We got to…read morehand-pour beeswax candles and fill a honey bear with fresh, raw, unfiltered honey--such a fun, hands-on activity that even my teenager and her friend loved. Kelley was fantastic, sharing her knowledge of sustainable beekeeping and the care that goes into producing pure, organic honey straight from the hive. The farm gift shop was stocked with incredible raw, unprocessed honey, honeycomb, and beeswax products--we left with plenty! We're so excited to come back this summer for the Honey House Tour, Beehive Tour, Forestry Tour, and Queen Special Tour! Getting to work a live beehive with a beekeeper and see the honey extraction process will be unforgettable. If you're looking for the best raw, organic honey in Indiana and a truly unique farm experience, Hunter's Honey Farm is a must-visit!

So many cool things about that experience... 1) I used a chainsaw for the first time and now I want to cut down all the trees! 2) We put something that wouldn't fit in our car in our relatively new truck bed... it was sooooo big! 3) While I was there, I bought several jars of their honey (again)! They have completely embraced the "hot honey" trend and are making some amazing honeys that are perfect for a nice "drizzle" on pizza, a Christmas ham or even as a sweetener in your green beans or spaghetti sauce! Their service is fantastic and you're even able to taste a few before buying! Go see them for gift baskets or to join their "honey (not jelly) of the month club" #iykyk

I use honey on a number of my recipes when I cook, and i even love to add it to my coffee. Honey is a natural, healthy, and sweet treat that has been historically beloved. It is why is was used routinely as a symbol of God's blessing and abundance in the Bible, and some scholars believe that the ambrosia and nectar of the Ancient Greco-Roman gods was actually honey. So a booth full of honey products caught my eye. I bought some honey, honey sticks, and creamed honey. They had lots of products from beeswax bars to lotion bars. Thinking back, i wish I had bought the beeswax bar. The honey (at least in the straws) also came in different infused flavors. The honey was delish! Per a festival website, "Beougher Honey Farms sells raw local honey, comb honey, flavored honey sticks & beeswax bars. We also sell overwintered Ohio nucs and queen bees." So they are a one stop shop for all things bee related. I was super happy I came here and got me some delicious and sweet goodness!

One week before they called me and scheduled our pick up date and time. The 1 hour drive down SR 135 was scenic once we got south of Greenwood. Downtown Morgantown has it going on! Local businesses, not chains, dominate the Main Street. When we walked into the bee store we found many more beekeepers waiting for the colonies to arrive. Apparently the bees are kept outside of town and brought to town inside this big box truck. Everyone was so nice while we waited for the 'NUC' boxes to be distributed. I spoke with a charter school teacher that lost 4 hives last winter and was picking up 4 more. She was driving a hatchback and I felt way better driving my truck with the bees outside the cab. Great experience, great people here!

Local honey is defined as honey originating from a hive 25-50 miles from your home or with 2-8 miles from the same nectar source for optimal benefits. https://www.locallifesc.com/raw-truth-local-honey/ Save Your Bees imports honey from the Georgetown/Lexington KY area 60-70 miles from the storefront. So in this sense it is local honey in the context that the nectars and pollen are from plants similar to those found in this area. For allergy relief in particular, 50 miles is considered local for honey. Within the 50 mile range, the pollen should be very similar and would be beneficial. The term "local honey" is a bit misleading in this context which is not to say that honey from 60-70 miles away may not still have similar benefits to honey that is truly local as defined by many beekeepers and scientists. T his is just a clarification that is worth noting depending on the benefits that you may hope to gain from buying local honey. Supporting local bee keepers and sustaining the local bee population s is essential to the health of our planet.
