Walking in this casino, the first think that hits you is the clean air! There are two large smoking rooms that have sufficient ventilation and adequate number of slots. I am very sensitive to smoke and have avoided casinos because of this but now, I no longer have to! Had a great evening with the slots, saw a great comedy show, ate dinner and came home a winner! On our way from Syracuse, we stopped by the Batavia Downs. The gaming area is nice, you cant smoke everywhere, but there is a smoking area inside the casino, you can enjoy smoking while you play. I am not a big gamble and I CAN'T STAND SMOKE so I stay away from most casinos because even though they have smoke free zones you usually have to walk through the smoke to get to it.Batavia Downs does it right !! Nice atmosphere inside but .., Do to the fact there numerous ( majority) of individuals using are Seniors or disabled individuals the parking is horrendous and No thought was given to the amount of handicapped parking spots in relation proportion of individuals using the facility. Americans with Disability association was notified to see if there are any ADA violations of law and code. If the parking lot was laid out opposite of now with the vehicles facing the building towards the new sidewalks and the front two rows were dedicated to handicap this would alleviate the issue somewhat for the better. Management when alerted stated there is valet parking smugly. When it was stated valet parking is located away from the entrance and not by the entrance and one still has to manage a way in if mobility challenged the Casino manager state there is Seneca Niagara Casino that has front door valet or Finger Lakes Gaming has front row parking with handicapped parking facing the main entrance. I could not determine if he was being snark or trying to be helpful. I also notified the Governors gaming department representative in Albany and lodged a complaint and made them aware of a situation that the State of New York makes money from. Do not go here if you are disabled or have Senior challenges and I guess take the managers advice and go to the other locations he suggested. read more

I've had a lot more Batavia Ups than Batavia Downs, probably thanks to all of those little pink pills that my DJ friend usually supplies me with when I come into town. Oh crap, too much information. When I visited Batavia Downs, everyone had a good time. The facilities are decent. The special event (a Playboy thing with vintage motorcycles) was great, but I was indifferent to Batavia Downs and especially the horse racing and gambling. 90% of the clientele were male. Employees were fairly nice. I've only been to the downs once, and it was to offer moral support to a girl from Playboy (yes I'm serious). I have a lot of cute and sort-of-famous friends from the old days, although my Playboy friend is actually from around here. She looked great and it was fun. All the Batavia boys were drooling and so were some of the girls. We weren't really bodyguards, we just sort of showed up in case nobody else did so that she wouldn't feel awkward. But there was a decent turnout. Sadly most of them were throwing away their money on the horses instead of at my friend. So I'm not going to give it more than a 3 because after all, horse racing is horribly cruel. But having my gorgeous friend come here and sign magazines and posters was great for her and everyone, so for that sort of chauvinistic innovation, I'll give them a few brownie points. Not that chauvinism is good. It sucks. But at least they're doing something. And everyone was very respectful to her and she made some decent money. read more

I would rate 0 if I could. What happened to us today was totally ridiculous. We have been coming to the casino for years and staying to have a nice dinner at Fortunes restaurant. Today all the rules changed we ordered dinner for three of us at the cost of 120. We are senior citizens and can never eat a while meal so we have always taken our leftovers home. Well today our leftovers were considered take out and we were not allowed to take them with us because of this new rule. Yes we had a comp for our dinner which did not cover the total cost and this rule pertains to comps. But beside that this was perfectly good food they were going to throw out. I think they should look up yhe meaning of the words take out and doggie bag. We spend plenty of money at the casino so when we get a comp for dinner it's not free. read more

The Batavia Downs jingle is constantly in my head after I've seen the commercial. I wanted to come here to stay because I heard the hotel was beautiful, and I had never been! So last weekend, I booked a room, and came for a visit. Everyone working here is friendly and helpful. They have lots of nice amenities, like fruit infused water in common areas, a decent (free) hot breakfast, and the ambiance is awesome. The room was beautiful. Very on trend, clean, super comfy bed. Bathroom was nice too. Awesome shower. Tons of blankets, pillows. Loved it. My partner and I each won about $30 at the slots, just from the "free" money they give you when you register at the casino. That was an awesome little bonus! The casino was fun to play around in! We saw my uncle's band Coupe de Villes, rocking out in the Thurman Thomas 34 Park Bar. That was awesome! Great energy there! 3 things of note: 1. If you are under 50 years old (maybe even 60!), you will be one of very few individuals here in your age bracket. 2. BRING SLIPPERS. The floors in the rooms are HARD. Wandering around barefoot on a hard floor isn't too much fun. I'm used to carpeting in bedrooms. So bring slippers. 3. This is no reflection on anyone's lack of care here, but I got a spider bite on my cheek during the night, that got infected, and has required medical care. I know it's spider season, but this totally freaked me out. So, I dunno... Bring bug spray or peppermint essential oil to spray the room (or at least bed) down to keep bugs away? Otherwise, we had a great stay and would definitely come back! read more

We had an over night stay with a large wedding group! We got to our room pull back the sheets only to find popcorn kernels dirt and mad stains in between the sheets. This is not the worst of it! We called the main desk only to get a rude obnoxious response. The woman at the desk said to me IM ONLY ONE PERSON DOING 3 JOBs. When she got to the door handed me the sheets to have me make the bed and again stated she is only one person. Told me I had to make the bed. Now I'm Normally a very reasonable person. They are finally opened, but I feel they were not ready to open. Gaming machines are 3 & 4 apart, and none of the cash-out machines are functioning, so you have to stand in line for a long time to cash out a ticket. No bar drinks, no coffee, and I couldn't find water anywhere to take my pills. no smoking either. Some machines are making loud noises which is irritating, & when I sat at a seat on the "5's slot, my entire pants and leg go wet, which is troubling due to now beverages available, ugh Then they make you stop playing in certain rows so they can empty cash out of the machines...evidently so they can take the cash up to the cashiers office to give to people with their tickets... really disappointed with the whole experience. They have more people wiping down machines constantly then they have people playing. No food, drinks, smoking, atms, cash out machines. I"ve been bored, but this is ridiculous. read more

People will always give a lower rating of these kinds of places if they don't win. It's adult entertainment. You are not entitled to win every time you go. That being said, the remodel of this place is absolutely gorgeous. My buddy and I went to pass the time before dinner that night with friends. There isn't as much as a variety of machines as Finger Lakes Racetrack but enough to please the casual gambler. Went to the bar and this is where they lost a star for me. Waited for about ten minutes for a drink. Three bartenders on duty and people were being served before me that arrived after I did. The bartenders seemed to be a little overwhelmed but it really wasn't that busy. Average. Overall my experience was good. Although I didn't win, it was entertaining. We had booked the Park Place room at Batavia Downs to host an event. At a first glance, it seems like the biggest issue to overcome is the outdated 80s decor. Not in a cool retro way, but blue patterned carpets, 2-tone walls, and tacky gold painted scraps of metal all over the walls. When first talking to them, they talk about all these contacts they have to help get your event off the ground. After months of minimal contact and not actually being able to provide dimensions of the rooms we rented, we never actually got to find out about any of these contacts. Finding our own did not work out as we're not in the event industry, so we had to cancel our event. Batavia Downs kept 100% of the room rental fee. When I asked about a refund, they responded with their lawyer citing "no refunds" on the contract. The contract also stated it was only valid until a date several months prior. Aside from a poorly written contract and complete lack of customer service, who's first step in resolving customer issues is to send their lawyer? These guys. Make sure you agree 100% with everything in the contract as I'm sure even if we had our event there, they would find issues to charge additional penalties. read more

I don't think I have actually been at this casino and actually did the casino activities. The first couple times I was here it was for concerts; Guitars and Stars and Montgomery Gentry. Loved this place as a concert venue. You could chose to sit up in the stands or stand by the stage in the pit area. Either way there wasn't a bad view of the stage. Sound was great too! We never missed a beat during both concerts. The third time I was here was for a wedding show. They hosted a ton of venders in the Rochester and Buffalo area. We got to see different things than we were used to at the Rochester shows. There were also appetizer supplied which were amazing! I think my fiance at the blue steak puff thing like five times. We also got complimentary drinks which was a nice cherry on top of the event. Staff where great! We also got something like $5 credit to gamble but we didn't get time to try it out. read more

We were in the Area (Medina) camping. With a forecast of rain one night we decided to visit Batavia Downs Casino. It is a smaller casino than any at Niagara Falls or Turning Stone. We had Prime rib at the Steak House Restaurant which was very good. The Clerks at the Racing betting counters were very friendly and helpful guiding us in the way to play a bet since we had never bet on the ponies before. The bar staff was friendly. you could watch the races from most anywhere. There were CCTV's everywhere, even at the buffet dining tables and bars so you can watch the races and cheer for your horse. The slot machines at Batavia are no better or worse than any other, and some of the employees are very nice, ( although they seem very under staffed) but the management at this casino are among the rudest I've ever experienced. They do not appreciate their customers. I don't mind losing a little money if I'm having fun, but the management at this casino is the worst. Also, they do not have enough cash out machines and they often have several not in working order... go to Finger Lakes or Delago. Great place and the remodeling they did really helped make it alot better. They have alot of machines and 2 smoke and play rooms. Some people on here complain they didn't win much but IT IS A CASINO! If you go in expecting to walk away with a big pocket full of cash everytime then you must not know the definition of gambling. Fortunes restaurant has really good food, been there twice and loved it both times. Food prices range from $10 to $20 a plate and there is a wide variety of stuff to choose from. There is also 34 rush also which is more of a sports bar and has the typical food you'd expect. They've done alot of work making the place alot nicer and if your into the horse racing then head outside and enjoy. read more

We played for several hours, so there is that, but a machine broke down while my mother was using it. The screen admitted she had $64 in there, but it needed the attendant. We waited half an hour and then I went to find one. Finally he gets there and "fixes" the machine. Didn't work. Fixes it again by resetting it. Comes back up and my mother's $64 turns into $28. Since he had seen the $64 he called his manager. She immediately called us all liars and refused to fix the problem. When the machines work you can have fun, but when they go down you're screwed and the manager couldn't possibly have been ruder. There are plenty of casinos in New York, I won't be visiting this one ever again. read more

Okay I always visit Batavia Downs Casino and have a lot of fun. I'd like to give 4 stars at least but I can not as lately it seems to be slacking. I'm not too happy with the removal of the soda machine on the main gaming floor. Now I have to go into the smoking room which is cloudy and smelly where's the fairness or logic in this? Probably another money saver. The men's bathroom next to the players club is used a lot but they need to do something about that strong urine smell it's awful. They took away the small seating area by Fortunas which was always a nice place to relax. Another thing I've noticed has been the money is going fast lol. Not everyone can win but let me have some fun $20 at $.40 has gone faster than my previous visits who tweeked the machines hmmm? Haha! Another thing would be I say Booo! To to taking away the crab legs I enjoyed every Friday and Saturday. Now it's limited to only when horse racing is happening. Lastly these younger security guards need to play the part. How can Somebody feel safe when the security guard looks like she belonged in a dance club?? Really and all I hear is their personal issues/problems. Thank you to the older guards who are extremely polite, knowledgeable, and very helpful. So even though I've not been overly impressed with Batavia Downs lately I still believe it is a nice place well kept the staff is ok great prime rib and it's worth a visit even though it's starting to lose that cozy welcoming feeling at least for me.
