Batter & Berries just doesn't miss! Enjoyed the specialty omelette they had during my visit in May. Everything was SO good we had to go back twice before we left Chicago to head back home. The French toast flight is great especially if you want to taste multiple and is great for easy sharing. We definitely appreciated the service each time. It started out with a FREE street parking spot (the whole area out front is unmetered) so we were excited that this will be an easy place to revisit. The interior is bright and sunny and we were greeted warmly. There were a bunch of specials but because it was our first visit, we wanted to try the regular menu. Came here for Valentine's day. The staff is very nice and attentive. The space has plenty of natural light. We were told it was a 30 minute wait but we only waited about 10 minutes. We ordered the strawberries and champagne French toast and the traditional. I dont like the kind of bacon that is served its thick and doesnt cook up in a way thats not dried out and our burnt. Cant go wrong with the cheese hash browns. My daughter had a waffle she loved it, it was crispy and fluffy. Unfortunately with the weather being so cold and sitting adjacent to the door our food cooled down quickly. Ive been to all 3 locations they are all pretty consistent. Chicken and Waffles were perfect! The waffle is lightly sweet with cinnamon like spices. The chicken breast has a mild herb seasoning the hot sauce I got on the side and it was perfect for dipping the chicken breast. There are small pieces of chicken inside the waffle. Good serving size for $20. My boyfriend also got a side dish that came with a salmon croquette, a shrimp with a jambalaya omelette and brownie French toast. It was a small serving size for $30. The service was ok and the wait was only 15 minutes at the most. (It wasn't crowded) Ambiance was nice, it's a small restaurant probably could use some decorating. read more

I actually liked the food here. We got there as soon as it opened but it got busy really fast. A friend of mine invited me to come and told us getting there right at open is the best time to beat the crowds. It fills up fast and I did see people wait for a long time. It does get loud like your typical eatery and definitely wait a bit more than usual, this is not a fast food place. Now for the food, I liked the French Toast Flight that was recommended to me. The Toadt had a nice subtle crunch, wasn't overly sweet, didn't feel too heavy after biting in, and the presentation was great. I didn't mind the wait as I chatted for awhile. Didn't try anything else though, but honestly I liked it. I guess the only downside is the wait time. Overall get here early for the best experience. read more

The food was not good. Originally, I ordered the spinach omelette, they didn't have any spinach. I then ordered the traditional breakfast, which was 2 chicken sausage, 2 eggs & hash browns. The chicken sausage was made with apples, which I did not like. The hash browns were simply made with no seasoning & no onions or bell peppers- just browned in a skillet and no toast included!!! They also had no jelly for the toast and no orange juice!!! How can you be a breakfast spot with no spinach, no jam/jelly and no orange juice. From what I could tell there was no manager or supervisor on-site to oversee the process. We had to request ketchup & hot sauce & jelly and orange juice multiple times. It was a bit crowded, so there was a short wait, but once seated the service was great...our waiter was helpful with food suggestions It's BYOB Food wise, the jerk chicken was tasty (though not spicy), and the salmon croquettes were decent but a little salty in my opinion (I'm picky because my mom makes the best). My friend preferred the croquettes, while I leaned toward the jerk chicken. The French toast flight was the highlight for me..every flavor was good, but the caramel was amazing. Overall, it was a good experience. The server was really nice and it was very speedy as far as getting a seated. I decided to get the catfish and it tasted really good but the potatoes that I had were kind of cold. I assume because we arrive close to them closing for the day that may have been the reason but I wasn't a big fan of the potatoes anyway so I didn't make a stink about it. I couldn't possibly be any more impressed with Batter & Berries, they absolutely knock it out of the park. I got the poutine and the serving size was massive! I very rarely have leftovers and I took about half of it to go because I was so full. We also got the mini French toast flight and I would say it was the best French toast I've ever had from a restaurant. My favorite was the caramel, closely followed by the blueberry lemon. If you follow me, you know how I feel about Batters & Berries. It's a no-brainer - whenever I am in Chicago, we're going. I think having rotating French toast flavors is one of the most brilliant ideas, and when they are executed like Batters & Berries does - it's surely a treat. Parking was a breeze, the new location is also a bit more spacious, with plenty of seating and the familiar warm vibes of the others. I was recommended to try this brunch spot because it was close to our hotel in chicago. I was also excited because it was a black owned restaurant that the mayor frequence as well. However Once I arrived I was told that they were only taking to go orders due to some technical difficulties. So I decided to order my meal to go. I ordered their basic breakfast and requested my hash browns be extra crispy. The wait wasn't too long and I thought it was interesting that you had an option of a portabella mushroom instead of bacon. I chose to go with the chicken breast. Once my food was done I requested some condiments to go with the meal. I was not impressed with my hash browns as they were not as requested however the flavorfulness of the fried chicken breast was incredible! I don't recommend this place!!! Our waitress was awesome!! She was not the reason for this poor review. The inside is so cute but we were very quickly dissatisfied. My friend and I ordered breakfast sandwiches and they got my order wrong. I asked for ham but received bacon. I told our waitress and she took it back to the kitchen, apologized, and then got my food around 10 minutes later. Mind you, it took like 30 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Also, the eggs made my friend and I sick. We asked for them scrambled but they were very runny. My friend couldn't even finish them and I had a stomach ache later on. Make sure you check in with the host if you get in the yelp waiting line!! Normally I will receive a text saying "your table is ready, please see host" but my text said "please check in with host upon arrival." This was just a misunderstanding on my part so I wasn't too upset. I'm more disappointed with the over priced food, wait times for service, and the quality/accuracy of the food. This was my second visit to Batters and Berries, and my first at their new State Street location. My sister had gone earlier in the week and loved it. We came on a Sunday expecting a long wait, but were seated in under 10 minutes. That's where the good part ended. Our table was directly under a freezing A/C vent--so strong it blew napkins and plasticware off the table. We told our server, who admitted it's a frequent complaint, but nothing could be done. Within seconds of our food arriving, everything--eggs, hash browns, chicken, and French toast--went cold. The coffee cooled immediately. I asked to move and have my food remade. Sadly, most items were just reheated. The eggs were chewy and browned at the bottom, the chicken dry, and the hash browns bland (especially without cheese). The French toast was slightly better after being warmed but still underwhelming. Also, I was initially served plastic utensils--for a $40+ meal. Real silverware came later, but by then, the food was already a miss. My sister enjoyed the French toast flight (especially lemon and strawberry), and our friend liked the salmon croquettes. But even they said the food could've been warmer. The worst part? Minutes after we moved, another group was seated at that same cold table--and started complaining too. I want to support Black-owned restaurants and see them thrive. But comfort and consistency matter. I'd give it another shot if they can make the proper adjustments. It is a bustling cafe with both table and bar seating. I really enjoyed the food here. They are known for their French toast and I highly recommend getting their French toast flight. Morgan was the hostess-Fathers day -2026- we arrived @12pm & joined waitlist. We were told it would be a 45min wait. & advised to download "YELP" to track spot in line. Did that ---we started out 23 in line. Time progressed 45 mins became 1hr. I went inside to inquire as several groups arrived after my party of four were seated before us. I was told they joined waitlist online & according to Yelp we were now 17 in line . We decided to stay and noticed we had been waiting for 2hrs . Went inside saw empty tables --was told by Morgan we were 7 in line. Went back outside then decided to order through Uber Eats to take home. Went inside 30 minutes after Oder to get food. Told Morgan about the Uber order she said with haste & attitude "You can not sit in here to eat ". That was never the idea as I gave my spot to another patron - party of 3 . I told Morgan not to cancel me on the waitlist . Even though Yelp said I was still 5 in line Morgan immediately gave a table to the People who had my spot. I told her she was wrong and that her actions were suspect . I said since I told you about my Uber Eats order tables became suspiciously available. I mentioned I was writing a Yelp review about her. Only then did Morgan change her position . Now she was ready to sit us with the party of three or give us a table of our own . I realized after waiting nearly 2 hrs & 45 minutes that Morgan could have used discretion much sooner as she later stated after being aware of a Yelp review. Morgan's actions were inconsiderate as it was raining outdoors as well. She had a bad attitude & I told her I was a repeat customer and this experience had me feeling unappreciated . FINALLY, A PANCAKE BREAKFAST PLACE IN THE SOUTH LOOP near McCormick convention center. There may be a wait of 15 to 30mins if you're coming during peak hours noon-1pm, as the place is not that big. The food is your typical breakfast place (a step up from Denny's and Original Pancake House). The menu is short, but sweet . As we were in a rush, we ordered The Traditional - typical two eggs, cheese with hashbrowns and your choice of bacon, ham, portobello mushrooms (not your typical option). PRO TIP: never order scrambled as the cracked eggs are usually sitting in a bucket for who knows how long. Instead, order "eggs over hard", which is basically scrambled except they use fresh eggs. I also recommend ordering the bacon instead of the sausage patties , and asked for "well done", because they're not very crispy as they are on the thick side. Also, if you want crispy hashbrowns, skip the cheese as it made the hashbrowns gooey and soggy. They do ask you whether you want the hashbrowns with the cheese or not when you're ordering it, so pay attention. The Customer service was friendly. The wait time on the food was a bit on the long side. Make sure to ask your server to check on the food because sometimes it's ready and waiting to be brought out. read more

The take out experience was uncomfortable and disappointing. When I provided my name for order pickup the hostess tilts her head and says, "ooooh reallyyyy". I was so confused and uncomfortable about the interaction. On top of this the biscuits and gravy were terrible. The biscuits were rock hard. We ended up throwing away all our food. This really ruined my day and start of my morning. I've been supportive of Batter and Berries and had been eating at the Lincoln park location since 2015. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the electronic waitlist system. We were informed that only three parties were ahead of us, and we noticed several tables that were already set and appeared ready to be seated. Although our wait was only about 15 minutes, it was somewhat frustrating to see multiple available tables remain unoccupied during that time. When we were finally seated, the host led us past several empty tables, many of which were filled shortly afterward. As we reviewed the menu, a server stopped at a nearby table and informed them she would be with them shortly. Assuming she may have also been responsible for our section, we continued waiting. However, she proceeded to assist multiple tables around us while no one acknowledged ours. When I politely asked when someone would be assisting us, she responded, "You're not my table," and walked away. After waiting approximately five more minutes without any service, I approached the host stand and spoke with a manager. I explained that we had been seated for about 15 minutes without being greeted or assisted. The manager immediately accompanied me back to our table, apologized, and personally took our order. Once our food arrived, we found it to be flavorful but unfortunately not served at an appropriate temperature, as it was cold. During the meal, a server from another section stopped by to ask whether we needed anything, and later the host returned to inform us that he had inadvertently failed to assign a server to our table. Overall, the restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and the food showed promise in terms of flavor. However, the service experience was disappointing, and the issues with both table assignment and food temperature significantly detracted from what could have otherwise been a very enjoyable visit. read more

Unfortunately, when the food arrived, my plate was served cold--not lukewarm, but completely cold. It was disappointing, especially considering the reputation this place has. I brought it to our waitress's attention, and to her credit, she did apologize and promptly took the plate back to have it remade. While I appreciated her professionalism, we still had to wait a considerable amount of time for the corrected dish to be brought out. When the food finally arrived hot, it was good, but by then, the experience had already taken a turn. What made matters worse was the pricing. The waitress never mentioned any price upfront, and nothing on the menu suggests that this dish would cost $30--especially since no item listed is over $28. We were both shocked to see that amount on the bill for a single plate. No special pricing was disclosed, no upgrades mentioned--just a surprise charge that felt completely out of line with the rest of the menu. While I appreciate the apology and the eventual meal, the lack of transparency around pricing and the initial quality control really soured the experience. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and ensures both better communication with customers and consistency in food quality. I've been to the Lincoln Park location numerous times in the past and I've seen this location has opened this year so I thought I'd give it a try. I came on a Sunday afternoon around breakfast & brunch rush so but we got lucky with street parking. The place is small but maybe bigger than their other location. There is no reservations but once we arrived we were able to check in and see our order in line. They originally quoted us about 35-45 minutes but it didn't take that long for a table of 3. Similar to their Lincoln park location, this location is BYOB. They have a bar seating area but they don't serve alcohol. At first we were seated directly across from the doors, which left us feeling chilly as there is a draft that comes in. After some time a couple tables left and we were able to get another table further away from the entrance. The staff and waiter were pretty accommodating and cleaned the table for us. If it feels awkward it's because it's really snug between tables. Anyways now on to the food. I take it people don't come here for coffee. 2 of us ordered coffee and it was alright, they give a small shot of what I'm assuming was half and half. They don't ask you for your preferences in cream. Anywho, the waiter went over the specials with us, we thought we knew what wanted until that point. I got the lamb chop special which came with eggs and hash browns and the French toast flight, the rest of my party ordered a kids stack of chocolate chip pancakes, the catfish breakfast and their special egg not French toast. It didn't seem to take long for the food to arrive. I barely finished my cup of coffee before the staff brought out our plates. The food was so delicious, my lamb chops were seasoned perfectly & cooked to my preference. I really liked the cheesy hash browns also. I think I was able to try 2 of the French toast slices before throwing in the towel. I was pleasantly stuffed. I'll be back at this location when it's a bit warmer. Walked in on a Friday at 2pm and was seated right away. Instantly greeted with water and menus. Ordered a Cluck-N-Gauffe (Goof), Salmon Croquette, BFF Chicken Sandwich, Super Flight (special pineapple upside down, strawberry, blueberry, lemon, and caramel) Our food came within 11 mins of ordering. This was a horrible experience, I went with my mom, sister, and her friend, we all ordered at the same time, the food took about 40 minutes before it even started coming out, Once my mom and sister got their food, it took at least another 10 minutes for my sister's friend to get her food. I went there early Saturday morning, and it wasn't as crowded. Which was a great thing. So I was there with my godmother and her best friend for early Mother's Day breakfast. And I would say it was okay. The one up north was so much better. My godmother ordered a Belgian Waffle, and I'd like to see the other people's Belgian waffles. I seen other's belgium Waffle before she received hers and it was like 2 tone as far as collar, dark and then medium in tone of color and of course, the darkness means that it was overcooked on that particular side. So when she received hers, it was, it was really, really hard. And so she explained, for some reason, the cook came out from the back for whatever reason. She asked was everything okay ( like she was guilty of something) and my godmother told her no. The Waffle was extremely overcooked and her attitude was so nasty. Like either, you take it or you don't. So my godmother decided to get the lemon french toast instead, but her attitude was so unnecessary and so uncalled for , so we told the manager so she said that she would have a word with her.
