It's a really pretty spot and the ambiance is amazing. We had a lovely table outside. The food was pretty but not very good. Not a lot of flavor. The drinks were sweet and well poured. I wish they used more seasoning.

We stopped by several other places nearby to grab different cocktails/ apps and, overall, this was our favorite. It had a lot of options and everything we had was good. The server we had was really friendly but also easily distracted by other tasks (one of our items never came to the table and we were also waiting a while after our check to get our takeout bag and validation). Food was tasty! We ordered (ranked by table favs): 1-Risotto with mushrooms (not on menu but they added some truffle oil) 2- Patatas Bravas 3- Picaña steak (we loved the crispy truffled home fries that came with this) 4-Chipirones en salsa verde (this meal wasnt bad. It was very very light and buttery, and I just go toward bolder flavors Cocktails we had were good as well

Really tasty food! The service was maybe a little slow but I had plenty of time so I was ok to have things come out at a bit more leisurely pace. The interior is very pretty with big ceilings and lots of natural light.

I asked for an avocado toast. I received something with bacon and turkey ( I took it to go so I didn't discover until later), no avocados anywhere. The lettuce in my "toast" was brown. It was awful.

I was disappointed with the paella. I'd read mixed reviews on it, but still had hopes it was good. Unfortunately, my experience matched the negative reviews. It didn't taste like paella at all. It had no flavor. It was something I have done way better at home. I don't recommend it. Also, the octopus was different this time. It was chopped into small bits and over a bed of potato salad. Not Pulpo a la Gallega like the menu states. The picanha steak was excellent, though.

Place very nice atmosphere including live musician. Food was excellent regarding flavors, but food took way too long to be serve. Some of our partie of 5 were serve within reasonable time but two who ordered Paella, were advised it takes an hour, in eality took over 1. 5 hrs even after complaining to the Manager, who tried to explain and accommodate as much he was able. Extra appetizers or drinks is not what lwas lookin for, but our main course meal. Overall timing was not acceptable. Thank you to both, Manager Abimale and John our waiter, we'll go again hopping to have a wonderful dinner. Oh. by the way, they servevte Best "Croquetas de Jamon" ever tried.

The ambiance, the food, the drinks, and the service are all excellent at Barullo Taberna Espanola! This is a standard tapas restuarant, but with additional apps and entrees to select as well. My friend and I came here TWICE during our 5-day adventure in Puerto Rico last week. What brought us back for seconds??? It was the papaya salad of all things! That salad has completely raised the bar in my book for any salad I eat going forward for the rest of my life. It's just that good. It's the new baseline, and let me tell you, the baselne is HIGH! This salad has mixed greens, a well-prepared prociutto or something similar, red onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, and the star of the show, carmelized papaya! It's a showstopper! The second time we came, we each ordered it with shrimp, which was an excellent choice. Aside from that, we had the manchego cheese plate, garlic butter shrimp, and the meatballs. Everything was good! I highly recommend Barullo and look forward to returning the next time I'm in San Juan!

This was a lovely night out. I visited with a group of about 13 people, and we had an absolute blast. We decided to order a variety of tapas and cocktails to share, and it turned out to be the perfect way to enjoy this restaurant. Every single appetizer we tried was fantastic--so much so that I completely forgot to take pictures of the food! We sampled nearly every appetizer on the menu, and not a single one disappointed. The cocktails and beers were equally impressive, making the evening all the more delightful. The attentive staff ensured we had everything we needed, and their service added to the positive experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful and spacious, with a prime location that makes it easy to visit. I'm already looking forward to my next trip back--this place is a must-try for anyone looking for amazing tapas and a great atmosphere!

Excellent food and ambience. Our server Christoper was amazing. Food came out quickly! Don't hesitate to try this place. We would definitely come back.

Great ambiance and location! Located in a lovely fun spot especially during the holidays. I love the tapas style dinner and tried multiple dishes including the pizzetas and patatas bravas. My favorite thing was the Serrano and manchego pizzeta- perfect amount of garlic, cheese, and sweet peppers on a thin crust. The vegetarian paella took a good amount of time and wasn't super spicy but was presented beautifully and the staff were kind enough to give us a side of hot sauce. I appreciate the vegetarian option!!

On our most recent vacation, we finally had the chance to experience it for ourselves, and it did not disappoint. The moment you walk in, it feels like you have stepped back in time. The old school dining room is simple and no frills, with basic tables and chairs lined throughout the space, but that is exactly what gives the place so much character and authenticity. It feels like a true piece of old Puerto Rico. And then there is the food. Absolutely delicious, authentic, traditional Puerto Rican cooking. Our family shared the Bistec Encebollado, Carne Guisada, Chuletas Fritas, tostones, white rice and beans, and arroz con gandules. We started with Alcapurrias and Pastelillos de Carne, and everything was packed with flavor. The portions may be a little smaller than what some people are used to, but the prices are very reasonable, which makes it easy to order several dishes and share everything family style. For me, this was more than just a meal. It was finally getting to experience a place I had heard about for most of my life, surrounded by family and enjoying the kind of traditional Puerto Rican food I was hoping for. AMAZING! Definitely a must visit when you are in Viejo San Juan.

Wish we had eaten here at the beginning of our trip, so we could have gone a couple more times. The service was amazing, a lady came by with a couple different little plates with different food, so we can try, i've never eaten somewhere, where they did that. I didnt see if she was walking around doing this, or she just did it for us. Everything was amazing and it was a hard choice to narrow down and decide what to order. I decided on the carne guisada, which is basically beef stew it came with rice and beans, chefs kiss!!! AMAZING flavor, the meat was so tender. Everything else everyone ordered was so good, hands down the best food we ate on our whole vacation, and we ate great food! The restaurant felt like you were eating at your tias house, beautiful decor, service was amazing it felt like home. As we walked out I thanked the lady that brought us the food, she stopped me and gave me the biggest hug as if she had known me a lifetime.

The good thing first- the line goes through fairly quickly considering how busy they were the day I was there, Sunday July 19, 2026, and parking was plentiful. Service was fine, cleanliness was good. The bad. Way overpriced for this region. There are plenty of bakeries in Puerto Rico offering the same things at half the price. The worst. The food quality sucked. Jugo de China Natural usually means squeezed to order. It was squeezed ahead of time and served with ice without being asked. Fresh squeezed orange juice is best served room temp. A good one will still be a little foamy on the top with very low acidity Ham and Cheese on Mayorca Bread- a staple of PR breakfast. Traditionally served pressed with a little powdered sugar on top that caramelizes a little because of the pressing. This one had a ton of floury tasting powdered sugar on the top and bottom of the top and inside the top and bottom of the bread, not normal at all. And for whatever reason, mine was served with the insides of the bread out side but I saw others that weren't served that way. So strange. And the ham was oddly pale. Also, no knives or forks to be found, so the extra sugar was extra confusing Quesitos- I ordered 4 to take out. I should not have. They went straight to the trash. The dough was severely under baked and soggy yet the filling was dry and crumbly without barely any sugar on top to offset the cream cheese. Arroz con Dulce- overly sweet and watery. Also went straight to the trash. Should be a little thicker from the starch of the rice combining with the sweet milk as it cooks. It tasted like they cooked the rice separately and then added cinnamon, evaporated milk and a ton of sugar without heating it. Not even a hint of vanilla to be found. For $44 dollars before tip. It was straight disrespectful to tourists and locals alike. I hope they improve because there is nothing worst than a popular spot resting on the laurels of a good location PS- The Habichuelas Escabeche were good.

Interior seating is very limited so expect to be seated outside. The patio is very nice, but there is little to no breeze so it gets very hot. My parents went earlier in the year when temperatures were lower than they are this summer and they experienced the same. My suggestion is wear light breathable clothing: shorts, skirts, open toed footwear. Maybe bring a personal fan. Overall, a must foodie destination.
