Love the fried chicken at Sawtooth. Love how cool and understated the vibe is here. Love the family atmosphere. The fried chicken meal here is awesome. The coating is crispy and crunchy. Just right. You can also order 12 piece meals family-style. The mac and cheese and sweet potato wedges were delicious. And i loved the biscuits! The cornbread is made in skillets with honey butter, btw, and yes, all the thumbs up here. This is a refined Southern approach. This is a rare restaurant in the whole area where one can dine on the later side. And there is a separate space for entertainment contained within it. It was open mic comedy the evening i was there. I didn't realize you can get Fried Chicken sammies, as well, here. The Hattie B. Damned is looking very good to try. It has fried chicken, Nashville-style hot sauce, pickles and white bread. First thing, we knew nothing about this place and choose it off of the Yelp reviews. We arrived at about 6:30 on a Thursday evening and the place was empty except the people sitting at the bar, maybe that should have been our first clue. We waited at the hostess stand for a minute or two before anyone even approached us. We were seated and we placed our drink order. I ordered a drink off the menu and the waitress says "let me see if the bartender knows how to make it" , another red flag. She comes back and says he can. The drink was mid at best, no where in the description is soda/sprite but there was a carbonation to it. I ordered the chicken & waffles and my husband ordered the chicken sliders after they told him they didn't have any fried chicken (and it's supposed to be a fried chicken place). We also ordered wings as an appetizer which came out the same time as our meals. The meals were AWFUL. In my own home I won't eat reheated chicken because of taste and texture, this chicken I was served clearly reheated. I could barely cut through it, it wasn't hot and tasted like it had been cooked previously and reheated to put on this dish. The waffle looked burned and it was beyond dry. I could barely choke it down. My husband's sliders had a cut up chicken finger and were cold. The wings were the best part of the meal, or I should say only edible part of the meal. When the waitress came over to ask how it was we were honest and told her the meals were awful. She offered to bring us something else, we declined and paid our bill and left. Chicken comes in mild, hot, or Nashville hot. We had mild which was basically no heat at all. Batter very crispy, not greasy but lacked a robust flavor. Tasted more basic and could be improved with salt and pepper. Inside of breast was slightly cold which leaves me to believe they precooked then warmed up. Mac and cheese side as well as Brussels sprouts and bacon were excellent. Dessert was 4 donut hole beignets. Slightly under cooked. Came w a nice coffee flavored sauce. I went to Sawtooth Kitchen on the last weekend in May 2025 when I was in Hanover visiting some friends. The atmosphere was wonderfully cozy and we got a table pretty easily. The staff gave us exceptional service and most importantly, the food was exquisite. I highly recommend the Fried Pickles for an appetizer and the Cubano sandwich; both delicious and reasonably priced. They also have a solid selection of beers on tap for all the brew heads out there. You can really tell the owners and the manager put a lot of thought and care into making this joint a quality space to eat and hang out. We went to Sawtooth Kitchen tonight for the first time- a party of 7. We ordered appetizers- all mediocre. It was song writer night. Music was very loud. Starting with appetizers, the brussel sprouts were the best of the bunch. The chicken meatballs were cold and flavorless. We ordered fried pickles and found pearl onions and other unknown veggies that were not good. The poutine- gravy and cheese smothered potato wedges were not a hit with my friends. On to the main entree. The fried chicken was not done-bloody. The waiter took it away and came back about 25 minutes later with another piece of over cooked chicken. I ordered the "poached and pulled salmon" with orzo and broccoli rabe. It was cold and had a vinegar taste. The orzo was sticky and looked like it was made yesterday. I couldn't eat it. My husband ordered the corn chowder as an appetizer. It was strange and oily with little or no corn flavor and not hot. He also ordered the chicken pot pie for entree. It was cold, had brown meat (not a fan), and semi frozen vegetables. It came with a huge dry puff pantry sitting on top of it. Two of other friends ordered the "red hot chicken sandwich." These two guys love hot foods and both said their mouths were on fire and they couldn't taste anything else for the duration of the meal or evening for that matter. Way too hot. I could go on more but feel Iike I have given enough bad feedback. I am not usually a complainer but the meal was over $400 for 7 people (yes we did drink alcohol) but only because we couldn't stomach the food. I hope the kitchen improves. This is a hidden GEM! The setting is modern, staff is friendly & hard working, and the food is delicious! We have become regulars because visiting this place leaves a smile in my family. We love their wings, salmon, and chicken waffles. I have never tried chicken waffles before and always thought it sounded like it really doesn't go together. My bartender insisted that it was a favorite of many, and that we should try it. Oh well! It was love at first sight! It tasted better that what it looks! Neat place but food needs improvement. My cup of sweet potato ginger soup was excellent but that was the only dish of excellent. My sawtooth wedge salad had approximately 5 Bibb lettuce leaves. The 'crispy onions' were no where to be seen, & the bacon was burnt beyond recognition. My sons 1/2 rack of ribs was covered w 1/2" of sauce. Although the meat fell off the ribs, the sauce was so tangy w sweetness-& so much sauce! My husband had short ribs which he said were OK. Traveling through NH, we came across Sawtooth Kitchen on a search and decided the menu looked a bit different then the standard bar offerings in the area. Very cool the place had a live band and was downstairs. We were seated promptly in a very busy dining room. We both ordered Guinness and it was properly poured and had a great taste which means their lines were clean and setup properly. We ordered the cornbread casserole and crispy pork belly for an app. The cornbread left alot to be desired. Portion was small, and did not seem like cornbread, more like a cake. It had chunks of bacon and what they called apple slaw. We were not a fan of this. The crispy pork belly was next and was a tad dry. There were 2 sliced portions with some greens with a sauce. I am used to a crispy pork belly being fried to capture all the juices. This was not crispy and the side greens with dressing was very bitter. May we suggest Julianne apples with a maple glaze on the pork belly for future offerings? Bitter does not go well with a dish like this. Next was mains. At the suggestion of the waiter I had the fried chicken sandwich which was offered with multiple sauces, I chose the Nashville Hot. First bite showed this was not a traditional Nashville Hot I was used to. The sandwich was not edible. The sauce used was unnecessarily hot and ruined any taste of the dish. The meat was tough and instead of the bite I took, I had a larger piece of chicken to chew on. I told the waiter and he offered to have me try something else but if you are a wing fan, you know that once you have something that spicy, it will take some time to go away and you can't tasted much else until it does. I've had a Nashville hot many times and this is not what I would consider a proper version. I should have been warned about the extreme heat of this before ordering. My wife had a standard burger. It was nothing to write home about. A small standard patty that she was not asked how she wanted it and came out well done. It was overcooked and dry. She had the sweet potato fries which were a decent offering but could have used a good dipping sauce. The highlight of the dinner was the fries that came with my chicken. Crispy wedges with a really great flavor! All in all a disappointment. A very cool menu offering but the food lacked in what the description offered. We paid full price even though I could not eat the sandwich. A bit disappointed in that. Waiter didn't even offer to reduce the meal. Only a few of their waitstaff displayed strength in service, as some had habits that were displeasing. Holding cups at the rim, not refilling the water, and generally having attitude when asked for assistance- off putting. Most of the staff seemed to lack training, and while people learn over time to develop good practice, it felt like the team aspect of the waitstaff was not where it could be. The food is not all that great, like all other food in Hanover. If you want to get chicken, make sure you get bone-in chicken. The boneless chicken tastes like frozen chicken tenders I can buy at the store. Their drinks are okay, but that's all. I've only visited on Saturday nights, and they are very busy. The social aspect and excitement reflected by other young people throws off the overall poor experience of the place. Which for your own sake as a customer, is good. When there is a performance or some sort of service relating to the "stage" aspect of their name, it is a good night. Generally, I don't recommend going any other time of the week beside Friday or Saturday night...and don't go there hungry. read more

We were in Hanover for a sports event and went in search of dinner on a recent weekend night. Wait times can be long in the small town, one eatery/bar we tried (burgers, beers, slosh, noise)....was well over an hour. We passed a side street and saw the Sawtooth sign (art gallery?), but the kitchen and stage part wasn't lit. Down stairs, we could hear the busy sounds of something that turned out to be quite special. Even though there were open tables, we could see a young crowd at the bar and booths, and several large groups dining in the adjacent room. The hostess appeared - as did what was likely the owner/manager, and asked us to hold on for a bit, as they assessed what the staffing could handle - at that moment. We appreciated the effort. It's one thing to sit down quickly, but timing can be everything (as I see in some of the other reviews), to sit and wait - an uneven experience can all too easily overshadow a very good meal. And I don't need to wax about the challenges our service industry has faced finding dedicated people to work long hours serving food and beverage, for today's rent, fuel, and utility paying wages. Anywhere, USA it's similar.. Even in a college town. When I was in school in vermont, jobs were very scarce - students garnering retail and restaurant positions were scarfed up quickly and those jobs (lots of them) really hard to get. (How does Radio Station sound?) Everyone I knew - wanted to find and get work. Times have changed. Demand remains high. Getting out to dine (or drink!) after the C19 thing has become a priority. Our server/waitress Monica appeared, all smiles and informed us of the restaurant/bar hours, before handing us the menus and beverage pad. We settled on beers and ribs, with salad and soup. Honestly, the menu is terrific. My soup could have been hotter, but it totally made up for it in flavor. The ribs, and even more so - those smoky black beans - outstanding. Beets, slightly overcooked which we tactfully shared with Monica, were overshadowed by a very good dressing and sublime goat cheese pairing. It takes alot of gard work, tireless effort, and many moving parts.....to open a restaurant in 2022, albeit in a small established New Hampshire Town. They are limited by law to music a couple times per week as I understand, which is sad 'cause music is sooo cool live. Food portions were great, with fried pickles that could have served 2-3.
