Food and service are outstanding. The selection is fantastic as well. My only reason for giving 4 stars rather than 5 is because of the pricing. Basil Bandwagon is overpriced for their deli and many of the items they carry. At the same time it is very good quality stuff, just pricing is my only "complaint" so to say. I realize this is a very wealthy area, and Basil Bandwagon does put out some coupons here and there which is appreciated. It is certainly more of A $$$ store than $$ in which I think they would still be profitable, yet a bit more fair. In any circumstance if you're looking for good quality, very healthy stuff it is a great spot to try out. Also the portions on most things at the deli counter are very nice with their sandwiches. On my most recent visit to my hometown of Flemington, I took a trip to Basil Bandwagon to grab something healthy (and vegan) for our long flight home back to the West coast. I learned that Basil Bandwagon has been open for 25 years. The year they opened, I was eating cold Pop Tarts while running to catch the school bus at 6:55am. In those days, fat-free was all the rage and considered "healthy" -- never mind all the refined carbs, loads of sugar, and preservatives. These days, I'm a strict vegetarian who is mostly vegan. I cook a lot and eat fresh produce daily. I appreciate that BB offers a healthy alternative to basically all the crap fast food otherwise available in the area. We ordered a wrap from the cafe and decided to eat it there. The seating was a counter with a few bar stools but it was clean if not spacious. My husband and I shared the "Freebird" wrap -- tofu-based mock chicken, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, and vegan mayo. It came with potato chips. Wow, this was so good! Clean tasting, hearty, and delicious. I was so impressed with it that we grabbed a prepackaged wrap from the cold case to take on the plane with us. We also picked up a few other vegan sandwiches which were okay tasting but overall too dense and heavy. Next time, I'll stick with the housemade items. I do find it a little annoying that BB doesn't seem to carry as many vegan items as they do things that are "paleo" and gluten-free. I also find that some of their food items are so outrageously overpriced that you'd be better off hunting around at the local grocery stores instead of purchasing them here. The next time I'm in town, I'll be there to order another yummy item from the cafe. I only popped in for a quick trip the other day when I needed something for a recipe I was almost certain I wouldn't find at my normal grocery store. I asked one of the employees if they had ghee and he was SO amazingly helpful! Not only took me to the shelf where I could find it but then chatted with me for a bit about all of its benefits and all the different ways I could use it. There were a few other things I needed and he took the time to help me find them throughout the store. They have everything from fresh juices to fair trade jewelry here. It is a bit hidden off of 202 but there is plenty of parking and never the normal parking lot madness that comes along with a huge box store. The prices might be a little steep but they have an amazing selection for people that are gluten free, vegan, and everything is organic. I poked around and the prices on the dairy looked good and they had a big selection of Organic Valley, which I love. I used to love this place, but an in store experience has stopped me from returning. Over the summer I was here at the make to order counter. I asked a question to the female employee about how a certain modification to a wrap would affect the cost of the wrap I was planning to get. I just wanted to swap out one ingredient. She looked at me like I was an absolute lunatic, rolled her eyes, and blurted out "I don't know! I don't make the prices." She was extremely condescending and made me feel less than for even thinking to ask her such a question. It was so rude, and I was treated so poorly as a customer that I won't ever return. I have told many others about this experience because it was one of the rudest encounters I've ever had as a guest at an establishment. read more

Randomly stopped here on a business trip from Cali and OH EM GEE! The vegan BLT (TLT - tempeh) is absolutely incredible. The wrap is absolutely delicious. After the first bite I knew I was going to order another one to go. Flavorful, filling and the service was incredibly quick. This rivals some of the best vegan sandwiches in LA and might possibly be my favorite TLT of all time. On top of that, they have an incredible selection of organic food and by-the-pound offerings. One of my favorite stores in Flemington! They have a monthly flyer (paper or online) with their specials. They have fresh produce, vitamins, personal items, incense & oils, cleaning products, pet food, frozen food, etc. I've recently given up artificial sweeteners and I buy my Zevia drinks there. The employees are very helpful and friendly. They also have free magazines and samples at the registers. read more

My boyfriend always talks about this place and I finally got to go with him the other day. It's a nice small super market for organic shoppers and they have a nice section for vegan/vegetarian foods. It's clean and easy to find items. They have a small cafe in the back with lots of good choices, some of it does seem pricey but for the healthy aspects I am sure it is worth it and taste great. They also have a section with pre made foods that you can take for on the go. I didn't order anything because I wasn't too hungry but he enjoyed it and always seems to like what they have. read more

Went to Basil Bandwagon while in Flemington for a baseball tournament. Was trying to get something healthy for in between games so I was in a little bit of a rush. The counter person was just finishing up with a customer and there was no one else there so I asked for a juice. She barely acknowledged me then asked a customer behind me who had just walked up what she could get for her. This customer ordered a salad from the case which had to be put in a container and weighed. Then she turned back to me and said she had to make some wraps before she could make my juice. I said I was in a rush so I'd just take a salad from the case also. She said she'd still have to make the wraps first. I said you've already helped someone that was behind me and all I want was a salad too. She sighed heavily and asked me what I wanted. . I really wanted to leave because at this point she was being extremely rude but I didn't have time to go elsewhere. She hastily shoved the quinoa salad into a container with her gloves hands no utensil and I went on my way to the front to pay. I didn't see any forks by the deli but assumed they were at the register. I paid with the very nice cashier but yes you guessed it had to go back to the deli to get a fork. I asked the same person behind the counter for a fork. She had to finish with the wraps she was making and then go to the counter take the next persons order BEFORE getting my forks. I don't know what her problem was with me. I guess she was having a bad day and maybe someone was supposed to be helping her. I did let her know at this point that she was extremely rude and she told me that I was rude and didn't care about other customers even though I was the only customer there when I first ordered my juice. I have never been treated so badly before in an upscale expensive market. I was certainly not rude when I placed my first order. I do have a strong New York accent so I don't know if that was the problem anyway I was with the whole team parents and we come to Diamond Nation often and I would never recommend this place to anyone !!! They have brands like Thorne supplements and Restore for Glyphosate AND they're the same price as online, so might as well support local! I have always liked Basil Bandwagon, but I have never gotten worse customer service than I did at the smoothie counter. I came in with some of my girlfriends and ordered the Tropical smoothie with a substitute of almond milk instead of coconut milk, but the middle-aged blue-haired woman working the counter made me the chocolate smoothie and insisted it was mine. Then, she did the exact same thing to my friend, this time with a blueberry drink (which was not what she had ordered either). She continued to aggressively insist that we were wrong and she was right. I tried politely & very clearly correcting her MULTIPLE times that I had ordered the Tropical and the only change I wanted in the drink was the coconut milk, but she kept ordering the smoothie maker to do things like "remove the pineapple juice" and "no bananas", all while getting unnecessarily angry at me. After FINALLY receiving the correct order, I looked at my receipt and realized that I had been charged for things that I did not include in my order. I work in food business, so I know the number one rule is to repeat the order back to the customer to confirm before charging, which was failed to be understood. At this point, I just wanted to leave, so I notified them of the mistake, but told them that if it's too much of a hassle to refund the incorrect add-ons I'll just leave it as is. The blue-haired woman took my receipt and told me that she had to get the manager to refund my purchase. Unfortunately, the manager was in a meeting, which added even more fuel to the fire. She then grabbed the money out of the tip jar, and slammed it down on the counter in front of me. I'm absolutely never coming back, I have never received such blatant disrespect from an employee in my life. read more

I am a 3x per week customer, that will end today. I have avoided going to Whole Foods or Costco, they happen to have amazing produce at 50% less. I like the convenience and the knowledge of most of your staff. The fact that you charge $15.96 for Justin's Almond Butter (16 OZ.) is completely price gouging and taking advantage of your customers. Forget the fact it is $9.99 on Amazon, I just bought some at Walgreen's of all places for $9.99! Maybe I dont know your business and 50%+ margins is the norm, not for me. read more

When we lived in the area, Basil's was my go-to place for all things organic, local and of good quality. Now I visit very occasionally and have to say that it's more of a mixed bag. I still find fresh hummus, tofu, cheese and local meat, the produce and grocery are decent, but the prepared foods are hit or miss, more miss lately. Good chicken breast, kale-quinoa salad with undercooked butternut and practically raw carrots and parsnips, kale pieces the size of Texas. Good cupcakes, absolutely lousy burgers and falafel-dried out, hard and devoid of seasoning. The prices are a tad steep for what you get. Might be less worth seeking it out as time goes by. read more

We showed up famished and enjoyed two delicious hot sandwiches (tempeh reuben and taco salad wrap) and some other snacks and drinks. Obviously, organic natural foods are more expensive than conventional or processed, but I'd buy a $5 good-for-you coconut water over a $5 sugar-and-ice at Starbucks any day. Been going to Basil for a long time! Most of the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The produce is awesome. Great selection of vegetarian/vegan items and alternatives for those transitioning to any form of health off of the standard american diet. Tons of supplements, vitamins, oils, all-natural cosmetics, bath/body products. If you shopped here alone, you'd be doing wonders for the green movement, though it definitely costs a pretty penny! read more

We actually travel 30 minutes at least once a week to shop at The Wagon. They have a great selection, and especially in season have good local organic produce. The deli is very good - particularly the baked goods. Our only complaint is that there never seem to be enough! Suggestion: have the baker bake full-time and keep us always supplied with amazing cupcakes and out of this world vegan brownies! And invest in some of those lovely display dishes with lids instead of having the baked goods exposed to the world! But one of the biggest draws to us are the people who work there - friendly, helpful and they all seem to truly enjoy being there. read more

The Basil Bandwagon staff is polite and helpful and they have a fairly good selection of organic foods, vitamins, and beauty and health products. The quality of the produce is good but there is one big caveat about shopping here. You must read expiration dates. Too many times when in a hurry I have picked up something quickly and gotten home and found the produce, yoghurt or milk expired in one or two days. It is legal to sell but a rip off for the consumer especially at these prices which are high. It makes one wonder how old some of the products are behind the prepared food counter. read more
