I wanted to like this place because of the fried chicken and brisket. I want to be fair because I don't like giving bad reviews. So I'll start off by saying I didn't return my brisket.. it was so salty I couldn't finish it all. I went with several other friends and they all had good things to say about their dishes. The potato salad was great! I had a bite of my friend's fried chicken thigh and it was also great. The atmosphere was a good vibe. I think they try and get away with sending meals out on delivery that they know would be sent back and refused if ordered at the restaurant itself. Absolute RIP-OFF! Pictured is a "half pound of brisket" for $23.00 and 60%-70% of it is just inedible fat! What was edible (3.4 ounces), was honestly disgusting and looks nothing like the photos they show online, as you can see for yourself. $11.00 for a cup of sour smelling banana pudding that was immediately tossed in the trash. $4.00 for a "chicken breast" that was literally 2 bites... This is the second and last time we will ever order from them again. I have never been more disappointed in an order of food in my entire life. We spent over $70 for the brisket as shown, a small salad with 2 bites of chicken, soggy coleslaw and sour banana pudding. Beyond unacceptable! Never again and truly hope this saves someone else from the disappointment that Reverend's BBQ truly is. Complete waste of money! Edit: It has been about 45 minutes since I ate what little of the brisket that was actually meat and not just fat, and I am extremely nauseous. Not worth the money, disappointment or naseau. Our party of 4 was seated at a cozy table near the bar. We ordered Old School Smash Burgers- L.M ground beef, house cheese blend, bread & butter pickles secret sauce, butter-griddled white bread. I loved this old school burger the smash patty was cooked perfectly resulting in a lacy, juicy and cheesy burger. The white bread is the perfect vessel to hold it all together. Simple and delicious. Happy Wedge salad - Iceberg Lettuce, LM Bacon, Shaved Radish, crispy Onions & Blue Cheese Dressing. Classic wedge salad the crispy onions and delicious bacon sets it apart from all others. Carolina Clamshell -Butter griddled white bread served open-faced with chopped pork shoulder, coleslaw and Carolins Gold sauce. This little gem was an unexpected surprise. But, for by-the-pound Beef Brisket and Boneless Fried Chicken Breasts , while I didn't weigh the order (so can't really allege it was light) it was a shockingly small amount of food for a very expensive price. Friends suspect it's because we ordered (on Doordash) too close to closing time. Regardless, good for favor but not so much for value. read more

I don't know how I'd never come here before as it's been in my bookmarks for ages. I happened to be coming by and saw it was not only open but also happy hour. All the staff were friendly, and the place was super cozy. I liked they had some bottles of bbq sauce you could use as well as Crystal's and a whole roll of paper towels. They also have a very diverse tap list which I appreciated. I got the HH relish tray, Carolina Clamshell, and one rib for good measure. Everything was sooo tasty! I am a big lover of tangy BBQ, and this definitely brought the bright acidity I wanted. I was tempted to get more but was on a further journey for the day. Definitely my favorite place in town now! the pulled pork was great. the sides were good too - polenta corn (my favorite), mac and cheese (potato chip crumble on top), beans (with good chunks of meat), and seasoned French Fries (my kids favorite). we had slight issue with our Brisket but they were great about fixing the problem and we appreciate their customer service. read more

Evening out with my crew! After a small wait we were seated. The atmosphere is inviting with lots of chatter. The team works hard to clear and rotate the tables to keep the waiting list flowing. Once seated our food did not take long to make it to our table. Overall the brisket was perfectly balanced with a little dip in the spicy sauce. Topped with a side of collard greens and mac. Arrived on a Fri during Happy Hour and sat at the bar. The bartender was really nice and accommodating, in that she poured me a beer tasting flight, even though it wasn't on the menu. My friend and I ordered off both the HH menu and the reg menu. From the HH menu, we shared the deviled eggs w burnt ends, which I highly recommend. I then got just a $3 single St. Louis-Style Smoked Pork Rib (which came out as 1.5 ribs! YAY) and a crunchy Fried Chicken Slider on a butter toasted bun. The buttery bun is unique and that slider was my fave thing of all. I then got the Reverend burger with the mac n cheese from the reg menu. The burger was an excellent umami bomb, but the creamy mac n cheese with crunchy chips stood out even more (probably my 2nd fave thing, tied w the deviled eggs). I wouldn't recommend going on a Wednesday in the middle of the day. The worst ribs I've ever had like beef jerky status, and they had the weirdest tasting sauce. Their side of Mac n' cheese with the stale potato chips tasted like garbage. They didn't even bother to toast the bread or even put seasoning on it they just gave me a half dozen of plain white bread that tasted like dead toenails. Sweet, smokey and delicious--plus i love the big over-sized booths. This is a go-celebratory place (went for a birthday), but they also have a super happy hour for any day of the week. We wanted to try a different BBQ place just to see and TBH, this place kind of got me with their banana pudding. In fact, it's a must with every order and I will not share. It was so good. The first time we ordered a big shareable tray and not only was it fully loaded, but tasted great. Enough food for a couple days to be certain. I love deviled eggs, but I love them more with tasty brisket. We've enjoyed the variety of sides they have to choose from as well and love the crispy top on the mac n cheese. Their burgers are also super tasty. BBQ is kind of pricey in general but this is no more expensive than others and the portions are plentiful. They have lots of sauces to suite a variety of tastes. It was Father's Day and it was very busy. We went an hour before we were meeting up with our son and his fiancé and put our name in. We then took a nice walk around the neighborhood. When we came back, our table still wasn't ready and we waited next-door for about 15 minutes longer and enjoyed a beer there. I think our waitresses name was Cynthia and she was fabulous. We started off with the deviled eggs, which were delicious. We had the big house salad, which was also amazing. Then the platter came with the two sides. There were four of us and there was still leftovers. Everything was exceptional except the mac & cheese to me wasn't anything special. I think getting the big meat platter is a great deal . My friends and I picked up takeout from Reverend's on my last night in Portland. The server was kind and made sure we had everything we needed to take home with us. The place smelled fantastic when I was waiting to pick up the food. We had the chopped pork sandwich and the fried chicken plate, mac and cheese and collard greens and the potato salad and banana pudding for dessert. My chopped pork sandwich was awesome and i'm picky about meat. The flavor was excellent and the meat was well cooked and cut. I enjoyed the slaw and even the zucchini pickles. It tasted almost like grocery store hot food mac and cheese? there was like no cheese in it. definitely not bbq appropriate. the potato salad was good and my friend enjoyed their collard greens. the. fried chicken plate didn't blow my mind. not a ton of flavor i thought. I wanted this restaurant to be good so bad... I was excited once I finally got it. I ordered it through Uber Eats and it took awhile to get to me. Granted I do live pretty far from the restaurant. I got the rib plate with 4 extra ribs, side of collard greens and baked beans. I then ordered a side of mac&cheese, potatoe salad, deviled eggs, smoked chicken wings, and the banana pudding. Everything lacked flavor all together. It was extremely basic in taste; the ribs were a little too smokey and barely any sauce on it. The sauce had a strange taste to it. It's almost like there was zero sugar in anything. And also barely any salt. The chicken wings were the only item that had some sweetness to it and tasted somewhat good. And the banana pudding was pretty good. The deviled eggs could have been better if they added some sugar and did not put the brisket on top. The brisket was so hard. Now the little relish on the side was the best thing in there. So good, it had that sweetness I was searching for in almost everything. Now I'm not saying an overpowering sugary taste, but sugar is good in a lot of foods to balance out flavor. And also other seasonings. I spent about $75 on this order and I love trying food or trying new food. I have 3 children, so we usually need bigger meals. None of my children were interested in this food and felt the same way. It's a cute restaurant and I was there between lunch and dinner, so it was relatively slow and quiet when I stopped in. The hostess was friendly and provided me with a menu to look over to place my order. The restaurant was clean and inviting. It had a cute ambiance and a BBQ vibe. When I got home I have to say I was disappointed both with the price, quantity but mostly the quality of the food. My husband and I love BBQ and travel across the US trying out BBQ joints as well cook much of our own. I ordered a rib / chicken combo. It came with three ribs and one piece of fried chicken, a small piece, collard greens and mac-n-cheese side. None of the food had much flavor. Food is delish, staff are friendly, and vibes are great (we sat outside on the patio in a warm summer evening). For the vegans - the collard greens are the only item that are definitely vegan, the tempeh is nearly vegan but the bbq sauce they're cooked in contains honey (call me a bad vegan), and I took a chance on the fries which the server told us he couldn't confirm were vegan, but said the bag they come in specifically says "contains wheat" on it. All said, I was pleasantly surprised and my fiance loved his meat meal. I know they're not catering to the vegans, but would LOVE to see a solid vegan tempeh sandwich option with vegan Cole slaw or vegan Mac and cheese, even just lettuce and tomato.
