    On da lift

My 1964 Porsche 356 had been in the garage for many years, and I was looking for a suitable mechanic to bring it back to drivable condition so I could get body and interior work scheduled. Based on an in-person shop inspection and some discussion, Bryan at BauerWerks, also known as ABP Repair, seemed to be the best option. There were a zillion Porsches on site, though mostly newer models. I had the car towed to the shop, and within a very reasonable time, Bryan and his staff got it running at a cost that was well within my budget. He replaced the fuel tank and lines, fixed oil leaks, and kept me informed throughout the process. He always tried to balance what was needed versus everything possible that might be done, and I always felt he had my interests in mind, expecting a long-term customer relationship. Now that the car is in the body shop at Reunion Autoworks, I'm still bugging Bryan with questions to get his perspective. He's really busy, but patient with my questions and I really appreciate it. Highest recommendation.

Brian and I take a trip to his smog guy

Brian is super humble, honest, and helpful. He takes the time to listen and has been willing to offer consultation and advice whenever I've called. I bought a used 2004 Porsche Cayenne S. The truck runs great but I had so much trouble getting it to pass smog because of an oxygen sensor fault code. Brian recommended that I conduct a drive cycle and then bring it back to him. After a month, the error code still popped up. I eventually decided to take the vehicle to the Porsche dealership. The dealership recommended that I reprogram the computer and they wanted to charge me a hefty amount. I decided to call Brian and get his opinion. He advised me to do it. Lo and behold, it worked! The error code disappeared and I was able to smog and register my vehicle the very next day. As repairs pop-up on my car, I'm glad I have a local mechanic like Brian who is willing to chase down a problem until it's resolved and doesn't mind presenting multiple options for addressing the problem even if it means referring the business out. That kind of honesty and integrity can't be undervalued. Brian does get busy and booking an appointment is the best way to go. He was able to put me on the calendar within a few days of contacting him. Ok, thanks again Brian! More to come...

A picture of a car with no rust

I recently took my restored 1968 Porsche to Bauerwerks for a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). The car had been restored recently by a reputable local body shop and looked excellent, with a shiny new paint job. However, the shop informed the potential buyer that the car had rust, which ultimately messed up the sale. If you guys have pictures of this "RUST" feel free to reply to this review. Someone definitely mentioned they took some pictures so that's good. They also stated the car was 70% restored. The cars engine is rebuilt has a new clutch mostly all the components are new, new paint, new tires, new bushings etc. Curious on what the other 30 percent might include. What do I need to make this car 100%? I have some concerns about the location of the shop. It is situated in a high-crime area of Oakland, right in front of a housing project. As a result, I would advise potential buyers to be cautious and aware of their surroundings when visiting the shop. Despite these concerns, the staff at BauerWerks were friendly and professional. They provided a thorough inspection of the car and were transparent about any issues they found. Overall, I would recommend this shop because all they deal with is Porsches so theoretically they should have extensive knowledge and expertise, but I would advise buyers to be aware of the location and potential safety concerns.

My 1987 Porsche 924S is now back on the twisties thanks to this shop!

This team was simply great. Where I've had trouble finding someone happy to work on mine, Brian understands the 924/944/968 platform cars and is expert with them. My car had multiple issues that Brian and his team investigated and solved quickly. Communication was excellent and my car's issues were explained clearly. I couldn't be more satisfied with the work and happy that I've found a new mechanic!

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reports, obtained by KRON4 Wednesday, confirmed that one of the family members died by suicide and three family members were homicide victims. Thomas Russell Ocheltree's brother found the four bodies inside 930 Monterey Boulevard on October 8, the reports state. The brother was "performing a well-being check" on the family because he was unable to reach Ocheltree over the phone, according to the reports. After making a shocking and heartbreaking discovery, he called 911. Police officers and paramedics swarmed the large house. Police officers investigate a San Francisco home where four bodies were found inside on Oct. 8, 2025. (KRON4 Photo) The youngest victim was Ocheltree's 9-year-old daughter, Mackenzie Lou Ann Ocheltree. Investigators determined that she was shot once in her bedroom. Mackenzie's 12-year-old sister, Alexandra Grace Ocheltree, was shot twice in a different bedroom. Their 57-year-old father, Thomas Ocheltree, had been shot twice in the chest and once in the neck. According to the reports, the manner of death for the girls and their father were ruled as homicides. Paula Truong, 53, was Thomas Ocheltree's wife and the mother of Mackenzie and Alexandra. Truong's manner of death was determined to be a suicide, the reports state. Unlike her deceased family members, her body was not found lying in her bed. Truong was found inside the garage. A relative previously told KRON4, "My brother and his two precious daughters were victims of a horrific crime. Our family is shocked and devastated."

Brett and his garage repair shop is great/top-notch! The best mix of high quality and rate around!…read more(trust me, I've called around to 35 shops for their labor rates) I've been taking my cars to Precision Auto Care, but I recently bought a cheap 20 year old used car (hey, it only had 107k miles on it!), so I didn't need any premium pricing costs towards its maintenance. So I went about searching for the best deal around (considering I didn't want to put in too much into a car that are in its last years). After an exhaustive search, you can trust me in saying you won't find better (mix of still high quality, but not premium high quality price cost to go with it) -- you ain't gonna beat his/their rate & quality at $120/hr. Brett is an earnest, eager guy who wants to do all he can to help you out. So I imagine the rest of his team/shop is reflective of that. He's on the younger side compared to other mechanics who run their own shop -- who end up really set in their ways and many have become complacent or too presumptive to be open to anything else or more. I brought in that used car to get a good look over and to confirm what the Pre-Purchase Inspection observed about it. He was able to confirm some things, and clear out some other concerns after taking a closer look at it. Most importantly; he was able to catch the things that he should've, and didn't fabricate more merely to pad on costs -- ultimately making/exampling him as trustworthy. He has since fixed/troubleshooted the car having trouble starting (he diagnosed/figured replacing/upgrading the spark plugs; which did the trick), replaced headlights, and simple oil change. In all, I saw that he properly charged the time appropriately with partial to his per/hour rate -- which, again, speaks to his integrity & trustworthiness (as many sleazy underhanded shops would charge a full hour's work even if it took a fraction of the time). He instilled confidence & faith so much that I brought my brand new 2026 SUV to him (which, I imagine, I would've brought to Precision Auto Care in San Leandro normally to do the high end care) to get the catalytic converter shield installed. His guy did a good job (at the very least I have no complaints, but I'm not so knowledgeable to know much more of a difference). My only qualm about it is I was quoted 2 hours of work, but I did end up having to hang around and wait for 3 hours. But, again to speak to impressive work ethic & integrity, was charged 2 hours. His place processes with impressive paperwork, listing every single aspect looked at and worked on, pricing, cost break down. What makes me a bit nervous is that when I sign for the estimate, it doesn't show cost on it; so if any disputes, any prearranged pricing/cost wouldn't be binding. If he gave less of a trustworthiness vibe, it would be best to insist it be on the estimate. But I get the feeling that I imagine if there was any dispute, Brett would do his absolute best and bend backwards to understand, accommodate, and make it right (even if it would go against established practices). Parking is very challenging. If you can't simply pull in, I suggest calling and talking to him to figure out how he wants it (it's what I've had to do each time). A few times, he would move his VW car from the street parking spot in front of his shop to place my car, others he had used the unused parking lot around the corner (which has since been fenced off; so that's a no-go any longer), and last time he moved a car at the front of the garage to have my SUV enter -- if you aren't confident or new to your car, I HIGHLY urge & suggest you simply have him bring it in; I know for sure I would damage my car (after I initially gave an attempt), while he successfully did it with confidence/experience. And when the car was done, they placed the car in the aforementioned unused parking lot (no-go anymore), or this last time around the corner down a whole block. I drive the 8 miles just to bring it to Brett and Car Care Service; because he offers the best quality service at the best rate around -- being eager to help, decent, high work ethic/trustworthiness, capable, and I know I don't have anything to worry about with him/them.
