This place is located inside the food truck court. We walked here when we couldn't decide what to eat for dinner and figured we would have options at this spot. Once there, I wanted a falafel and there are a few spots that offer falafels at this location. Small Pharoah's looked good so I gave it a try. So glad I did! I initially wanted the falafel wrap but the gentleman working persuaded me to get the falafel gyro instead. Honestly it was so loud with the live band that I couldn't quite hear why he suggested that falafel option but again, I am glad I listened to him! I did have to wait over 15 minutes for my order but I didn't really mind and again, totally worth the wait. The falafel itself was tasty and flavorful and not dry at all and it was loaded with lettuce, pickles, and topped w feta cheese. I was very impressed with the taste and devoured my meal quickly. A review ten years in the making... the lamb gyro here absolutely fucks! Small Pharoah's is one of the first food cart gems I found when I moved here ten years ago and after going for the first time in awhile, I'm happy to report it's still going strong. While the lamb gyro is no longer a you-had-to-see-it-to-believe-it $5, it's still good value for money (I think it is $8-10 now). The meat is incredibly tender and it's loaded down with mix of grilled, pickled and fresh veggies, and then thoroughly sauced. Plus it's a hefty size; if you're not a big eater you could easily make two meals out of it. Long live the Pharoah! read more

This was one of the very first food carts I've tried when i visited PDX 5 years ago. When I first had it, my impression was "woah, for $5, you can get this delicious lamb gyro the size of your face!" Granted, I did not finish the whole thing by myself, despite how many more bites I want to indulge. I went back to it recently, especially how it's one of the places that opened late. Huge convenience factor there. So 5 years later, prices had increased, packaging was different (instead of just a paper plate, it's now wrapped up in foil), but it's still a sizable meal though. It's still a big messy meal, but it's easier to take it to go or just to save up the leftovers. Not recommending as a meal right before bed, that full stomach is going to keep you awake the whole entire night. Service was hit or miss. 5 years ago, there was a line but food came out quick. Excited to try this place especially as it's halal. We got the beef gyro which was ready in about 10 minutes. The sandwich is GIGANTIC and loaded with lots of beef, veggies, tzaziki and hummus. Sadly that's about the best part. The cut of beef used had very chewy tendon pieces in it making it not super enjoyable to eat. Flavor wise, the meat didn't bring much to the table and it was more so the sauces (which it had plenty of) that carried the gyro. Seriously more than enough for 2-3 people easy. There is side seating right by the pickup window. The fries come with ketchup for dipping and if you wanted extra salt be sure to ask. When asked about it, I was told it's "an old menu" so I guess they've doubled the price without telling anyone, or maybe just charge you whatever they think they can get away with. The salad was definitely not worth $15. When I got my salad, it was just shredded lettuce and tomato with no dressing. The lettuce was wilted and turning brown. The tomato looked like a tomato but had no taste, very low quality. They looked like veggies that could have come off a big mac. Coming from Southern California we're used to top-notch street food and we were happy to find such excellent eats while doing the tourist thing in Portland. It was great to see that they don't skimp on their servings at Small Pharoah's; my wife and I could've easily shared one of our chicken gyros. Each was packed with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and the magical garlic sauce. Nice touch with the added pepperoncini, too. Not only is the owner for whatever reason, a trump supporter (like I get it, you're angry because business is dead from the protests, but that's not any reason to support such a toxic person) but I digress. I ordered food anyway despite this fact because I wanted to try something different from the spot I usually get it from, and they're relatively inexpensive in comparison to a lot of places around town: however this is reflected in the food. The food is bad. It's, edible? But it wasn't good at all to me and I didn't want to continue eating. The falafel was super super dry and bland and I didn't want to keep eating it because it was so unpleasant to put into my mouth. Like I'm just being honest here, it wasn't great to eat. It was very grainy, dry and burnt. The tahini (or whatever sauce they used) was pretty... meh. Not strong in flavor to me. I get Mediterranean food because I want flavor but it was just really not good to me and I'm surprised because they have a lot of positive reviews and I've sworn I've possibly tried this place before in the past and it was better, but I don't remember. Ok so I legit drove from Sacramento to try this place and I did NOT leave disappointed. The only disappointment that i had was we dont have a small pharoah's in sacramento. My husband and I both had their gyro with lamb and the food was on point. You could taste the garlic and the spiciness but then had the cool refreshing cucumber in the background. Food pod that is opened 24/7, yes pls! First day in Porland, we got in around 1pm had a such late lunch and napped, that my whole schedule was whacked. Thankfully waking up at 9pm from a nap, and being located at a hotel downtown, Small Pharoah was walkable and opened 24/7. Lamb gyro looked and sounded too good to pass up, and for $5 only (no tax! In fact I was so surprised at how good it tasted I'm very curious how they made it taste and smell so much better than typical street vendor food / comfort food! Good service, nice lady, ginger beer was a brand I've never tried before and it was delicious as well. They hit all the marks when I expected the food to be mediocre. I've had some really bad gyros in Portland haha but this one tasted amazing and was sort of unique - large chunks of meat instead of the typical meat cone shavings.
