Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat. After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return. read more

Food menu was so on point. Everything sounded good! Everything was delicious! The restaurant had a good amount of people and we got a nice table right away. Our waitress was so nice and in a good mood so that was nice too. The restaurant doesn't have have music and I liked that, we could actually have a conversation and not yell at each other. Lunch today at Bauer's By Saxon was really good. Great vibe, friendly service and good food. The fried zucchini was excellent. I had the mango shrimp salad and it was delicious. My husband had the fireman burger with fries. The burger was very juicy and very messy. He did not like the fries because they were not very crispy and had a sugary spice on them that tasted sweet. This was the worst experience I've had in a long time. There were so many misses. First, I want to start by saying our server was super nice and helpful. I don't blame him at all for the missteps in the kitchen. As far as our food... the fries were super dark and overly greasy and tasted like they had been fried in old oil. They were not edible. My husbands burger had waaaay too much mustard. It was unbalanced in flavors. But the worst offense was my burger. I ordered it medium. It was well past well done. I got the blackberry and Brie burger. The blackberry coulis, as it was advertised on the menu, was not a coulis. It was a mush of barely cooked blackberries, seeds and all. They piled this mush on both the bottom and top buns so thick that it was four times the amount of blackberry to meat. The Brie completely disappeared and the arugula immediately got soggy. The bun disintegrated under the mush. Not only was it an unbalanced burger in ratios, it was not a coulis (which I imagined would have been drizzled on the burger). This was slop. Also- three of the four beers my husband tried to order tapped out as the bartender tried to pour them. This place needs a chef to rework the menu and train the kitchen staff. And they need to not run out of that many beers at once. Maybe that was just poor timing. But the food was unforgivable. We won't be back. read more

Wow. This place has gone downhill. Where do I begin. Let's start with Service- None to Barely there. I literally saw two tables get up and leave cuz they weren't served. I'm not sure what was happening but it looked like service was lost. Food- I got the dirty south and my s.o. got the fogo. He said his burger was decent but the fries were way too salty. My sandwich was huge and started off strong. However, the more I ate, the less good it got. Some piece of the coleslaw was hard, but what's worse is I ordered a side salad and that shit tasted not washed... worst salad I've ever had. Now I'm hoping I don't get sick... Was pleasantly surprised by this unassuming burger joint! Started our meal off with the Brussel sprouts. So crispy and lemony! My only complaint is that I wish there was more, as the portion was on the smaller side. My friend got the octavian and liked it. It was a spicy pork, linguica, mushroom, onion, and cheese sandwich. It was one of the featured items on Diner, Drive-ins, and Dives. I ordered the brie bg. I've never had a burger with these kind of flavors! It was topped with a creamy brie cheese and sweet blackberry jam. It was a solid choice, but next time I'd like to explore their menu and try something else. The fries were so yummy! One of the best burgers I've ever had. We had family coming over for a visit and thought let's give this place a try. Our family likes fried zucchini and it's on the menu, so we thought, why not, let's try it. Not sure about the area as I normally don't like the 9th Street area, especially near the bus station but thought well, let's keep an open mind since this place had 4 stars and good reviews. Glad we went. Our waitress was pleasant, attentive and sweet. There was more menu options online but not on the menu at the restaurant. I was going to order the wedge or blue salad but wasn't on the restaurants menu...Oh well. I had the blue burger with no salt fries, crispy, that's exactly what I got, delicious. Hubby had the pastrami burger and salad, WOW, he loved it, the others with us had the Bauer burger and they loved it as well. We loved the fried zucchini so much I ordered another, glad we did. This place has gone downhill under the new ownership. Customer service is nonexistent. The place was dead for a Saturday evening, and it took forever to get our food. Nachos were disappointing. It's was basically just over seasoned chips with a few black beans and some scattered cheese and a few drizzle of sauce. Texas burger came with regular sandwich bread. No burger bun. No onion rings, instead it was some burnt strips of onion. No bacon strips, few crumbles of bacon. Fries had cinnamon on it, weird. House Ketchup belongs in the garbage. Really great little restaurant in downtown Modesto area. I loved my fogo burger. It was nice and spicy! I got my burger with the beef and it was nice and juicy.
