The place was decorated with colorful posters of the outdoors, which followed the decor of what was in the rock climbing gym upstairs. Speaking of upstairs, you have to use the rock climbing gym's bathroom and the elevator was out of order. It wasn't a short jaunt either to go up the stairs (lol) so this was a bit inconvenient, which made us have to leave earlier than we wanted to. My husband is disabled and it would be difficult for him to use the bathroom upstairs without the elevator working - and there was no ETA on when it'd get fixed. This is an ADA violation to not have an accessible bathroom. FOOD/DRINK: They do have snacks and food to purchase but I did not get some this time around. I got the house special of an iced spiced demerara latte with oatmilk (rich, brown sugar, cinnamon syrup) - it was delightful and delicious. Just the right balance. Hubby got cherry lime espresso fizz (on the summer specials menu). He enjoyed it but I didn't particularly like it (too bitter imho). I couldn't see what brand coffee they used, which I like to know since there are certain brands that bother me. But this place didn't bother me. They do have non-dairy/alternative milk. This is a great spot to study/do work (not a huge amount of space but plenty). However, food and drinks were mid. I got the large iced latte with whole milk (it was ok, pretty bitter), iced matcha latte unsweetened (was very light colored, almost too much milk? But still sweet for my liking), whoopie pie (taste was good but extremely sweet for my liking) and a cinnamon roll (just mid, again very sweet). For my taste buds, it's just not for me. They're located below the Vertical Rock Climbing & Fitness Center, so it's super convenient for those who have an appointment to stop by before or afterwards. Very spacious shop with ample seating. Various specialties available and coffee beans for purchase as well. The decor and atmosphere are the highlights of the shop. You can sense that thought and care were put into the theming/decor. I could see myself coming for a work day or sitting for a coffee with friends. I've been here a few times now and love all the lattes they offer. I tried there Valentine's white mocha one on this visit and really enjoyed it. A lot of students here are studying so you might not find seating if you and friend want to just sit and chat. I would have given it a 5 but it lacks seating for those not studying. I dunno if it's the cold weather, or I'm just getting lazy but I've been going out for coffee more often...which is rare since 99% of the time I make and consume it at home or office. But it is a nice treat to pop into different coffee shops around town to sample their brews. I was in the Tysons area and needed a caffeine hit. I've had Basecamp Coffee Roasters bookmarked for a while, and was encouraged that many of my Yelp friends rate it highly. It's a bit hidden and the best way to describe the location is "behind" the Chik-Fil-A. There is also parking near the entrance, so just drive down the side of the building, instead of parking in the main front part of the mall like I did since it'll save you a few steps. The interior is a mix of modern with outdoorsy chic. Poured concrete floors are juxtaposed against hardwood furniture and posters of America's national parks. I like that unlike some coffee shops, this place is brightly lit with natural illumination from the big windows and overhead track lighting. The wi-fi is also speedy and didn't lag during my visit. Since I was staying for a bit and also needed to get some work done, I ordered a "plain" drip coffee. I agree with some of the other reviews that the main criticism is that the prices are on the high side. A 16 oz drip coffee was almost $5. Was the coffee good? Yes...in fact, quite good for regular drip. The beverage was smooth, with a deep full bodied richness, and wasn't diluted when a small amount of 1/2+1/2 was added. But would I stop in on a regular basis for this coffee? Probably not. I spent a productive hour here and some people I met up with, also commented that the coffee was nice and strong. Restrooms are located up a staircase, and shared with the indoor rock climbing gym on the upper level. All in all, despite it's higher prices, Basecamp Roaster is one of the better coffee shops and worth a try if you're in the area. read more

I could not believe what happened here! Not a place for Black People!!!! Just had the worst experience with a company called Basecamp Coffee Roasters. Yesterday I went to the Tyson's location and was disrespected by the manager, who refused to help me because I had my phone to my ear. He ignored me when I asked to pay for an item and asked "are you done with your phone call". After I gave him feedback he responded with a typical response that he was right and I was wrong. The next day I went back to get the same item and the girl at the counter refused to ring me up and picked up the phone to call someone and he came out to tell me that he wasn't ringing me up because I was rude to him. He then said he called my manager and admitted to defaming my character because i was honest with him about his unprofessional approach. One of the most racist experiences that I have encountered in this area, was a small business around the corner from my store. As African Americans we are constantly told that our responses or challenges are rude and it's clearly because of the color of our skin. I will make this very clear to all of you in this thread, never let companies or people defame your character. They will see that everyone doesn't just turn the other cheek. I will respond but it will the courts that send the message. I have relationships with several of the locations in Tysons. I do a lot of business with them, to include the business in this plaza. Turns out it's tucked around a corner in the back, sharing vertical space with a rock climbing place. Upon entering, I see EVERY SINGLE TABLE is occupied by a Gen-Z person wearing headphones working on a laptop. Seems to me this coffee shop got turned into a work space where you get to hang out for the day for the price of a cup of coffee. That's ok, I've done this too. But not good for casual visitors like me. We did find a high-top table in the back corner, so we were fine. Coffee was good, server was warm and friendly. Atmosphere was on point. I heard so much about Basecamp and I had to give it a try. It was a cold day outside and I wanted to get something hot, so I decided to do just that. It had such a home-y vibe inside and I wish I had more time to spend inside but I had to just go to grab a drink and leave. I ordered a medium hot vanilla latte with almond milk and it came out quick and perfect. It was a drinkable temperature right when I got it which was a huge plus. Located below a climbing gym not far from the Silver Line, Basecamp is easily accessible. It doesn't hurt that you can grab lunch or shop nearby after you finish your coffee. You'll have to take the elevator in the gym or walk to the lowest level of the building to find the entrance. Parking is free, usually readily available at the plaza. The shop is a great place to work, study, or hang out. I've spent several hours here without issue. It can get pretty crowded, so prepare to wait for a table if you come during peak hours or if you have a large party. I usually get a latte or black coffee, and I've never been disappointed. Their baristas are nice, mostly younger. You'll find that Basecamp attracts a lot of younger people, mostly students I'm guessing, but is welcoming to all regardless of their demographic. read more

Overall, a decent cold brew - BUT it got warm quickly - they don't serve it with ice. I'm assuming if you ask - they will add ice - but it would be a small amount of cold brew after adding the ice to the cup. There is a lot of inside seating here. Pretty big and spacious place to hang out or do some uninterrupted work here. I recently went here a few weeks ago for a meet up with friends and I do have to admire that everything wasn't loud and it was very relaxing. I got the Harvest Haze Latte as something I wanted to try something fall like. It did not disappoint but I was a bit confused when the drink came in a take away cup. I really should have asked when I ordered. I'll keep that in mind next time. The cinnamon swirl? It's really good. The person who rang me up asked if I'd like it warm and my god, I think that was the best decision I made that day.
