I've been collecting used batteries to recycle. As it turns out, I needed special batteries for my car's key fob and I knew where to go. Rather than wait for an online delivery, I knew that B+ had to have it. Turns out they did, and i immediately replaced the batteries in the fob (after first finding a screwdriver to open the cover). I also bought a case of AA batteries (on sale) and recycled a box of batteries. read more

These places are convenient, but they can't change most car key fob batteries, and they are erratic about honoring their lifetime battery deals. The service here is a bit better than average for Batterieses Plus, if that's how to pluralize them. They do have some cool flashlights, I got one that I of course don't need. I came here to get a replacement battery for my key fob. My cars dash has been showing me that the key fob had a low battery. When I went in they told me it would be $18. I have 2 key fobs so that would have been $36 (before tax). That seemed way to excessive so I declined. Today I went to Walmart to see if they had my battery for my key fob a CR 2032. I found a 4 pack of Duracell Batteries for $11.74 (before tax). I'm so glad I thought of going to see if they carried my battery. She told me its in extra charge and gave me the scissors to open it and do it myself. She could of just told me the extra cost is how many $$$. This is a multi part review. First will talk about the stores. They are plenty and offer decent array of hard to find battery related items. Prices aren't the best but for convenience 'I need right now', that's what you pay. That's the reason it's a 2 star review. Next let's talk about car batteries. I purchased one in January, 2023. It's November 2023. I purchased it at the Touhy Ave location. The purchase was online and uneventful. I used a coupon to make it price point compatible with other places. The pick up was easy, small pleasant talk. Brief statement of the warranty and off to the races. This is all for the good parts. Let's get into this 3 year warranty. The warranty is a 3 year REPLACEMENT if defective with a 14 day cash back period. This is fine if the customer service after the sale of the product was designed in favor of the customer. Which is not! Here is the what I mean. My car was acting up and took it to the mechanic. He checked it and said that the issue was a starter and also the battery was not holding a full charge and was forcing the car to struggle starting and that is what kept causing the check engine light to come on. I needed to replace both. Well, I had a warranty so, sure. Easy enough. Let's swap it out and go. Nope. After a conversation with store, they explained that I would need to bring the car in so they could test it under charge. How can I do that if the car is in the shop. Another solution is to bring the battery in so they can test it. If it's low or dead they will keep the battery for 24 hours to charge to full capacity. Big problem. My car is in the shop and they are asking me to be without a car for additional 24 hours and have to make 2 trips to the store, without a car. This is an 'inconvenience' that is passed on to the customer. I was not in a situation where I felt I could do either. Since the car was in the shop and I was not going to haul a battery across town in public transit or Uber since I obviously did not have a car. Even if I did have a car and took it there and they had to charge my battery, how would I get home from there and back then?!? Their solution is BUY ANOTHER battery while we charge yours. What?!? Why would I do that? I don't need 2 batteries. And I didn't want to spend $220 for another battery. Their warranty terms are one sided and not in the favor of the consumer. Another part of the review is that the person at the store was condescending and demeaning. The conversation about the warranty was fine until I expressed my disappointment with how the warranty was one sided. His attitude changed immediately acting as if he was doing me a favor for me shopping and buying an obviously defective product from his shop. He kept yelling over me and would not give me his name. Even at the threat of calling corporate. Obviously very unprofessional and disrespectful. Lastly, I called corporate. The rep who dealt with my complaint was nice and calm and she took the complaint and also FURTHER explained that car battery warranty was difficult because of the nature of the product and, if I bought another battery, they would refund one of them as we sorted everything out. Even though the corporate rep was pleasant, the damage was done. I will NEVER buy anything from Batteries Plus again. Do your research. Chicago weather is rough on batteries. Don't want you to get caught off guard as I did with this warranty ordeal. In closing, I bought another battery from Costco at half the price with a prorated warranty for 36 months, just to avoid dealing with Batteries Plus any more. read more

My battery for my iPhone 6 was dead and I needed to repair it. I would've gone to Apple but I found this place for a better price. I came into the store thinking I must change my battery and the screen, for the side of my phone was on the verge of breaking. But the worker there told me that because my phones battery had expanded, my screen had been lifted. He recommended that I change the battery first then see if I wanted to change the screen as well. I left and came back after 30min and my phone was ready. To my surprise, my iPhone screen was perfectly fine. It was because of my dead battery. Thanks to him I saved a ton of money! Harriet, the manager, was very helpful and very friendly. I needed a new battery for my Samsung Galaxy Tablet (which I bought from U.S. Cellular). I went to two U.S. Cellular stores, neither of them had the battery, nor would they order it, nor would they offer to install it for me if I were to bring the tablet and new battery in. As I was walking out of the second U.S. Cellular store (in the same strip mall as Batteries Plus), I was pretty disappointed at the prospect of owning a $300 paperweight. I saw the "Batteries Plus" sign, and figured, what the heck, I'll stop in and see if they had the battery I needed. They didn't. But they ordered it for me. And a week later, I had the battery! I went online for step by step instructions on YouTube on how to replace the battery. It was fairly easy. Now my tablet is equipped with a new battery, and my Galaxy Tab won't be a useless paperweight. They have A LOT of batteries in stock, on the shelves. If they don't, they'll order it for you. Once again this store (Niles on Touhy) did not disappoint! I needed 2 batteries for a disability assistive device and George couldn't have been more helpful. On the phone he he was able to pull up my account to see exactly what I needed and told me he had them available. Then at the store he took the care to figure out how the battery pack even opened (because it is not a common item), tested each battery and proceeded to tell me I still had power in one of them and offered to only sell me one! Let me tell you something about this place....I been to a couple of other stores...and no, it's not cause it is the closest one to me....because it is. All the staff and the other two locations I been at were happy and helpful....but this lot....they very happy and very knowledgeable....down to the store manager. I had gone in there a month or so ago asking about a extended battery for my Galaxy S3, then forgot about it. When I went back in there just to browse..she recognized me and reminded me tactfully if I still needed said battery (I bought it and it is awesome.) The jerks at Grossinger Hyundai neglected to provide a key fob when I purchased a vehicle from them, and wanted me to purchase one from them at $375, and stated it would take 3-5 hours to cut the key and program it. Has my life become so boring and mundane that I take time out of my busy day to write a review on a Battery store? Yes it has. The reason is simple, Batteries Plus made my life a whole lot easier. I walked into my local T-Mobile store to find a battery for my old Blackberry. The people at T-Mobile are usually as useful as Tits on a bull, so I was shocked when they told me about Batteries plus. Since T-Mobile doesn't have the hindsight to carry batteries for the phone's they sell, they sent me to Batteries plus. I called ahead and talked to David who was nice enough to check their stock and to my amazement, they carried the battery I needed. Instead of getting lured into buying another phone and getting saddled with the weight of another two year contract, I found the battery I needed and am able to dump T-Mobile like a bad habit when my contract is up by the end of the year. Here's the bottom line: I was expecting the worst. I was sure that T-Mobile was going to try and sucker me into a new phone and a new contract, but the people at Batteries plus were there to save the day. The whole process was painless. If you're in need of batteries for any of your gadgets, give David at Batteries plus a call. If they don't have it, I doubt if anyone will. read more

No way am I ever going back to this store again. First off just trying to find a parking space there is a real pain. I made the mistake of letting them replace my smartwatch battery too. They told me what time to pick it up at. And I went back there to pick it up, only to be told we need test it, come back later to pick it up. After that I came back to pick it up only to discover that they did not glue the cover on my watch tight enough. And they had the nerve to blame this on me for not checking the watch out after they gave it to me. Their service is anything but friendly too. This place is the worst! So, I need a new battery for my Hyundai. I go to the batteries plus store on Touhy in Niles. I buy the battery and everything is fine. The battery is now 9 months old and the check battery light comes on. I am close to the Hyundai dealer so I pull over and have them take a look. They tell me that the battery is defective and has a faulty cell. They sell me a new battery, and everything is good again. I take the 1st battery back to BP and tell them what happened. They said they would check it out and get back to me. I said if it checks out as a bad battery will you give me my money back, he said no we will give you another battery. Went in store looking for batteries for my security cameras. I showed the salesman the ones I needed and he said they were priced at 2 for 22 dollars. I was shocked because I have gotten them from the internet at $2 dollars each. So I said no thanks and as I was walking out I see a package of 12 batteries for $29 dollars. So I said I'll buy these and when I cook them to the counter the salesman said they were 39 dollars and that the prices on display had to be changed. I used to drive past Batteries Plus in Niles asking myself, "Why would I ever need to go to a battery store?" . . . until I needed a battery for my rechargeable electric shaver. Where can I get a battery & that's when I called Batteries Plus. I was told that they had the battery I needed & little did I know at the time, you have to solder the battery connection. Harriet, the lovely manager of the store, installed the battery & made my electric shaver work again. She also let me know at the time, that they had an extensive selection of light bulbs (ones that dim). And once again, I went to Batteries Plus & they had the perfect light bulb for my needs. Only upshot is its open until 9:00pm, 2 hours later than the rest in the neighborhood. My girlfriend and I brought our IPhone 8 Plus there today to get the screen fixed. We brought it in with the claim number and it was supposed to get fixed in a few hours. We went back to the phone not working at all and still a cracked screen. Not only did they not fix the problem, but they broke our $1000 phone. To add insult to injury, they were not sorry; did not apologize once and told us we had to call the warranty company, pay for the cracked screen service, pay another $159 for a new phone and then they would reimburse us. They were not helpful at all. Incompetent, disrespectful, rude, and totally lost any business from me or any of my family members. Now, we get to wait five days for a new phone, been on the phone for hours and totally inconvenienced because of their error. The lack of professionalism and lack of concern was shocking. read more

So they sold me a defective battery for my motorcycle. Alright I understand things happen, but funny when I go in there to get it taken care of it. Of course they cannot find my order that happened in April. Manager said nothing we can with a receipt, well funny how I have everything digitized. I said really here is my receipt with the number I provided. So they have a bad system. They said we cannot refund you we can exchange it, why the hell would I exchange for the same battery that failed me. Well I said give me the other battery I had in the past, they said I would need to pay more. I said there was a coupon for 10% that I used and they said it was online only and they couldn't do it. Had a terrible experience there today. I called last week and ordered a new key/remote for my car. They called when it came in, so I went in today to have it cut and programmed. I was told that it would take 30-60 minutes, so I asked that they call me when it was ready, as I had my 13 month old with me and didn't want to just sit in the store. An hour passed without a call, so I walked back over to see what was going on. The gentleman who was helping me previously told his coworker (maybe manager?) that "the tablet isn't working." The other guy looked at the tablet and told him it simply needed to be charged. Apparently the tablet controls the machine that cuts the keys. Without explaining what was going on, the other guy simply started processing a refund for what I'd paid for the key and the programming. I asked him if this meant they were not able to help me. He told me that the tablet would take 30-45 minutes to charge, but that "if" they were able to get it working, he could call me. When I asked why I didn't receive a call at any point during the hour I had already been waiting to tell me what was going on, he simply said "that I don't know." No apology, no even slight attempt at customer service. I won't even get started on the irony of an employee at a battery place not knowing that a device needed to be recharged in order to work. I had a great overall experience here. My battery on my galaxy note 4 swelled up and would not charge so I went to Best Buy, AT&T, and finally I was referred to this place. The guy that was there told me they do not sell a battery specific for my phone so he said that he had some coming in the next week or so on the next truck. The next week I came in and asked him about it and he said he still did not get them but what he would do for me was the get one delivered from another store. I came a few days later and it was there, just like he said, and I was able to buy a new battery for my phone. This store has a flashlight expert!!! If you don't think you would appreciate knowing one maybe you aren't afraid of the dark, have tremendous faith in the electric company, don't prepare for disasters or haven't met David. However, a flashlight wasn't why I was in the store. I had a car problem. No juice in the battery and it was about to get dark and I had an hour drive ahead of me. David was working alone but he locked up the store and brought test equipement out to the parking lot. About three minutes later he told me I didn't need a battery and that the problem was likely with my alternator. My mechanic later agreed. How easy of a sale would that have been? I was pleased that David gave me the straight story. Simple good service with no mumbo jumbo, but what now? David's solution was to take my battery into the store and charge it for a couple of hours so I could get home without getting stranded or worse, have my car shut down in the middle of a highway. I would give this place is zero and they don't sell batteries they sell installation. I went there to purchase a battery for an iPhone. They told me they don't sell batteries by themselves. And then told me if you look on YouTube he's batteries can cause a fire. Their price was just as high as the Apple store. I had a great experience at B+B today after having a bad battery in my iPhone and putting off the repairs for months because I was worried they would be too pricey. For under $50 they were able to open my phone up, identify what was wrong with the battery, replace it with a new one, and close the phone back up like new. It only took 15 minutes and I now have a 1 year warranty on the new battery which gives me some peace of mind. What a ridiculous company. I went on line and ordered a $300 deep cycle marine battery. I selected the option to pick it up at a nearby store. within minutes I got an email and a voicemail saying they had declined the order because they did not have the battery in stock. They offered me the option of calling them and they would order the battery (geez I thought I already did that) or I could go to a store that was 20 miles further away. The kicker is that while it took only minutes to cancel my order they are telling me that it will take 3-5 business days to refund my credit card. I think this company should work on refunding faster and declining orders slower. This was the first time I ordered anything from Batteries Plus and it will definitely be the last. read more
