I have a huge sweet tooth so I was really excited to hear about Smallcakes coming to Danville and to try it out. My friend and I came during the week right when the shop opened. We were welcomed with smiles and a beautiful display of amazing and delicious looking cupcakes. I bought several to try but immediately gobbled up the Birthday Cake cupcake. Every cupcake has that homemade taste-perfectly sweetened frosting and moist buttery cake. This will be a regular spot for my sweet fix! Update: I posted this above review a year ago. They have gigantic sample portions and the staff are super friendly. They also have small batch ice cream. We tried the chocolate w cookies and cream buttercream frosting and birthday cake. This is a super cute little store in Danville. The owner is welcoming and constantly smiling. The cupcakes are big! And that's not normally a complaint. They have a nice range of flavors and they look appetizing. They bake then in the morning , so if you come in late and they are sold out, tough I ordered a dozen chocolate cupcakes for my son's birthday. I was busy and didn't have the time to bake them. The frosting was pure sugar and left a terrible after taste. It didn't taste chocolatey at all. And the actual cake part? Tasted like a box mix and again lacked the chocolate flavor. And how many cupcakes were fully eaten by the kids? None. And that says it all for me. read more

I just ordered a 6" round Banana Split cake for my son's 8th grade promotion and they recreated the cupcake perfectly. Banana cake with small chunks of banana, strawberry filling, whipped cream with nuts sprinkled along the edge of the cake. My kid was so happy to have such a yummy cake for dessert! Came here for some ice cream but ended up with cupcakes to take home. The ice cream was excellent. We had the red velvet, chocolate, and mint chip. I thought the red velvet was the best but they were all divine. The cupcakes we brought home were the red velvet, peanut butter cup, chocolate/vanilla, caramel crunch, and lemon. I found all of them to be delicious but my 70 year old mother found the lemon to be too sweet. This cupcake place was my go to place for cakes but they are doing too many different types of cupcakes now. I tried two because the one I wanted was a once a year cupcake in the last 2 visits, I can't remember the first ones name, it was so long, 'nothing special about it.' The next one was just awful, Coffee cinnamon something with a marshmallow drizzle. It was so sweet I had to toss it after one bite and rinse out my mouth. It was $4.60. Also it literally did not have a coffee taste to the cupcake. They are trying too hard to be different and have lost the deliciousness and value of a yummy cupcake. This review is tainted by my own textural preferences for frosting, so keep in mind what you like in a frosting before placing too much stock in my review... I hate to say it, but I don't care for the cupcakes here. The cake is moist and crumb texture is good, but I don't like the frosting. Personally I prefer a more toothsome frosting that is a little denser, and a little sweeter and packs a little more flavor. All of the frostings were too light for my taste. Not quite swiss buttercream light, but close. And they all tasted the same. Also, I was disappointed that the red velvet cupcake just had buttercream frosting and not cream cheese frosting. Sadly, I would not go back here for cupcakes. The ice cream is not bad though. Hubby had a scoop of ice cream and it was tasty. If I came back, it would only be for ice cream. read more
