Well, considering all the other awful reviews about this place I'm not even slightly surprised by the way the employees there treated me and my friends. My friends and I were having a good time and drinking, spending a lot of money toward this business. When all of a sudden my friend was accused of grabbing some girls butt while in the restroom. It's funny because he didn't and then they for some reason changed the story to say that the girls butt he grabbed was our other friend. That makes a lot of sense. Before this scuffle, there was also some guy that kept coming up to us and saying "fuck you," laughing and then walking away. He did this multiple times. Obviously was intoxicated and friends with the bartenders. Back to the butt grab situation, my guess is they were kicking us out to make room for other people. Maybe they had friends they wanted in or other regulars. Either way, I will never be going back to this place. If you see this review and all the others, stay far far away from this bar. read more

This place is SOOO WACK. I wish I could give 0 stars. The bartender was rude and slow. I was sitting at the bar and was in the middle of taking pictures. This short dude in a simpsons tshirt came up to me and told me to get off the chair because they remove chairs for when it gets busy. There were plenty of other chairs to take away but he attacked me first. I asked if I could finish taking a picture then I'll get off and he said "no I'm the owner" If you're the owner you shouldn't be so damn rude. It also didn't get busy at all. Visited there when at a conference in November, was recommended by waitstaff at another restaurant (in addition to some other establishments in the same strip). Cool vibe and ambiance - big screens that accompany Music being played at DJ. Drinks were not costly but needed more bartenders to respond to customers frequently. Horrible bartender service bartender definitely was making extra cash that night. I ordered two drinks from the bar in the front and I was charge $14 when I ordered from the back bar where this gentleman was he charged me $32 and told me that's what I had to pay. He was very rude and overly dramatic about it when I was leaving he made a comment towards me, and I gave him like just an ugly look I was already over this bartender, and he was being very racist and said some not so nice things as I was exiting the bouncer saw him and said he would take care of it, but I highly doubt it. read more

This is a true story of how I've sent business to The Basement. I'm sitting at one of my favorite downtown bars, the Liquid Monkey when this freakishly hot military dude comes up to me and my gals and asks "Hey, can I buy you a drink?" To which I reply "But of coarse kind fellow!" After Hot Plate brings my regular, the hot military dude attempts to spark up polite conversation and asks, "so are you or your friends DTF!?" To which I reply "No, you have to go to The Basement next door if you're looking for those kinda females." To which he replied "Oh! Cool! Thanks!!" Then immediately left the Monkey. I was supposed to meet a friend for her bday party here last week. Unfortunately I didn't find her after going through crowds of people to look for her and her entourage. Anyway I'll fill you in with the basics of this place. For those who aren't familiar with this area, Basement used to house a really good BBQ restaurant several years ago called Harmon's. Bad news is the restaurant couldn't survive especially with competition like County Line and Bill Miller's so it converted to a nightclub and voila, The Basement was born. As I made my way downstairs, the bouncer asked for my ID. After I showed it to him, the guy then asked me how much I had to drink. I admit I was a bit tipsy after consuming a large shot of vodka mixed with some Sprite at B&N on Flores. So you're not searched for weapons before you enter. Hmmm...ok so scratch a point off for safety but consider that it is downtown and heavily frequented by tourists I doubt anybody would wanna start any kind of drama. Besides the place has a dress code so that's where the bouncer obviously comes in, just for the purpose of eliminating the riff-raff, which is not a bad thing at all. The crowd: usually between early 20s to late 30s. Lots of attractive women, most are tattooed and scantily clad if you like that sort of thing. Guys dressed kinda thuggish, some looked like they did time but they were well behaved. I didn't dance nor did I have anything to drink. One from the previous party was all I needed then I decided to just leave. The soundtrack is nothing but hip hop and R&B. read more

Before we even went in, someone apparently got a gash on their face because of a body slam. It was a very heteronormative and patriarchal space. It took a long time to get drinks, the bartender seemed intoxicated and we left shortly. I would not recommend this space to any folks, especially if you are gay or queer. read more

This bar is the worse place I have ever been in my life. We were walking by and the guy on the street says no cover so my group goes down the steps to enter the bar. Then all of a sudden the clerk down stairs tries to charge me and my partner but no one els in our party. That hurt my feelings being discriminated against. They clearly discriminated against me and my partners gender and LGBT status. This place is not welcoming to LGBT individuals. This is my favorite bar downtown. The drinks are always strong and cheap. The bartenders are pretty cool. Sundays they have like $3 anything or something, we stop by there and get a good buzz and spend less than $20 then meet up with friends at the pricier places on the river. It looks and smells like a hole in the wall and is pretty quiet during the day with a juke box but on the weekends after 11:00... The place is packed and other little bars open up in the back with a dance floor and two DJs. It's really cool! I cracked up when I first saw it happen. Please do not come here. Personally got physically assaulted because of a miscommunications and falsely accused of being accompanied with a certain group. I got thrown down by a staff member, while being punched by a patron without being asked to leave. Mind you the group that punched me never got thrown out. This was my first ever altercation at a bar, and I have never been treated with such disrespect in all my life for something I had nothing to do with. The worst experience I have had a club in years because the security jumped me on the 21st of September. No I wasn't fighting or anything to have them jump me. I was just wearing too much chains that cost more than that bar and I felt like they jumped me to rob me and they seen an opportunity to try and get them. This place was fun, but not a classy place by any means. It was pretty dirty and a little creepy when you first walk in. There are 3 rooms: (1) Pool tables and a few people dancing. (2) the hip-hop room, all dancing (3) pool tables, bathrooms, and some seating. This place is pretty hopping on a Saturday night. They play great dance music and have decent DJs. The drinks are cheap and not too watered down. The crowd is pretty friendly. No cover on Saturday and plenty of drink specials. I would go back to this bar to dance as it was perfect music for that. I do think it could be cleaned up and not as sketchy looking, BUT it is a basement. ;) Worth a shot if you LOVE to dance. (No house music) read more

It was everything you can imagine a basement in Texas would be. Dark, warm, creepy... But I had a blast!!! The staff was cool, 2 DJ's playing music that kept u dancing (if you like hip hop and rap), drinks were on point, and the basement was packed! Dress code was more like "what dress code"... After paying 4 dollars for a bottle beer at some place off the river walk, the 1 dollar domestics & well specials were a nice change for a Saturday night. 75 cent pool tables and there are some electronic dart boards. This place isn't fancy at all.. so pretty much anyone over the age of 21 can go in there with a valid I.D. The night we went (Sat) they had no cover charge. My boyfriend got a long island ice tea.. big mistake. He said it didn't taste like there was any liquor in it. What a waste of five bucks! I had a miller lite, after I drank it we left. The bartender in the back is my friend and she is the greatest bartender ever. She makes every drink with a special ingredient, kindness and care. She would never be rude to anybody or disrespect anyone in any kind of way. She does her job as a professional and therefore acts professional when dealing with customers. My son went there the weekend of Easter 2016 As my nephew was heading out for a cigarette,he was told he was going to get charged again to come back in , my son was walking up to the stairs and ask the bouncer what was going on ,he got close to the bouncer to hear , and the bouncer asked him if he was bucking up to him ,he didn't even let him respond when 3 bouncers started attacking him ...and another attack my nephew me and my husband went Easter night to talk to the owners about the issue ,left my number for contact ...they have not had the curiosity to call me ... Workers Their had mentioned that they probably have a video ,wanted them to at least see the vedio and take actions with there bouncers...I do not think they had the right to use this kind of force .as to what my son told us ,they would have proof of what really happened, I just think that some of these bouncers take advantage and want to have there excitement on beating people ... If your looking for a non safe place to party. This is for you. Noticed the bartender served 5 shots to the same guy within 1 hour. Not all at the same time but you know. Ok so then I notice that the fire sprinkler system nozzle was covered by a towel and right above the nozzle there is a fan like 2 inches above it. Trust me go to the bar new the restrooms where the pool tables are at. In case of a fire how would that help. Bartender laughed and said " ah it doesn't even work". Every time I go here I have an absolute blast! The music is always good and they just added the videos that go with the music on the tv's at the bar which I love. The bartenders are fast , friendly and always down to come up with something special for you on the fly. Their cucumber shot is delicious and the prices are super fair. We got there as our first stop and she dropped a pizza that was ON THE BAR She then went on and blamed it on us. I offered to pay for the pizza (that was not our fault) but she denied and said we had to leave. So we did.
