Eggs on their 2 egg sandwich are consistently overcooked and under-seasoned . This place has serious potential. Upon walking in you are greeted with a rustic but patriotic decor and vibe ( I love that .) The coffee was really good, but the baristas didn't know anything about the beans or the story behind them. Looks like a group of college kids were put to work and just kind of run amuck. The bacon egg and cheese I got was ok at best. The bacon was gross, but the cheese and bread made up for it. Overall I think this place needs work, and I went here skeptically because of all the awful reviews. Definitely not awful, the product ( coffee ) is great. Coffee: Great, though a bit bitter (throw a dash of salt in there). Food: Also pretty great! Staff: Friendly and helpful. Atmosphere: Smelly. This place has a dank, oppressive coffee-and-bread smell that is unpleasant, suffocating, and will seep into your hair and clothes if you spend more than five minutes there. Even with the door wide open, it's enough to make your lungs feel tired. Politics: Boo. Hiss. I don't profess to allow politics to interfere with my food choices, but the Sal DeFranco posters all over the place (yes, yes, I know it's his shop) are obnoxious and make me not want to give him any of my money. I won't be coming back here simply because the service was so bad. After placing an order online I went into the store and asked the cashier where to pick up mobile orders. She rudely answered me that it was on that shelf. I walked away and sat for THIRTY FIVE minutes before I saw someone else come in with a mobile order and I decided to go up. Well, it was ready. It was probably ready when I got there. Why did she tell me to wait for it to go on the shelf? Maybe it was a miscommunication, but if you aren't a regular you might as well skip this one. Everything about this place has a cool chill effect. The front door vibes a "come on in". The old barn refinished floors matches the music and their rough hewn slabs of wood used for tables. They have free wifi with their password clearly displayed. The tables weren't actually rough - but very smooth. I immediately went to asking questions about their roasts and origins. You see I can't these kind of questions at Dunkin Donuts. I spoke to the owner who seemed very well versed and educated. He was Greek and spoke about European style coffee - really intriguing convo. I ordered a simple medium roast. Our talk went flatlined when I asked him where does he get his beans. He said he didn't know....hmmm you don't know or you don't want to tell me? He spoke about the different types of beans, water temperature and pressure to create a perfect cup. BUT he didn't tell me his roaster supplier or the origin of the bean. Dude was cool and smart and his medium roast coffee was hot and it kicked a vibrant smoothness - - 5 stars was on the edge of my fingers if I would have been enlightened with the information I asked for. I'll be back - I'm not bitter haha This edit is 4 days later I've changed the rating from 4 to 5 stars. The owner contacted me and gave me insight into their roasting and regions. Had the Yorktown sandwich on sourdough. Interior was decent, but the bread left much to be desired. It was like it had been toasted hours ago then used for this sandwich. Not warm at all and strangely chewy. Also had a hot pumpkin latte. Wasn't pumpkin-y and wasn't hot. Was barely lukewarm. Wife had the chicken chili and only ate a few bites of it. She said it was not at all spicy and was bland with nearly no flavor profile at all. Dog ate the pieces of chicken she gave him and seemed to enjoy them. Also...we first went here a couple years ago because they were dog friendly. Went back today because we had our dog with us but but they have a no pets sign in the window. Sad face. read more

Great community cafe in downtown Haverhill. I've stopped in for espresso twice this week. The coffee is roasted well, and the blend they use for the espresso gives a smooth, syrupy taste, albeit without a robust crema. The service has been wonderful, and the atmosphere is very inviting. Going to this cafe was the absolute worst thing that happened to me in a long time. I actually think I have to give up coffee for a long time so that I never have to think about this place or the people who work there. I politely ordered a coffee and the mood was so dark like I just snuck into Slytherin as an outsider, or as a muggle. It was horrible, I felt like I was on a gangs turf. and then the women who have me the coffee made me feel so guilty, even though i tipped. she said, "how's this collar?" like I was a dog or something. so messed up. I don't even know what I did to upset that lady but I sympathize fully with anyone who has a similar experience. Never ever am I going to return to this cafe, not in a thousand years. I cannot understand this place getting 4 stars. Coffee is mediocre. Service is abominable. If there's even 3 people in line, you're there for 20 minutes waiting for just a coffee. Forget about ordering food. Pastries are laughable. Prepared food is "okay" but takes forever and is WAY overpriced. You want better food or coffee in Haverhill? Go to Roasted or Drip. This is my third time coming here and all three times the experience has been the same. This is a very lively spot. The atmosphere is great. Modern and robust. Very unique trinkets all around. The one that stood out were two skulls with a mortar and pestle in the middle. I'm a writer so that actually inspired me a little bit. They have sofa seating cushion seating and stool seating. But to me this place stands out for more of an adult audience and not for everyone. I'm not saying that because they have beer here, but even if you took that part out. The coffee is strong! I've never had coffee like this. Very unique brew. But like a lot of people here agree. This is quite overpriced. But I do think if you are a coffee connoisseur you would agree you get what you pay for. But this isn't a place that strikes out as a everyday go to get coffee to go to work spot. I think the service is what still needs to be improved. Yes everyone is nice, but they don't stand out and go over the way to me. The cook is nice and brought my food out and asked if I needed anything. But no one asks how my day is or you know, casual talk. Some people it's not a big deal but if I want to be at a coffee shop regularly, I'd like them to get to know me. At other places they talk to me and make me feel at home. I don't get that sense here. If you see my Wicked Big review it would make more sense. Haverhill did need this place. It's hopping and a great social place for people. But like I said, it's not for everyone. We are always on the hunt for a good coffee place outside of the city because they are so few and far between. My boyfriend brings zero expectations to new coffee experiences since people rarely know how to pull a good espresso. He was pleasantly surprised that his drink didn't taste completely burnt, only partially burnt with a hint of the fruitiness he was looking for (and mildly amused with the barista who asked if he wanted cream in his espresso). My latte tasted more like that chemically diesel flavor when the espresso has been over-extracted, the kind of coffee that leaves you with an upset stomach. I honestly couldn't finish it. Friendly, personable service with an AMAZING menu for meat eaters, vegetarians, or vegans. Great coffee! The interior has a nice modern but rustic feel to it. There are plenty of places to charge your phone or laptop, so it's a great place to get some work done or to meet a friend. They usually play pretty mellow music (without lyrics) so it's perfect if you need to focus! I highly recommend the chicken apple bacon sausage on a breakfast sandwich, or anything with the pulled pork! (Especially the Cubano, because the sauce is to die for) I've never had a coffee beverage here that I didn't like. The ONLY issue that I have is that the bar-style seats can be uncomfortable if you're sitting longer than a half hour. This is my absolute favorite new coffee shop in the area, can't believe its been open for a few months and today is only my first time here! They have a wide range of items on their menu from coffee, espresso shots, lattes, cappuccinos, all iced or hot, and a pretty big breakfast and lunch menu of bagels, sandwiches, soups and salads. Their espresso is amazing -- I got the white mocha cappuccino and it was made to perfection by the friendly barista. You can tell they take their time to a quality product and the end result is very instagram-able. Another plus is the modern and open space and free wifi. Great coffee and food. LONG wait times. First time I went, took 30 minutes to get our sausage egg and cheese on an English muffin. Second time took about 15 minutes. Third time took 40 minutes to get the sandwich. Had a weird encounter with the manager. Found a phone on the counter. My boyfriend says to the man behind the counter, "someone left their phone here." The guy says," That is actually my phone. I leave it right there for easy access to it. I am the manager here. Any other time would have been a nice gesture." We just said okay........? Weird and somewhat rude. The vibe is not all there anymore for this place. That encounter pretty much ruined it. My wife and I have been dying to try this place for breakfast and we finally did after the farmer's market. Not only is the food good, but the atmosphere is too. We both got the rainbow bagel. She got hers with plain cream cheese, which she said was good. I got mine as the two egg breakfast sandwich with bacon. The sandwich itself was great. We both agreed that these bagels have to be the softest bagels either of us have ever eaten. She also got an iced mocha latte. She said was really delicious and strong. I got the blood orange iced tea sweetened. I thought it was flavored perfectly and really enjoyed it.
