Interim review: Exam done and eyeglasses ordered 8 days ago. Order just sent to lab yesterday. No explanation for delay, no apology (and the place isn't cheap). Hope the eventual results are better than this lapse suggests! Final review: Eyeglasses ready 20 days after ordering. Business phoned to apologize for delay (and notify me I'd been overcharged $100), but only after I posted the above interim review to Yelp. Never received an explanation for the slow service, even upon collecting product in person from store. On the plus side: Good product, on-the-mark prescription (done by optometrist onsite), and very helpful assistance from two office staff when selecting frames. So, good outcome (ultimately), but can't say I'd feel comfortable doing repeat business with them. With regret, overall rating therefore remains 3 stars. read more

I first met Dr. Liu from a referral from another one of his patients. He was working a couple of days a week here in Modesto at another optometrist office several years ago. When Dr. Liu examined my eyes, he noticed there was something wrong and told me that I needed to go to an ophthalmologist. He filled out the paperwork and send it to my insurance company at the time. They send a denial letter indicating that there was not enough verification of my problem. Dr. Liu then sent another letter with enough information that the insurance company reversed its denial and allow me to go to an ophthalmologist. I don't like insurance companies and my underlying thought was that after two letters indicating that I had a serious problem if they did not relent and something happened to my eyesight they would be liable. I went to the ophthalmologist and finally ended up having cataract surgery in both eyes. There is no doubt that it was through the extra efforts of Dr. Liu that my eye problem was addressed. He took the time and the care and concern for his patient to the extreme. When I went to the office he had been associated with here in Modesto, they advised me that he was no longer there. The receptionist did not offer any information as to where he was. I'm a licensed private investigator so I began checking the state licenses for optometrists. And I found him. He was now full time at his Emeryville California location. There is an old saying that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Because of the care he afforded me I was not about to give up a true professional that helped me save my sight, I live in Modesto California which is almost 2 hours away from his office. I made my appointment and he took care of me with the same professionalism that I had experienced over the years I've been with him. My most recent visit was yesterday and he carefully went over any changes in my health that I had had in the past year and also gave me the thorough eye exam. I ordered glasses there and as in the past the office staff let you know that they are concerned about your eye health. If you want the best in optometry, to me it doesn't matter how far I travel because of the benefit I get from Dr. Liu. I cannot recommend him and his office staff enough. If there were 10 stars available he would have them. read more

very friendly and helpful staff, pretty good selection of glasses and sunglasses, and if they don't have what you want, they can probably order them for you. Two of the ladies working there when I came in (unfortunately, do not recall their names) helped me find some really nice frames that were in a different color from what I wanted. They ordered out for them in the right color and even tried to rush them for me so I would have them before my wedding (they didn't make it, but this was likely the fault of the vendor and not the office). Dr Liu is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and very patient with questions. Treat was also very helpful when I went for my contact fitting, and made the daunting task much more bearable. read more

I recently moved to the Bay Area and decided to make an appointment with Dr. James Liu as I need a new eye doctor. I made an appointment online on May 10, 2019. I received an appointment confirmation, which is posted along with this review, showing that my appointment was scheduled for June 6, 2019 @4pm. I left work early and rushed to 13333 Powell St., for my appointment today, June 6. As soon as I tried to check-in, I was told by the receptionist that they had no record of my appointment. I received this unfortunate news after waiting 10 minutes for her to "find" my appointment in their system. No colorable explanation was provided. There was no offer to squeeze me in or to make this right for a potential first time patient. I was offered another appointment 2-3 weeks out. No thanks. I will go elsewhere. read more

My contact lens appointment in January 2020 with Dr. James Liu was great, and the staff were professional, too. This was a welcome improvement over my appointment in January 2019, when I was seen by Dr. Caleb Poon. Dr. Poon made me feel uncomfortable during the exam through his awkward behavior and his unexpected by poking of the area around my eye. Bay Bridge Optometry has been my go-to since I moved to the Bay Area a year ago and I am so glad I found them. I have a bit of an interesting case, because one eye is myopic, the other hyperopic, and both have astigmatism. On top of that, I like wearing colored contacts. Dr. Liu offered several options so that I can continue to wear colored contacts comfortably. He's very thorough and communicative. I've only had glasses for a year and have gone here for two appointments. The staff here has been very helpful as I was not sure I really wanted to wear glasses, but felt very comfortable with them. I was desperately in need of a new optometrist and a new prescription and came across this optometry site called baybridge2020.com. I was curious so I gave it a go, plus their web site had a good ring to it. Anyways, I booked an appointment through their website, and they responded promptly and answered all the questions I needed to know which made my decision a lot easier to chose this place. The store was very nice and well put together. They had a great amount of selections on their frames and was very accessible for customers to try on. Dr. James was very nice and helpful. He made sure you're getting the best customer service right when you arrive at the place. (The receptionist, which I believe was his wife during my visit.. Damn, his wife tho lol) was very welcoming as well. I have been to several optometrist, but the way Dr. Liu conducts his eye exams are so much better than the other optometrist I have been to before. He was very detailed on explaining the procedures and made sure that I was comfortable during the exam. He also made sure that I "blinked" throughout the tests in which he explained that it actually helps make a difference when taking these eye exams in able to get the best results. (Which I did not know since I try not to blink as much on my previous eye exams -_-) Overall, my experience at Bay Bridge Optometry was a success. Excellent service and very knowledgeable and friendly staff! It's been 10 years since I had an eye exam, so I'm not that familiar with how Optometrists operate beyond the usual "look at this eye chart" and the annoying dilation annoyance of not being able to see in lit areas for 4 hours. With that said, Dr. Liu's practice uses the latest state-of-the-art technology that is both quick and--most importantly--comfortable for the patient. Instead of dilating my pupils, he uses a newly developed machine called the Optos which takes a picture of your retina, covering 200% more of the area than a traditional dilation. It was quick, effective, and comfortable. My exam started with an intern named Gina who performed some basic tests and the Optos analysis. Again, very friendly and knowledgeable--she explained every single step of what she was doing and the reasons behind them. Next, I saw Dr. Liu--very cool guy. We went through a quick history of my eyes and why I was seeing him. He performed his exam and narrowed down a prescription for me. He also went through every single item and option I could purchase and why he would recommend them. Again, this was very appreciated because there were no hidden costs. In the end, I went with what the doctor ordered. Who would NOT want anti-scratching and anti-reflecting lenses? Finally, his staff at the front of the office led me through the choosing of a frame for my lenses. They patiently pinpointed the perfect pair and made some quick measurements. Making things even quicker, they had already pulled up my insurance information and processed it before my visit. Overall, I was very impressed with this practice--extremely friendly, organized, and fast. Best of all, it's only a 3-minute drive from my house. I highly recommend Bay Bridge Optometry and Dr. Liu to anyone--even if they live a good distance away! read more
