I've been here a few times. I get a shrimp dish with Chick peas and rice w fattoush salad and pita w this yummy garlic sauce. It is soooo good. I love this dish and the fattoush w it is an extra bonus. It is way better than a regular garden salad you might get at other restaurants. I often crave this meal when I'm out somewhere and getting hungry. The owner is so nice and accommodating. I recommend dining here or ordering your next carryout. I have moved away from Detroit area but I eat here 2 times every week I come back. I Love this place. When I lived here, I would eat at least once weekly. Some of the best food and I have tried them all. This place is rock solid, even rock star good. I have tried the rest in the area and several places in Detroit. Eh. Came here today, our original plan was Brome Burger in Dearborn but with the snow, we decided to stay someplace closer to my boyfriend's apartment area. I had a $20 Restaurant.com thing which is why we chose this place, plus we both like Mediterranean food. We had recently gone to Malek Al Kabob, in Taylor, which was excellent, so Bashar's had large shoes to fill. We walked in, around noontime, and the place was completely empty, with no music playing. There was a sign that seat Wait to be Seated so we waited, soon someone came out to seat us. There was a poster on the door advertising a $6.99 lunch deal that sounded pretty good - a shwarma sandwich, fries or rice, and a fattoush salad - but the waiter said we could either do that OR use my restaurant.com coupon. I wasn't super surprised at that but it was still annoying. Bread and garlic were not complimentary, which makes Bashar's lose a star from me automatically - at Malek they were, and at other places they charge a small fee; here it was $4.99 or $5.99 for a medium serving of garlic, I believe, with pita bread. We did get a HUGE portion of garlic, but still. The garlic was very tasty, it was a bit spicier than others I have had. I got the chicken kabob sandwich and it had chicken, garlic, onions, and red and green peppers in it. It was very good but tasted more like a pita sandwich than kabob - I couldn't taste the garlic that much. My boyfriend had a chicken shwarma sandwich. The portions are very large here, for $4.99 for a sandwich, especially, but we both agreed that Malek's is better, taste-wise. Overall not a bad place, but I wasn't super impressed by it, either. read more

Hubby and I recently had lunch at Bashar's. We're foodies and eat out often. We love Mediterranean food and Bashar's is excellent. They are open, even though a white small sign by the road says they now offer takeout. We at first was wondered if they were serving inside. Greeted promptly and sat quickly. We both got a cup of lentil soup, which was quite generous. Yummy and seasoned perfectly. I got a chicken swarma sandwich and hubby got a chicken kabob sandwich. Both came in grilled pita with a delicious garlic sauce. Mine had pickles; my favorite. Highly recommend this restaurant. If you love Mediterranean food, this is the best around. So many great restaurants were decimated by the shutdown in Michigan, they all need a chance at serving you. We moved here recently from Georgia (metro Atlanta area), and know good food when we find it. Give them a try. They also serve alcohol for those who enjoy a cocktail with their meals. I love middle eastern and mediterranean food. Love it! I could eat it every day. As such, I am an extremely harsh critic of it, as I cook it myself often and have been spoiled by the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights area as I lived there for a few years. First of all, the owner (at least I think he was the owner there today) was so, so nice. The food came within a reasonable amount of time. I'll just dive right into it, listing off my thoughts on what I had. Deboned Chicken: Very, very tasty. Somewhat dry, but nicely seasoned and very flavorful. Great portion and the rice was excellent. Garlic (toum): EXCELLENT. 'nough said. Fattoush salad: Not used to the large chunks of tomatoes, or lettuce. I prefer everything much more condensed. The dressing was good, but Cedarland still takes the prize on that. The bread was not as fresh and Dearborn, but downriver does not get fresh pita daily...it has to be unfortunately transported, and that particular type of pita looses freshness FAST. Overall, OK, but not "amazing." Hummus: Although OK, I would consider their hummus an "area of opportunity." It almost appeared to be made from canned chickpeas, or maybe with a lower grade Tahini (not really sure). The portion size was very small for the price. Lentil Soup: Not my favorite. I make mine with red/orange lentils. This one was made with brown lentils and also had meat in it. Sorry, but i didn't really care for this. I think this place definitely as potential. It would be really great if they could work on some stand-out dishes that could go head-to-head with dearborn. Also, I think the pricepoint was a too high. Willing to keep going back. read more

Extremely disappointed and will NOT be back. Went here, today being from Kentucky with a Groupon to use. After ordering food, then presented certificate, he stated was not valid on Weekends/Holiday and he told Groupon to put that in fine print. Needless to say, Nothing in Fine Print about that and I ended up with a $47 bill instead of being able to use my $27 Groupon I paid for. This is fine print from Groupon: Fine Print Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per table. Valid only for option purchased. Dine-in only. Not valid for happy hour specials. Must purchase 1 food item. May be repurchased every 30 days. Considering we had to leave to go back to KY, there was no way for us to use it later in week. To be an owner of a restaurant, hoping to build good will and repeat business (considering our family lives locally right around this place) is completely shocking and I would not recommend supporting a business that would treat their customers this way, when this is an issue with Him and Groupon. Had a terrible experience here today. I'd like to start off with a disclaimer that we are middle eastern and know good middle eastern food as we eat it all the time. My family and I came in today (the day before thanksgiving) around 2:30 pm for lunch. The restaurant was completely empty and we were the only ones in there. The design is extremely plain looking, the bathroom felt dingy and there were no paper towels stocked in there to dry my hands. We started with a hummus. The hummus was lumpy-ish and not extremely smooth in texture as it usually should be. It had zero flavor to it and just not good at all. Normally I love garlic but the garlic paste was extremely potent and had a fishy taste to it that was odd. The garlic ruined the taste of my shawarma sandwich. I got the lunch special (sandwich, fries, salad) but upgraded my fattoush to taboulli for $1 extra. Everything was served on the same plate. My fries and sandwich were getting soggy from the taboulli dressing spilling into them. I had to remove all the fries from my plate just to salvage the ones that didn't get soggy yet. The taboulli actually tasted pretty good. The fries were ordinary and could have used more salt. And as I stated earlier, the fishy taste of the garlic ruined my sandwich. The sandwich also wasn't as packed with ingredients as most other restaurants make it. I ordered spaghetti for my son. Again, another bland tasting item to me. But I didn't mention any of this to the waiter because I didn't want to complain and I wasn't even planning on writing a negative review until THE FOLLOWING HAPPENED: I had a Groupon for this place. ($24 voucher towards the bill). The merchant refused to accept my Groupon because he considers "Thanksgiving Eve" to be a holiday. Mind you, there are no holiday exclusions in the fine print, and today isn't a holiday, it's just a normal Wednesday. I explained this to him multiple times and he continued to refuse to accept it. So we paid the bill and left. I got my Groupon refunded later. And I'll never go back again. But considering I never complained to him about the entire meal, why would he risk losing us as a regular customer over this Groupon? What if I actually liked the food and planned on coming back regularly? This Groupon matter alone would definitely deter me from returning. Don't offer discounts if you can't afford to accept them. read more

I checked this place out with my mom. We stopped in for a late lunch. The place was empty. We were greeted promptly by a man who appeared to be the owner. Drink orders taken, we ordered the lunch special: a chicken Sharma with rice and a fattous salad for 6.95. The owner took our order and went off to cook. We did not get any bread or garlic paste, nor our salads before meal. Which was okay because really who needs all those carbs? Instead the owner after about ten minutes came out with our lovely meals, salad on platter and served us. We asked for exta garlic paste, which he promptly brought. Very disappointed. The chicken had no seasoning. I got the chicken kabob entree and the tabouleh. The only thing I enjoyed from my meal was the sauteed bell peppers. The tabouleh was dry and had no flavor at all! I ordered through grubhub, got my food to my table and honestly took a couple bites from my meal and tossed it. Literally ate cereal instead. The wife and I decided to drive here for lunch on a Sunday. We had a Groupon, and our waitress was still very nice and attentive. It could've been because for the first 20 minutes we were the only people in the restaurant, but I digress. The hummus we started with was 3 out of 5 stars. Not bad, but not spectacular. They have the basic pita bread in a bag, again, not bad, but the fresh bread at Beirut Gardens blows it away. That being said, my wide ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich and I got the chicken shawarma/kefta special called Tareq's special. Kefta and shawarma were both well seasoned and served with a really, really good fattoush salad. The garlic sauce here was also really, really good. Overall a pretty good dining experience. I had big hopes for this place as it's extremely close to my office and it had a big sign on it stating that Channel 4 had selected it as one of the best in Metro Detroit. Which either Channel 4 never had Middle Eastern food before or they never ate at this place. I'm not saying it's horrible, but it is no where near the best. Or even one of the best. I hate to write a bad review about anyone because it could affect someone's livelihood. But I was greatly disappointed. The fattoush salad was terribly bland and it was very small. Then the mixed shawarma was just OK. What's more disturbing is my bill was $19 for what would be considered kid's portions. Maybe I'm spoiled by the great food and large portions at my favorite restaurants in Dearborn. I won't be back. Which is sad because I was really hoping this place would be great. read more

I gotta say, when I got to this place I wasn't expecting a whole lot. It looks like the building used to be a Denny's. This place serves beer, mixed drinks, Mike's Hard, wine, etc. To my surprise, the food was quite tasty. We had the hummus with chicken as an appetizer, and got a "medium" size side of garlic sauce. The portion was HUGE. It was the size of a dinner plate! Considering that was a medium, the large must be massive! I had the falafel sandwich and my husband had a schwarma sandwich for our meal, and I got a side of almond rice. Everything was great- the best part is, it looks like they put the sandwiches in a panini press- so the pita was nice and crispy! The only downside is that their pita for hummus is the flat pita in a plastic bag, whereas I prefer the hot fluffy pita, but the food was so tasty, I might overlook that and make another visit. read more

My first experience was good. A lot of food for your money, cozy atmosphere but more of a diner atmosphere. My second time was the last time I will ever eat there. I found a hair in my food. My husband and I stopped in on a Sat. around 5pm to have dinner. Surprisingly, the place was empty! Not a soul there. We were quickly sat by a pleasant hostess and server. We placed our drink orders and meal orders. Service was perfect. We ordered: -Stuffed Grape leaves -Hummous -Fattoush Salad w/ Chicken -Pirogues Food came promptly as ordered. The hummous portion was large and tasty; however, the pita bread given with it was dry and stale. Garlic sauce is VERY strong and has a bite. Fattoush salad size is somewhat small. Stuffed grape leaves were also small in size, and were just so-so in taste. Chicken on the salad was EXCELLENT. Very juicy and well-seasoned. My husband seemed to like the pirogues, but didn't act like they were anything special. Will go back, but am interested to re-try their items and see if freshness and taste/portions improve. read more
