Huge store with all the things you could imagine needing for the outdoor. There's a wide range of items there from fishing gear, shoes, snacks, to camping gear. For how large the store is, finding someone to help was a bit difficult. Christmas time is fun there. They have a Santa's workshop situation where you can get a free picture with Santa. Who doesn't love Santa? There is a walk up line and you can also make a reservation online to take a picture as well. read more

This is a big store, like the size of Costco big. The first thing I was impressed with was that they offer motorized carts for those with mobility challenges. This is an outdoor enthusiasts dream with about everything for clothes you need, boats, quads and a good shoe selection, too. I went there for a new flannel shirt and was impressed with their selecion along with the qualuty of their clothes. I think I might like a quad to get around on my property next year and they have a nice selection. They even offer an EV quad. That would be the one for me. read more

Poor experience with firearm pickup at Bass Pro Shops Tacoma. Required multiple trips due to background check issues. Arrived at 6:45 PM (store closes at 8) and was told pickups stop at 7:30 PM after the kiosk was removed at 7:00 -- none of this was ever communicated ahead of time. Manager was dismissive and rude when asked about it. Nearly forced into a sixth visit. Very unprofessional and frustrating experience. read more

Extremely Poor Firearm Pickup Experience - No Accountability I had a very frustrating experience at Bass Pro Shops in Tacoma regarding a firearm pickup. I purchased a firearm on 12/12. I later received a phone call stating that my background check had passed and was told explicitly that I could pick up the firearm on 12/30. Based on that information, I drove 45 minutes to the store on the 30th morning and waited over two hours in line at the firearms counter. When it was finally my turn, I was told I could not pick up the firearm and that I would need to come back on January 1st, because although the state approval date was 12/30, the federal system showed 1/1. This was never communicated to me prior to my visit. Staff claimed they had called or left a voicemail notifying me of this change. I checked my call history directly with my carrier and no such call or voicemail exists. I received no notification whatsoever. What made this experience worse was the complete lack of accountability or empathy. When I asked if there was anything that could be done to help given the situation (expedited handling next visit, accommodation, etc.), I was simply told to "come back later." There was no apology, no attempt to verify the call, and no acknowledgment of the time wasted. I understand background checks and regulations can be complex, but clear communication and basic customer service should not be optional. This experience was disorganized, dismissive, and extremely disappointing. I would strongly recommend using a local FFL instead if you value your time. read more

This Bass Pro is incredibly large and has a lot to offer. I always stop by a local BP when visiting a new place to get my fridge magnet and local t shirt. Unfortunately they didn't have much of a selection in size medium t shirts so I had to be sneaky and take one from the display. They also did not offer the fridge magnets that said "Tacoma" on them. Otherwise, it was still a decent experience despite driving an hour to get there. read more

Sad. Visited on a Monday early afternoon. Most of the departments were empty of shoppers. Felt bad for the employees of the empty departments. Couldn't feel the same about the gun/rifle department. Wouldn't say they were swamped but they had a dozen customers and five employees behind the counter, only one customer was being served. The rest of the employees were either talking to coworkers or bs-ing with customers. Yes, I'm aware some chit-chat is expected during a sale, but a long and many ranging branch of topics covering respective home towns for several minutes while ten customers wait in the background IS GREAT for business. You know what this place is awesome it's a destination. It's so big that it would take hours to go through the whole store. They should sell coffee there. The store was great very clean very organized. Lots of staff around. I know there's some bad reviews on waiting in line for guns and stuff like that but if you're just a shopper, it's awesome, they have rocking chairs everywhere to sit and rest. Super fun read more

If you plan on buying or selling a gun at this BP, don't waste your time. I came in on a Saturday morning to sell a gun, which required me to go to customer service desk in order to get someone to come and escort me to the gun desk. I arrived at 10:15am at 10:30 someone comes over to me to let me know that it would be 30 minutes before they could walk me back. i figured all good but then at 10:45 same guy comes to me to let me know it would be 1 hour before any one could come and get me. He did explain that they were really busy, but an hour to get someone to walk me back?? Ive bought several guns from this location and it's always a nightmare. This store treats its customers so poorly that it is incredible. It's in a bad neighborhood so everything is bolted down and locked up. Want to try on a sweatshirt? Too bad, it's chained to the display. They keep fitting rooms closed and it took me 20 minutes (I timed it) to get someone to open it up after having to beg. Meanwhile, tons of employees stand around scratching their balls or trying to get you to sign up for a credit card like loan sharks. I dropped $550 here and they barely could utter a thank you. My clothes were all shoved into a bag without being folded. After voicing my concerns in their survey and in a review, I received the saddest and most generic canned corporate response ever. Basically the equivalent of I'm sorry you feel that way. The best thing you can do is vote with your dollar and avoid this place in the future. read more

This store is like a mini museum/aquarium/store all wrapped up in one! I've been to a few bass pro shops before however this one is quite large. It used to have a bowling alley/restaurant but I'm assuming it's closed down because the gate was closed and there was a sign. Our daughter thought it was pretty cool that there was an aquarium inside of a store. This is my husband's kid in a candy store moment, so many things for hunting, fishing, anything outdoors really. Tried to exchange a recurve bow that wouldn't shoot straight. Received for Christmas. They wanted a receipt. Didn't have it. IT WAS A CHRISTMAS GIFT. Only reason I knew the bow was damaged id because I took it to a professional. They showed me where the bow is warped. The larger blonde woman was very rude and after apologizing for not offering a trade, I told her she should be because this was poor customer service. It took coming to this store on 3 separate occasions to purchase and pick up a single gun because the wait was so long each time. Most of the workers at the counter have horrible attitudes and are quite dismissive and rude. I will never shop at this chain and regret spending my money with them. Absolutely the worst gun counter in the business. Waited 5 hours to buy. Took the 6+ counter people 5 hours to wait on 25 people. Once I made my purchase and it was cleared to be picked up I waited another 3 hours for them to just get to me to pick up my already paid for item. Most employees have the personality of a blank piece of paper. Thier whole system is horrible. It takes two employees and some manager to process your sale. They obviously don't trust who they hire. There should be a separate line for picking up items that have been cleared, one for questions and one for purchase. The whole department should be reorganized and whoever thought up their system sent to the unemployment line. I will never, ever but from Bass pro or Cabela's again. Wish a local small business had my item. read more

Good prices but very long waits. It's like the department of licensing or social security office type of wait for the firearms department. I don't know who is in charge of staffing here but they are clearly not measuring wait time as a KPI. My feedback would be to do better and implement changes like appointments or something to reflect that your business values your customer's time. Honestly just drive to Cabelas in Lainey. I tried to buy a firearm with my pcs orders, as I'm active duty military. They told me they couldn't accept them and that I had to get my original orders. I proceeded to tell them these are my official orders as everything in the navy (or just my boat idk) is done over email. The only time I've ever gotten blue ink orders was boot camp, 5 years ago. I also told them copies of orders are still official. They didn't know how to read my navy orders, and tried to deny me after that. I explained my orders to them further then they denied me because of my drivers license being expired. I left after that because these people obviously didn't want to serve me because I don't even need a state ID to purchase a bolt action rifle. My Military ID works just fine for the purchase. I called Cabelas and spoke to Keira on the phone to see what all I needed to purchase a bolt action rifle. She told me My military ID and my PCS orders. I then drove the 30 minutes there to see their selection (which is obviously better than bass pro). When I was checking out at Cabelas, the cashier was confused about my orders. He called over a higher-up Charles, who then quickly and thoroughly explained them. I was super pleased at this, instead of getting told my orders aren't real. I would suggest Bass Pro in Tacoma, take the time to educate their employees on Military purchasing firearms and the laws regarding it. I feel like they just couldn't understand my orders so they were scared of the sale. This is frustrating as I've served for 5 years and have always been an avid supporter of bass pro. They even have military parking! Please get educated, not every branch of military is the same and Navy orders are harder to understand than Army orders but your education shouldn't be the reason to turn me away when I'm in my rights and have the legal documentation. I bought my first hand gun from Bass Pro Shops because I thought it would be the easiest route and a good deal. I was excited to make this important purchase, but thanks to the bassholes at Bass Pro, it was miserable and frustrating to see how low we have sunk as a society. First off, the process is totally mismanaged. When you order a gun online, you receive an email that it's "ready for pick up." The email is totally unambiguous about it. The word READY is used several times, even with warnings to pick it up within 10 days or else it will be re-shelved. So I rushed there to get it right away. I showed to to a gun counter where numerous indolent employees were milling out, chatting each other while a herd of people milled about waiting for help. It was several minutes before I noticed the e-ticket machine hidden between two larger signs. Nothing in the environment indicates that you have to take a ticket to be helped. You're just supposed to intuit it. I waited the better part of an hour to be helped. The gun guy was a complete jerk. He just read off a script like a robot without explaining anything, asking for my birth place numerous times (to see if I'm lying and would "slip up"?). He brought out the gun I ordered and allowed me to briefly inspect it before barking, "well are you happy with it???" several times. How would I know if I'm happy with it? I've been looking at it for all of 10 seconds! When I asked why they asked certain, bizarre questions, like, "When you call 911 who shows up to the door, city police or county?" I was met with an indifferent shrug. These people are too stupid to know why they're doing what they're doing. All they can do is mouth the words like an angry dad. After 25 minutes of lecturing me about the gun, the guy humiliated me in front of the whole store, demanding I keep trying to rack the gun without a clip in it. My hands were sweaty because I was very nervous. He made me feel like a complete idiot as I struggled to operate a firearm I was totally unfamiliar with. At the end of the whole, rotten experience I breathed a sigh of relief: they put me through a lot of BS, but at least now I could take my gun and go home, right? Nope. The prick took obvious delight in telling me (even chuckling to himself) that "you aren't going anywhere with this gun." They had not even started the background check even after telling me it was ready to pick up! ...So I had to pay an extra bridge toll and get stuck in rush hour hauling my booty to the shite part of town to deal with these clowns. Once the gun finally was ready, I returned thinking, well at least they got their BS questions out of the way! Nope. They had to ask five more times where I was born. They were so checked out they didn't even know what was in the box with my gun, rifling through a pile of papers and saying, "Oh, I guess here's some little thing about suicide or something..." I think airport screeners, TSA agents and the Border Patrol have more courtesy than these people. Adding to the indignity of it all, Bass Pro started sending me tons of spam emails virtually from the minute I made the mistake of buying the gun from them. Even though I opted out of all of it. When I complained, a manager called me back and said that "in a few states you actually can pick up your gun when it's ready, so we just send out one email." He also told me that Bass Pro makes the gun-buying process more difficult than required by law. In other words, much of what they put customers through has nothing to do with legal requirements, nor do they care one whit about egregiously misinforming most of their customers and wasting their time. Bass Pro epitomizes everything wrong with America: careless, incompetent employees who have no incentive to help anyone, mind-numbing bureaucracy, incomprehensible, contradictory, monolithic policies, the desire to fleece and exploit the naive customer from the second you give them any of your private info. On top of that, they are just a clone of Cabellas, which owns them. Even as they automate many processes, corporations like Bass dehumanize and degrade their "valued customers" every step of the way, ironically even prompting their employees to behave like automatons themselves. ...All to squeeze a few more bucks out of everyone? On top of that, while I see people are in awe of the size of the store, what they sell is mostly accessory junk with a vague camping theme. Adding a few fake logs, creepy mannequins bearing firearms and dead stuffed animals does nothing to add an authenticity to this bloated redneck junk shop in the hood. From the minute you enter the store and pass through the turnstiles, and some toothless hag starts harassing you to get a Bass Pro credit card, you know you are just there to be hustled and conned. Needless to say, if you are a gun buyer (especially a first-time gun buyer) avoid the bassholes at Bass unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars to be made a fool of. read more

This was our first time visiting Bass Pro Shop. I was impressed that the store is so huge. I really loved the live fish!!! We found a couple of unique items to purchase. There were a lot of employees. I appreciated the handicap scooter and that it was comfortable to maneuver throughout the store. I was highly uncomfortable with the security officers walking around. They were in full gear right down to the tactical utility belts. I couldn't help but wonder if we were safe being there. I mean if security is needed to be that beefy... why? read more

This is not the best Bass Pro/Cabelas I've been to, since I live near the Cabelas in Olympia and that one has two floors and a much bigger gallery of animals. No worries though, because the service here is impeccable. We were greeted when we entered. I got into a nice discussion with an employee at camping area because she saw me looking at the bbq rubs and she sold me on the chicken and waffles rub. I wish I could give her a shout out because she was so fun to talk to, but I forgot to check her name tag. She was an older lady and I like how she really cared about talking about food because she sold me on that rub. On my way out a couple of women near the exit stopped me to say hi to our dogs. I love when people aren't shy about being appreciative. Also props to them for salting the curb outside. It had been awhile since it had rained, but I love that they weren't waiting for it and my mom has had slip and falls before, so I love that they were proactive about people's safety. read more

I purchased a pistol that was in stock, filled out all the background check info and was told I would receive a phone call to pick up my purchase after the background check completed, about 10 days I was told, but could be a little longer. I never received a phone call so I went to the store and inquired about my purchase and if I could pick it up. Unfortunately, I had waited too long as the background check that had cleared was now expired... by 5 and a half hours. Sorry the guy says. I told him "I never received a phone call. My cell phone keeps a record of all incoming calls, when did you call?" The guy says it doesn't say when they called, it just says called and didn't leave a message. Then he states, they now won't sell me the pistol at all (due to the new law that goes in effect on July 1st regarding 10 round magazines in WA) because there's not enough time to pass another background check before the law goes into effect. I wasn't given an option to purchase another pistol, to purchase the identical pistol with a 10 round magazine (yes, they exist), or any other option that would be allowable. It was "follow me to get your refund". Then we get to the refund counter and the guy says "gun refund" and the clerk says "wow, we've had a lot of these." I say nothing, they say nothing, I get my refund receipt and leave. My refund receipt states the reason for return is "Customer Changed Mind" My experience purchasing a pistol last year at Cabela's was a great customer service experience, I thought Bass Pro Shop would be equivalent, it was not. Please do not misunderstand my opinion, it is nice to have a big store where you can actually look at things in a nice environment, especially during these changing times. I do try and appreciate customer service as well. My experience: It was a fairly nice visit, staff greeted as usual and customers even seem to be pretty polite. It is interesting and a bit different at the shooting center though. The electronic touch-less process did work pretty well this time at keeping customers in order. Though it does seem like there is a lot of people buying firearms and doing a lot of paperwork. Probably just a sign of the times. It looked like they had 3 staff members busy doing paperwork the entire 40 minutes I waited. My transaction took about 3 minutes and I was done. It does seem to me that this world of click and have delivered that there must be a creative way to get more time for staff to show product, quickly deal with customers that have quick transactions even with the increased abundance of required legislative documentation. Maybe I am wrong about creative solutions but I am still glad to have the ability to look at products and purchase from a place that offers something more than the internet like customer service. I do think large chain stores are different from locally owned stores and that may be a different discussion, but I would hope customer service is something we look for when we pick a place to do business. This place has hands down the most competitive and fair prices on firearms. Every gun I have bought form somewhere else, they offer it at a lower price. If I would have known this before buying, I would have come here. They have outstanding staff at the gun counter as well and for a female like myself, sometimes you feel out of place or like you get weird looks when going into gun shops, but not here. I do a ton of camping, fishing, and archery as well so this place is the best for a one stop shop. Their lure selection is the best in the county and they have more fishing rods than I have ever seen in my life. I highly recommend coming in when you have plenty of time to spare because you won't want to leave and there is so much to see. Any time I come here with my wife she finds a comfortable chair in the camping section and lets me wander for hours while she listens to an audiobook or podcast lol. I guess that's true love. Eek! Me thinks not, is exactly right! They do not disclose that their return/refund policy is that - you cannot return/refund merchandise! I believe they should tell you that up front before you hand over your $$$$. No phone number on the receipt and the receipt claims you have to contact "Outfitters" to find out what their policy even is... of course, they do not explain who or what "Outfitters" is or how to find them, either. I have been to this store twice in the past few weeks. The first time to try their grill, which was pretty bad food and overpriced - we tried nachos and a pizza. We do like to support local businesses and are an avid sporting family. So rather than giving amazon our hard earned dollars (as another person commented below,) we decided to come in and buy some beginner youth archery items. Boy, was that a mistake. The $30.00 bow worked great - no problems. But the bow that was twice as much ($65.00) did not work well at all, shoots really far off center, bad tension, just all around garbage etc. When I called them 4 days after this purchase and we discovered the bow was basically garbage - they told me that if I couldn't prove a manufacturer's defect, or the item was completely unused, that I was stuck with it. How in the world could I prove a manufacturer's defect and how would we know it did not work until we shot it and found out?? I sent an email to Bass Pro Shops corporate office via their website this evening; 10/15/2019. Who knows if I will hear anything back but I am not holding my breath. It is very disappointing when a customer tries to do the right thing and support what they think would be a good business, only to find out that they engage in deceptive practices. read more

Bass Pro Shops can easily be spotted on Hosmer Street with a large parking lot. I decided to come here with my husband and our little girl dog (all Bass Pro Shops seem to be dog friendly) just to browse. Also for some reason, I have this desire to visit any Bass Pro Shops while on vacation (have already been to the one in Las Vegas, Denver and Rancho Cucamonga). This particular store is smaller than the other stores we have been to but still has the familiar decor of taxidermy all around. There is also a large fish tank with some sea creatures. Bass Pro Shops is best known for selling hunting and fishing gear. They also sell camping and boating items, firearms, apparel that is related to such outdoorsy sports and other related items. It is always really neat to look around. And with all the other Bass Pro Shops, there is also a restaurant on site. But what makes this particular location unique is that there is a bowling alley next to the restaurant. The prices are a little high though, but there are some "happy hour" specials. And bowling shoes are also available for rent. All of the employees we interacted with (the employee at the entrance, employees on the floor and the employee at the register) were friendly. One employee in the aisle with dog related items was very friendly with us and made small talk with us about our dog (she is just too cute and is always making friends wherever we go). Overall, a fun place to visit and take photos (you know you are going to and then post it on one of the many social media outlets). Worth coming to if you are in the area and are looking for outdoorsy sporting goods. read more

Being in retail and food and beverage for over 15 years this was a nightmare. We had a rifle we wanted to check in to get sighted, the "greeter " had no idea how to put the tag on and where to put it, my husband tried to help as we stood there waiting 30 min for her to keep saying "this is ridiculous " my husband offered to help , she said "you cant touch it, I hVe to do it" so he stood behind her and told her what to do since she couldn't figure it out and "security" was just leaning on the gate. We were super excited to get a scope that day and Instead she tells us they are done doing scopes ?? The time was 12:00 ... we were like what do you mean . She said that there was too many people and that the gun area wasn't doing them ? Also that it was a 2 hour wait . So we just said ok we still want to buy one ... she huffed and there were now three workers just chilling up at the front deciding who was going to walk the rifle to the back. No one decided so the same lady we were dealing with had to walk us back. We entered our name in Queue and looked around , we waited about 40 minutes and saw that the workers were being short and not Handling a small crowd well at all . So we bought other accessories and wanted to go, my husband went to the workers and asked to uncheck his rifle and he was instantly cut off by the worker "you can't just take your rifle " my husband got louder and stated "my rifle is checked in and I need to get it checked out and have someone escort the weapon to the front" the worker states "oh you have it checked in?" Instead of being rude and cutting off a customer how about you calm down ... maybe not have all 30 scopes behind glass since some people just want to see what they look like and having two people behind the gun cabinet was not enough .... we then waited for a women who glared at us and raced to the front with our rifle she dropped the yellow lock tag and my husband pointed that out she said "ok?" And kept walking . She had lovely black hair and pink highlights ... I have never seen more of a nasty crew of people that work in those departments . Being a flagship store and speaking with another women who drove almost three hours to be here both our interactions with the staff were identical in how horrendous and rude they were, the women's bathroom had a broken toilet and poop in there apparently the staff had been alerted but nothing done to fix this issue . People are coming here to spend their time and money , they are excited to be here and having a horrible team that day was noticed by many patrons who went there. I was truly saddened since every worker seemed to be trying to hide away, not want to talk to people, be very short and stern or be rude . read more
