The dessert was just as good--soft, flavorful, and topped with the perfect crunch for contrast. You can tell Cafe 86 knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to ube. It's a great late-night dessert spot with a relaxed vibe and consistently solid quality. If you're an ube fan (or trying it for the first time), Cafe 86 is a must.

One thing to note: they open late--12:30 PM. Parking was easy, and there's a decent amount of seating inside. I happened to be the first customer of the day. Don't expect the warm, smiley Filipino hospitality right away--just head straight to the counter and place your order on the iPad. As for the halo-halo, it's definitely not your traditional version. It wasn't bad by any means, but it's quite different from the halo-halo I grew up with and the ones I enjoy whenever I visit Manila. If you're looking for a modern take on the classic dessert, you may appreciate it more than I did. Prices are pretty standard for Los Angeles, and they accept Apple Pay, which is always a plus.

What a cute Vietnamese restaurant!!!…read more I love the beautiful outdoor seating amongst the greenery and lanterns with the Vietnamese clubbing music. Takes me back to Vietnam for a little bit. They have a simple menu but make everything well. I enjoyed the chicken wings with steamed rice. The wings were so good. A bit crunchy, very juicy, the sauce was sweet and savory. There was a ton of garlic and jalepeno. It was so delicious. And the steamed rice paired beautifully. The texture of the rice was so good. My partner had the chicken pho and shaking beef with garlic noodles. He enjoyed them both. He said the chicken was very tender and juicy. The noodles with the beef was his favorite. We both got pandan mung bean drink and fried bananas of course. The fried banana takes time to make, but worth the wait. It's so crunchy! Can't wait to come back to try the rice cakes next time.

Fish sauce wings are spot on (if you don't go to Westminster lol). Tangy, mini crunch on the outside, and juicy and moist on the inside. Plus, jampacked with garlic (cooked with a good amount of butter). Not quite sure if the jalapeños do (or taste) anything, but sure why not. Shrimp was good, clean (removed residuals), and not overcooked. Lazy to peel the shrimp skin so I usually eat it. Garlic noodles are great. Slightly oily but better than most places. Lastly, got the Hainan chicken. A bit disappointing by the quantity for the price ($14), but the rice tasted good. I'd personally stick with the shrimp or fish sauce wings. The best part of this place are their fried bananas. I like to get the whole piece and eat it at the end with my refreshing calamansi coco drink. Crispy and fun on the inside because the banana is melted along the exterior hard shell. I recommend the whole fried banana instead of the pieces. Overall, a bit pricey but worth the experience.

The ice cream cart is located in front of Alfred's coffee, so just head over in that direction. They are also only open only on Friday, Sat and Sunday. So the cart is located in the patio section so there are lots of tables to sit at and it's a nice relaxing vibe during the evenings. The girl who served us was also really nice and let me try the flavors I wanted. Everything sounded delicious! I opted for the Konafa and it was absolutely delicious. The texture is rich and creamy but not too sweet and the crunch from the phyllo made for the perfect spoonful. I can't wait to go back to try more flavors!

The flavors are middle eastern of rose, saffron, baklava, pistachio, and orange. Everything tasted wonderful and was not overly sweet or overpowering. The sour cherry with the fairy floss was my favorite and my boyfriend enjoyed his Saffron Pistachio. Honestly, both were equally delightful. Really enjoyed their ice cream and will check out the Pasadena location. For now, this cart is only open Fridays through Sunday. Love the little touch of a dried rose on top of the ice cream!
