Phenomenal! Value Dry was a referral from another small local company whom I implicitly trust. Markus, their VP, came out to give us a proposal and quote. We then got proposals from two other local companies. Though Value Dry was not the lowest quote, we felt by far the most comfortable using them. And we are very glad we did. Our entire basement, which is entirely below grade, has (had!) water seepage due to hydrostatic pressure (water is forced into the house from underground), especially this last year with all of the rain we've had. And we have a huge basement. Markus proposed a new french drain around the entire interior perimeter of our basement, all of the exterior walls: 210 linear feet in total (we have a big basement). He explained in-depth what they proposed to do and why and how. They also added a second sump pump for us. And a battery back-up pump. They sent a crew of just three guys. Roger was the foreman, and you just have to love that guy. Great personality and he calmly and politely answered every question I had (I'm a detail freak). They were fantastic. They kept everything as clean as possible (not completely, but you can only do so much for concrete dust from jackhammers). Their work was very detail-oriented. It was cool seeing the destruction followed by the construction, laying down the new PVC underground drainage pipes, the new concrete on top of it, etc. Roger and I had discussions throughout the week about how best to do several things, like where and how to place the clean-outs (we have two) for the pipes. Bottom line: Look no further. They are honest. Not too expensive. And they deliver exactly what they say they will. Also, just a few weeks after completing our basement they did a smaller job for my in-laws, also local. They were just as happy with their work and with both Markus and Roger and his crew as we were. Received 4 quotes they wanted me to do work that was not needed. Huge waste of time and said I had a week to make a decision

I contacted Value Dry via a contractor referral site where they had excellent reviews to waterproof our basement & install an egress window in our basement. It took them days to respond. That was the first red flag. When they did respond via the referral app, they said "Good morning, Thank you for reaching out to Value Dry Waterproofing, unfortunately we have been unable to reach you but will keep trying..." No one from Value Dry tried to reach me. That was the first real contact from them. According to the referral site, all contact should be done via the referral portal for everyone's protection. When I spoke to the person to make an appointment, they insisted that "all homeowners" be present for the inspection & that we needed to set aside 2.5 hours for it. They would not make the appointment unless we were willing to commit to those conditions. So Shane, their inspector came by, showed us movies to explain everything, then spent roughly 1.5 hours looking things over then measuring & drawing diagrams & working up a proposal. Then he sat me down to explain it all, go over the proposal & answer any questions. His initial "MSRP", that's what he called it, was for $31,085.25. When I balked, he quickly started lowering the price. For the egress window & well the price was $20,000!! He offered to price match any other offer we obtained for the waterproofing, which he managed to lower near $8,000 because we didn't want this or that or absolutely need this or that. I felt like I was at a car dealership & negotiating the price & options for a new car. Shane left me feeling like he was more interested in up selling us, than helping us solve our problems. He could fix our basement water issues but the priority was profit. Shane arrived promptly at 4:00pm & left at 7:30pm. We were flabbergasted that this company had so much time & effort to spend on this. Again, it reminded me of the time and effort it takes to purchase a car. Too much time, too much money, & I felt kind of abused by this company by the time Shane left. Guess what, we aren't hiring them. Caveat Emptor!! UPDATE: We have since hired another company that came in after Value Dry (see my other reviews to see who we hired) and they have excellent reviews (not just from me). Their salesman did a thorough evaluation, explained everything, offered a larger scope of work (comparing apples to apples) without trying to sell fancy unneeded add ons. Their price was still thousands of dollars lower than Value Dry. Their guys did excellent work. Whatever defense the Owner of Value Dry gives & does not want me to judge them by price or the amount of time their salesman (who was a gentleman) wasted, it ALL figures into a review. I really don't like to write reviews, especially when or if the service provided is not that good. In this case, my review is about the customer service in lieu of an estimate I was seeking for a potential project - still presently pending. First and foremost, I made the call seeking an estimate for a waterproofing project in the lower level of my home. Cutting right to the chase, Bill is truly a "salesman" at heart and pushed the necessity of installing a Sump Pump in the lower level of my home. I don't doubt he's knowledgeable and/or experienced; and even know the "science of water." I'm happy for him, but getting work done to this extent is excessive and not what I need; and yes, water does what it does and goes where it goes. But my house does not flood, nor have I had any flooding issues or intrusion of water. There is dampness in the right/left corners of my home where the waterspouts are positioned outside. Bill had no interest in putting an outer barrier in those areas where dampness is present and admitted that he wouldn't do it because I need a sump pump! Most of his comments were condescending and rude for whatever reason. And I'm almost certain if a man were present, he would not have made a lot of the sarcastic comments that he did. My voice, my words, and what I was requesting was not important and frankly, I just don't think he gave a damn. Because according to him/Bill, he knew everything about water and what I needed as well as giving me all the worse scenarios of what would/could happen. Never mind the other waterproofing options or alternatives available that he said he wouldn't do and considered it a waste - then why does the company offer the alternatives! I'm not interested in doing business with a company that doesn't or won't listen to the customer/consumer but rather insist on selling me what they think I need. And I may need a sump pump at some point; maybe 5 - 10 years from now, but that's not what I'm looking to get at the present moment. And you/Bill don't have to agree with me. But at the end of the day, the final decision isn't yours, it's mine. read more

Terrible experience due to lack of research on our part. The salesman sold us surgery for an issue that required a bandaid. Overall, I strongly recommend conducting research on waterproofing methods before reaching out to contractors, and once you've reached that point, don't contact this company. When the subcontractors finished installing the sump pump and drain that we didn't need, the lead guy specifically stated, "you didn't need this." Also, the sales person improperly mapped the basement for installation, so we had to spring for an electrician to install a new outlet for said sump pump. Very deceptive and expensive practices. Totally disappointed and dissatisfied with the lack of professionalism! I hired this company because my rental property was cited by DCRA for "efflorescence" on the wall in the basement crawl space of the home. After meeting with other more reputable companies.. I decided to go go with Value Dry because they were able to complete the job in the timeframe I needed. The sales rep Joon came out and was in the beginning very responsive and appeared to answer my questions and ensure that the job would completed in the manner advertised. Unfortunately, things quickly went down hill upon meeting the "Foreman Tyler" Tyler showed up to the jobsite looking very disheveled (vagrant looking). I was alarmed by his appearance, but ignored it. We proceeded to discuss the job and the first RED FLAG was the fact that Tyler didn't even know what "EFFLORESCENCE" was.. I explained to him that was the most important reason i embarked on the $13,400 project! He became extremely defensive when i questioned his credentials. I ignored it... as shortly after Joon You shows up and explained to Tyler in layman terms what efflorescence was. Ok ... so inquired about the holes in the concrete being filled before installing the water intrusion barrier.... Immediately Mr. Tyler tells me that he cannot do that and that i would have to pay more. I had to explain that it didn't make sense to put up a barrier over holes in the wall.... all the while Tyler's attitude and demeanor continued to be quite off putting. Again I ignored! Joon intervened and convinced Tyler to fill the holes before putting up the barrier at no additional cost. 3 days later the job is so called complete. I go to the property and on the surface everything looks complete, however i notice there is nothing between the wall and this white vapor barrier he put up... not certain how this white sheet material will prevent water intrusion. I asked why the self adhering membrane wasn't applied and he tells me that it was not in my contract! Why would they put up a vapor barrier against a brick wall without adhering a weather resistive barrier? Nonetheless.. I signed off not wanting to converse any further with the guy who looked as if he was "high" on something!!!! Fast forward 3 more days later I go back to the property to see water everywhere in the crawl space..... well now the PVC pipe is disconnected and water is gushing out of the pipes! I immediately called Joon You, no answer! I then called Value Dry... spoke to a young lady who says that a manager was not available and she will send my message, however couldn't confirm if someone would return my call on that day... Meanwhile the water is gushing out of the pvc pipe that "Tyler" grossly neglected to seal with the epoxy glue! I then remembered i had Tylers number. I called and explained what was going on ..he first told me he would call the office and get back to me... meanwhile I was advised by another contractor to disconnect the power to the sump pump in order to stop the water from gushing out! I waited 2 1/2 hours for Tyler to show up. he shows up looking 10 times worse than he did in the prior interactions very disgruntled and angry that he had to come out on a Saturday. No apology for his gross mishap.Telling me that i had the nerve to call the office and complain. Cursing at me and telling me that he made "1 Fuc..king Simple Mistake" after he did all this hard work!! I told him that all this wasn't a simple mistake.Had I not come to the property the entire basement would have been flooded! He continued to behave erratic rant, raving, and pacing up/down saying that I should have done the "Fu..cking job myself since I know so much ! He even said that he "Hates his F..king job and is going to quit! With that he left and refused to clean up the water! My husband and i were forced to extract the water with cups and blankets I had in my car! I have made several calls/text to Joon, sent pictures/videos.NO response! I would highly recommend this company. They are professional, experts, and honest. My drainage system had failed. Due to the failure, moisture got behind my dry walls and mold was growing. This is from the summer of 2019. Russell came out to take a look at basement water damage from what we assumed was problems with our foundation. He diagnosed the issue and offered several conclusions: 1. the water damage was not coming from outside the house; our foundation was probably fine notwithstanding some cosmetic cracks. The water damage was likely coming from a refrigerator leak in the kitchen above(he was correct). 2. Even if it was a foundation leak, the project was below Value Dry's threshold. We would be overpaying to use their services. All in all, we were very pleased with the honest and professional assessment. read more

We just had our estimate conversation and explained our flooding issues to the tech. He looked all around the perimeter of the house, and also the sump pump, water heater, and HVAC. We were surprised but relieved when he identified a major backup in our HVAC that our own plumber had missed (he showed us the clog, and explained how the areas that were flooding could just as easily be an HVAC issue as a ground water issue) and suggested we have that serviced and ruled out prior to having the larger project of a basement waterproofing system installed. I do not recommend this company. Proposed work did not match what was required to be done; adding cost and labor to repair finished basement walls and stairs (Value Dry did compensate me for stairs replacement and new yard sign they ran over on front lawn). Project was not completed in time allotted. Original plan was for work to require 1 to 3 days to complete. Work was started on a Wednesday (a day late) and completed the next Monday (a total of 4 work days over 6 day duration). I noted that work crews were only on site at my home for about 6 hours per day ( I assume as a result of travel time). Work crews did not lay down any coverings to protect finished flooring and scarred the flooring. Owner of company took position that I should have known that the flooring would be damaged based on his 25 years of experience ( this was my first basement waterproofing project). Dumpster used to haul away debris sat on my front yard 10 days after work was completed. Poor coordination between sales, workers, project management, and contractors. read more

The summer of 2012 was not a fun ride for me. I found mold in my basement behind a wall of storage stuff. It turned out to be the dreaded, black mold. That stuff that can crawl in your lungs and shorten your life. Not good. I first contacted Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing, who sent out a guy who was flirty and charming and wanted to tear out the front of my house plus 30 feet into the parking lot of my townhouse cul-de-sac to fix the problem. Or, for about half the price, they could do all the work inside the house, only tearing up the perimeter of the entire basement floor. Neither of these options appealed to me, since the mold was only in a 17 foot section of wall that included the storage room and the adjoining stair landing. Tearing up 87 feet of perimeter floor to fix a 17 foot problem sounded excessive. I then did some further research and contacted Value Dry Waterproofing. Their guy came out, and really educated me on the source of the problem and his plan for fixing it. He asked me if I had retained any other estimates. I told him I had, but didn't want to share them with him until I had his in hand. I almost choked when he said, "A few other companies will start with a scare tactic, saying you need to tear out the front of your house and get a back hoe and other heavy equipment in, to be able to repair the problem properly." Gee, that was all too familiar. After he left, I contacted Nick Zarpas, a friend of mine who is a contractor. The job was not the kind he could do, and I appreciated him admitting it, rather than trying to make my house a learning experience. In any case, I wanted his help in choosing who to hire for this project. Nick reviewed both proposals and pointed out a VERY KEY AND IMPORTANT STEP, Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing DOES NOT DO MOLD REMEDIATION. The whole point of this project is to get rid of the mold and prevent any future mold. Not only did Value Dry Waterproofing promise to remove all the mold, they guaranteed it, and warrantied it, and they did it for thousands less than that other place quoted. They did an excellent job. I decided to wait at least a year before writing this review, to make certain I'd still be pleased with their work. It's been 18 months and my basement is dry and mold free. I couldn't be happier. One of the features of the system they installed involves a marine back-up battery in case the power goes out and water in the french drain needs pumping. The power went out for 4 days because of a storm, and the battery started beeping. I called Value Dry for help, because I couldn't remember what they said to do almost a year after it was installed, and didn't want to look for the paper work. They were very understanding and walked me through the reset step by step. Their patience was refreshing. After that call, I knew in certainty, I did the best thing for my house and for me in choosing Value Dry. read more

A couple years later, our lawn is a quagmire, the pipes have disintegrated, the system died. The pump is supposed to have a lifetime guarantee HOWEVER, when we called it was going to cost us 500$ for them to replace it... The company went out of business and they don't honor their original agreements under the new management. The crawl space encasement did not work as they did not seal all the seams. The salesman guaranteed us that would remove the musty smell. Wrong. Wish I could upload the photos and videos of the stream now filling our backyard...the bubblers they installed have so much water coming out of them they have developed green scum in the standing pool of water around each one. Some of the larger schrubs in the area are falling over because the ground is so sodden. I would steer clear of Value Dry. read more

The company refused to look at my basement because my husband wasn't also home. At no point was it communicated to us that they required both homeowners to be present - if they had, we certainly wouldn't have made the appointment for a weekday. I even spoke with company president Jim Ketterer and he insisted that his staff had communicated to me that we both had to be present. Nonsense! Terrible customer service - really disappointed since we had heard good things about the company. When I told the inspector they had wasted my time with me scheduling my day around the appointment, she said "if anything, you've wasted my time." Wow. Outstanding people and service! My son has a townhouse in Columbia that was leaking along one wall in the basement. Their rep, Bill S. came out to assess the situation and provided us with a presentation / education / recommendation about remediating the problem. We compared them against a couple other contractors and concluded that Value Dry was the best value solution. My son chose to go with the partial perimeter, below ground sump pump. The installation team, led by Carlos, was prompt, professional and courteous. They covered every inch of the pathway from the front door to the work area and sealed off the work area to avoid dust from settling anywhere; no small feat since they had to jackhammer the cement floor. They left the place cleaner than they found it. After the installation, Carlos explained the operation and maintenance of the system. Nearly five years ago we took bids on drying out our cellar. We live in an old historic home and the cellar was VERY humid. Some companies did not even want to bid, but Value Dry made an offer that made sense and was reasonably priced. Among other things, they installed a fan which took air from the floor - the most humid - and blew it out at street level. It is compact and has done the job. We have pretty much run that fan half the year for five years. But the fan stopped running. It took us a while to even remember what company installed it. We figured it out, and Value Dry had the records. They came to install a new fan and DIDN'T CHARGE US!! They said that the fan had a ten year warranty on it. Wow. We were were not expecting that! And while they are in MD, don't hesitate to call them even if you are in Northern VA, like us. They are very responsive! read more
