Located in the heart of PSU's main campus, this lovely Middle Eastern themed food cart is something I think PSU students in particular should try. Most of their optional bs can come as plates or wraps, and they have sides like fries that can be topped with seasoning and feta cheese. Ordered: Chicken Shawarma Plate($7.50)-- Sliced chicken thigh seasoned with spices, served with onions, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, rice, and topped with three sauces. The chicken was super tender, with the spices really driving everything home. I dislike eating vegetables, but I readily ate them when I combined them with the rice and sauces. I was not super fond of this place. I ordered a garlic chicken plate and nothing about it seemed 'Mediterranean'. It was weirdly seasoned chicken over top of rice. It didn't even taste much like garlic. And there were a mixture of other odd flavors (seasonings) that didn't really go together. Something in the dish had a weird stale flavor. I think it was supposed to come with cucumbers and tomatoes (and maybe lettuce?), but instead was topped with pickles, tomatoes and onions?? Why pickles?? Meanwhile some bites almost smelled and tasted like apple sauce?? Too much cinnamon and nutmeg, maybe?? If my review seems confusing, imagine how confusing it was to eat it. Haha. Basha's has been at the PSU park blocks for a long time, offering a quick (I'm talking lightning) falafel to all the students buzzing by for $5.00. Today I noticed they may be skimping on their serving size, but it's still a decent portion. I always get the falafel "burrito style" which we nickname "Big Mac Falafel." It comes with lettuce, pickles, basmati rice and tahini sauce and is $6. They also have a hummus platter and chicken shawarma -- the usual. Their baklava sucks. read more

While $11 is on the high end for food carts, i will say that they give a lot of food. I ordered the basha's special plate with lamb. It came with rice, falafel, hummus, pita bread, and a little bit of cucumber and tomato. It was a big enough portion to split into 2 meals. read more

I'm scarfing down my falafel sandwich as we speak. Or as I inundate you with new information. The sandwich is quite tasty - the falafel has a good flavor without being overly crispy/oily/fried. Everything I've had from this cart is indeed quite tasty, and it IS fast. But $6 for a falafel sandwich with hummus? For what it is, I think they should charge less. SUPER convenient to my office (and all of PSU) and tasty, though. One of the few spots on/near campus with multiple vegan options. I'm short on wit for this one, as I'm long on hunger and very distracted by the tasty sandwich sitting in front of me. *It should be noted that I bumped this from three to four stars in the past two minutes. I don't think a restaurant (or cart) needs to make every item on their menu to suite my picky ass. I point that out because IMO the falafel is passable at best, however my boyfriend thinks its great and orders it often. What Basha's does incredibly well is their lentil soup and warm pita. My favorite thing to order is their chicken coco curry but all of the food is delicious and the most expensive items are still under $8. Family run and a genuinely awesome place to eat. Mediterranean cooking is new to me. I tried the garlic chicken plate and it was amazing. It's also came loaded with veggies and hummus and a side of bread. He price was around $8 for the plate which really isn't bad at all. There was no wait time but that's most likely because it's a Friday. The woman chef is incredibly nice. Okay, my first favorite thing about this is that it's literally right outside my front door. Proximity is good! There was no way those smells were going to keep wafting through my window without a visit. The feta salad was tasty - and a good-sized salad for the money. Lots of tart feta cheese, which I love. Gyros are one of my top 5 favorite foods. This was one of the worst gyros ever. Soggy bread, non-fresh greens, mushy/scrappy meat. Flavor and texture were reminiscent of cat food, as with the meat pie. Dough on spinach pie was good, and the filling was very sweet and more onion than spinach. I've gone to about five or so food card to eat gyro, but hands down this is the best one I've had. Meat is never dry/greasy, there is just enough sauce to add flavor, and service is fast and friendly. I stop by few times a month as a treat when I don't bring my own bento to fill my stomach before running back to study again. Very convinient for students at PSU. read more

I wasn't impressed by the vegetarian burrito that consisted of falafel, jasmine rice, lettuce, one slice of a tomato, and too small of an amount of sauce that was only on the very bottom of the burrito. This is for the cart at PSU but I'm very disappointed. I asked if they had lamb shawarma and she said yes so I ordered a lamb sandwich. I got gyro, not shawarma, which would be fine but their gyro meat is terrible. It tasted like beef, not lamb, and beef makes me ill which this sandwich did. It also tasted like preservatives and looked about the quality of McDonald's burger meat. Maybe I will give Basha's another try and stick to vegetarian items, but stay away from the gyro. read more

When I think of cheap great food, Basha's at PSU comes to mind. You cannot beat the kafta sandwich for $5.00 or the plate specials for $8.50, which is enuff for lunch --and-- dinner. The flavorful sauce on the kafta has a hint of lemon juice, and blends perfectly with the kafta mixture. Service is quick, friendly, and the food is fresh. I did my civic duty on Monday, and rode the bus downtown for jury duty. Having read my fair share of true crime novels, I was excited to finally be able to take at least a day off of the usual humdrum (uh, I mean excitement...)of my job, to serve the public interest and get paid for it. So, when the generous hour and a half lunch period came around, I headed for the carts. I was looking for the famous Chaat House, which I know I had passed several times while driving downtown. I trolled around the cart blocks over and over, and could not seem to find it. So, I decided, after my fourth pass around the block(s) to just try something else. I settled on a Gyro from Basha's. It was mighty good, and mighty fast, and very garlicky. The one thing that shaved off another star: a piece of bony gristle in my chicken gyro. Any kind of bone (and I always get one) just ruins my meal and sends me gagging. It was delicious up to that moment though. I should have got the falafel, but I had just bought the giant twin pack of falafels at Costco, and had those waiting at home. read more

Hey, don't get mad if you try anything other than the falafel sandwich and are not satisfied as that's all that I've eaten at this cart. I can't stand to try anything else because the falafel is that good! Pick up a few extra napkins for your mitts because they're messy, but these falafels are great, and, unlike others that have reviewed them, it's a decent sized sandwich for the six bucks.
