Unassuming Japanese spot very high quality sushi! Have a few appetizers and ramen dishes, but the vast majority of the menu is sush I came here for dinner on a Friday night with my fiance and we each got 2 different rolls and an edmame app. There was a lot of high quality sushi for the price of each, but the serving size of the edmame was very small. Small dish of complimentary corn soup Service was a little slow/it was a little hard to get their attention

This was a recent discovery by my husband and we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the sushi was! Husband just took us here on a whim for a nice sushi meal and so glad we did. New fave sushi spot in the area. Cafe Ile is an unassuming cafe but the sushi is excellent. When you taste how fresh the fish is - you will know right away. We ordered the Chef's Island which has assorted Sashimi, Sushi, Grilled fish, super dragon roll, spicy tuna shrimp tempura roll and it was so good! Our teenage son was with us and helped us with this platter, although he also had a ramen bowl. We really enjoyed the delicious sushi and hope to be back soon! Everything tasted and looked amazing.

TL;DR: 3.8/5: good value and decent flavors; friendly service Came here for a friend's birthday lunch and came around 1PM on a Saturday. The space is on the smaller size. There were several tables, and it was overall very nice and quiet. Interior is cute, but I think their original concept was supposed to include a coffee shop section, which seems like it has closed (?). There was only 1 server, and he was very nice, friendly, and attentive. Even though he was handling all the tables and running food on his own, he was quite attentive and quick. FOOD: ~Complimentary edamame and seaweed salad: can't mess it up ~Complimentary soup: It was like the Korean corn cream soup that I ate a lot when I was sick. A little too watered down for me ~Sashimi Combo C (4/5): comes with a variety of fish, some premium like chu-toro, ama ebi, and scallop. It seems like the fish was already lightly dressed with soy sauce. For $50 bucks, it was a great value. ~Takikomi gohan (4/5: personal preference): This came with the sashimi combo. When it first came out, I wasn't sure what to expect. When I ate it with the nori, it had a very strong yuzu flavor. I like yuzu in savory dishes, and this was very tasty. Tart and savory. But I can see many people not liking it. ~Spicy yellowtail roll (3/5): basic ~Super Dragon Roll (4/5): Comes with basically a whole slab of eel on the top. It had a lot of different things inside, but didn't taste too muddled ~Tonkotsu ramen (2.9/5): Broth was okay, but it could use some umph. Noodles were nice. Chasu had good flavor but was a little tough. Overall, the food, vibes, and service were decent. Cute date night spot for affordable sushi.

We were looking for a good sushi restaurant in the Tysons area and came across Cafe Ile and decided to give it a try because of its good rating. I have to say that I'm really shocked by the raving reviews of this place. We got the calamari as appetizer, sashimi combo A, and one of the signature roll combos. The calamari...WHAT IS THAT? This was $16 for a total of maybe 6-7 pieces of calamari on the plate with majority being onions and peppers. We felt extremely ripped off for $16. The sashimi combo was okay, but the tuna tasted a little off/bad and was mushy in a bad way. For the roll combo, I don't understand why they'd put two extremely similar rolls in a combination together (they were both shrimp tempura rolls), and the rolls kept falling apart as soon as we picked them up. Not nicely wrapped at all and was hard to eat because everything was falling apart. I feel like they spent majority of the time just decorating the plates. The only thing that was saving me from giving this place a 1 star was that the server lady was very nice. Other than that, this place seems extremely overpriced for the quality they offer.

Cafe Ile has been on my radar for quite some time now but you have to be in the mood for sushi as it doesn't have a wide selection of the typical Japanese dishes (which isn't a bad thing) but everyone in your party should probably be feeling sushi (they do have Ramen and several apps). If you specialize in sushi it must be good right? Yes, the sushi is on point here. We ordered the Chef's Island which offers up sushi, sashimi, rolls, and grilled fish designed to serve 2-3. It's definitely enough food for 2. They give you an assortment of different cuts of fish in addition to the standard tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc. Good quality melt in your mouth sushi. The grilled fish is Ok..a bit on the dry side but the wife liked it. They also start off the meal with a small corn soup and seaweed/edamame salad which is gratis. One comment - the restaurant is on the small side and they had one server at dinner so be prepared to wait a bit longer as it definitely has a 'mom & pop' vibe with limited number of servers. Overall, very happy we tried Cafe Ile and we'll be back.

Delicious food! The tuna is delicious and the flavours are light but delicious. I loved the corn soup taster that they share, try adding a little soy sauce to it. The soy sauce itself was a little sweeter than usual and that added to the flavour profile since it wasn't just salty. We went for brunch. It's not that large of a place so it can get filled pretty quickly. Make a reservation if you can. Service was quick and helpful when asking questions, they had no issue documenting any allergies! The ambience is very chill and relaxed and the decor is beautiful. Would love to see it at night! But good spot to catch up with someone !

I love Cafe Ile! I always get the sashimi combo A which comes with a variety of high quality sashimi. They also give you free corn soup, seaweed salad and edamame to start the meal. The service is great and its a cute date spot! Highly recommend checking it out.

    Spicy Sashimi Salad...yummy!

Spicy Sashimi Salad is excellent appetizer that stir up your taste buds! We also had a Chef's Island as a main for four of us. The combination of Roll, Sushi & Sashimi. We couldn't finish the dish. Great service and romantic music.. Chanson, Cancion etc..

My new favorite sushi spot in NOVA! Such a cozy vibe too. We ordered Takoyaki, sushi combo C, and the 2 in 1 roll. All the food came out around the same time and didn't take too long for a busy night. Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance. The Takoyaki was a nice surprise with more octopus pieces inside than most restaurants. The sushi combo was incredible. I'm pretty picky with nigiri but all the pieces in this set were amazing quality, especially the toro and salmon belly. We had to get another order of just the toro. What's unique about the nigiri here is there's a light brush of sauce on top that's slightly sweet, almost like a very light sweetened soy sauce, nothing overwhelming but a nice touch. Very delicious. The 2 in 1 roll was half salmon and half tuna, best of both worlds! Total was $100 and I'd say that it was definitely worth it for the quality and amount of food.

So unassuming you might actually miss it when driving, Cafe Ile is between United Bank and a parking structure. It's Not in the Mall guys. Place was relatively quiet and clean on a Monday lunch. We were greeted upon entering and service was quick and efficient. Everything we ate was done well with the All-Star being the shrimp tempura roll and the off-menu item being takikomi gohan (too sour and weird in flavor for me). The sashimi was buttery and tasty. They gave us complimentary corn soup and a seaweed/edamame salad. They didn't have steamed egg when we were there, which I would've loved to try. Def a repeat. Thank you!

Dined at Cafe Ile for dinner on a random Tuesday night. Great sushi, lots of menu options, friendly service, beautiful presentation, affordable (for good sushi), casual setting. The toro was fatty and thick cut, fresh melt in your mouth level. The salmon sashimi was buttery and delicious as well. We also had two great rolls, the three amigos and super dragon - BIG, filled with fish, and a great balance of flavors. I loved that the rolls and sashimi included a small side dish of veggies and pickles. Service was really attentive, checking in on us at the right times and really friendly.

Sour rice - I mean really sour
    Yin Y.

Sushi is good but does it worthy for a 40-min wait? Absolutely not. Service was super slow on a Monday afternoon. From the time we sat down till the moment we got our food, it was 40 mins. That's crazy. No checking on us or any explanations were given. And, there were only 4 tables occupied in the whole restaurant. It's pretty quiet inside the restaurant but somehow I don't feel the choices of piano pieces match the dining experience. Unless the service gets changed, unfortunately I will not come back here.

Literally my favorite sushi spot in the nova area! Such great service, very cute minimalistic vibes, and amazing quality of fish! I would say it's not the cheapest but it's not super expensive for the quality you are getting. Went for my mom's birthday and she suggested this place to her friends as well since she had such a great experience!

I will say a toast for the freshest fish And for the stories of the days When the chef reeled them in I will wave my chopsticks For the long-time locals lined up On their nights, they were nice enough I will raise an Ichiban For my servers working hard And for the nights ushered in To the back sushi bar I figured a sea shanty for one of my all-time favorite sushi restaurants was in order. Because you know, they are serving raw fish and those fish are caught by fishermen. If you love sushi, I'm fairly certain you cannot go wrong at Tachibana McLean. It's hard to believe the years I spent here might have been a part of the glory days at Tachibana. When they lost their Itamae and were weathered by covid lockdowns, I think the pace of service changed. But the quality of food never has and I've enjoyed every meal here before and since. This is a classic sushi restaurant so you will not get any sort of innovative fusion rolls here. What you will get is a strict adherence to old school tradition and a focus on quality that is worth a visit. It's hard to say favorite dishes because there are so many delicious choices here. If you are sitting at the main sushi bar, you first may enjoy a free gift of whatever the Ittamae is featuring. If you like that fish, then order more of it. For sushi and sashimi, get what you enjoy here because it's fresh and lovely. Do not miss the Philadelphia rolls here because they are extra creamy and the scallions make them a real delight. I also love the New York roll and the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Back in the day, my go-to was a spicy, crunchy salmon roll. This was always a special request but they humored me since I was a regular. I was also forever asking for a very thin slice of jalapeño in my tuna roll but you could only get that in the less-friendly and ambient sushi cafe down the street. Years later, times have changed and you can now order jalapeños, as well as tempura crumbs and spicy mayo on any roll. They have so many vegetarian rolls here, as well, so that is a whole experience if choose. You can order Japanese pickles, fermented soybean and scallion rolls, a plum and shiso roll, a gourd roll, a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I so enjoy a big plate of veggie and shrimp tempura here. The tempura batter is not thick and just right. I also have very much liked the katsu's here: either crispy Berkshire pork loin or crispy chicken. It's an old familiar taste which you should not miss out on. The bento dinner boxes are also awesome. I usually get salmon, beef negimake, shrimp and veggie tempura, shumai dumplings and salmon sashimi. A delightful treat. The buckwheat noodles and udon soups are a bit plain and while they are classically good, i more enjoy the sushi. As for the cold sake, I recommend: the Shochikubai Nigori, the Junmai Ginjo and the cloudy pearl junmai if it's on hand. They also have Choya plum wine and a beer and wine list. You will love the green tea presentation in the gorgeous pottery, as well as that they are diligent on tea refills. Their desserts are nice but make sure you at least taste green tea ice cream once. You can get it here! It's not easy to find this at restaurants, even sushi restaurants, recently.

I then order 1 Mochi piece. I find it a bit strange that a singular piece is 5 dollars but that's besides the point. The same server opens the refrigerator and pulls out the Mochi with his Bare Hands that I witnessed him use to eat his food and wipe his face before I walked into that door. I actually live in Japan and eat mochi regularly. There was nothing special about that Mochi in taste being 5 dollars. Yakitori platter: The pork belly was pretty salty and a little bit tough, my least favorite of the platter. Seasoning was okay. The problem, I think, that it was over a marinated which made it super salty, it wasn't balanced. I would recommend adding something to balance out the saltines and not marinate it for so long. 2/5 The steak was just okay, it was pretty tough and gristly, not my favorite either, the seasoning and marinade were decent but couldn't save the toughness. Overall, 2/5 Chicken meatball, chicken thigh, chicken breast were all great! Good marinade and moist and juicy! They were the most enjoyable! 4/5 for all of them! The mushrooms wrapped in bacon was interesting, not my thing but interesting, not horrible but not good? I'd probably pass on it next time. 1/5 Overall, disappointed with the steak and pork belly and wouldn't spend your money on them, while chicken was good, dunno if you'd go out of the way to order it if that makes sense. Gyoza: meh, not much there with flavor or taste, not memorable at all, just mid. 2.5/5 SUSHI: Hamachi and scallion Temaki, this is served open like a "taco style" I found this to be enjoyable! The yellowtail was marinated with a subtile flavor that added to the flavor! 3.5/5 Med fatty tuna, chutoro, nigiri was great with flavor and tenderness but my only problem was that there was too mush membrane in the cut where it's hard to chew and where you need to spit it out. Just wish that wasn't there tbh, 3.5/5 The salmon and tuna flight were all great! If I were to nitpick, the rice seasoning was a bit too much, taking away from the flavor of the salmon and tuna. But overall it was enjoyable, 3.8/5 Overall, the food was good, but it is very expensive for what you get, nothing stood out to be amazing that would set this place over the many sushi places in the area. Service is good and ambiance is very pleasant just not sure if it's completely worth it Might go back but with the many options there it's hard to decide.

I initially thought it would be mostly rolls, but it leaned more toward nigiri. That said, everything was super fresh and really well prepared, so no complaints there. I recently started eating seafood again after years of avoiding it, so I have been easing into it, and this was actually a really good place to do that. The fish tasted fresh, clean, and not overly fishy, which made it a lot easier to enjoy. The Osaka roll, which our server recommended, was really good, but my favorite was definitely the paradise roll from the sushi boat. Anything with shrimp tempura is a win for me, and this one hit the spot. The ambiance is cute, cozy, and on the smaller side, which made the whole experience feel more quiet and intimate. It did not feel rushed at all, which I appreciated, especially since we were breaking our fast. We ended up taking a lot of food to go because the portions were so generous, and surprisingly, everything still tasted fresh and delicious even the next two days. The only downside is that it is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, portions, and overall experience helped justify it. Overall, great quality sushi, generous portions, and a calm, intimate vibe. Definitely a spot I would come back to, especially if I am in the mood for fresh sushi without a loud or hectic atmosphere.

We tried the Chef's tasting menu. Every course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully paced, allowing the quality of the ingredients to truly shine. The fish was incredibly fresh, the flavors were refined and balanced, and the craftsmanship behind each bite felt worthy of a Michelin-level dining experience. The attention to detail -- from the sushi rice to the premium cuts and elegant plating -- showed a level of care that's hard to find outside of major culinary cities. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between modern luxury and intimate omakase tradition, making it ideal for a special night out. The staff's knowledge, professionalism, and passion elevated the entire evening. Modan is easily one of the most impressive Japanese dining experiences in Northern Virginia and a true gem for sushi and omakase lovers.

Not as much as parking available (just street or parallel in McLean Metro Station Kiss and Ride lot). It's not a super big place, and was chilly (good for sushi!). I recommend coming for lunch for all the specials! We came on a Friday and got the Salmon Lover (3 salmon nigiri with 2 different salmon rolls [6 pieces each]) for only $19! It came with miso soup and salad. We also tried the 3 sampler special: comes with a wagyu beef nigiri, o-toro, and uni. All of the cuts were refreshing and delicious!! The Taste of Umi is truly AMAZING!!!!! This omakase in a box is very worth it. It can definitely be split between 2 people if you get other items. It come with miso soup and salad. The homemade Umi soy sauce is to DIE FOR!!!! It only comes with the Taste of Umi... it's less salty and more sweet than typical soy sauce. Lunch comes with 6 items versus dinner is 9 items (double the price of lunch).
