First time in Edmonton - great food. I even Considered ordering more to bring home. Also, very quick.

Stopped into Basha Donair and Shawarma last week to surprise 97 year old Great Grams with lunch. It was PACKED at lunchtime with a predominantly down and dirty hard working crown. Of about 20 customers, I think I saw one other female. The staff were friendly, fast, and informative - which was necessary given this was my first visit and there were SOOOO many choices to choose from. Now, I'll say that the pita bread was not amongst the fluffiest I have had and the meat a tad drier than I like but the toppings were out of this world! I have never seen so many toppings or sauces at a Donair shop. The garlic and sweet sauce was perfection and I believe I tried pickled radishes on my donair that were different and delish. There were about 10 or so donair recipes you could order by name but are always welcome to customize away. They advertised the world's largest donair for $14... I sense a challenge coming on for the hubs. They offer kiddo meals here with a small donair and fry for just shy of $7. I definitely want to come back and try the Donair poutine. But that's an eat in item for me - I love my fries still crisp. And I'm always down for a good falafel. Two thumbs up! Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Now this is a great donair shop... loaded until they cant fold the pita anymore. .. and reasonably priced. 8 locations all over Edmonton and Sherwood Park. I love a good donair and this is one of the best I ever had.. loaded until you literally feel like you're going to burst. Little bite ( small ), big bite ( large ) and then there is the Sasquatch ( super large ).. plus other items on the menu - it takes a few minutes to go through it all but no matter what you choose, it will satisfy your craving. The Shawarmas are chicken only which is too bad but still it looked good. They also have burgers as well but I would stay that it's only on the menu simply because .. just to say they have them as well. My friend ordered the chicken shawarma and I chose the Big Bite donair. Service was fast, the restaurant was clean and the staff were great. The order was completed quickly and we were thanked for coming in.. wow ! Never heard that ever before. Our food was hot and it was delicious. This place can be a little tricky to find. This area of Sparrow Drive is basically hotels and truck stops. This Basha Donair restaurant is located next to a liquor store kind of in a building where there's also a Subway. I wanted to get the chicken shawarma platter but they didn't have rice at the time *sadface*. Anyway I went with the Basha Chef Style Donair. I was impressed and yes this thing was good. I took it to go and when I got back to the office I was making all my coworkers jealous. I'm still on Eastern Time so I had to eat lunch early so when I got back nobody had gone to lunch just yet. This donair wrapped in a pita is absolutely LOADED with meat. For those that don't know donair meat is like gyro meat but there's no lamb, just beef. This delight was so packed with meat it hardly had space to put anything else inside. I did however ask for some tomatoes, onions, banana peppers and a little lettuce. This donair also comes with bbq and the "sweet sauce". What I liked is that even though this thing was stuffed, it didn't make a mess, it wasn't dry and it didn't leak all over the place. I actually was able to eat it at the desk I was working at with minimal things falling out. The construction of this donair is that solid. The entire thing must have weighed close to 2 pounds. We live in Edmonton but wanted to attend a conference in Leduc so we took a room for the night before the conference. That meant dinner in Leduc. Hotel dining is pricey so we were pleased to discover a shwarma restaurant a block from the hotel. First impressions are not inspiring as this branch of Basha's sits hidden behind a truck stop beside a dive bar. Once inside, the impression changes. The restaurant is bright and clean, especially the washrooms (clean washrooms, truck stop, does not compute) The counter is pure fast food style. The menu is lit up over the grill /gyro area. We had shwarma wraps which apparently only come with chicken. We are used to lamb, as in the middle east but decided to go with the Leduc flow. There is a vast array of veggies, pickles Subway style to fill the wrap as well as three styles of sauce. The sauce is slathered on the wrap - my preference is on the meat but the slathering was done before I could signal my preference. Also, the sauce was slightly stingy. There is no hot sauce at the counter, only sriracha at the table. This means taking the wrap apart if you like it hot. I assume that takeout is never spicy given this arrangement. We ordered a side of fries that were dumped on the tray. A small container would keep the fries warm and not create a mess. The staff aren't Middle Eastern but they are personable. However, they don't seem to know the Arabic terms for some of the pickles. Despite our small complaints, we had a decent filling meal for less than it would cost if we ate at the hotel. read more

Same excellent food and service as the main Leduc restaurant only a new setting. Try the donair and fries combo - good deal dollar for portion. The Mixed wrap is great also. Excellent combination of flavours! Top any donair with the red onion and herb blend. read more

One of the best donair experiences. Well made, tightly wrapped so it did not create a big mess, and they don't skimp on the filling. And the had pickled turnip which I like to add. Also some of the best jalapeño poppers and fried pickles. Only issue is TV was a bit loud. read more

Having experienced Halifax NS Donair, I have big expectations of a good Donair! This place did not disappoint. Good service and food.

The first time that I ever ate a "gyro", or donair, would have been back in the 80's at the very first gyro restaurant in Edmonton. It was downtown close to a Woolco and a movie theatre. I instantly became a fan of the salty roasted onion garlic infused meat. BTW at the time they gave you the choice of "sweet" or "savoury" sauce... Basha serves their donair in almost the same classic manner; just a little sweet sauce with a focus on the meat. You can tell that they are not middle eastern like my original Gyro servers were but they sure have the recipe! read more

This restaurant was my first experience with Donair. I have had shwarma before but had never heard of its beef counterpart. The cashier was great at talking me through the menu and making recommended the right size Donair for me. I will be back again during this trip for the Donair Poutine. read more

I must admit I was a little skeptical when I saw a Shawarma place apparently owned and operated by Filipinos. Having said that, this place was quite good. We had the falafel wrap, chicken shawarma, and Greek salad. The food came out quickly but not suspiciously quick. Everything tasted fresh and above average...though not mind blowing. If you looking for a Mediterranean food do not go for this place, do not have Mediterranean flavor, the beff shawarma is not good, chicken is good but do not go thinking that you will eat Mediterranean flavor read more

Decent middle eastern food. Falafel is good as are their donairs. Is a bit pricey but food choices are a bit limited in Leduc so it is nice that this place exists. Wide selection of beverages. read more

As reported, this is a small place located between a convenience store/Subway and a liquor store. It was fairly clean and the service was friendly and quick. This was my first time to try a donair, and I have to say that I prefer a gyro over the donair. The pita came out of a sack, but was soft and not too chewy. But I found the meat to be a little dry. The toppings and sauce were good, but the meat was bland as compared to gyro meat. I would try the shwarma if I went back. read more
