I was met by two very informative friendly young men and we had good discussions about what might be the best options for me . I call this place the Mini and Friendly Bass Pro! Yes, this place is not as be as the Bass Pro. However, the fishing department has fishing gear more specific to the Puget Sound area than BPS. SMW staff members are much more friendlier than BPS. Better yet, the staff took the time and help select a salmon fishing combo and answered all of her questions. Selection seemed a bit limited compared to the Federal Way location. Received great customer service from the employees. Just because the cashier wants to go party after work is no good reason to refuse to allow me to make a purchase at exactly 8:00pm because "We're closed"! Your automatic door let me in, and you're checking out a customer, so your register is OPEN! I told the guy "I know exactly what I need and can be back to him in 1 minute" but again he said "We're closed!". They lost a $500 sale because the cashier didn't want to work 30 seconds past closing! I was let in the store, so serve me! Your minimum wage job versus a $500 sale is NOT good customer service! I have always had good experiences at sportsman's warehouse, except today. The manager of the gun line was just about the only person who had actual customer service. The people working were dismissive, made me feel like I didn't matter and wasn't even worth talking to despite spending over 300 bucks. Three days in a row i have gone to this store to buy some arrows. The first day, Sunday 6/15 i was told no one was available to cut the arrows because everyone that knew how had called out that day, Monday 6/16 i was told only one person was available to do it but she was at lunch and didn't know when she would be back, Tuesday 6/17 i was told no one was available to do it. when i had mentioned this was the third day in a row i had been in there for the same thing i was told the person that is trained to cut arrows was on vacation. I come here every once in a while to browse or pick up some random camping stuff. They usually have what I need. Well kept and clean. The only reason I knocked off a star is because while the employees are nice...they are hard to find. About 3 of every 4 times I shop here, cash registers are not available due to staffing and you have to wait in the loooong line where people buy hunting/fishing licenses. Not a huge deal but still. Ordered two 3-gallons jugs of peanut oil (that were on sale) ship to Puyallup store. One item came within days but second one was to come from another store. I was told I'd receive both jugs before Christmas. The second jug was damaged during shipping and was told that store had none in stock. I was refunded for that 2nd jug and told to order again to trigger delivery from a different store. It never arrived. So I canceled that order and picked up only jug that was delivered. The customer service staff both on phone and in person at the Puyallup location were very nice. However, the customer service area was understaffed, causing significant wait time. read more

Drove to federal way store after they confirmed in stock. Spent close to 200 dollars. Two of the items I purchased were defective (toy for dog;filling coming out of head on day one. Shooting rest bag, pellets spilling out of seam). Drove to Puyallup store, cuz it's 1/2 the distance from home. No returns without receipt, despite my showing on my credit card account the purchase. No store credit. Every store I know can look up a purchase made via credit card, except this retailer. First purchase ever at Sportsman rip off store. Seriously. Is this company do desperate to make a profit that they sell junk and then not take it back because a piece of paper handed to me during a pandemic was thrown away??? Went to the store in person for some of their Christmas sale items. Took a number tag at the gun counter to wait for assistance. After waiting 45 min, my number was called. I explained to the employee I wanted to order a rifle. I was told all firearms orders have to be done online and they couldn't help. I didn't see any sign stating this and there's nothing on the website stating this policy either. Talking with some coworkers that also shoot, they stated they've never had that problem and 1 had just ordered a gun at the Federal Way location in person. I don't know if this is just Puyallup's location policy, but I feel it's poor customer service, especially since the policy isn't posted. I decided to order my rifle from a different retailer even though the price at the other retailer was $150 more. it was worth paying more knowing I wouldn't have to deal with the staff at the Puyallup store again. read more

Common theme with Sportman's Warehouse when purchasing a firearm is long delay both at the counter and getting calls. I've spent thousands of dollars on firearms at Sportman's and this last experience is the worst. Never coming back. Waiting for over 13 days now and store policy is not to release sale till they get a response from the pd. I had to wait over two hours to do the paper work for this last purchase. Let's see when they will call me back to pick up. Going to update this review till they call me. Update: Called again on the 14th day at 10 AM (on a Saturday) and was told that they did not get a response from the pd. So I told them to cancel my order. Then got a call from them at 2:34 PM on the same day and was told that it's ready for pick up. I doubt the pd works on Saturday to clear background check. What happened to my cancelation from this morning? Get your acts together. Besides, found the same firearm online $90 cheaper. Only way to improve customer happiness is to clear the sale within 10 days by law. Else, do your business elsewhere. read more

Sportman's Warehouse was previously in WA state some 4-5 years ago. You might get them confused with Wholesale Sports in Federal Way and Lacey. However supposedly they are not the same company, despite looking identical inside and out. This is a good size store, and carries pretty much everything. My main focus is the ammo reloading section which they have a good stock of pretty much everything. Between Sportman's and Wholesale, I rarely have to make a trip to Cabelas in Lacey. When shopping at Wholesale Sports I regularly ask for them to match MidwayUSA's online store and they are always glad to do it. On a recent trip to Sportman's I asked if they would do the same. The 16yr old kid working the customer service desk quickly gave me a disgusted look and said no way we match anything online. I said ok, and paid for my merchandize. After the sale I asked for a printed copy of their price matching policy. He replied they don't have such a thing. Right, so he was so quick to know the policy, yet it's not provided in writing anywhere. Needless to say Wholesale Sports in Federal Way will be my go to place from now on. read more

I'm not sure how this place has bad reviews. Some people don't seem to understand that when demand is high, a wait should be expected. Now on to my experiences with this store... I love this location. The staff is far more knowledgeable than the Federal Way location and there are more people here. I have had great luck with the gun counter, LOVE the archery counter, and just about anywhere else in the store I am always able to get help. I have only had one encounter with a crappy associate who honestly probably is just a miserable person. Everyone else is happy to help and several time I have had people willing to help outside of their normal departments which is awesome. Their stock gets low for archery accessories around hunting season, and similar to many other stores they rarely have high demand ammo. This is not an issue, it is common sense. Buy online if you need ammo and/or shop outside of the busy season. It's not rocket science folks. read more

After multiple inquiries and 30 days later....I was told that the assistant manager messed up the paperwork and my "proceed" was actually issued the same day I bought it. So I got my gun and began carrying it every day since it's the smallest in my collection. 6 months passed and they call to tell me I need to bring it back due to another error on their end. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with! Tried to return a gifted tackles box twice now and still have it. Even with a gift receipt they tried to give me $50 less than was paid. Got the original receipt like I was told and then wouldn't let me get the cash back would only give me store credit. Now have to have the awkward conversation with the original purchase to meet me there to get a refund. Insane!!! After being told all I needed was the original receipt! I had that conversation!! Do not buy any guns here!!! 2 1/2 hours to wait to fill out paperwork for firearms I purchased online while waiting for the old guys behind the counter to quit socializing with every guy that wanted to chit chat with them about hunting Africa and a store manager that wants to discuss the employee schedules on the floor after waiting 2 hours to fill out the paperwork. Combined with once the proceeds are authorized by the municipality your expected to wait in a numbering system line again for 2 plus hours to walk to guns already paid for to the front of the store. Staff at the front register and customer service lack common sense. I went in there to make an exchange on an item same item and they wanted to charge me $60 tax change the same item for a larger one. I had gotten the item on sale and for some reason they can put two into together and didn't understand that I was exchanging the item for the same item. I only ever have this issue with businesses who have young kids working the register and they need an adult to supervise them and explain it to them because our kids today lack common sense and real world skill set. They refuse to give me the store managers name and when he would be in next. We were able to gather this information and the Federal Way store employee told us that the Poison Puyallup were incorrect and that we could come and exchange it at their store. They even held the item up at the front so we didn't have to wait. Oh and I forgot to mention when the manager came over to help us out and I told her that other places didn't give you any hassles with exchanging items she told me that that was incorrect because she used to work at Walmart. This place is so unorganized and probably is the worst place to purchase a firearm. Purchased a pistol on 06/14 and completed the transfer. Didn't receive a response and the application expired after 30 days requiring me to submit another pistol transfer request on 07/15. I contacted the store on 07/24 and they indicated that they have not received a response from local PD. I contacted local PD and left a voicemail. Local PD responded today and said they approved the transfer on 07/23. I contacted the store to see what was going on with the transfer and now they are stating that they have the transfer but due to a system lockout, they are unable to complete the transfer. The person I spoke to stated that they were having computer issues on Sunday. What about Friday when they stated they did not receive my approval. This will be the last time I purchase a gun from a box store. Thought I'd give them the chance to prove the bad reviews wrong. Guess not. read more

I purchased a firearm from them and after the 10 business day waiting period I called to check the status and no one could be bothered to check on it for me. When we finally got the call that they where ready to be picked up, 3 weeks and 2 days later I found out by looking at the paperwork my weapon was ready a full 9 days prior but no one apparently had the time to call. When we went in for pick up it took 45 minutes because only one person was behind the gun counter and the manager in the back couldn't be bothered to stay out for all the double checks and kept going into the back office and had to be called out each time. I've had my weapon for over a week and got a call today that an "nd" was missing on my address and I have to go back in to correct it because both staff members didn't catch it and I didn't know that mattered. I'm livid to say the least at how incompetent staff is/was and now customer service is clearly not a priority regardless of how much you spend with them. My order was over $1900. read more

They call as soon as they get the paperwork back. The waiting period is set by the state, controlled by the county and sportsman's follows the law. I also am tired of bad reviews because many people don't understand supply/demand and the ongoing employee shortage. Maybe if you think you can do better at sportsman's apply for a job and help out. ' Please don't downgrade a review on a firearm based on if sportsman's has ammo for it in stock. Your review is for the firearm not supply chain issues. There is always ammo available, even through the covid, online from different sources. Online you can find virtually any ammo anytime in stock. The nice thing is you can buy at lower prices than most retail locations. Ammo is still expensive, think about it before you buy a firearm. The firearm's counter employees are awesome.
