Treasure their quality and their work ethics! 20+ years ago BWN waterproofed the basement of my then new house. Despite having a property on high ground, water has a way of getting in and flooding and unprotected basement. BWM installed French drains, along with a sump pump and emergency backup battery system. It kept my now finished basement safe and dry for over 20 years!!! Recently, however, there were heavy rains and a drainage pipe leading to the sump pump failed and a small portion of my basement was flooded. More carpet damage than anything else thankfully. I took videos of the leak the next heavy rain and contacted BWN. Despite 20+ years having gone by, they were still in business and stood by their Lifetime basement guarantee. They came back and not only fixed the issue with the one pipe, they preventatively applied the same fix to a similar second pipe, just in case!!! Cost to me, ZERO!!! I bought my first home in the spring. My realtor warned me that my new neighborhood has a reputation for water problems, but it's cool because my new house already has a sump pump. [bzzzzzzt] Wrong answer. By fall, my basement has flooded once. The following summer, it floods again, and this time I'm home to see that the water is coming through the floor WHERE THE EXISTING SUMP SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED. i.e., about as bad a #homeimprovementfail as you can get. (I wish I knew which &*^%#$@s installed that initial system, just so I could warn people away from their shoddy work.) Cue the first-time homeowner's crash course in basements and waterproofing. I must've had eight companies come out, inspect the situation, and give me estimates. BWN was the only one who was willing to work with the existing system, rather than replacing every single element outright. (I mean, I know the drains need replaced, but digging a second pit? It's literally a hole in the ground; how can you not work with that??) Mike gave me an honest assessment of what worked and didn't about my old system, and developed a plan to repair and supplement it to keep me dry. It was a bonus that this made their cost significantly less than the other bidders, but really, what sold me was the feeling that my house and my problems were being addressed, rather than just getting Waterproofer XYZ's cookie-cutter solution. Repair day comes. The crew is on-time, considerate, and thorough. They even set themselves up to come and go through the basement egress window, which kept them from having to haul things through the living room/kitchen/etc. to get downstairs, and also allowed me to put up plastic sheeting over the basement door to help keep the dust contained to the work zone. (This is a relative term. Dust goes everywhere. That's just what happens when you run a jackhammer in a confined space. But it made me feel better.) All debris (floor and drywall material both) was cleared away, and IIRC they even finished ahead of schedule. Over a year later, no more floods! Since then, I've had a couple of follow-up calls (pertaining to the backup pump's battery), to which BWN was highly responsive, and those calls have also gone smoothly. With each crew member and each visit from the first estimate on, BWN has gone out of their way to work with my schedule and arrange service times that suit me. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this company. The company concreted over an existing drain but because the contract wasn't specific enough, we didn't have any way of fighting this. The crew did their job and were nice, but the sales rep and owners didn't' deliver what we agreed on. They also didn't secure the egress well to the side of the house so we'll most likely have issues in a few years...again, vague contract so we'd probably lose more money trying to get them to fix/do work like we discussed... We're not happy and I hope this doesn't happen to you. read more

Water was getting into our basement through a pipe that we thought was sealed. We started searching through Google for different companies, we figured we'll get estimates and then go with the one we are comfortable with. Mike, from BWN was the first to arrive. He came into our home took a look at the issue and offered the service his company could provide. Mike was friendly, professional and upfront and honest. We signed with BNW same day and paid a deposit. We didn't get any other estimates. Today Joe from BWN arrived to complete the work. Again, friendly, professional, upfront and honest! As we were talking to Joe he told us he had been with the company for 33 years and there are others there with the same amount of longevity. This speaks tremendously about a company. To me this says the company cares for its employees and the employees care for the company. It's rare that you find a company like this anymore. Mike and Joe both made us feel completely comfortable with the work being done. My second house w BWN. First was in 2004. That project went very well. Inside French drain, outside bentonite injection for 100 yr old stone foundation. Still own that house. Still tight. Latest 2019, house is next door, same age and foundation. This time just interior French drain. Cost was 4 times the 2004 price. Project did not go well. Ejection pit placed too close to corner walls, under cutting the actual foundation. Ejection pipe hammer drilled through the stone wall w a 2" masonry bit, blowing out the exterior stone face, cracking the entire corner structure 3' down due to the massive vibration. This after a precise conversation to not do that. Directed to exit above the sill plate in the joist bay for exactly that reason. Directed to not mix Portland cement compounds on either asphalt or concrete paver surfaces. Proceeded to mix mortar first, then concrete on a $35,000 hardscape paver surface. Outcome, Portland stains all over the pavers, then tracked all over the asphalt driveway. If I hadn't crawled under the porch to inspect the exterior, they would have happily left the damaged foundation as is. I believe they never expected that. Customer service repair wasn't initiated until emailing the owner of the company. It consisted of sending the same Forman to do even more damage with muriatic acid and wire brushes. No mason skills used to try and repair stone damage. After picking up cigarette butts and food trash through 4 evolutions of things just getting worse, I said just give me 4 bags of bentonite and go away. They brought three, from a new guy they said I would love to work with, and a lovely disclaimer saying how happy I was. Wasn't happy, took the bags, signed it, sent him away. Writing this review now, because I just found $300 worth of stained glass smashed to pieces and covered up as I finally put the basement back together. They were well protected but obviously moved then destroyed. I get it. They were glass. I should have hauled them out of there. Accidents happen. Just tell someone. Don't hide it. Unforgivable. I recently had my basement waterproofed by BWN. We were having condensation issues. Time will tell with the results but so far so good. (4-5 stars so far for the work). I wanted to make sure people understood that if BWN (or any company) breaks apart your cement slab to do the work (which is likely), YOU SHOULD FOLLOW UP BY TESTING YOUR HOME FOR RADON. They don't inform you that you should have this done and fortunately for me, a potential buyer of my home had the testing done and my house was in the unacceptable level. Had I not been selling my house, I would have never known to test for this and might have lived with this for years, endangering my families health. Radon comes into your house through openings and cracks in your cement slab. With waterproofing, they often put in a drain and sump pump which opens up your slab and allows more radon to potentially enter the property. They do pour new concrete to cover most of the opening, however, in our case they left a small gap all along the wall to allow moisture to drain into the trench area. This house-long gap is a new opening that potentially allows radon to escape into your home. Overall, I'm pleased with the work they did and the fact that they give a transferrable warranty. I only wish they would tell their customers to test for radon after they've completed their work. read more

We started experiencing water in our basement after living in our home 20+years. We had a sump pump and a French drain and couldn't understand what was happening.
