Wanted to try a new dessert place. Churro Sundae- Comes with a churro base and two scoops of ice cream with a topping. The taste was good but here are my two issues that made this a 3 star rating instead of a 4 star rating- 1) Price is a little steep at $15. 2) If I am going to pay $15 for this product I want it to be really good and not just pretty good. Pretty quiet when I went and I think the tables could be cleaned more often, especially with sticky food. Nice place to sit and eat since it is cool. Staff is friendly. It was easy to find in the mall since it is right next to the parking lot. Easy accessible and lots of parking , even for a Friday. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered a churro and we actually enjoyed it very much. It's been hard finding a good churro place in the valley. Typically we come here for funnel cake but we were really craving churros and this place opens pretty late. It was pretty good dipped in chocolate. It was fresh and made to order. You can add toppings to it like fruit! Whip cream, chocolate sauce! I decided on classic vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry combo and it was sooooooo good. They also give a free churro if you check in on yelp which the churro was also fresh and very delicious! I'm sure that if one went to this location one would have a wonderful funnel cake. I didn't - I was craving a sweet and it came up on DoorDash but it was way out of my delivery sphere so there was an extra charge for that, which I didn't mind at all. But it's a good thirty minutes away from Sherman Oaks and while it had a tiny bit of warmth left when it arrived, it just doesn't travel that distance well. I enjoyed it, it was tasty - only my second time having a funnel cake, the first time being in St. Louis. And do NOT microwave - it does not like the microwave. Anyway, next time I'm out that way, I'll do an in-house visit. However, I give my review one star for being so bereft of my usual personality, which is sparkling and normally amusing. This thing reads like a class paper, doesn't it? It needs some perk, it needs some elan, it needs some joie de vivre. So, let's boil it down to it's essence, since there is nothing better than a boiled review - don't order via DoorDash if you're too far away. Go there and enjoy in person. The service needs work. A worker left me and my boyfriend at the register while he was chatting with his female workers for 3 minutes. Although, the female worker was very accommodating and nice. The ice cream and funnel cake were yummy, but the icecream sandwiches were hard to bite into because the cookies were hard, almost stale. Recently, after dinner at the nearby sushi place with our family (daughter, SIL, and granddaughter), we passed on their dessert offerings, and instead went to The Funnel House. Our daughter had a plan - order one funnel cake, then take it home where she had fresh fruit, ice cream, and whipped cream so that we could dress up a piece however we chose. That turned out to be a good idea, and cutting the one cake into five pieces, adding as many toppings as we wanted worked out just fine. Strawberries and blueberries were involved. The reasons for only a two star rating include a dining room that seemed on the grimy side. The tables and chairs weren't particularly clean, and didn't seem like they had been in a while. The one lone employee wasn't very well trained. I had a check-in reward from Yelp, and when I showed it to him, he had no idea about it at all. From his reaction, it seemed like he'd worked there for only a very short time and all they'd shown him how to do was to fry the funnel cakes and collect the money. Everything else about the business seemed to be beyond his experience. When we did get the funnel cake home (one cake without toppings was over $10, as I recall), it was on the over-cooked side, so instead of cutting easily, it required a lot of carving action. I bought their traditional churro and boy was it sweet! What I do enjoy is they make everything fresh and nothing is frozen besides their ice cream in which they have many flavors to choose from. My boyfriend ordered from this spot on a whim to satisfy our sugar cravings while watching this Sunday's episode of House of the Dragon. I really wish I could say we were satisfied, because I really don't like writing negative reviews, but we definitely were not satisfied. The okay: The Funnel cake was probably the most acceptable item, but wasn't anything to write home about either. We got the powdered funnel cake with strawberry and banana topping, which was more of a jam with the fruit mixed in. We ate more of this than of any of the other items. The bad: In addition to the funnel cake, we ordered 3 cookies each to try with a variation of: chocolate chip, m&m, peanut butter, and white chocolate macadamia nut. The cookies were dry, and while the menu states fresh-baked - these certainly did not seem so. They also seemed to be lacking butter. My boyfriend also grabbed brownies, and they were similarly dry, and possibly stale. We ended up tossing the majority of the food. Love that this spot exists! It's so rare to find a place that makes funnel cakes other than theme parks and we have a craving for these every now and then. Tried this spot a while back, only one worker but it also wasn't busy or anything. In fact, my bf and I were the only ones in there. We went for a funnel cake with salted caramel, Nutella, condensed milk, and cherries on the side. It's nice that they give it to you on the side to basically build it yourself. I ordered it once through postmates and that's how it came as well! That way it's not all soggy and gross when you get it. Usually I don't write reviews but I had a very bad experience at this place. The employees are very rude. I recently went and had to wait a few minutes just for my order to be taken. Wait time is no issue but it wasn't busy at all. The employees were just talking to each other and didn't even consider it was waiting to order. Okay, so we come down to the area frequently to visit our granddaughter. Our three adult children were all with us for Father's Day weekend and we wanted something sweet in the evening as we all had a late lunch together. I was tasked with finding a dessert site. I threw it out to my daughters and they were "down". We headed over about 7:30 on Father's Day evening. Funnel House is located at the mall and I was a bit disappointed as I thought it was stand alone. My daughters found a table and we checked out the items on the board. I don't know if there is only one person on duty most of the time but on this night there was only one. We went up and ordered two (2) Fundaes and one Red Bull Smoothie. We paid and the gentleman told us to take a seat and he would take us through the process when it was our turn. He went about fulfilling other orders very methodically as he was the only one on duty. He pulled our funnel cakes from the deep fryer and had the Red Bull smoothie done. We went up and chose two (2) different flavors of ice cream and our desired topping for each "Fundae". My wife and I split one and our daughters split the other. My son had the smoothie. The Fundaes were AMAZING and there was plenty for two people to share. My son really enjoyed the smoothie also. All were reasonably priced and I was extremely impressed with the one young man behind the counter. I definitely hit the tip jar as The Funnel House was a nice wrap to my Father's Day weekend.
