Taking Takin' Care of Business and Brooklyn Bambino with tots
    Adam O.

Back in Evanston and back at Bat 17. They moved several buildings to the North on the same street fyi. The taking care of business is hands down the best thing here but we tried the Brooklyn Bambino and the Tyler Durden cheesesteak as well. The Bambino was ok but the cheesesteak is my second favorite thing on the menu. Sweet potato fries and Tots were good also.

Used to come here all the time when i lived in Evanston and adored this place. I came back while in the area to check out their new location and the renovations look amazing. It used to give college sport bar but now they really snazzed up the place, as the interior is gorgeous and it feels more like a sit down restaurant. Don't get me wrong, they still have plenty of TVs and a bar if you want to watch games here. I got a classic, as I started with the pig skins. You can never go wrong with these - The skins of the potatoes are so crispy and they are loaded with toppings. The BBQ sauce and ranch that come with them compliment them well. The K2 burger was good - the meat was juicy but a small complaint is that there could've been more toppings to match the patty. The bacon was extra crispy and i'll give them some points for that. The sweet potato fries are waffle style and are great. The staff was attentive and so friendly. After awhile they started i think open night mic or a singer was performing - not 100% sure. While in concept I love this - live music is wonderful for the community. In this instance, the mixing was pretty rough and the girls microphone was way too loud. We finished our food and we're going to chill a bit but it got to the point where we decided to leave due to the issues. So while I hope they continue this, the sound really needs to be tested beforehand. (This was last month i dined in so this could've been fixed by now). I appreciate the update Bat17 has done and will continue coming back here for a reliable meal in the future.

I would describe this as elevated bar food. While it may be a little higher in price, the portion sizes are huge which I find a good trade off! I got the Reuben egg rolls and they were done very well. I have had Reuben egg rolls at 3 places now and these take the top of the list. Also, their pretzels bites were fluffy and yummy

The cocktails and food were one of the best I've had. Nice ambiance, good service and great food.

Korean pork belly tacos...i promise, the bellies are there underneath and the slices were just enough

Thank you for being there today at Taste of Roselle! I had their Korean Pork Belly Tacos and my husband got the buffalo chicken wings. For the price and flavor, both worth it!

Ended up here through a series of mishaps. Had a reservation at a beautiful restaurant for our anniversary (couple, 3 adult children). Though I'd checked the online menu it turned out there was nothing other than apps we could eat there (lacking pescatarian/vegetarian options). We can't eat shellfish which there was plenty of. Thinking on my feet where we could eat in Evanston, I came up with Bat 17 as I knew that all 5 of us could find something that we liked there, also it was in walking distance- would not require us to pile back into the car. It was quite a departure from our original nice restaurant, Bat 17 is a sports bar.. full stop. When we got there, it was empty. Not a good sign on a Sunday night with loads of sports on tv. (Remember, it's a sports bar). As it had been so many years since I'd been there I had forgotten just how divey it is. I was gobsmacked but we tried to carry on. My husband, maybe the pickiest eater of the bunch, finally settled on a tuna burger (I think) which he ate (I think sans a side), 1 kid who likes Caesar salad ordered that which is typical of him. Though each ate them I suspect they were just ok, edible. Another kid ordered an asparagus salad which she could barely eat; I didn't ask her what was not good about it. Here follows why the one star: my son and I (the biggest and least picky eaters) ordered one of their specialty burgers, I requested mine with a veggie patty. They were out of the kind of bun specific to this particular burger so my son had to change his order, NBD. When my burger came, for some reason I felt compelled to ask the server (I've never felt the need to confirm this elsewhere) if she was 100% certain it was a veggie patty, though she assured me it was, it was 100% NOT! The Tator tots were of the frozen kind you buy at the grocery and heat in your oven, the fries weren't particularly delicious either, nor was the liquidy horse radish sauce that came with my burger. Also the waitress was, aside from the veggie patty fiasco, a little goofy.

Decided to try B-17 before a Wildcat football game after seeing a review on Campus Eats. One of the best burgers I've ever had... anywhere! My burger had that unmistakable grilled flavor and smell. It was juicy and thick and perfectly cooked! My buddy told me, " You gotta try this barbecue sauce!" But I didn't want to ruin the flavor of the meat so I said "No." I also tried the classic slider with pickles and onions. This slider has nothing in common with White Castle, especially the meat which is good, but not as good as their regular burger. You can't go wrong with fries or tater tots--both excellent, but if I had to choose one I would definitely go with the tots : ) Please try Bat17 and have a burger. You won't regret it: )

The hotel had been renovated since my last stay - my wife and I stay there every few years when we go to a conference in Chicago. I have family in the north Chicago suburbs, and the Orrington is centrally located. The room, small by modern luxury standards, was immaculate. And I'm picky. It had all the amenities we needed as well as being close to Lake Michigan for morning walks. The free internet had 200 Mbps downloads, but one of our four devices (two Windows and two iOS) couldn't log in. We dined at the hotel three times, twice for breakfast in the Land and Lake and once in the Evanston Corner Bistro for dinner. The Land and Lake had great food and service and competitive prices ($15 omelets). You can see the skeleton for the building and the support columns that dictate the wall placement and ultimately limit size of the rooms. The Corner Bistro has a very long bar and offered outdoor seating that was perfect for an August dinner. I can confidently recommend the duck special and glass of pinot noir. The beds slept well, room service came daily, and on Tuesday, there was a manager's wine and cheese tasting. I was impressed with the wines that were poured and the cheeses as well. I recall sparkling water, smoked cheddar, Comté and Manchego cheeses, with Pascal Jolivet Loire "Attitude" sauvignon blanc, a Davis-Bynum pinot noir, both very good, and a quotidian red. The sales manager, Kagan Greenfield, was pouring the wine, fielded our questions, and made our stay so much more pleasurable - is a great source of local advice. And finally, the Cubs won two of three from the White Sox in the crosstown series with their only defeat sadly on the day we went to Wrigley.

Mid Kitchen has a pretty big variety. Get something meaty or something plant based. The prices are pretty high but that's to be expected for the location and quality. Came at lunch. It's actually a pretty small place so it's always packed. There's only a few tables. At least that means people like it. Usually there's a long wait. A while later and we finally got one. It's about $15 for a sandwich, which is a lot but it's great stuff. I got the Vegan Club. This has avocado, along with plant based versions of bacon, chicken, and mayonnaise, along with lettuce and tomatoes. She got the Vegan BLT. This is almost the same thing but simpler. Got to say it has limited hours and space, which are the bad things about it along with it being expensive. It's got a lot for breakfast and lunch. From the very beginning, we knew FFT was the right vendor for us because they took our favorite foods and crafted a completely customized menu perfectly tailored to what we enjoyed and what we envisioned for the event. From there, they then worked with us to refine the menu as we kept coming up with crazy ideas. We literally emailed Anna about how we had just tasted a delicious Oreo brownie and she had it added to our desserts right away. We also wanted a very custom bar menu, and they worked with us to get us all the different brands we were looking for, going so far as to drive to Indiana to source some of them. The other aspect of their menu that made such an impact was all the interactive food stations. Everything is so creatively presented and designed. At our tasting, Anna had literally taken elements of our décor and paper goods and other motifs and woven them throughout the presentations from custom serving trays to glass designs. Everything felt intentional and thought out. Guests were constantly praising this attention to detail. Every station had some element of action to it as well, making everything feel like a unique experience. In all of this, the food was all delicious. We wish we can eat and experience it all over again. We still dream of Chef Arlene's Guava and Cheese Empanadas. Throughout the process, Anna was extremely easy to work with and very responsive. One thing we wanted to highlight was that we wanted to be very careful with allergens. Despite the high number of dishes, Anna did a fantastic job working to highlight all the possible allergens in every item, taking the request very seriously. We also wanted to praise the service for the actual day-of catering. They had their full team there, and the professional service was fantastic from top to bottom. Our guests praised the food endlessly, and people who were planning their wedding wanted to know all the background details into our catering choice. That is just more proof that Food for Thought was the perfect caterer, and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

Someone else had fresh grapefruit juice, which they loved. Someone else had an iced mocha, which fell flat. The pancakes were quite good. The waffle dish we had with blueberries and all were good. It was probably too sweet with all the things. I think I would have enjoyed a normal/plain belgian more. Then we had a veggie, squash, and tofu special, which was good. I think the hash brown sides were really good and flavorful. I liked having that half squash on the plate, which was then stuffed with the other items. Then someone else had the veggie tacos, which were also nice with avocado, goat cheese, and all. So all good fun and a nice brunch had by all.
