Simple...Saturday night, watching hockey and we wanted pizza. We picked up 2 pies from Joseph's which is our "go to" spot for a lovely sit down meal. Without question the best pizza in the area. Generous toppings, cooked to perfection on a consistent basis. IMHO, nothing local measures close to Joseph's. We went to Joseph's Trattoria Downtown for Mother's Day and the entire meal was wonderful! The interior is very nicely done with lots of brick and wood and metal lamps. We found it comfortable and relaxing. Our server, Deloras, was friendly and did a fantastic job. We started with fresh crusty bread with a dipping oil, white bean paste, and olives. The bread was so good! We shared apps of the Arancini, Insalata Caprese, and the meatball flight and each were delicious. Dinners were the Pollo o Vitello con Limone Chicken, Arrabiatta with calamari, and Ravioli di Zucca (butternut squash) Grande. Tasty does not even begin to describe how good they all were! We finished up our meal by splitting the 3 scoops of homemade gelato; black raspberry, banana split, and cannoli and each received an almond cookie. The entire meal = Benissimo! Went to Joseph's on a Slow Monday for an early dinner ...4-5 people at the bar, one group of 2 in restaurant area, and us. Male greater very friendly, Waitress Poeme very friendly and attentive. Ambiance and cleanliness very good. Salad was excellent, bread was excellent. Not busy at the bar but still seemed to take a while to get 2 drinks. All was GREAT until one of the meals arrived. One meal was the cheese ravioli which was very very good. The other meal was Garganello Con Salsa Di Constantini Brasati (Housemade garganello pasta, pulled, braised chianti short ribs,)...Pasta was good, sauce was good, Braised short ribs HORRIBLE...Tough, NOT tender at all, ultimately couldn't eat the short ribs. (I have short ribs frequently so I know how good they should be)...so a mixed bag...so would we go back, maybe but would certainly have something else. read more

Nice place with alot of regulars watching sports at the bar. Huge wood pizza oven in back. We got our drinks & apps quickly from J Poeme. She was very good, had good energy & filled our drinks. Wow! My husband and I were blown away by our dinner, and first visit, to Joseph's. From the minute we walked in we were treated with care. Erin, our waitress, was wonderful! She guided us through the menu and all of her suggestions were perfect. Nick, the Manager, even stopped by to welcome us! The food was incredible from start to finish. Best Italian food I've had in a long time. The complimentary bread came out freshly baked and steaming hot, and the olive oil and spread were delicious. We got the fonduta for the appetizer, which was a hit. Who doesn't love melty cheese and crusty bread!? Our table had the lobster ravioli, butternut squash ravioli, and short rib pasta. All pasta was homemade, and the servings were surprisingly large. The lobster ravioli had a lemon cream sauce, which really made the dish. My mom orders the butternut squash ravioli any time she sees it on a menu, and said this was the best she ever had. My toddler even loved sharing the short rib pasta with me. The inside had a large bar, so it was noisy enough I wasn't worried about my toddlers volume. Our server was kind enough to bring her water in a plastic cup with a lid and straw. The only "negative" was that the service was rather slow. It took a while, and us actually going into the restaurant asking if we could sit for us to find a hostess and be seated. Our food also took a while to come out. But I couldn't even take a star away from that because the food was worth the wait, and our server did a good job. Love their new location downtown Haverhill. They've updated their menu which was always good and it's definitely keeping our interest for what's on the menu and for how delicious. Family owned and I never fail to see the owners there making sure everything is just so. And the decor - so nice. Modern spin on old world Italian. Definitely worth a visit. Parking around the building can be a challenge depending upon how busy but they've got the luxury of a parking garage within 2 minutes and parking there is super cheap and a nice escape from clearing windows on snowy nights. read more

I came to visit Boston and heard my family RAVING about this place. So of course, I had to check it out and everyone wanted to eat here again anyways. We ended up having the same waiter that my family had last time, Rachel. She was so sweet and even remembered what everyone had ordered last time! (Wow!) As expected, the food was delicious. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the portions were large. Even the pre-meal bread was good, and it came with not only olive oil but also hummus and olives!! We came for Mother's Day. The food was incredible. I had the Ravioli all' Aragosta (lobster ravioli). My wife had the Ravioli di Zucca (butternut squash ravioli) and our son had the Pancetta e Panna. We shared the Nunziatina pizza which was Prosciutto di Parma, fig jam, figs, arugula, gorgonzola and balsamic glaze. The food was really good. The bread was great, the pizza was top tier. My wife loved hers. My ravioli lacked lobster. I got the flavor but no bite. I don't like that. I'd have expected a claw on top or something at the very least if there wasn't going to be a lobster bite to the ravioli. My son remarked that while his was delicious, he expected a dish that leads with Pancetta in the name to have more pancetta. He wasn't wrong, it lacked. For dessert, my wife got the bread pudding, which was incredible. Our son got the chocolate lava cake and he loved it. Overall the food was terrific and we will be back. The service was awful. It was soooo slow and our server didn't even take our order until we'd finished eating our apps. They didn't offer dessert, we had to ask and we had to be proactive about asking for more drinks. We spent 2 hours mainly because the service was so bad. This was everyone's experience. The people next to us sat before us and were still there while we were leaving. I honestly would have been fine with a slow pace dinner if the service were more attentive. I'll chalk it up to the server must have been super new and in the weeds. I want to love it. It deserves to be loved. Reasonable price for a great menu including a bottle of Valpolicella. Yet, today, the extraordinary Bolognese came loaded w sage as a decoration. The sage completed upstage the sauce. Sad. Also, the trio of pasta included lobster ravioli, which were delicious, but the sauce had too much lemon. I can see how the cook that prepared my meal was not very experienced. Sad. I will be back hoping to have more luck next time. For years we've loved going to Joseph's Trattoria Cafe off 125 in Bradford. A few weeks ago we went there and were surprised and saddened by a closed sign and a chain-link fence. On further checking we found that they'd been flooded out this past August. Recently, I attempted to book a Mother's Day reservation at our favorite local restaurants only to find that they were all full. As a last resort I googled their name and found that they were open in a new location on Moulton Street in Haverhill and thankfully was able to book a reservation there. They'd apparently opened last October, and many weren't yet aware of that. Long story short- we went there today, and it was nothing short of AMAZING! First, while we had a reservation, when we got there, there was a sumptuous buffet, but Joanna and I were booked at a table in an adjacent room 2 steps up from the buffet. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but she's recently been on a walker due to a recent knee injury. Getting to and from the buffet would have been difficult. We explained the problem to them and they graciously seated us at a table for 4 on the lower level. Given that the place was full on a busy day like today I'm sure that was a concession on their part. And their staff was most gracious and accomodating! Furthermore, the buffet was plentiful and DELICIOUS, and we'll be back soon! Try it- this is a real winner! read more

I always want to like this place but it ends up a punishment every time. Don't like to leave bad reviews but after consistent uneatable meals of different kinds over different visits, it's safe to say that this is just the experience. The bread is good, some appetizers are edible but we have yet to have a palatable meal. Had some mussels that tasted fine but were concerningly cold, a stuffed chicken that was unseasoned, undercooked, almost like it was boiled and gamey, along with a pizza that was missing half its toppings and wasembarrassing to even serve. In the past have had the short ribs which were tough with sauce that isn't to par with even jarred brands. Wait staff was kind, and took care of the completely inedible dish, but it's painful to politely try to say every dish at the table was a disappointment. Every night I'm assured it's an off night but unfortunately haven't made it on a good one. read more

However, when we went over to the bakery, no one was there, so we look and contemplate the selections! A couple minutes later a baker comes out with trays of freshly baked goods, does not acknowledge us... a "hey, I'll be right with you" is something normally said by service... The new location has not got the kinks out yet. Our server Fernando was excellent. I like the new location. They didn't change the physical restaurant much. It's olives and Kruegers with a paint job. I Parked in the garage. My wife's shrimp was overcooked. Her crab ravioli was delicious. I do not usually like broccolini. I still don't. My pork chop and potatoes were great. This was always a solid choice. Service and quality has gone down. Last review was 3 years ago. Sad to say. We went on a Thursday night for dinner. Sat down and it took someone 6 minutes to come to the table to ask if we wanted a drink. ( I timed it) Ok. I know it's hard to get enough help. Ordered the mussels as an appetizer. The restaurant has an open concept. So I could see when the came on the pass. They were there for a few minutes. Chef saw me looking and The chef brought them to our server who was on the side talking to the other server. Mussels come in a nice big bowl with garlic toast. She asked if we wanted side plates. Ummmm yeah. When she brought them over we said we'd like to order our mains. About 20 minutes later she comes to the table with the main entrees. Mussels and side plates still on table. She proceeded to stand there with entrees in her hand while I cleared the table. I stacked them and pushed them to the side. My bf was in rest room. She asked if I want grated parm. I said no. She asks if he does. Ummm he's in restroom. I don't know. She asks if she should come back. I said unless u want to pull up a chair and wait. She leaves. Dirty appetizer plates still on table. Bf returns to table. She comes back with parm. I got Vitello soffrito. It's veal over a spinach in a lemon cream, crab ravioli and lobster meat. The lobster meat was a piece of the claw. Not even the whole claw. Picture attached for reference. BF got seafood fra diavolo. There was no scallops shrimp lobster. Just different fish ( haddock salmon ) and muscles in a red sauce. Overall average. I know prices went up but better options. Also there are several silk flower arrangements in the restaurant. The one by the hostess station is so dusty and dirty. 3 years ago pre Covid we sat at the table under said arrangement. I brought it to their attention. It still hadn't been dusted. We've gone here for a few meals and have never had a bad one yet. Delicious, fresh and well prepared. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but the food outshines that for sure!! And if you've eaten too much for dessert, which happens to us every time, the bakery is amazing!! Haven't found a confection we did love! The only negative is that it's not private and it's very loud. So, if you're looking for a more intimate dining experience the open concept might not be for you. For us, totally worth it. read more

I've been going here since it opened a billion years ago and this place has not skipped a beat. The freshly baked bread is unbelievable, and the menu is just loaded with greatness. My personal favorite is the squash ravioli, but everything is good. If you have any room for dessert, you can stop at the bakery counter near the exit on the way out for some fresh goodies. After a recent poor experience where our food was horribly prepared we decided to try takeout tonight. Unfortunately it was a mistake. From the order being wrong to a salad being priced at $40.00 it was one mistake after the next. The waitress even asked if I ordered online somewhat implying I made the error. The order was called in to the restaurant. The manager tried to give me a gift card which I refused because I don't complain to get a gift card, I just want my order correctly prepared and priced correctly. The chicken for our salad was inedible. The ravioli's were fair at best. The only item that was truly good was the bread. We always had excellent food and service at the old location but they are 0 for 2 at this spot. Sadly we will not be returning. read more
