Basin 141 is a fun bar! A bar's bar, if you will. We stopped in for a nightcap, however they do appear to have an excellent menu of gastropub faire. (I'll be back to sample the buffalo cauliflower!!) My wife and I are huge fans of Basin 141. We love sitting outside on the street patio. The servers are always friendly, drink menu is interesting, and the pub food is great! We went last Friday a bit late, and service was very off. We were seated outside, and then ignored for about 15 minutes. A server finally came out to take our order, and she looked frazzled. We then waited a bit too long for our orders to arrive. My tacos came out but my wife's order was nowhere to be seen. We waited another 10 minutes before my wife went inside and asked why her simple bowl of chicken tortilla soup was taking so long (at this point probably 20 minutes for soup!!). Finally, along came Merlin, a server who we have never had in the past. She went to the kitchen and checked that the soup was coming. When she came back, she apologized profusely for the poor experience we had up until this point, and also ran down the elusive side of beans that were supposed to come with my tacos. My wife's soup finally arrived, along with my side of beans, and Merlin comped our entire meal!!! Our food, as always, was fantastic. Something was obviously off with staffing ~ maybe they were short staffed. But Merlin made a disappointing evening into a great experience. Thank you Merlin for a great evening!! read more

I am not sure where to start... The service was one of the worst I've ever experienced. I waited for my food for close 25min in a not busy evening. Even after waiting, they got my order completely wrong. I wanted a burger but got a taco. I asked the waiter to fix which he did but it took another 20 min. Then we waited forever for two mojitos (about 40min). Asked a different waiter to check on our drinks and he finally brought them out. We also wanted some dessert. After waiting for 30min, we asked for check as we needed to go. When they brought the check, I asked them to take the cake out as we didn't receive it to which I was told it was right there (in the kitchen!!!) and it would take a minute. The food was ok. Not great but not bad either. The prices were ok too. However, I would not return back as when we walked out I witnessed a disgusting behavior from the blonde waitress. There were father and son standing on the sidewalk. She told them with a horrible attitude that they couldn't be there as the son was under age which is a big bs because they were standing on the sidewalk which is part of the city not their business. Even if she really had to say something, she could have said it in a nicer way. Instead she decided to basically yell and attack the family. The father was a bigger person and left as his son who was no older than 5 years old got a little upset after some miserable lady yelled at them. Very disappointing. Train your staff to do better!!!! Absolutely fantastic place for drinks and good. It's a little on the smaller side, so keep in mind for larger parties and such you might want to call ahead. The service was decent, I think our server was doubling as a bar-back so he wasn't 100% attentive. But honestly I'm still 5-starring this place because those are minor things and everything else was so perfect. The food was amazing, came out quickly, and the drinks were top notch, both beer and cocktails. The prices were also great for the quality and quantity of our food. Stopped in solo for Happy Hour at the bar. Great ambience here, friendly bartenders, enjoyed the house-made chicharrones served hot and crackled when I sprinkled lime juice on them. Nice beer selection, too: I had a Mexican style lager and a La Chouffe on tap, and I noticed a bottle of Hitachino Nest on the shelf. Great bar in the heart of Montrose! ------------------------ This place absolutely rocks! Came here after I got out of work early (how often does that happen?) Although I've lived in the area for 3 years, I have yet to fully explore the Honolulu Ave / Montrose One thing to note - the windows are tinted black to prevent glare; however, it makes the place look closed (they do have hours of operation on the door). Fortunately, they are open for lunch on Fridays. I got two brews and a burger with fries. I seriously wanted the nachos but was warned it was too much food (oh well, next time!) The angus burger was quite flavorful and juicy; the Hefeweizen and Belgian ales, refreshing. The shoestring fries were perfectly golden and crispy. What more can you ask for? Parking is either street parking or in the huge lot behind black cow cafe. read more

After bringing a small chocolate cake for our friend for his 55th birthday, the restaurant manager decided to assess a $20 "CAKE FEE" at the end of the night on our bill. This "CAKE FEE" was assessed unbeknownst to our waiter who provided excellent service the entire night but didn't have the opportunity to disclose the "CAKE FEE" to us. Our waiter was tipped generously and we even offered him a slice of the cake. Unfortunately,, even though we attempted to discuss the "CAKE FEE" with the manager he made it a point to ignore us as if we weren't even guests. It's a shame a communication faux pa by the manager could ruin such a special occasion. read more

The dog licked the hands that would have fed us. We stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night and everything started off well enough. The bartender was nice, gave us the option of sitting indoors or outside and took our drink orders immediately. We sat outside, and a few seconds later the waitress came out to chat with the table next to us and their little dog. They must have been friends, because she loved the dog...and the dog loved her. This was evident by the fact that the dog snuggled her when she crouched down next to him and he licked her hands, and she happily petted him. She then proceeded to pick up the glasses off the table with the same lucked upon hands and moments later stop by our table to see if we were ready to order. She seemed friendly and I wanted to unsee it, but couldn't get with that idea of pup-slobbered hands bringing out my fries. We passed and found another place down the street. read more

Such a cute location and great for a date night or a friend hang. A friend of mine who lives in the area took me here. It was nestled on the cutest street that was covered in twinkle lights and small shops. We were able to grab a table without a wait. Our server was very sweet and came with drinks pretty quickly. Everything on the menu looked great and I decided to order steak frites but sub frites for green beans. Food arrived pretty quickly from a food runner and everything was delicious and hot. Our server forgot to put our to go order in, but the chef turned it around pretty quickly. All in all a pretty good experience. Plenty of street parking or small lots around the street, and such a cute walkable location. I definitely want to head back over here! read more

We were in the neighborhood at Montrose Arts & Craft Fair which is actually held right in front of the place. We came in after our walk through that and from the parking lot in the back. You have to walk down a set of stairs so if you have an issue with stairs go in the front entrance. The place was very pub-like and almost all the seating was taken but a booth just opened up and the waitress said she would clean it up...she did and we sat down. One of the reviews said the place was loud, most bars are so I wasn't surprised that was true. Two guys (locals?...drunks?) were sitting at the bar, yell-talking to each other...it was too funny to watch so I took a video of it. The place has Happy Hour everyday from 3-6 which is great for me because we were here on Saturday. I first ordered an Old Fashion because I am partial to Bourbon and felt like something different, it was good and very traditionally made. My wife got the hefeweizen at the cost of $5.00 on the Happy Hour menu. She chose the potato taco and wasn't that hungry so she was okay with one, which was only $3.00. You have to love a woman who can order frugally. I got the chicken and waffle because who can resist that combination...come on...anyone? The chicken was in strips and lightly battered and crunchy, it was an excellent spicy flavor to accompany the slightly sweet flavor of the maple drizzled waffle. All in all good food and the staff was excellent. I would recommend and will try to visit again when in the area. read more

We happened upon Basin 141's Montrose location (they have a location in Monrovia as well) when we were at the Montrose art craft fair today. We are so happy to have found it and gave it a try. The ambiance and mood of the place is very tasteful and chill. It was apparent that the staff works hard, though effortless it seems, to make your experience an excellent one. The menu is meticulously crafted to offer delicious food and well made specialty drinks. They also have several craft beer choices on tap plus French Pressed coffee. Are you kidding me? We ordered the Pot Roast Hash and the Daybreak Sandwich. Both were delicious and so unique. I had. Bloody Mary which was only $8 on the brunch menu and my wife had the Midnight Mule which was a real tasty treat. One star for the staff that didn't let us to sit and have dinner since we didn't have an ID. We explained that we didn't wanna drink we just wanted to eat dinner and that was it but she said no we have to ID you. (We even offered to show a picture of our ID and I think we look old enough to not be asked for an ID) And the funny thing is that 3 people before us got seated without checking their IDs. I came through with a friend this past Sunday for a late lunch. The atmosphere and staff were great. The food was actually pretty good and I loved their Strawberry Fields cocktail. We had the salad, truffle macaroni cheese and I had the fish and chips. My friend had the street corn. As she ate it, she said it tasted a little chemically. Thankfully, I had no complaints about my food, at that time. Even took the rest in a box, intending to finish anihilating it at another meal. That takeaway box is now going in the bin, untouched. I have been dealing with gastric issues since within a couple hours after our visit. It's definitely gotten better, but my stomach is still being VERY vocal and I honestly can't stand the sight of even a bowl of cereal. Pity. The place seemed promising. read more

Headed to Basin 141 after visiting Descanso Gardens. It was just a couple miles down the street in the cute downtown area. The menu was great and included GF options. My husband had the giant pretzel which came with 3 sausages. The pretzel was huge, and had yummy queso and mustard for a side. I had the short rib braised tacos- corn tortilla and chips were definitely home made. The tacos were really good. Husband had a craft beer and I had a mango seltzer. This is my new favorite restaurant in the area. We've been before for happy hour but after having the incredible brunch we had I can confidently say I will keep running back. There is an abundance of outdoor seating on the street, and temperatures are checked upon arrival. I wasn't too impressed with the margaritas but there are plenty of cocktails to choose from that I want to try. Onto the food, SO good. We gave our server Mischa a hard time with our difficult orders but she handled it like a champ and we were all so happy! The eggs Benny and dulce de leche pancakes are a must. Visited 6/25/18 A friend suggested meeting for Happy Hour at this place and boy was I glad!! Loved it. The Happy Hour prices were amazingly reasonable and the choices on the menu for drinks and food were aplenty. Meeting at 4:30 on a Monday afternoon was great. Not to many people yet, so I was able to grab a table by the entrance. The interior of this place looked clean and inviting. You can either sit in a booth, a table by the windows, or at the bar. Totally enjoyed my $3 hard cider. Wanted to try something else or have another hard cider, but I already felt a buzz. Munched on the free almonds while waiting for the sweet potato fries. The fries was more than enough for the both of us to share. By the time it was 6 PM, the bar was definitely at capacity, and the noise level was definitely louder, but tolerable. I loved it so much, I'm definitely coming back so that I can try the other drinks/food. Plenty of free parking in one of the lots, or you can pay for metered street parking. read more

Drinks were good but they could surely benefit from using a single large ice cube or sphere for their signature drinks. Went to catch nfl on a Sunday I read the reviews. Had a signature drink. Was a pineapple base one. Too sweet for me. I despise champagne wide mouth glasses. I had my go to. Tito's and pineapple Juice. Always a good choice Ok. Tacos. Tried the pork belly Did not like the chipotle cream sauce that was ooooozed all over the tacos. Couldn't taste the meat The tortilla. I appreciate the effort I. Making homemade tortilla but try different masa. Maybe a yellow masa. I suspect they used maseca. It smelled humid. No flavor. Bland. Not even salt. So not having the tacos there anymore. Maybe if they change their masa I ordered a side of guacamole. Very limey. Tart. Needed less lime and more salt The tortilla chips were made I house. Appreciated. Lucky I like mine extra toasty because they were very toasty Salsa. Cmon. You've got tomatoes, jalapeño, onion and cilantro Put in in a blender. Add salt. Simple.
