Awesome Thai food. Service was excellent for Saturday night around 7:30pm, and our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful about the menu, and Gluten Free options and suggestions. We started out with 2 appetizers, Thai Chicken Wings and Fresh Basil Rolls. Then we split the Tom Kha Gai Soup (chicken coconut) which was delicious, and very fresh. Could have stopped there but we got two entrees as we didn't know how big portions were. She had the Pad Thai, and I got the Prik King (very spicey, they were not shy on the heat). The atmosphere was nice and not to loud. Just perfect for a date night. Casual and not too dressed up kind of place. Only 4 stars due to a couple of mistakes by the waitress, drink not placed, and brown rice vs white but everyone makes mistakes and she recovered well. ate here once years ago after my sister's graduation with my family. Don't remember how good it was but I knew I'd be in the area so I ordered some green curry to go because their curry selection isn't vast but I love green curry and absolutely love Thai food. The menu on yelp is for lunch I presume because when I placed my order the lady said it would be $17.55. The lunch menu says it's $10.95 which is the original reason why I was gonna eat here and get my boyfriend to order something too but I'm glad I didn't. Picked the food up 20 mins later and it was a lot smaller than I was expecting especially for dinner portion size. The curry isn't thick and on the more watery side. The taste is your average curry dish. Was expecting more for such a high price point but apparently the restaurant is more high end so I guess it makes sense but if you're a broke college kid and craving Thai I'd find somewhere cheaper. read more

The Pad Thai was a real disappointment. No taste of tamarind or palm sugar. Dry and over cooked soggy angle hair type pasta. Pad That requires a broad rice noodle. The sauce on the barramundi was good, the fish thin, over fried and dry. The others two entries were uninteresting as well. The rice was gluey, almost like a Chinese sticky rice and not a hint of Jasmine. Have been waiting years to try out Basil Thai, after they first opened we moved out of state and never had a chance to check it out until our visit in February. There is plenty of parking since the restaurant is located inside of a strip mall. The restaurant interior is nicely decorated with tables and booths on both sides of the restaurant with the kitchen sort of nestled in the middle. The staff were attentive. The food was really good. The salmon was really good and the sauce amazing! My daughter loved her Pad Thai and my mom enjoyed her food, as well. A family friend is one of the cooks but she wasn't here on the night we dined. The portions are small. I ordered takeout today and the noodles were disgusting. I had Pad Kee Mow and the flavor was lacking. I haven't been in a while, but it seems that the quality has gotten worse. Also while picking up my food I had to ask about the Thai tea or they would have forgotten. I ate at Basil last night, at a time when it was not particularly busy. The food was good but the service left a great deal to be desired. I waited at the hostess station to be seated while she was on the phone taking an order. Finally a young woman walked over and asked me if I was picking up an order. When I told her I was waiting to be seated she seemed surprised. At first she tried to seat me against a wall and next to a large party. I asked for another seat. As she scanned the restaurant she finally seated me. My server was friendly and polite but failed to explain the heat level of the three sauces on the table or even refer to them at all. She delivered my rice to the table long before the vegetables it was to accompany arrived. Clearly, a training of new staff is lacking in a restaurant whose charges are high for this type of food in this type of location (a strip shopping center). I won't be back. read more

We were tricked! Our server greeted us so efficiently and well that we thought she would take care of us, she did not. Maybe her name was Lisa, but also, maybe not; I can't completely recall. After reviewing our menus, the queen of my forever castle (my mother) ordered our appetizers. She was quite clear on what we wanted. A certain number of shrimp basil rolls and a certain number of veggie basil rolls. The server repeated the order back to us. My brother and I are also lushes, so we both ordered adult drinks. We waited, waited and waited. Our drinks were ready at the bar, but our server was talking to her friends at a different table. So, I asked another staff member to check on our food and I grabbed our drinks from the bar. When the other server delivered our appetizers it was missing an order. We figured it just wasn't ready yet. When our server FINALLY checked on us, she said we had not told her we wanted an additional order. 'Insert eye roll'...She placed the order immediately and we waited. In the meantime, she offered us a free order of Pho that had been accidentally ordered or made. We accepted, but after bringing a spoonful up to our mouths, the food smelled like dog food, so we didn't eat it. We got our last appetizer order and waited for our entrees. The veggie and shrimp basil rolls that we had for our appetizers were okay, however without the peanut dipping sauce, they were just plain and tasteless. However, the contrast of the soft exterior with the crunchy exterior was delightful. Sadly, I wouldn't order these again. For my entree I got the basil chicken and shrimp which comes with basil, bell peppers, onions and garlic. This meal was delicious! Lots of yummy, crunchy vegetables and everything was well seasoned. My hubby got the vegetable delight with chicken and he also liked his meal. The food was delicious! Did I tell you that we (my brother and I) ordered a second round of drinks and yet again, our server was chatting with her friends, so I picked them up from the bar. I wish there was more of a kick of spice so I could taste red chili peppers in the sauce. I do also wish I had more lime provided - they only provided a quarter wedge. This restaurant is Thai food done right! One peak inside and it looks like an upscale modern restaurant out of downtown. This is one of my favorite Thai places in Columbia besides Mai Thai. Another sign that they're upscale is that it's next to a Wholefoods Market and an Ultra Cosmetic Store. They have a large parking lot and outdoor seating available. My friend and I came here for my birthday dinner around 7 last night. They weren't busy so we got a good parking spot in front and got seated quickly in a table. For drinks, we always order their Thai Iced Tea with light ice and a water. I would recommend it for people who like sweet southern iced tea and creamy, milky drinks. For appetizers, we got the Tom Kha Gai, which is the chicken coconut soup. It's enough for two people to share and it comes out really flashy. The waitress brings it out in a huge pan that has a live fire in the middle so the pyro in me loves ordering this. For entrees, I got the Yum Ped, which is the duck salad, and my friend got the Chicken Cashew Nuts. Our food came out in 15 minutes tasting hot and fresh. My duck salad tasted really delicious and zesty. It came with lettuce wrap so I used my fork to scoop up the duck salad into each individual lettuce wrap like a mini taco. My friend also loved her Chicken Cashew Nuts, which she orders every time. If you ask, they bring out this spice rake that has Sriracha, hot peppers, and lastly spicy pepper powder. I'm a hot sauce maniac with a high tolerance, but I was nearly crying after trying the pepper powder which is some really potent stuff. Our server was very attentive and filled up my water quickly after I would chug it after eating too much of the hot sauce. Overall, I really recommend this place! Their dinner menu is a little pricey as most things are over $14, but I think their lunch menu prices are fair. With their top notch service and modern design, this would be a good place to bring a date or celebrate a special event with friends. Very upscale and pleasant surroundings Great place for a date or your significant other. I got the cashew nut with tofu medium spice. The spice was mild when it came. But the taste was spectacular and I could adjust the heat with the incredible spice tray. The tofu is firm and almost leathery (in a good way) on the outside and a little chewy. The taste is amazing. Some of the best I have ever had. This chef can cook. The rice was very good and tasty as well and the lemons for my water were very fresh. Our server was also sweet and accommodating for our group of 8. We got the appetizer platter which was nice because we could sample several appetizers. The BEST thing of the night were the wontons! I've had a lot of wontons but these were fantastic. I wished that was my main dish. I ordered Pad Thai for my entree. For takeout, they never provide enough of the side/dipping sauces it when dining in of course there is no issue. While on the road home from Orlando back to NC we realized that we were about 90mins away from home and it was already 6pm and we needed dinner so I Yelped to see what was I route and since I'm familiar with Basil from Charlotte (UpTown location is my Fav in Charlotte) we decided to check this location out. Welll I'm sure you know that didn't happen. We ended up with our main course 20mins before the appetizer came out which we sent back as an appetizer is to come before the meal. We also had to chase the waitress into the kitchen to obtain our check. The food was MEH?! My tofu was extremely over cooked. BUT WAIT the worst part of this visit was the fact that my food came out cold and I informed the waitress and said said "I'll have been retoss it in the Wok".. I was puzzled and so was my husband so we couldn't say anything fast enough before she disappeared into the kitchen. We spoke amongst ourselves and was sure that they wouldn't take food back to the kitchen that I touched and re-add it to a wok. Wellll again I'm sure you know how that ended, The touched food including the piece of tofu I bit and put back on the plate came back piping HOT fresh from the Wok. What a wonderful date night. We waited 5-7 minutes for a table. Had fast service from a manager for our drinks while our server was helping another table. The manager happily checked on an appetizer (Larb) to make sure it fit our dietary restriction of no dairy. My bf ordered the crispy duck red curry and I ordered vegetable delight with fried tofu. I've ordered from here frequently and typically I never have in your problems, although the staff isn't always the most welcoming, however I ordered something and wish us at 20 to 35 minutes, I didn't get there until 30 minutes later, and then I had to wait 30 minutes essentially until the food came out, then another 10 minutes before they gave it to me essentially. No one spoke to me really, the lady who was supposed to be there for checkout, she didn't even look behind her, didn't talk to me, they were as cold and distant and off putting as you could be. I am a firm believer that I will not spend my money at places I am not welcomed or treated right, I wasn't treated properly here, I want nothing to do at this place, and that's just not how you run business. read more

Basil Thai. I've heard they're a chain restaurant, and I've also heard even more mixed reviews. My first time visiting, they were closed. I didn't realize their hours were a little odd. They're open from 11:30-2 and then from 5-9:30. The second time we visited, we awkwardly walked in and waited to be seated. The interior was very nice and clean. When we were seated, I was impressed with the seating arrangements and how open and free flowing it was. I noticed there was a bar and dining area, which you don't often find in Thai restaurants; at least none that I've been to. The strange thing was, I ordered their Pad Thai, which is always the first thing I try at any Thai Restaurant, and at first glance, was sourly disappointed. For one, they don't use the correct noodles. I know what you're thinking, it may just be their representation of Pad Thai noodles, and that's fine and dandy but it's not my personal preference. I guess I was disappointed because it's a chain restaurant and you want people to experience the real thing rather than a washed up version of it. When actually tasting it, I was VERY surprised in the flavor they were actually able to incorporate in it, especially since they don't use the authentic noodles. They were able to capture the taste of the dish so they earned back points with me. We also ordered the Tom Sum or Papaya Salad, and the serving size was so skimpy. The flavor base was average so it wasn't amazing. The service wasn't very attentive, since I had to waive down our server to ask for water and straws multiple times, and it wasn't busy at all. The biggest downfall of this restaurant was the prices. I was appalled that they were charging almost twice the price for dishes and giving half the portions you would normally expect from the typical Thai restaurant.
