is tucked in a corner on the river so the views are impeccable. The terrazzo tile plus WC toilets give it a definite French feel. There are daily specials which we didn't try but they looked great with a seasonal morel tart as one of their offerings. We both had the traditional steak with frites which are cooked in beef tallow so they are extra tasty and crispy. The menu is very traditionally French and is good size but not an extreme account of options. The service was impeccable. I was really excited to try Cassis, and the space itself did not disappoint. The restaurant is sophisticated, beautiful, warm, and offers a stunning view. It was extremely sunny inside during our visit, so that's something to keep in mind depending on the time of day. There are no blinds, so the sun is shining on you the entire time. We got lucky to get a last minute reservation, dining there is very limited and reservations are a must. It's not really the kind of place you can count on for walk-ins, so planning ahead is definitely necessary. The food presentation was beautiful and clearly well thought out, but the portions were very small considering the price point, and the menu is quite limited. To start, we ordered the French bread and butter, which was delicious. The only downside was that the bread was served as a loaf, it would have been much more convenient if it had been sliced beforehand. For entrees, we tried the roasted chicken and the braised beef cheeks. Unfortunately, the chicken was very bland and underwhelming. It came with no sides or vegetables, just a plain piece of chicken with a few radishes on the side. On the other hand, the braised beef cheeks were flavorful and with more side veggies. We also had the passionfruit mousseline for dessert, which was absolutely delicious and a great way to end the meal. Overall, I loved the ambiance and was excited to try Cassis, but I would not return for dinner. Met a friend here for lunch, right when they opened at 11:00. The place filled up fairly quickly, so I was happy she made a reservation. The minute you walk in, you are greeted not only by the hostess, but a beautiful and sophisticated space that is immediately inviting. Light pours in from the large windows facing the river, and every seat in the house is cozy and intimate. A creative mix of tables and booths accommodate a simple lunch with friends or a business lunch with colleagues. The menu is creative with minimal yet high-quality components. Where to even start?!!! Walking into Cassis immediately felt the warm refreshing vibe of the riverside restaurant. Walking past the butter and baguette display was a neat way to start our dining experience, in addition the entry staff were kind and welcoming as we took our seats. Our meal was terrific, each dish had a perfect combination of flavor and craftsmanship while not leaving us feeling light and ready to try more from their menu. We had a fantastic date night experience at Cassis. Our table was within view of the window overlooking the river. While our particular table for two was small like some had mentioned, our serving team did a great job quickly removing plates and glasses that were finished and maximizing space. The service was excellent - very attentive, very helpful, and our water glasses were never empty! Everything we ordered was perfectly timed, too. We had the baguette (sourced from Rocket Baby) with butter and the butter was perfection. We could have ordered so many dishes - everything sounded so good! We just wanted to hit a few highlights this time - the dishes we selected were light on vegetables, and we could have/should had added sides of veggies or a salad, but that was totally on us (we ordered like true Midwesterners lol). We had to try the "Instagram famous" ravioli, so we shared some of that - it's so rich, and the fresh chives really popped. It's perfect to share. For our mains we had the scallops, which were excellent, and the steak frites, also really good and cooked perfectly as ordered. We didn't save room for dessert but we saw several beautiful plates go by. It was really nice to have zero proof cocktail and beer options - I had NA version of the Le Violet cocktail and it was fantastic. Lovely new addition to Milwaukee! My girlfriends and I dined here on a Monday night and damn was it packed. Completely did not expect that but hey, it says a good a thing about this place. The vibes, the ambiance, the thoughtfully curated decor and furniture... all of it was great. I said to my friends it felt like we were on vacation, or dining out of town somewhere. The riverfront location is the icing on the cake. Our server was sweet and took great care of us. Drinks were ordered and delivered in a quick succession. I went for the le violet, which was a gin-elderflower cocktail. Thoroughly enjoyed. Who doesn't love French cuisine? Cue the baguette and butter immediately. The rest of the menu has a nice array of selections. You can go the small lates route to share a handful of items, or stick to the entrees. Collectively, we all *needed* to try to ravioli dish so we got that to share, and otherwise had our own main dishes. I found the roasted chicken to be super tasty. It was drenched in an herb jus of sorts (i.e. drippings of the roasted meat and herbs like thyme and rosemary perhaps?) - a very good dish overall. Though I really wish it was accompanied by a side. Even just a simple vegetable. Luckily, my friends had the burger and steak, which came with frites, so I snagged some of those! The staff was warm and welcoming, and they were especially kind to our toddler - they even have a small box of toys for kids, which immediately made us feel at ease. While the meal and vibes were lovely, there were a few areas where the experience didn't quite hit the "luxury" mark I expected. First, the tables are quite small. For a multi course meal with cocktails and water glasses, it felt like a game of Tetris trying to keep everything on the table. Anddddd the celebration factor, we were celebrating my best friends birthday - and sadly that went largely unacknowledged. When dining at a high-end establishment those "little extras" - a tiny glass of champagne or a small sweet treat on the house - really elevates the experience from a standard dinner to a memorable event. I would recommend Cassis for a stylish date night or fun dinner with a small group of friends. However if you are looking for a "special occasion" destination where you'll be pampered for a big milestone, this might not be my first choice until they lean a bit more into those hospitable finishing touches. Food was very good but there were some critiques. For appetizers, we got a few things and they were all very delicious. The bread and butter was spot on! Steak frites was bland. I think it could have used more salt and pepper but the crispy fries, the perfect cook on the meat and sauce saved the dish. Scallops were very good and cooked perfectly. Service was good. Party of 5 reunion so we chose this spot for our 6 pm dinner to try out for the first and last time. It's a cute restaurant and friendly hosts greeted us. We sat along, what another reviewer called "death ray" and she was right. It was super hot at the back with the windows overlooking the river even with the shades pulled down. The sun was beaming in, but you can't even blame the sun because there was no AC in the restaurant blowing here at all! We felt sticky and sweaty throughout our time there. Very unenjoyable. The server was very unfriendly, no smiles, no introduction at first. Just came to pour water and asked if we were still waiting for more guests since there were only two of us sitting. When the rest of the party arrived, he finally came again to pour water and quietly introduced himself. I did not get his name, but let's just say he was not a good server at all; very disappointing because even after taking our orders and bringing our food out, he never came back to replenish our waters or ask us if we needed anything else. We ordered 3 steak frites, a L'hamburger, and trout along with asparagus and marinated kale along with some spirits. Overall food was just "ok" for the prices. I got here early to meet a friend for dinner and it was super easy to get a seat at the bar. I was really impressed with the cocktail du jour and they have a pretty solid happy hour menu. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL and feels exactly like a French bistro with a modern twist. The seating is super cozy. Our waitress was also excellent and very attentive. We got the bread & butter and the fromage which were great starters. I love that there is a bread station in the middle of the dining room with a mountain of butter! For the main course, I had the Ravioli Dauphine which was melt in my mouth delicious and the chives are the perfect balance of freshness. My friend had the beef cheek which was super rich but delicious, though the mustard/horseradish toppings didn't seem to go with the dish. We split the Tarte Tropézienne for dessert and it was lovely and not too sweet. What a beautiful location and French vibe in Milwaukees third ward! Definitely a fun place for ours girlfriends get together. The passion fruit martinis are amazing! This is going to be amazing in summer as I heard there will be outdoor seating along the riverfront. Service was super friendly and helpful as I'm not a big French connoisseur. After all of the positive reviews of the ravioli sheet, I decided to go with that. Being of Sicilian descent, it wasn't very filling for me as the pillows were lightly stuffed with French cream. The baguette bread is actually a menu item for four dollars! It is three small pieces of bread. And the butter has salt on top. We also decided to share a dessert since it was $19. I was SO excited to try this spot! My fiancé and I are honeymooning in Cassis later this year, so it made for a perfect date leading up to Valentine's Day. We made the reservation well in advance as it is a new location and quite popular. The spot is unbeatable, right on the river and in the Third Ward. They couldn't have created anything more perfect for the location and is exactly what MKE needs. The vibes of the place are immaculate. Dim lighting, a nice layout, and intentional design choices right down to the wallpaper in the bathrooms. Our waitress guided us through the menu, some favorites, and paced the meal appropriately. The staff made sure to remove dirty plates promptly. Okay now onto the food. We of course needed to start with the baguette and butter and croque monsieur. The baguette was made by a local bakery and quite delicious. I also really enjoyed the croque monsieur. The ravioli was a must for dinner. The flavors were light and refreshing. That being said, it was a bit on the lighter side, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we did have apps, but just a good note to not expect a typical heavy pasta dish. I could tell the place was still working out some kinks in the service delivery, and think some of the dishes play on the hype of social media, but the flavors did back all of that up. I would say everyone should experience this restaurant. It's great for a nice occasion every once in a while. I also loved the take home postcards and matchbooks. Wow! Cassis is truly a standout and exactly what Milwaukee has been needing. The entire experience was exceptional, and the space itself is stunning, perfectly situated along the Milwaukee River at the corner of Water Street and St. Paul in the Third Ward. We started with the soup of the day, a bread basket (baguette with salted butter), and a bottle of white wine, and were impressed right from the start. For our entrées, we had the ravioli and the steak frites. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and beautifully prepared. Stopped in for a quick bite and was very pleased. Sat at the bar which gave me a good view of the dining room and the Milwaukee River. Cassis is decorated beautifully and oozes a Parisian vibe. Love the subway tiles that lined the wall and the arches to break up the space. Word of caution-with all these hard surfaces, the room can get quite loud. I wasn't too hungry so opted for the foie gras pate with a sauvignon blanc. The pate is served with two slices of beautifully toasted and butter bread and was massive. Some may find that an additional slice of bread may be needed. The pate is beautifully constructed and has an amazing flavor and texture-smooth, rich, decadent. I am looking forward to exploring more of the menu. One nit picky item-the bartender wasn't aware of the details of one of the specials when asked. I would expect a restaurant with this pedigree would ensure all staff is aware and can explain the specials. Again, a small item. Overall, a great bite at a beautiful restaurant. I'm no chef but I love food bearnaise sauce is egg base with a little use of lemon with other components. But I was told this cause was supposed to be made this way made for Wisconsin palate. And Root Vegetables were served cold My desert Millefeuille à la Banane - it was good but I wish I ordered coffee with it. My take people need to experience this place. We are living downtown for the summer and have eaten at countless local restaurants. We can say HANDS DOWN this the best dining experience we have had. The service is friendly and professional. Cassis is only two weeks in to its existence at this point, but I'm not grading on a curve here: Cassis is super legit, and I'm a total snob for French fare. First of all, the atmosphere is stunning. And it's big, but doesn't feel big. It's open and spacious but still cozy and intimate by way of expert design and decor. The milky glass on the pendant lights casts a pillowy-soft light over the whole dining room, accented by layers of light from bar shelves and wall panels. Huge tiled arches thoughtfully partition different areas of what might've otherwise been an acoustical nightmare. Nothing was too loud, too bright, too cold... the vibe was immaculate. I do think the cocktails could use some work, so I would honestly be at a 4.5 just for that, but they're not bad. My favorite was the Rendez-Vous, which basically tasted like a root beer sazerac. My best advice would be to stick to their fantastic wine list; I love a good French Chardonnay, and theirs is no exception. We sat at the bar for dinner because we didn't want to wait for our late table reservation. The bar is spacious and well staffed; we never found ourselves waiting long for anything we needed. The bartenders are well-versed in the food menu, and did a great job describing foods we asked about. During our salad course, a wine glass was knocked over and we had to forfeit the last few bites of salad in case there might've been glass in the bowl, but the staff was more than gracious and apologetic, and bought us a round of drinks even though we said that was not necessary. Alright, food time: The whole menu is exactly what I expected, but never predictable: classic French bistro flavors and technique with an impressive and unorthodox Birch twist on everything, pushing the envelope and exercising perfect restraint when needed. Nothing is oversold with a flowery description on the menu, and everything we ate was expertly executed. First, the tartare de boeuf was honestly the best steak tartare I have ever had, and I've had many. Classic French flavor and totally unexpected preparation: 1/8" perfect cubes of beef (and I don't have a clue how they cut them so precisely); Not served in a little cylinder, but placed on an amazing crusty sourdough toast like an open-faced sandwich of pure culinary bliss. Don't pass this one up. We had the celery root salad and I don't even really know how to describe it, but it was beautiful and made me feel like I was walking barefoot through a meadow with lush grass tickling my toes in the sunset, cooled by a gentle breeze. Escargot is another one of my favorite dishes and a great litmus test - this one was served in a bowl, not the classic crock, and surrounded by buttery white beans in a rich garlic and herb butter. The only thing I would've liked would be a few slices of baguette to soak up some of the leftover butter. Fried oyster tartes - holy balls. Just order these, they're insane. Three to an order, and you might just want your own order. They're freaking delicious. We shared the pork sausage entree and a side of frites, but we ended up having the pork wrapped while I shamelessly ate a big-ass bowl of fries, which were shoestring-thin, crisp, and perfectly salted. I love mustard, but the dijonnaise was just ok for me- if I could, I'd stop by Le Reve on my way down to bring my own aioli, because the fries at Cassis are better. The pork sausage was very good the next day as leftovers, but I will caution you, you will repel anyone you burp around for a few hours after you eat it. Don't say I didn't warn you. All in all, I'm highly impressed for a 2-week-old restaurant, and I can't wait to come back! read more

- delicious food, good service, good ambiance - reservation made and recommended, busy on a saturday night! - would love to revisit soon I've been following the opening for a while and made a reservation as soon as I was able! I don't think I have ever acknowledged it, but French cuisine is so tasty, and Cassis provided a delicious and unique experience with their menu items! The service and interior were also wonderful, so I'm looking forward to the next visit. Everything we ordered we had shared. Our first plate was the Fried Oyster Tartes. These lil crubbies were a great start to the night! The tartes were crisp and the oysters had been fried well to maintain their soft inside while having an outer crunch that went well with the shell to have an exponential crunch effect. The creamed leaks added some freshness to the hors d'oevres and I like how there was a bit on the plate so the tartes wouldn't move. Next, we had gotten the Chilled Avocado. This was a great piece to follow as it was a lighter seafood treat after the oysters. I absolutely love a light and refreshing dish, and this may have been my favorite of the night! The shrimp was cooked well and tasted very fresh, and I appreciated the tails were removed. The avocado added a nice creaminess, but the whole piece also added additional texture so that it was not just mush. The citrus (pomelo(?)) added sweetness to the dish that added freshness and was more sweet than sour, but the tart sauce was a great way to incorporate the sour citrusy component that I was expecting from the fruit. The small but mighty addition was the dill on top, always a loved herb that makes the world go round. Everything all together was truly so so good and when I come back, this is something I will definitely be getting! I think something that could have also been good would be maybe fanning out the avocado instead of just being a whole quarter, just a thought Our third plate was the Hamachi Crudo. The Oyster was hot, the Shrimp was cold, but this Hamachi was kind of like our baby bear and in the middle of the two! I expected a chilled and refreshing crudo, but this was quite a surprise when it was served slightly cool with oil and toasted hazelnuts. The whirl was the hazelnuts and how I never thought of such a pairing! The woody flavor of the nut and the toasted flavor was quite contrasting from the softness of the fish, but was overall very delicious. It was served with creme fraiche to add some lightness to each bite and just an amazing and interesting bite. For our final plate, we got the Ravioli Dauphine, as seen everywhere. I was honestly hesitant because of my immature tastebuds needing meat in every meal, but the flavor of the cheese ravioli was amazing on its own! Of course the meal was fun and unique in its plating, but the filling of each ravioli was flavorful and creamy and was bursting like a gusher. It was just cheese, but it tasted potatoey, and so much like the Trader Joe's Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips (with as much respect as could be given when compared to a chip). This was a great dish to end our savories. For dessert, we had shared the Profiterole Paris Brest for 2. I think visually it looked manageable for 1, but it was definitely a 2-person task! The pastry was structured and light so each scoop had the right amount in it, but the bottom was crisp, adding another fun layer to the also crunchy top. The praline ice cream was soft and cool with each scoop perfectly fitting each nurple of the pastry. A dessert without salt is nothing, so the slight saltiness of the ice cream was delicious with the hot fudge and pastry and still enjoyable on its own. The hot fudge was very rich and almost like a lava cake in texture and flavor, but not overpowering. This dessert was both rich and light, offering sweet and salty flavors that had me feeling full and happy! This was such a delicious visit for us and such a great addition to the city! Service was kind and friendly and I appreciated their knowledge of the menu and specials. With all this, I took a point off because of how "new" everything felt and like they are still finding their footing. The food was fast once our order was put in, but waiting to order took a bit of time. It was a busy night and I could tell our server was running around all night, but it got to a point of waiting to request small things. Additionally, they had to revisit a few times to confirm a few requests. From everyone in general, I think a bit of improvement on communication is also in order. I felt servers were bumping into each other frequently and a few times into me without acknowledgement. The hostess was quiet and we just kind of assumed to follow them, also would have thought a warning about the step down would have been good, especially for a more unaware/older party. All in all, this was a great food experience that I will definitely return to and I am looking forward to where they go from here! read more

We got the food gras eclairs, baguette and butter, the ravioli dauphine, the carrots, and the steak frites. Didn't take any pictures because the food was too good to let sit for even a second. Our server, James (I think) was AMAZING, he was on top of everything, our food was coursed perfectly, our water was never low, and we ordered a bottle for the table and he filled our glasses whenever they started getting low. The restraint itself had such a cute atmosphere. The decor was very lovely. 12/10 experience. read more

I have been to Cassis twice for dinner and once for lunch. The vibes are 10/10 down to the amazing WC wallpaper. Standouts for food were the ravioli, steak frites and opera cake. For lunch the classic European Jambon Burre was so simple and delicious. All the servers have been excellent. They are definitely leveling up the Milwaukee dining scene. read more
