We've stayed at this location twice, both times we have been greeted by Calvin and he is an absolute delight. Always down to chat and always willing to help out. This place runs on Calvin. He's a twin, ask him about that. Rooms are as expected, place is nice. Calvin is the draw. He works evenings on both of our stays. We had a great two night stay! The staff were super friendly -- special shoutout to Hope, the lovely attendant who was chatty and helpful and remembered us the next morning! Loved that the lobby was decorated for Christmas and has festive music playing. The breakfast selection was great--we enjoyed the automatic pancake machine! The room was clean and we particularly enjoyed the extra hooks for hanging our coats and purses. As with all hotels, some sort of table/surface option on the outside of the beds would be appreciated! And not all of the bed lights worked and the ones that did weren't really bright enough for reading. But overall would recommend this Tru location. read more

After a single night stay I feel comfortable with a weak four star review, but the visit was not perfect. I like the Tru brand and have frequently used them since their inception over 6 years ago. They are more modest accommodations that still offer amenities. No issues with parking and the lot was clean One of two elevators did not work. I did a digital key in advance, so a check in was not necessary. However, I wanted my two bottles of water and no front desk staff was present. The lobby area was clean. In each city Tru is in they have the name of the city in bright colors on the wall. Often a pool table. The digital entry worked without a hitch. The room had no issues and was prepared for my arrival. The shower was great and towel soft. The room is good size, but feels smaller with a queen bed and desk chair that sticks out. Breakfast was adequate with eggs, protein and mini pancakes. Cereal and other offerings too! A coffee station is separate. The trash can was overflowing, Upon checkout I did request my two bottles of water for the road. Staff was meh. 3.5 rounding up. read more

There's minimalist, and then there's Uncomfortable and Cheap. I've stayed in minimalist hotels with small rooms, but there were redeeming features like charm (Tuxon Hotel in Tucson, a former Motel 6) and decor (TWA Terminal Hotel at JFK). No charm here. Bare floors make it easy to hear your upstairs neighbors. The air conditioning is iffy. No hot water after THREE minutes in the shower. That's some minimalism for you. Pleasant staff at the front desk. Nice, but that doesn't make up for a lousy stay. read more

We've been Hilton Honors members for 25 years. We have a Hilton timeshare in Las Vegas. So we have an expectation of Hilton quality. This was our first stay at a Hilton Tru hotel. The minimalist concept is different and we found our room to be very similar to our cabin on a cruise ship. The shower and gratis soap dispensers were a nice touch. The front desk lady was on point, friendly and helpful. There is an included breakfast with a novel pancake making machine - very cool. We'll be staying at Tru's again. Not as big a fan as some of the other reviewers here. I had never stayed at a Tru before, and I will avoid them in the future. First, there's no carpeting, and noise echoes, which doesn't make it feel very cozy. The only place to sit is on the bed. I think there's room for a chair, if not the bed could be downsized from a king, it dominates the room. Then there's no coffee maker. This is a great hotel for the Minimalist. Although not a huge feature of amenities, they make up for it in customer service, cleanliness, and a good night's sleep. I appreciated the various work stations so that I could leave my room and enjoy a different view for a few hours. I would recommend adding sanitizing wipes near the cube stations so that once you've finished working, you can sanitize your seat or the portable tray table that was available. Or signage to get a wipe from the front desk to do so. The morning manager was outstanding with her service! She hustled through numerous patrons asking for bagged breakfasts, making each coffee upon request and smiling the entire time. The fitness center is equipped with all you need for your workout! Med balls, dumbbells, mats, barre, pull up station and treadmills. There weren't any dressers in the rooms so again... good for the minimalist. The bathroom was equipped with on the wall soap & lotion and the shower gel had shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. It was a good stay overall! read more

We always look at Yelp for food but lately, I've been finding some great reviews of hotels here also. I figure I may as well contribute to the cause. First off - YES... if you're looking for a clean and safe place to stay, you can stop here and start booking. The establishment was great! From the friendly check-in, to the clean room and yummy buffet, there was nothing to frown upon. I genuinely like the Tru brand as they seem to have their marketing done right when it comes to modern, clean, and crisp. We did an entire vacation staying at a bunch of different hotels and this place definitely stood out for how inviting and clean it was. I'll absolutely keep this place in my back pocket for next time I'm up in the area. We have stayed at so many hotels in Staunton while visiting family. Many properties are older and really in need of refreshing and a good cleaning. The newer Tru represents the Hilton name nicely. Clean. While I'm not usually a Tru fan, (glorified dorm room) it's nice to have a decent option in Staunton. There were no (redhot moments) here. The a/c worked wonderful, and we had a great sleep. Here for one night and it was a great choice! Tru is a minimalistic approach to hotels; albeit clean, colorful and packed with the amenities you would expect. Especially from the Hilton brand. The staff was warm and friendly. The room clean. I liked how the sundries were ecologically presented in mounted tubes. IE: hand soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. There are no closets or drawers. Instead there are hooks on the wall and a colorful bar with hangers. Plenty of seating strategically placed to slide or roll out. Plenty of outlets and ports to charge your devices. The breakfast has assorted bread, muffins and bagels. With a real 4 slice toaster. Hot Eggs and meats are available. A futuristic pancake maker that does make 1 fluffy pancake at a time. Fruit. Juices and coffee. There are assorted snacks and microwaveable items for purchase 24/7. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased up to 11:59 pm. Plenty of areas to work, relax, play (games and foosball) and a workout room. Really everything you would expect from a Hilton property with a colorful streamlined presentation. The area itself is filled with convenience shopping and eateries. This is now my favorite hotel brand. It has the hip feel of a Wework and I hung out quite often to bang out some work on their fast wifi in the huge lounge. The gym was clean and well-stocked with a treadmill and pull-up bars. The continental breakfast had some yummy omelettes and the pancake machine was automated self-service. We arrived late to this location and checked in early with keyless entry. Which was great because we didn't have to stop at the desk just go right to our room. They also let you pick out your own room. The room was clean and had lots of counter space for luggage. Breakfast was typical of these hotels, they did have a pancake maker which was cool. Only complaint was they had no kids for the coffee cups. I had trouble carrying 2 cups up to our room then had to put them on the floor to open my room. Overall a very nice place to stay. I always go with Hilton since they rarely don't disappoint. This place was another example of the quality oh Hilton. This place was very minimalistic and very clean. Wish we stayed a couple nights instead of just passing by. The amenities the hotel offered looked fun. There was a board game area, interesting and comfortable chairs to lounge in, etc. the breakfast was good. The highlight was the automated pancake maker. It was fun and easy to operate and made yummy pancakes. I highly recommend this place. If we take a road trip down south again, we'd definitely go back and stay here. read more

What an experience! We always try to stay in a Hilton for the rewards program and when we aren't feeling too adventurous booking an AirBnb. While taking a little weekend getaway with a couple or friends, we found this brand new gem in Staunton, VA area. At just $130 we jumped on this steal of a deal splitting it between the 4 of us for a relaxing night in. The staff was extremely pleasant and instead of dressing in suits, they are in laid back t-shirts. They informed us this night was only their second night open so we were the first to stay in our room which just made it feel so much more exciting! First off, please know this is the MINIMALIST version of the Hilton franchise. I mean no dresser, no closet, VERY simple and for the less extravagant type. Now, this doesn't mean they cheaped out on the decor and amenities; including a 24 hour gym, game area in the lobby to include Foosball, giant Jenga, board games and MUCH more. Think of it as the 'hipster' Hilton hotel. For breakfast they offer a spread like no other hotel (including regular Hiltons) which features pretty much any breakfast food accompanied by an array of toppings. I'm talking Nutella, marshmallows, caramel, sprinkles, you name it and it's there to treat your sweet tooth. This is not your traditional continental breakfast. If you ever get a chance to stay in this Tru line, I recommend the stop. I will be looking forward to my next stay when the a future adventure arises. read more

New hotel so my boyfriend and I weren't sure about it, we were going to just spend the extra money staying next door at the Marriott but, I am not disappointed at all with our stay here. This hotel is the epitome of what the Hilton brand should always be! Although I checked in through the Hilton Honors app and had the ability to use a digital key via my phone, I still stopped at the front desk to grab a key card. As soon as I walked through the front door, I was greeted by the employee at the front desk. She was warm and friendly and made sure I knew where to find all of the amenities. I immediately noticed and remarked on how spotlessly clean everything was, including the windows. (I was super impressed) She called another employee over that had been working hard on getting the windows just right. It was apparent that he took great pride in making everything perfect. I was happy to give him kudos on a job well done. The hotel is new, being open for less than three months ... But we've been to other new hotels that aren't half as clean as this one. There's a level of expectation we have as Hilton Honors members and this place is exceeding that. Once we were settled in the room (about 30-45 minutes after arrival), the front desk called to make sure the room was okay and to see if we needed anything. What?! This is something I only expect at a resort or 5-star hotel. The room seems compact upon first entering, but they've added so many awesome storage options and tables that can be rolled out from under another place for added storage or workspace. We had plenty of places to put everything. The TV is huge and clear, great for watching a movie all cozied up in the comfy bed. The bathroom also has everything you need - soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner ... all mounted on the wall (and shower wall) in long, squeezable tubes. Loved it! Breakfast is complimentary and offers plenty of options: hot or cold cereal; eggs, meat (chicken sausage during our visit, which was delicious); waffles, bagels, toast, pastries, etc. You will find coffee and hot tea in the lobby 24/7, which is awesome! This will definitely be our go-to spot in Staunton going forward! There are so many cool spots in the area to explore, such as: wineries, amazing restaurants, parks, hiking, shops, etc. Glad to know we'll have a great place to stay in the area. Check-in is 3pm, check-out is noon. I can't recall the exact breakfast hours, but I remember it lasting a little later than most other places, which is also a huge plus! read more

Brand new and affordable. Super clean and fun. We LOVE the sustainable touches they had. Rather than individual bottles there was a squeezy dispenser for soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Breakfast included is a huge plus to our family. They even had waffle banana boats. The lobby is festive with foosball tables and newspapers. The staff was welcoming and very nice. I love the way the hotel is more Budget friendly than its higher end counterparts but just as respectful of its clientele. We've favored Hampton Inns for years, but we've noticed they're not as consistent as they once were. The new ones are always great, but some old ones are being maintained/updated and others are NOT. We just had a horrible experience at a HI, so we booked this Tru - and it was great! We've stayed at Tru in several locations and all have been good, so now maybe we will look for them instead. They're sorta basic, but they have everything you could need, in good condition and the Staunton staff was great. Breakfast was way better than the last Hampton Inn we stayed at, and the attendant was on top of the breakfast bar. read more

This was different. Nice change to the Hilton brand to gear towards the younger crowd by what it seems. Boardgames, foosball, nice TV's but all kinds of minimalistic things everywhere! No dressers or cabinets in the rooms, or even a closet. Just a shelf under the TV, a chair with the mini-fridge under it, and two queen beds. The breakfast bar was excellent! Sure the eggs were a bit generic along with the sausages but the plethora of cereal options along with the waffle bars you can make and dress as you want, won me over. They also have mixers for your yogurt or oatmeal. This place is a great change like I said before. Laid back and very simple. Only a few months old. Tru was my new choice pick so I was really excited Hilton's been building more. It's a consistent brand. Clean and very quiet. A really good pantry selection. Close to lots of different restaurants. Bring your own soap and/or body wash, cause while the lemon sugar scrub smells amazing, it's probably not best for all parts. read more

Our first time staying in the new TRU series by Hilton. Had no idea what to expect from it and what the experience would be like compared to other from their lineup. Very trendy looking. Typical COVID mask statements and requirements. Rooms after being cleaned and disinfected have a door seal on them so you know they are done. They smell clean and fresh and not like cleaners everywhere. Spotless would be the best word. Beds and linens were AMAZING!!!! I seriously WANT these sheets and pillows. Breakfast was simple, they were handing out items, no hot items or self serve since COVID. Perfect sized room for our family of three. Bright room if you wanted, or very dim lit if you wanted to change it up. Love the tile floor throughout rather than the old carpet of other places. The shower...WOW. Helpful an friendly staff.
