Went here for my birthday dinner with my wife's family, and it was awesome. Weird but charming, the family who runs it were so nice, and the food was delicious. My sister in-law is vegan, so finding places with good options for her is hard, but Base Camp has a tom of great options for her, and she was probably the happiest of all of us. I understand where some of the negative reviews are coming from, but you just need to be patient here and make sure you understand what your getting and you'll have a great meal. read more

Was in the NH/VT region and stopped her overnight considering its a young college town. Was one of the coldest days of winter and Nepali soup and momos (dumplings) seemed very appeasing. Certainly exceeded expectations, the soup and momos were flavorful great. My only complain is that the entree took really long to arrive. Seems they make all the tarkari fresh and so it takes about half hour, given that the place is packed on a weekend. Service is attentive and very polite and friendly. One of the co-owner himself was attending to us ! Definite stop if you are around or if you are in a mood for homely food, dumplings or authentic Nepali (almost India kinda curries) read more

Food had great flavor - I got the lamb tarkari and the gundruk soup. On the heat scale I chose 7 for the lamb and 6 for the soup - both were the perfect heat. Ordered a side of pickles - funky spice I couldn't put my finger on but not a fan. Main dishes were on point at least. Only reason for the 4 stars is the priciness and the pickles, a bit expensive. The wild boar ribs were so tender. They fell right off the bone and were so delicious! The waiter went out of his way to make sure that my stir fry of vegetables had none that I was allergic to. The atmosphere was unique yet comfortable. You feel like you are truly in another world.... I'm very impressed with The Base Camp! I highly recommend this restaurant... A friend raved about this place a month or so ago, I have yet to thank him! Wow, what an amazing find! I felt like I should have been dining in one of the "big cities" around the US and not in tiny Hanover, NH. The flavors were bold but perfectly balanced, the food presented simply and the service was impeccable. Our two children (aged 3 and 5) really loved the shrimp noodles and lamb and mushroom mo:mo:! On our way back from VT to MA, we usually stop in West Leb but decided to stray a bit from the beaten track. We found this restaurant on Yelp and it was fabulous. The Momos were terrific. We each had a plate of them and between us had goat, wild boar and spinach and saag. For my dinner I had the Basil Chicken which was delicious. I took home half of it since after the Momos I was pretty full. The spices in the Basil Chicken were so different and wonderful. My husband had a spicy chicken dish served with a puffed rice to tone down the spice. It was also delicious. We will be back on our way either north or south read more

Vegan/Vegetarian friendly. A low key Himalayan ambience, with prayer flags, Buddha figurines- which is quite refreshing. I love their Vegetable Momos, Mushroom Tarkari. The Eggplant Basil Paneer is a hit with my family .The staff is very personable and answer all questions that one may have. The food is delicious but you should inquire about the spice levels (they have a scale from 1-10, 10 being the hottest). I got a 7, which was perfect for my liking. This was a decent place. The prices a bit high for what we had. Because we split every thing 2 of us got out of there for $50. We got the veggie Mo mos and Chicken Mo mos. I did like that we could get some of each on the appetizer. The Mo mos didn't have any distinction. Couldn't tell by flavor which was which. The herbed bread was kind of like a focaccia. Not really very familiar with the cuisine so can't speak to authenticity. We split the plantain Tarakia. It was good but didn't blow me over. We did have dessert Chia seeds soaked in sweet almond milk and saffron- it was good but not a wow... Can't say I could pick out the saffron flavor. read more

First time having Nepalese food and wow, we came to the right place. The wild boar ribs was the highlight of the night. So tender and juicy they literally fall off the bone. Momo's were a great appetizer to start with. And my wife had the chicken chillie which she said was seasoned to perfection with the right amount of heat added. This family-owned restaurant is wonderful. We have gone in a few times and the owner always remembers us. All of the serves are so genuine and nice and very excited to talk to you about their food. The food itself is delicious, very interesting tastes all perfectly balanced. I recommend the spinach and paneer momos as an appetizer. The soup is also very good and all of the curries and main dishes are wonderful. Highly recommended for food and good, friendly service. I had a not-tasty meal at Base Camp recently. I'm a real foodie so I know good from bad, and this wasn't good. Buffalo dumplings had a very off taste and goat chili was tough (and I've had plenty of game meat and goat). Jackfruit curry was meh. Very expensive for what you get. It's hard to believe that others think this is good food. Service was fine but will not be going back. Disappointed. read more

Oh wow, so good. These are the same people that ran the great Cafe Momo in Manchester for years but this is a much better space. We had 4 different kinds of Momo, lentil soup, goat curry and a dish mild of noodles with chicken for the kids. Everything was seriously tasty, spiced just right and hearty without being heavy. We've had dinner here twice now and have loved everything! The service is good and the owners are friendly. Delicious curry, chili and noodle dishes! Also tried their chicken mo mo (I think that is right) dumplings and they are delicate and flavorful. You can order most things on a scale of spice from 1-10. I usually stick with 4/5 which is plenty hot for me. The hottest level includes habanero peppers! The food is fresh and portions are large but it is a bit pricey. read more

My hubby and I were super excited to try Base Camp Café and were glad we did. The food was delicious: We shared the lambo MoMos and sweet potato Chhoila appetizers. The Momos were delicious but we both agreed we could skip the sweet potato Chhoila appetizer next time. We also thoroughly enjoyed our entrees-he had the chicken chili and I enjoyed the wild boar ribs. The food was fresh, flavorful, and spicy. We were very happy with the food. It was a bit pricey but delicious. However, the meal and service were oddly paced. Our appetizers came out within minutes and then nothing...for over half an hour. After about half an hour, wait staff came to deliver our main entrees, clear our appetizer plates, and give us more water. That aspect of the meal seemed strange to me. Nevertheless, we still plan on coming back. My hubby said it was his new favorite restaurant in Hanover. Maybe if our service drastically improves, I'll update my review. read more

I went here with a party of six, and most of them seemed to enjoy it, but I was less than thrilled. I asked the manager if the lamb was tender or tough - he said tender, and I foolishly believed him. I ordered Lamb Tass with a #6 level of spicyness, later wishing I had maybe gotten #4. The pieces of lamb were cut in rather small pieces - much as a Chinese restaurant might cut meat, but a bit larger. Due to this, there is no meat in the middle to retain moisture and it gets dried out and tough - I've had much better lamb in a Trader Joe's frozen Lamb Vindaloo. I should have sent it back, but inexplicably was in an "accepting my fate" sort of mood. I also didn't want to cause my companions to wait while an alternate dish was prepared for me. I had ordered a beer with the meal, and was told it was a pint. However, another fellow's came out with the app's, and it was in a Pilsner glass that looked to be about 12 ounces, so I cancelled. Two guys got boar dishes and appeared to enjoy them. I had to grab the water pitcher from the bar and fill our glasses, as they weren't very attentive. I found myself wishing I had gone to Tuckerbox in WRJ on my own, instead of having a bad meal with a group. read more

I have had dinner and lunch at this new eatery in Hanover. I am going back next Tues for dinner again. I really liked the food...taste and quality of ingredients, as well as that they cook to order. That is a plus UNLESS you are attending a concert, play, or movie at the College and was hoping to have time for dessert, as well an appetizer and main course. Even getting there at 5:15 it was tight to get across the street to the 7pm concert- I had to forgo trying dessert. I did have the Chia pudding another time and really liked it, though I could have handled it a tad less sweet. Good Chi tea, but again, just an itsy bitsy tad too sweeter than optimal for me, but I would order again. I have had 2 of the soups and loved both of them...the spicy red one and the lentil. (I can't remember the name of the spicy red one- it is the 1st listed under soups). The Moo Moo that I chose was spinach paneer. I would like to get Moo Moos again, though I would rather have fewer dumplings on the plate with each having more filling in them. That way, same amount of filling, but with less starch. The spicing is fantastic, so flavorful. I did not want a burning tongue to overpower flavor so I started with a 6 for heat. The next visit I went for an 8. I think that is what I would stay with. Friend asked for 10 and I tried it. Still did have flavor but, for me, if I have really burning taste buds it diminishes the pleasure. I have had better goat in Mpls--it was more tender, but I did like the flavor of the curry a lot. Such friendly owners who really have a high standard for what they serve. There are many things I will try in the coming months. How great it is to have a yummy new ethic restaurant that is also of such good quality. read more
