the kids' meals portions were smaller than we thought. they were actually kind of sad looking, especially the tenders. the fries stood out more than the tenders. its okay if they only gave us three pieces but at least bigger pieces. they did come with a drink of a choice. the chili was salty. came with pita bread and it was blah. the salmon entree wasnt bad but the rice was a bit soggy. wish the buttermilk chicken had more taste to it. the place was ok. read more

Threw a surprise party for my friend here last night and they could not have been more accommodating. They reserved the front high tops for us (group of about 20), and I was able to order apps and pizzas beforehand. They brought the food out at all the right times, and we had two waitresses dedicated to just our group for drinks the entire time. Aside from being accommodating for a large group, the food here is really good, and the atmosphere is great! They have windows that open in the nicer weather and tons of TVs for sports fans. Finally, they have a mocktail menu, which I always appreciate since I'm expecting. Overall great spot, highly recommend! read more

My husband and I use to love coming here. I would get the greek pita with chicken and he gets different things. We came in here a month ago and the service was TERRIBLE. They never came to check on us and or refill drinks and four of them were just sitting in the corner chit chatting. Tonight we decided to try take out from Bates again. I called in two greek chicken pitas. They said 35 mins. My husband got there and waited forever they let him have a beer while he waited for the pick up. He complained about how long it was taking and the guy said it was still coming up. He got the food a HOUR after I called and when he brought it home the french fries were cold and soggy and they didn't add the chicken like I asked. So we have two soggy pitas with no chicken and soggy fries. We called and complained and a female manager yelled at us on the phone. Not impressed with the pizza. First, it says "shredded chicken" on the menu and this is definitely cubed. Also soggy and falling apart. Had to bake it more when I got home. Debated giving 3 stars but went with 3 because I was happy with a salad with salmon that I got a while back, coconut shrimp was pretty good, it's a fun atmosphere (sort of a classier dive) and the staff is super nice. read more

Came to Bates Bar & Grill in Braintree my family is the only black family here and they send my food out burnt and when I tried to return the waitress tells me the manager/owner said they can't take it off the bill I said ok I never heard of that but I don't want it so return it ... the poor waitress comes back with the food boxed up telling me the owner said to bring it back out to me ! The waitress was so uncomfortable and neither she or I can believe this just happened ! the owner comes out non apologetic , arguing with me why he's right! He tried to explain the temperature was well done but why was it burnt ? Salmon and brussel sprouts both burnt !! As a business owner myself I would never treat anyone like this ! They should be embarrassed! He didn't try to make any of it right! read more

This is a real "place in the neighborhood". The best burger in town can be found here among other favorite menu items. Try to go on a Wednesday night and have the wonderful Marcus serve you at the bar. He is personable and extremely efficient. Our food and drinks arrived in no time at all and he check back frequently to be sure we wanted for nothing. He alone is worth five stars! Great atmosphere with plenty of TVs to watch a game and a friendly crowd to start a conversation. You might even find yourself chatting with one of your neighbors. Easily located right in the heart of Weymouth Landing. Lots of on street parking or walk up one block and park in the Sacred Heart church parking lot and give thanks that you found such a great place in the neighborhood. read more

Very disappointed with the food and drinks. The inside is a spin-off of the Assembly in Quincy and somewhat noisy Overall. The windows being open most likely gel in the noise level Our server Holly was outstanding , but drinks were not as ordered. Just opened on 2/15 and we visited on 2/16. You might think that being only the 2nd day open there would be issues....there were none. Service and food were both EXCELLENT. We started with the boneless chicken wings...ordered 2 small orders to start and had to order a 3rd because they were so good! Try the Golden honey...yummy! A couple of us had the fried chicken sandwich w/fries. Chicken was crispy, but tender and fries were hot and crispy. 2 others had the steak tips w/mashed and substituted onion rings for the broccoli. I think one of my friends was actually going to lick the plate (there was NOTHING left). I am excited to be within walking distance of Bates Bar and Grill! read more

Great service from the waitress. Management and the kitchen have a problem though. Got their buff chick fries with mozzarella on the top. Solid meal until about I got half way through and the cheese/fries were stuck to all the tin foil. Asked for a few dollars off my bill for half my meal being stuck/ripped apart for trying to get off the tin foil. Waitress stated the supervisor was able to remove everything off the tin foil but never returned my food and advised they would not provide any refund. Respect the waitress but honestly have never heard a response like that from any restaurant in my life and I really hope the management gets spoken to by the owners of the business because from personal experience this is not how you handle customer service inside a restaurant by any means. I didn't want to not tip the waitress for the great job she did so figured a review would hopefully make a better impact. read more

Looking for a bar with late night food we came to Bates! It was 9:45 and the kitchen closed at 10pm. Hate being the ones who order that late but the bartender was super friendly and told us to get whatever we wanted. Ended up going with the Sweet Chili tenders and they are BOMB!! Sea Dog on tap with a huge wrap around bar and all the outside windows were all open!! We will def be back to check out more from the menu!!! read more

Atmosphere was great, and that's the only positive. Boneless wings were barely covered in BBQ sauce. Chilly was extremely salty and when the waitress asked if I liked it I told her she saw a barely touched it she never offered to take it off the bill. Pizza I was expecting bar pizza (since it's a bar) pizza was pre made frozen dough you know the kind that's perfectly round. I will never go there again. I wanna start off by saying I can't imagine how difficult it must be to run a restaurant during this time, but Bates is killing it. We have been twice since indoor seating has been approved and they have it down. We felt safe and comfortable the entire time. I watched the staff clean their hands multiple times and clean the restaurant multiple times while we were there. The food was perfect and affordable. Wow. What a absolutely horrible experience. Worst place you will ever go in your life. Went with my girlfriend for a quick bite. She ordered salmon, I had salad. Salmon came out with bottom completely burnt ( see pic attached). Sent it back. Came out raw. Manager finally came over after almost 15 minutes. Leaned on table next to us and said sarcastically "what's the problem". I explained how it came out burnt, his comment was "not burnt, slightly well done". When I called him on how that was not true he put his finger in my face and kicked us out. Food is horrible, staff is horrible. I'm moving my older daughter into the area and had lunch at this establishment twice this week. Both times the food was very good.  Nice place and the wait staff could not have been more professional and friendly.  We had burgers one day and a Cuban the other.  Fries were larger than expected and well cooked along with everything else.  The cost of the meals was reasonable and I recommend this place for lunch anytime you are in Braintree MASS. read more

Have stopped by twice. Really nice open space, clean, bright and comfortable. First time I stopped in I couldn't tell if it was a patron on the bar itself but someone smelled really good. Not restaurant good but kinda like strawberry starburst. When I returned the smell was absent so it must have been a fluke. The beer selection is on point. Lots of local beers and some you don't usually see available in restaurants. (Weihenstephaner is a nice break from bars with their usually IPA forward selections) The first meal I had was only an app, the Mezze plate and it was pretty mundane. Plenty of limp celery and carrot slices with pita triangles that got wet, a small cup of katamala olives and a soupy tomato, cucumber feta salad . Just a boring and flavorless attempt at a fresh summer dish, it could have benefitted from some hummus. On my second trip I brought my wife along. Beautiful day outside and they had the street side windows open. Weymouth landing isn't the sexiest of locations but there's a certain charm to the suburban hustle and bustle and enjoyable to people watch with a couple of beers. Beer selection was still top notch. It's not super exciting but a style for just about anyone. The bartender made my wife a mixed drink with mint, watermelon and other mixers and she absolutely loved it (she lived the next one even more) The food this time around was much better. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. It was juicy and the spicy slaw on top of it added a nice touch of heat and a cold crunch . The fries were good too. Pretty salty but enjoyable, especially paired with my wife's meal which was the chili. Let's get the bad out of the way here. This might be he saddest looking chili I've ever seen. Looked like a watery mole sauce with some cheese melted on top. But never judge a book by its cover. This was absolutely delicious. Wife got mad when I used my remaining fries to dip into the chili. Wouldn't hesitate to get this dish again and it'd be killer on top of a hot dog. 4 stars, always good to see more local businesses open up and I hope they do well. read more

Four of us Went to dinner here on a Sunday at 5:00 p.m.. We were seated right away at a high top table. Our husbands sat on the "booth side " of the table, and it was so low, they both sat on pillows to make themselves taller to be at the right height to eat. Drinks were ok. Mine was a blueberry mojito, that had about 5 old shriveled blueberries in it. (If you don't have fresh ingredients, just say so and offer something else!). Dinner was ok. I had a lobster BLT, Bacon was hard and almost black. Waiter (owner?) gave me chips instead of the fries I ordered. Our friend ordered some sort of Greek pork kabab, pork was overcooked and stuck on the skewer and he had try to wrestle it off without sending it flying across the table. Waiter never came back to ask how our food was. Sat there with empty glasses, would have liked to get a second drink (something else) and more water, and more ketchup for the fries. Unimpressed. There are dozens of other places to spend hard-earned money for a decent dinner with great service, this isn't one of them. read more

We sat at the bar. Bartenders were ok, they seemed more interested in conversations with each other and being on their cell phones than the people at the bar. We had buffalo chicken tenders as an appetizer, portion and taste were good. We each ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Salads were a little on the small side for the price and the chicken tasted like it was cooked ahead of time and put in the fridge. They do have a few Tv's and keno. Parking is tough. Which is no fault of the restaurant. And my review does not reflect that. I wouldn't rush to go back here as there are many other places to dine. read more

This place is great! Great food. There's certain dishes that are sub par - like the chili side, but they've got amazing pizzas!

I had a great meal here with my 10 year old. If you're into sports and pub food you will really like this place. Very solid bar food, wonderful atmosphere and the service was excellent. The space is dominated by a beautiful horse shoe bar with flat screens mounted across the top so you can see pretty much any game you're there for from anywhere in the restaurant. It has a great location on corner with floor to ceiling(ish) windows so it gets great light. The Buffalo wontons were referenced quite a bit in the reviews I read so we went with those and both really liked them (my son is only sort of adventurous and he was a big fan of them). I had the avocado BLT, ingredients were fresh, bread was great and overall very solid item. My son had a cheeseburger and devoured it. Loved the fries too. Definitely recommend stopping in if you're looking for a place to eat in Braintree! read more

Decided to try this place out for the first time with a friend. I've seen the building but had never been here. Came in about 7:30 and the place was mostly empty except for the bar. We were sat right away and our waitress came and took our drink order. About 10 min later she came back and took our food order, we each ordered a cheeseburger pizza. I was very impressed with the drinks, they were both delicious and the pizza was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I definitely would recommend the food and drinks at this place. I removed stars however because I've never been almost completely ignored by a waitress. After our food was delivered we did not see our waitress again for over 30 minutes. Not once did she check to find out how the food was or if we needed more drinks, our glasses were empty for over 15 minutes. She finally comes back as we're winding down on the pizza, we order an additional drink each and that was the last time we saw her. Another 20 min later, and we're ready to leave....our waitress was nowhere to be seen. After another 5 or so minutes I went up to the bar and had to actually ask for the bartender to get our waitress because we hadn't seen her and were looking to leave. None of this made sense, as we were LITERALLY her only table. The bartender seemed SHOCKED that we had not seen our waitress at all. She comes back out and does not even apologize for the amount of time we had to wait for her. Needless to say we handed her our cards right away because we didn't want to risk waiting another half hour for her to come back. If we do come back, I definitely will be sitting at the bar as it seems that even though the bar was completely full, that the bartenders were very attentive as it didn't look like anyone was waiting for drinks. read more

Great place to watch games and the food and staff are phenomenal. The variety of craft beers is great & having a place that offers that us EXACTLY what the landing needed. There isn't a bad seat in the house to watch the game with the amount of tvs all around. I can't even rave about the food enough. The wings & coconut shrimp are absolutely amazing.
