I ONLY trust them, always and refuse to take my car any place else. I know they are honest as I had quotes locally (where I live) and wanted a second opinion so I go to them and they are thorough and patient and they had continuously saved me thousands of dollars! They have the ability to explain how things work internally, so that I get a better understanding of potential failures in the future or basic maintenance requirements than are necessary. So I gain knowledge and I understand more, on top of my cars getting the best attention. On occasion they cleaned/detailed my car, and had helped me with Uber or anything I would need, Chris will help. Things are expensive and I need reliable people to help with my cars and they save me money, they save me time. I brought my Audi in for a transmission diagnosis after it started shifting harshly and sometimes getting stuck in 6th gear. Instead of doing a proper inspection, the shop told me I needed a whole new transmission. They did not even remove the transmission pan to inspect the filter, fluid, gasket, or internal issue before making that recommendation. I decided not to approve the transmission replacement and inspected it myself. I later found the actual problem was a missing transmission filter O-ring -- not a failed transmission. In my opinion, recommending a complete transmission replacement without properly checking the basics was careless and misleading. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop for transmission diagnosis. read more

The shop is clean, easy to find/navigate, and the service itself leaves very little to be desired. I'm happy with how honest they've been--I've never been upsold on any unnecessary repair, service, etc. and they're also a shop that is happy to give you some good news lol. I brought my 2015 Audi A4 here for a second opinion on some brake work, and I'm really glad I did. Chris was super helpful, while listened to my concerns. Turns out, I didn't need a whole new brake set like the first shop told me--I just needed a new sensor and a small part to stop the brake pad from rattling in the caliper. They did a full inspection, took care of an oil change, and had my car back to me the same day. As a new-ish driver, having recently relocated from NYC, my overly-paranoid mother made an appointment for me to take my Mini Countryman in for a "safety check" to make sure it was all good for me to be driving around with my baby. I dropped it off, got a call a couple hours later that it was all done, and had a nice little chat with the wonderful Chris when I went to pick it up. Super efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming, and he assured me that it was in great shape and nothing needed servicing! I don't want to make promises about something that they may have done as a special favor to my kindly ol' mom, but they didn't even charge me for the appointment! Much better than the service I get at Oakland Mercedes dealership even though I've spent so much damn much in purchases and services with them over the last 10 years. Despite only spending a small amount on a small issue, GAS vacuumed my vehicle and dressed my tires, something that the Oakland Mercedes dealership does not do for me when I don't spend a certain amount on service. I fully anticipate coming back here for all my auto needs for my German vehicles and I truly recommend anyone experiencing issues or needing maintenance with their German vehicle(s) to come here and give these guys a chance to take care of you. read more

I brought my BMW here almost two months ago for a diagnosis. During that time, no work was ever started, and I had to be the one to reach out for updates, as the shop never contacted me. Each time I stopped by or called, I was told they were going through some personal and family challenges, which I understand, but the communication and follow-through just weren't there. When I finally picked up my car, it hadn't been touched and was returned to me dusty and covered in bird droppings from sitting outside. While the staff did apologize, the lack of updates and care for the vehicle made this a very frustrating experience. I hope things improve for them in the future, but unfortunately I can't recommend the shop based on my experience. read more

These guys held my car hostage for nearly two weeks, purposely dodging my calls. And they did it out of pure greed. The shop had just reopened after a renovation and was backed up with multiple repairs. They scheduled me in anyway, choosing not to disclose that fact. I was even told, "It might be here overnight" - a bold-faced lie. Two weeks later I'd missed nine days of work. And not only did I lose all those wages, they never completed the work. So I had to start all over again at another place. When I dropped it off I made it clear that I drive for a living, delivering food to seniors so they knew full well I was dependent on my vehicle. And still they led me on, as if they were just stumped and needed more time. Had I not intervened it's for certain they would have kept it longer. But I started calling them around the 7 day mark. They refused to pick up. I left three messages in a row and heard nothing so I rode my bike over. I walk in and there's the owner sitting there surfing the internet on the exact same phone I'd been calling. And I know for sure he'd received my messages because my girlfriend had sent him a text from her phone as a test, and he'd replied right away. He was purposely putting me off for the obvious reason: he knew if he answered and I demanded my car back, he'd lose out on the profit he'd make with the repair. His plan was to put me off as long as it took, until his guys were finally available, and then cash in. But once it became clear that the ruse was up, he figured "Ok, whatever. I'll just give the sucker his car back." He couldn't charge me because they hadn't done the work so instead he typed up his "guesstimate," along with a repair quote and sent me on my way. I seriously doubt his guys spent even an hour looking into the issue, they were too busy with the more profitable repairs. The community center I work for had to find replacements for each of those days - nine shifts total - to insure our clients were fed. These are elderly and disabled people, unable to prepare food for themselves. The owner, upon reading this should be ashamed of himself but judging from his unapologetic attitude I assume instead, that he'll respond with more lies. Nine working days, guys - straight up. If you are a regular person like me and you depend on your vehicle, do not use this shop. The shady owner will try and charm you. He will lie to your face, faking like they're still under the hood. read more

Terrible, two weeks ago I inquired about a service on my Porsche Cayenne and the person I spoke with said he'll get back to me shortly. A few days passed, but still no response. I followed up on my inquiry last week and four days have passed, but still no response. Either the company's operation is inefficiently ran and has a poor way of responding to customers or simply they're not interested in my business. Took my Panamera in for a service for coul replacements and they were excellent at communicating what issues it was experiencing via a detailed pdf file, via email. I added an oil change to the service to ensure my car was running in tip-top shape. When my car was ready to be picked up, I was offered an Uber to the shop, from my home in Oakland. That was a really appreciated, above & beyond way to showcase excellent customer service. Thank you for that favor! When I got to the shop, my car had been washed as well! Wow! Thank you again! What an amazing way to offer a great experience. I don't know if many service shops do this much these days, but you know, a place showing that they appreciate their customer and their hard-earned money, certainly shows that there are still really good service shops that just care about the customer experience. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE! They completely botched a rear shocks replacement for my 2005 E320. Shop charged me $3500 for shoddy work. I was due for an oil change, and many of the places I called and went to wouldn't service me because they didn't have the parts needed. They all recommend me to take my car to the dealer, which I would never do. When i called German Auto, Ali picked up and told me to bring her in at 1PM and they'll take care of it. As a yelper, obviously I read all the reviews, and ultimately felt comfortable taking her in. When I arrived, they were definitely busy. I spoke with Ali and informed him of the pricing I was told originally on the phone. Apparently the pricing wasn't what I was told, but Ali kept his word and kept it at the price I was told. I actually don't drive a German car but they we're happy to service it and we're able to run its diagnostics. When the warranty expired on my 2012 Mini Cooper, I've been bringing it here ever since and honestly I feel like they do a better job servicing my car than the dealership did. Each time I call Ali is always accommodating and tries to fit me in as best he can. Each time they service my car I really appreciate that they wash it + do some interior detailing as a little bonus. Just last week I apparently drove over a nail on the road and got an unexpected flat tire. With the whole COVID situation, it's not a great time for public transport instead. Although they were clearly very busy, Ali made time for my car the very next day. I happened to also be due for an oil change and a smog for registration as well, so they managed to do it all in addition to replacing all 4 of my tires (it was time!). When Ali called to tell me the car was finished, I was under water at work and there was just no way I'd be able to get there before 8pm... so he even arranged to have my car *delivered my car to my house* across the island so I wouldn't have to worry about it. There are reasons I choose this place over others. Knowledge, Customer Service, and Convenience. I initially had a 350SLK and they took real good care of not only the car, but my satisfaction. Everything that needed to be done was explained, and if something wasn't broken, they gave me the option to either replace the part, or save my money until it needed repair or replacement. For this, I trust them because they won't steer me wrong (pun intended). I was looking for a shop that would be able to service my car for less than the VW dealership I usually take my car to and I was fortunate enough to find German Auto in Alameda. I came in without an appointment for an oil service and Ali was able to squeeze me in on the same day. The employees were very nice to me and gave me great advice with my car. Tyler even cleaned my engine bay and topped up all of my fluids for me after doing my oil service! German Auto checked all of my tires, brakes and underbody to let me know if I will be having to do anything to my car in the future. I hate to do this to this shop I really like them but I had a very bad experience here.... In 2016 when I first brought my car here didn't have an oil leak after they did the IMS bearing, rear main seal and A head gasket my car start to Leak oil I brought it back to them for at lease 6 times por the past 2 years and every time I bring my car to shop it will stay there For a month or so I just gave up on that I still have that car with oil leak... I guess I just have to deal with that But they will not get my business anymore.... I learn my lesson next time I bring my car in any shop I will have to ask for a proof of warranty that job cost me $9000 Poor work ethic. read more
