6 years later, thought it was time to update my review! Magpies has been consistently excellent every time I visit. Their flavors from the consistent ones like corn almond to seasonal such as apple cider donut are always phenomenal. Customer service is always great as well. It's a small shop with some seating outside and the parking lot is small but there is always an open spot. Their toppings are very unique and it's always fun trying new ones. I can't recommend magpies enough!! PS. Many vegan flavors!!! read more

It was a hot day couple of weekends ago when I came here to check it out. This is fairly close to me and I didn't even know about this place until I was searching for desserts in my area. When I arrived there was no one else so I just browsed through the selection and they had ube flavor so I got that and I needed to try a pie so I got the pistachio baklava pie. Service was quick and efficient, since it's my first time she warned me that the pie will melt quickly - I live nearby so that's not a problem. I had the ube soft serve in my car - not my favorite as the ube flavor is not close to the ube taste that I'm used to. So next time I'll skip that. However the magpie pistachio baklava is very good! I love pistachio so this didn't disappoint. Will try other flavors soon! read more

A fun first visit to this local ice cream shop! It's cozy inside but well worth the trip. I was able to try a few samples before I made my choice. I settled on the swirl of corn almond and chocolate... the corn almond didn't intrigue me at first but it exceeded expectations! Definitely make sure you try it. They don't offer any indoor seating but there were tables outside on the patio. Parking was easy and the staff were friendly. My only feedback is that I would recommend having a water station for customers... ice cream has a way of making you thirsty, even if the ice cream is incredibly tasty (as is the case here). Not a vegan and I love this ice cream cake . You wont even notice, it's so good. The honeycomb cake is amazing!!! Truthfully eat the cake more than just soft serve but definitely worth trying. And if you go in I believe you can still try a flavor or two before purchasing. read more

We have passed this place so many times and we always talk about stopping by to grab some softserve! We finally stopped in after dinner, the parking lot is average, its in a busy little plaza but there seemed to be no problem with finding a spot. The shop is small but it is decorated so nice and it's very CLEAN! Magpies has about 8 different flavors to pick from each day! They have a selection that you can get two different ones swirled together as well! They also offer many different toppings for an additional $1 each. We ordered a mini cup of the Sweet Cream and Malted Chocolate as well as a waffle cone of the Kahlua coffee and vanilla bean. All of the flavors were SO tasty! This was definitely one of the better softserves in the area! We appreciated that you could place your order on the touch screen that way you had time to customize what you want! The waffle cone was very good as well, perfect crunch! We definitely want to go back and try a slice of their softserve pie, they looked SO TASTY! Definitely stop by this summer and cool off with a tasty treat! They will not disappoint! read more

Decided to stop at magpies to order whole pie for a girls night. Due to some food restrictions, I really want to get their gluten free and vegan oreo coffee soft serve pie but they were sold out! Second choice was the oreo and cream soft serve pie but also sold out. My third choice ended up being the pistachio baklava soft serve pie and it didn't disappoint. I was looking for something that was not overly sweet and this was fairly balanced but the candied pistachios were a little too sweet. Overall the customer service was pretty good! Both females upfront were extremely helpful and did apologize for being out of stock for my first options. At least I know what to come back and try :) Their parking is a little small but not the worst in the area. It's located on Ventura Blvd, a pretty active Main Street. The shop is extremely clean and inviting, I look forward to coming back to try other options. read more

This place was so good! We got a mini ice cream and two pies, their original pie and the strawberry shortcake. All were great options. The original pie was my favorite. It's an ice cream pie with honeycomb and whipped cream. The service was good, friendly staff and they helped explain the options. Inside the shop was pretty small but it wasn't crowded so it was easy to get in, order and take home. I wish we waited a little longer to eat the pie because it was nearly frozen solid but it was still good and didn't deter us from eating it right away. I've been a fan of Magpie's ever since they opened this location 8 years ago. The owners are really good people & take pride in the quality and flavors of their ice cream creations. I love that they have choices of dairy and vegan flavors (oat milk, almond milk & coconut milk) - My favorite is the malted milk chocolate. They also sell amazing pies! So many choices! Stopped by looking for some dessert after having dinner in the area. I love ice cream especially soft serve so Magpies looked like the perfect spot. They have a nice assortment of flavors with standouts like brown sugar milk tea, chocolate banana, and churro! We got two mini swirls with milk tea/vanilla bean and sweet cream/ malted milk chocolate. Both hit the spot and you can customize with toppings too! We ordered delivery from here because we were craving soft serve and were also intrigued by the pies. I am not vegan or GF nor do I try to be...but many of the offerings here are and I could not tell! We got the vanilla and chocolate soft serve with a hard chocolate shell and also the Cookies & Cream soft serve pie...I would order both again in a heartbeat! If you are a fan of ice cream cake I think their soft serve pies are such a unique option that hit the spot! Some ice cream cakes can be too sweet but this was perfect. Magpies is still perfection. It has something for everyone. Have a friend who can't do gluten and another one that's vegan? No problem. Have a husband who loves dairy? Perfect because they can all go there and be happy. The soft serve (whether dairy free or full of dairy) is delicious. And the toppings are great. The pies are so good. This place is near me, and thought I would finally stop by. It was cute and thankfully there is a parking lot. I got the strawberry flavor and have to say it was very delicious and refreshing. First time trying their soft serve, solid 10/10! I came here because I wanted Costco soft serve but they were already closed. Was pleasantly surprised and it exceeded my expectations. Definitely better than Costco. After I came, the line started popping! I didn't realize this gem was just here on Ventura Blvd. Love the dairy free options! Everything is made from scratch, they claim. Nice local spot. It's grab and go. There's a bench outside. They allow samples to help you decide what you want and they're nice about it. I have been craving soft serve for weeks but was too lazy to get any until the other day. The 20 minute drive was worth it! They have a good variety of flavors and you are able to taste 2 samples per person. Good thing my daughter was with me...I got to share her samples too! I went with the "chocolate malted" dairy based swirled with the "sweet cream" also dairy based in a sugar waffle cone. It was good. *FYI: if your choices can be swirled i recommend getting one flavor on top of the over to avoid one flavor overpowering the other. My daughter went with the "strawberry shortcake" vegan based with rainbow sprinkles. I'm still finding sprinkles all over my car! Oy... It was very tasty! Both cones were $14 plus I gave a 20% tip. I first tried Magpies cakes at an event they were at and after that, I knew I had to head to their brick-and-mortar stores for more. The location is pretty small and there's limited seating outside, along with some parking in the strip mall. With my group, we tried the baklava cake and the strawberry/banana cake. I love this place. They make some of the best soft serve in the valley. They have gluten and dairy free options as well (and it doesn't suck). The frozen pies are amazing as well. The first time I had one of their pies, I was amazed at how good it was. I stopped at this location numerous times, but the last time I was there, I got a piece of pie to go. Drove all the way home to North Hollywood and the pie tasted like refrigerator. There was no flavor other than icky refrigerator. For the price of the piece of pie, I just can't get myself to go back. Very sad because I thought it was amazing. read more

I've heard many good things about this place so I had to try for myself, and omg best soft serve in a cup! PLUS it's nondairy, which I totally need for myself!! There are both vegan and dairy options at this place. I got the must try, popular, corn almond soft serve with brown sugar oats. The soft serve tastes like corn flakes but 1000x better (I say this because I don't like corn flakes cereal, but soft serve vegan form I loved)!! The brown sugar oats added a nice texture and crunch that complimented both flavors together. The menu is not overwhelming, but yet there is lots of variety. The workers are nice and helpful! They made our first time experience pop out and even offered samples! The shop is pretty small, so when it gets busy expect to be waiting outside to get in. There is a cool painted wall for a nice picture to take of your soft serve/pie when you visit :) I will definitely be coming back to get the fried soft serve pie!! read more

I genuinely wish I lived closer to this place! I used to live in Calabasas for most of my life, but didn't discover Magpies until I began the moving process. I would love to visit the Silver Lake and Highland locations, but Tarzana's spot most definitely has magnificent flavors and service! It's an adorable soft serve place with a colorfully painted wall to take pictures in front of. There's not much space to sit down but more than what many soft serve shops offer. My favorite flavors are brown sugar vanilla and corn almond (both dairy free). I can't wait to try more of their flavors soon! read more

While I still enjoy the frozen treats, I do not agree with the methods they are employing during these "extraordinary" times. The service has changed drastically and it is no longer enjoyable to visit. Samples are no longer available. Why? To protect whom? Well, they have regained their senses. They offer tastes again. How civilized. The make delicious desserts but use WAY TOO MUCH whipped cream. A pie is more than 50% whipped cream. And, when I wanted to special order with out it, they wouldn't do it. How disappointing. So much for customer service. I will say that I like the art on the wall with the neon soft swirls. Despite all this, I wish they had more locations. And, offered more of a variety. They have gluten free options, what about GRAIN free options. No oats, please. read more

Stopped by on a slow Sunday afternoon and was excited to try all the yummy stuff Magpies had to offer. We ordered two soft serves and two slices of pie - our total was about $33. The soft serves were OK, tasted more like froyo than soft serve. We ordered a slice of the cookie butter pie and pumpkin pie - which were both good but not for $10 a slice. Th everything we ordered seemed to be premade as it was ready as soon as we completed our order on the kiosk. When is a $9 slice of cake justifiable? When it's a magpies soft serve ice cream slice! Delicious! It's a big slice thankfully so it's basically the price equivalent of a sundae with the works. They have lots of different cake flavors, the "cake" part is soft serve with cookie crumble crusts. $9.75/slice $50/whole cake I really love they sell just a slice to enjoy. Came here to try their soft serve pies on National Ice Cream Day! Had the Thai tea and their signature pie, highlights below: Pros: - Their signature pie is definitely a signature! The honeycomb was delicious and not too sweet but offered a nice contrast of textures and flavors. - Lots of parking in their parking lot Cons: - Thai tea pie didn't have a strong Thai tea flavor- could barely taste it. I would not get again. - No indoor seating and it was a hot day so we had to eat in the car - Often times the pies were both too sweet Overall, I'd come again if there was a new interesting flavor to try but otherwise wouldn't. Came here for the first time the other day. I was very happy when I tried the corn vanilla flavor I got a waffle cone and enjoyed the ride home. The person at the counter was very nice and helped with a couple of samples (2 maximum I was informed). Unlike that they had a bunch of dairy free choices as milk and cream in ice cream doesn't play well with my stomach. One cone, one mini and one regular was just under $35 (ouch I know) but hey I had some really great soft serve that helped me beat the heat. read more

Unfortunately, we realized that we had to decide between possibly not being led into our reserved seat at the theater or missing out on this delicious dessert. It was just a matter of not realizing how long it would take. I don't blame Somisomi because they had a huge number of ahbong to make fresh, and of course, there was no way to cut in line We ended up telling the lovely staff that we had to leave, and to please give our orders under "Coco" to someone for free so it wouldn't be wasted.
